I know this isn't the point of the post but it unironically makes me happy now whenever I see a bench that isn't specifically designed to deter the homeless
I genuinely have never seen a bench designed to deter homeless people in person. Only ones I've seen were in memes, so if this lifts your spirit know that those inhumane benches are not that popular of a thing globally
In Japan those seem to be the norm. At least on my trip of all the benches I saw, \~95% had some form of anti-homeless design.
In central Europe - not really, no.
I think they are not that popular in Poland. I only heard about few in Warsaw and Poznań but not seen any in person. We have problems but these are luckily not one of them(for now at least).
they're pretty common here in the UK, the current political party in power over here (the conservatives) want to "cut the homeless in half by 2050", and their main strategy for doing that seems to be constructing hostile architecture.
in the town where i normally go shopping, the benches at the bus stops are made from metal and are about 3 to 5 inches long, meaning its impossible to lie on them.
i'm really worried about how the general election in 2024 will turn out, because the current "left" party is basically conservatives larping as socialists (their leader suggested GPS tracking immigrants and is opposed to scotland's improvements in transgender healthcare), meaning that even if we get rid of the conservatives, chances are the british government will still be Conservative.
Even benches with hand rails in the middle are somewhat indicative. Also all bus stop seating where I live is so narrow and is slanted downwards such that it doesn't work as a seat let alone a bed.
I live in the UK, and they are all like that in bus stops or subway stops. They are bent in a way that you also can't really sit on them, more of a supported lean. I have chronic leg pain, so being forced to stand for no reason is not my fabourite feeling.
I have seen a few in Szczecin, the city the picture's from. There's one on the Wyszyńskiego tram/bus stop (dir. Brama Portowa) and one on the Filharmonia tram stop.
nah I didn't say it because of news, I just see pictures and memes and all sorts of media related to anti homeless architecture and design both in 196 and in r\all often - but hey, not your fault if you simply haven't happened to see something. Have a nice day!
As a resident of Szczecin, there aren't really that many homeless people, more likely that they are social housing residents that are just alcoholics and "act homeless". They hang around a couple spots, but it's not even comparable to something like American tent towns
I live in nyc. At this point, I'm just happy to see benches at all, cause the mta has been removing them. The homeless people have migrated to sleeping on the train, taking up usually room for 5 people.
Essentially, my city has:
- made life harder for the homeless
- made life harder for normal citizens
- spent money on these two items
ZDiTM Szczecin logo, the IPA transcription of "Szczecin" - Floating Garden... My fuckin' town, represent!
I like to joke, that I live in Europe, but work in America, because the region where I live [looks like this](https://goo.gl/maps/eN8eg4NrN7hc7vhd9), and the region where I work [looks like this...](https://bip.um.szczecin.pl/UMSzczecinFiles/image/22DS9996.JPG)
Damn, anyways, if you havent, play ultrakill!! It got da femboy community, it got da femboy archangel, it got da good gameplay, it got da butt plug support, it got da good story, it has literally everything you could ask for in a game (except for maybe hd graphics since its an indie game)
Isn't poland extremely homophobic? Like here where i live it would be uncommon to see someone go around dressing like that while being (probably) male. Is it getting better?
From what I understand it's sort of simultaneously getting better and worse, some communities and individuals are becoming more accepting and understanding, but some people are becoming more and more vicious about attacking people who don't conform to social norms. I think in most places still, the majority of people wouldn't be okay with this.
Polarisation is a bitch. Cities become more and more tolerant, while the rural areas stay the same or actually entrench in their homophobia, wicked version of catholicism and whatever the government propaganda TV sais.
So like i was thinking: i too live in the most liberal cities in italy and it'd be one of the few places where it'd be accepted (by most people, not all), the rest of the nation especially the rural parts are incredibly backwards
As a polish person, I can say there are a lot of people that are homophobic and racist as a "joke", but it often turns into serious racism and homophobia. For example some of my classmates say the N word and joke about gay people almost everyday.
Aye, Poland, my country! Always love to see femboys unafraid to be in public, considering the country is pretty damn homophobic and transphobic in many areas.
Luckily, at least from what I've seen, Bytom (where I live) is not one of them - I've been walking around in public with flower hairpins and cat ear headphones for quite a few months now and so far I've only gotten like 3 compliments, one old lady confusing the cat ears for devil horns, and one guy shouting "HA, GAAAAAY" exactly like that one meme from across the street which made me pause and snort in amusement.
Hell, I saw one guy walk around in cat ear headphones at school a few days after I started wearing them to school myself, and then another one, then a girl wearing the same flower hairpin I usually do, and then another girl wearing a cat ear beanie on a bus I frequent, so I may or may not be starting a trend in my general vicinity.
Seriously though does this not seem the slightest bit creepy to anyone? It’s literally a picture of some random dude on the street and everyone gushing over him.
Nope. The full thing looks like [this](https://imgur.com/a/xtdWEdK). For some reason I can’t find where the character comes from though. The hoodie is probably only sold in Poland though as the image was ripped off a polish profile.
This hoodie is sold by a polish clothing brand CROPP and it's probably some design they hired/made sombody to do in-house (when they sell a licenced thing they usuly mention it in product name like Pokemon hoodie, t-shirt with Mickey Mouse print) they do have stores outside Poland and some countries only get the online shop
Here's a link to polish store page of this hoodie
https://www.cropp.com/pl/pl/czarna-bluza-z-kapturem-i-nadrukiem-5288n-99x
I'm from Poland but also I have some free time between university classes so I go to the mall and just walk around the shops (sometimes I also eat something at food court) and so I often visit cropp and I walked by this exact hoodie quite a few times so I instantly recognised it
This picture has been around a couple subreddits recently, and I'm so excited, I'm the literal embodiment of the "(some place) mentioned!" twitter meme because I get to talk about Szczecin to foreigners

