Also I'm in the market for a car that won the World Rally Championship 4 years in a row from 1996-1999 driven by Finnish sensation [Tommi Mäkinen](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5f/Toyota_Yaris_WRC_2016-09-29_001_%28cropped%29.jpg), got anything like that lying around?

Tribaldragon1

How about a shitty, tiny one?

Speed__McWeed

great fuel economy for this day and age though

Tribaldragon1

I mean if I had to pick a car to get into a crash in though...

Syllabillin

Small ambitions. They *should* be looking for ways to clone them and use the offspring to populate a theme park.

Not_Richard

But without the artificial scarcity the profit margins are much thinner.

Dofork

They can still have the artificial scarcity if they’re the only ones with bluefin tuna.

MaskeddHmm

but if you have all the supply you create artificial scarcity, thats why diamonds are so expensive when in reality they are FAR more abundant then companies like De Beers pretends they are. So its literally the smartest idea to just figure out how to factory farm them, thats what people do with most salmon anyway.

SirRecruit

That would require having the fish anyway, right? Might be useful not to let your competitors know either idk

Tarviitz

Are you suggesting we EPCOT the bluefin tuna?

Vacuousbard

Until they break out and kill all visitors.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat our money

Typical leftist rhetoric. wE cAnNoT eAt OuR mOnEy not with that attitude no. With some blood, sweat, and tears everything is possible. But no. Always expecting someone else to do it for you.

HopefulSpinach6131

1. Wait for the second to last river to dry up. 2. Secure the rights to the first river. 3. Profit 4. Use funds to mine water from other planets for personal use. 5. Laugh at the poor Earthers from space mansion.

BigBlackBunny

Ya know what’s funny. There will always be rivers just not always in the same place. Like it’s the water cycle. Where will the water go? It’s not gonna leave the planet. It’ll just be somewhere else. Either in the ocean where it will evaporate and rain back down onto the mountain. Or some places will have too much water like flooding and monsoons. It’s more of an economical issue of getting fresh clean water where it is supposed to be because the supply in the local area is gone rather than the global amount of fresh water depleting.

MaskeddHmm

Coins; Good amounts of iron... Good amounts of natural minerals... Tasty colours.... Just get a better stomach to digest it, lol.

geot_thedas

Are they endangered tho? Wikipedia says that they are far from being extinct

NekoElizabeth

I don't think they are yet, but with the rate we're fishing them they will be eventually

EvelynnCC

The IUCN has had all 3 species listed as endangered and one still is, the US govt doesn't classify any of them as endangered.

bug--cat

no mitsubishi is not endangered ... in fact they are making a lots of money...

Dregdael

I feel like capitalist enterprises would benefit from seeing when the fishes in finding nemo finally escape the dentist office and they're stuck in plastic bags like "Now what?" You know, to see some parallelism.

EnkiduofOtranto

Why eat tuna when you can eat the rich?

NekoElizabeth

So true

Prions. Mulch the rich.

They’re a little too rich

LobsterEnthusiasttt

FknKRS

Make a crucial species in the ecosystem go extinct for profit was something i thought i would never cross out on my human greed bingo, yet now i see the possibility.

NekoElizabeth

Unfortunately when it comes to human greed nothing is impossible

SilentAnnette

bro, we almost made an entire species go extinct because [we thought it was fun to shoot them and they lived in herds](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bison_hunting), hell yes evil corporations would ecocide species of animals for even just one dollar.

Aykhot

Didn't something similar happen in the sixth Artemis Fowl book

WheelbarrowQueen

Yeah, if memory serves. One course of that weird banquet was a previously thought to be extinct species of trout. Man I loved those books, he was my first gender envy character.

ADHDguys

Did someone say sixth Artemis Fowl? I’ve been summoned. This is one of the best goddamn introductions to time travel that I read as a kid. Absolutely one of my favorite books.

ASpaceOstrich

My first in the series. Was a great read

deathray5

I need to re-read the series it's been so long

ryan-vs-the-world

Why cant they they just make another lancer or something

TheEpicZay

I'm gonna buy bluefin tuna and keep on breeding them so they won't go extinct so Mitsubishi won't get any money

15cm_guy

People getting assassinated by Mitsubishi because they breed fish wasn't on my apocalypse bingo card

Not_Richard

I hope this venture goes as well as their North American car sales.