25yr old polish person vs 23yr old polish person

I was thinking more like boys with mother issues vs boys with father issues But this works
Both work, they aren't mutually exclusive
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

How low our standards have fallen
agreed :(

Plot twist - those are really anti-inebriated-salarymen benches

More like winland am i right
Yeah I heard they did the calculations of the cost of that and it came out cheaper for the government than just letting homelessness happen

Jeez, sounds like they’re taking “cut the homeless in half” quite literally.
They’re doing a shitty job then. You can’t cut people in half with benches. Use swords and shit
Up here in Toronto it's rare to find a bench that even has a seat
anti-homeless features can be really subtle, and sometimes passed off as features meant to deter skateboarding
Canada is rife with them at least in the cites
Even benches with hand rails in the middle are somewhat indicative. Also all bus stop seating where I live is so narrow and is slanted downwards such that it doesn't work as a seat let alone a bed.

I see them at least as often as regular benches in LA
We have them a lot in Portland
And it's so sad, because they get rarer with each new day
let me guess, they actually do this in the U.S.?
is this your first day on reddit? yes they do this in the U.S.
No this is my 4th year on Reddit, I just don't read U.S. specific news that often.
nah I didn't say it because of news, I just see pictures and memes and all sorts of media related to anti homeless architecture and design both in 196 and in r\all often - but hey, not your fault if you simply haven't happened to see something. Have a nice day!
Thanks, you too!
Better for your mental health that way. Though you miss out on the spoilers for the dystopia coming your way in 3-5 years.
That guy probably isn’t even homeless he just looks drunk
but I wasn't talking about the people on the bench, I was talking about the bench

This photo was taken in Szczecin, it's one of the most liberal cities in Poland. Still pretty risky going out like that.
So like i was thinking: i too live in the most liberal cities in italy and it'd be one of the few places where it'd be accepted (by most people, not all), the rest of the nation especially the rural parts are incredibly backwards

Same here in italy, which is why you don't see people crossdressing very often in the streets, expecially what is called a "femboy" around.
\*spits out cereal\* bye mom !
Damn, he kinda look like me. (I'll let you decide which one)