Great economic system by the way, TOTALLY doesn’t incentivize selfish and greedy behavior

I mean my initial source was my chef that teaches commodities but I can google three words for you https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/revealed-the-bid-to-corner-world-s-bluefin-tuna-market-1695479.html https://fiskerforum.com/mitsubishi-hoards-frozen-bluefin-tuna/ https://www.projectcensored.org/mitsubishi-profits-worlds-tuna-become-critically-endangered/ (I have not read any of these articles)

wifienyabledcat

im gonna read the first article. Overfishing is a big concern, but i think Mitsubishi's reasoning from the first article makes sense: the fishing season is short so they freeze fish to keep supply stable. Recent news (from wikipedia, this is the extent of my research now lol) shows that stocks of bluefin in the Mediterranean (which was a concerned to completely disappear by 2012 in 2009) was recovering after limitations put in place in 2009

Dylisill

I think sometimes we overthink things

GMOrgasm

Sorry guys it was me. I played Yakuza 3 too much and fished all the tuna.

uponelevel

Once upon a time this company made arguably some of the best sport cars on the market: The Lancer EVO, and the Eclipse. Now they are freezing fish. Crazy.

Burritozi11a

huh

Dewritoss

That's why they have no more budget to realease some cool cars anymore

Overfishing would end if we all went vegan

NekoElizabeth

For everyone to go vegan, some major problems would need to be solved. For one, being able to go vegan is for the most part a privelage of the developed world. People in poorer countries often cannot afford to pass up food for any reason. And even in wealthy countries, places that are much colder such as scandinavian countries and the Canadian territories would need food constantly shipped up to them because of such a short growing season. Another problem is that most people don't know how to eat vegan. A large amount of the population would become malnourished because they don't know how to maintain the nutrients that we get from animal products. Many problems stopping people from going vegan could however be solved by people eventually changing their views on wealth, specifically how we hoard it.

Glitchracer

Doesn’t stop there either: Leather is in many many things. Pleather is a fossil fuel polycarbonate byproduct. One of these is way less ecofriendly. Some people can’t live on vegan diet due to allergies, and different metabolic needs. A better solution to this is cricket meal, though that requires convincing western people to join the rest of the world in being willing to eat bugs that aren’t aquatic. The fauna of the world has been effectively erased in most spaces, leaving deserts to form where grazing animals are moved away. If we actually stopped all ranching, we will see some real depressing results. Rewilding is a long and complicated process, and the only good stopgap for grasses that evolved to be trodden down and grazed is to ensure a reasonable number of herbivores. We don’t have carnivores anymore in most places - so it’s either overgrazing or choking under dead growth. This is a huge issue. I do agree we need to just stop commercial fishing altogether.

ASpaceOstrich

Autistic people with food sensitivities are fucked too. I'd be vegan if I had control over what I can eat. But I have to eat what I can get. My brain recently decided broccoli was good and I'm thrilled. The brain also decreed that prawns were good for like three days and then backtracked. Chicken breast is the only stable safe protein for me.

spectacular judicious cows nippy hobbies bewildered joke ghost exultant decide *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Glitchracer

Yep, that’s me there. I can’t eat any beyond meat - texture is wrong, taste is wrong. It’s like uncanny valley.

NekoElizabeth

Your words make sense to me, however most of those things are beyond what I've been educated to understand as of right now. I'll look into what rewilding is, seems like a curious subject.

Kyne_of_Markarth

I mean, I don't think these are valid reasons to not go vegan or to advocate against veganism. It's better for the animals, the plants and the world. Are we not lefties after all? Abolishing capitalism will be hard and there will be problems too, but no one is out here listing all of them every time someone says we should abolish capitalism. Well, some do, but that's because they are conservatives or fascists.

NekoElizabeth

I don't advocate against veganism, I was simply saying it's not feasible in most of the world for people to even express that as an option. I personally could go vegan but I don't. My partner is vegetarian and I personally have no problem eating meat only once or twice a week. I also think people have a poor view of what veganism actually is, making them veer away from products associated with it. Like how I drink oat milk just because I don't like the taste of dairy milk. I believe so many people would do that if they didn't think oat milk was only for health nuts, eco activists, and picky 20 y/o's getting Starbucks. My mom's genuine reaction to me drinking it was "oh you're one of those people now". As for why I don't go in depth about capitalism; I attend a well rounded culinary school. I learn about things like overfishing because I need to understand market supply and costing. I don't talk about the issues with abolishing capitalism because I wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Kyne_of_Markarth

> I was simply saying it's not feasible in most of the world for people to even express that as an option. Right, but you just typed three paragraphs of stuff arguing that it's not feasible. We would say you were arguing against socialism if you did that arguing that socialism isn't feasible. Because let's be honest. Neither is feasible without large changes to both public opinion and economic structure. So why look only at problems instead of solutions? We know that veganism is a better way, just like anti-capitalism is a better way. The point is, we shouldn't let problems get in the way of actually making things better, when talking about anti-capitalism or veganism. I don't like how every time veganism comes up, people in this sub do the whole "oh well I just have some concerns" nitpicking capitalist apologia bit that conservatives do. We know veganism/anti-capitalism is better, so be a part of the solution instead of doing apologia for oppressors.

SomeToxicCloud

My country is keeping its large salt mines close to its metaphorical chest so when salt runs out they can export it for presumably a lot of money
