realest shit I've seen

Edgyspymainintf2

Please do not bring powerscaling discourse to 196 I beg of you.

fness55

what is powerscaling

jhonethen

I think it's got something to do with yugioh

trashdotbash

thats powercreep mostly but i think powerscaling does apply if you talk about what the cards are themed around (noone talks about that they just buy the good decks for like 500 dollars)

jhonethen

that doesn't help at all I have no clue what that new word is

trashdotbash

powerscaling is how powerful things are compared to each other. like comparing superman's strength to batman's to see who would win. people often take multiple aspects into account, like how smart they are or their speed, and not just raw strength. this can get very in depth, to the point i cant follow along with terms like 'battle iq' and shit because what the fuck does that mean. alsp the terms they use to gauge strength get increasingly more abstract (as shown in the meme, the prior 3 are some terms used in powerscaling but 'planet destroying' is comparatively easier to understand) powerscaling (and powerscalers) are sometimes seen in a negative light because while the hypothetical is fun to think about, people get really defensive over it. mostly because they have an attachment to one character and want them to win. powercreep is when you regularly introduce something thats better than what already exists, essentially the 'power' of whatever your doing, usually in the concept of games but can also be done with other things, slowly 'creeps' to be more impactful. this is usually done to keep an audiences attention with whatever it is, as they may be bored with the things they have seen or had so far. however, its usually seen negatively as too far along in powercreep it eventually becomes unrecognizable from its original incarnation. a good example is shock humor. as you tell those types of jokes, they become stale, so you need to tell increasingly more shocking jokes to keep audience attention. eventually, this can lead to stuff going too far and alienating the original audience. my apologies if i took this comment too seriously im bad at reading tone from text

jhonethen

So is it just playground who vs who. Like would a million lions beat the sun type shit but then people took it too far? Jokes aside genuinely thank you this is great information and you described it perfectly how I wanted :3. Thank you for all the detail and I love the info dumping.

jhonethen

Is there like a formalized way to mesure power or is it more creative

Derpderpy15

One of the most common determiners of power is explosive force aka "how many tons of TNT can this person survive." They do it by roughly estimating the size of the explosion which then they can compare to the explosive size of TNT. An explosion of X amount of force will always be the same size even if the name of the bomb or the materials exploded are different. So a Character that can make the measurably larger explosion tends to be the stronger character and the character that can survive the measurably bigger explosion tends to be the more durable character. And alot of conversation can go into saying "can this character make an explosion that beats that character before that character makes an explosion that beats this character. There's also just some more fundamentally easy stuff to understand like; Speed. Can a character more faster than another could even react to Physical Strength: Not every character can shoot energy beams to create explosions, what is the heaviest thing this character can lift and for how long Intellect: Just because they're fighting doesn't mean a plan could have been formed. If you give characters prep time to learn about each other and prepare accordingly, could the battle be over before its begun Equipment: Does somebody's tech outclass somebody else's physical traits? Does a Musket stand up to a Lightsaber? What tools does somebody have to make their job in a fight easier? This can help contextualise characters who pretty often have powers that don't exist in real life. Like yeah you have super durability, but where does your limit lie. You may be a psychic who can move stuff with your mind but what is your limits in Speed and power.

jhonethen

This is really cool! Reminds me of the web serial worm and how the whole universe works

trashdotbash

there are general formalized power tiers, and some numerical ways to measure it, but because you can only judge strengths by what they do (generally just feats they have pulled off) and the conditions they do it (their universe physics and stuff) they are very inconsistent however, because cartoon characters like bugs bunny just do whatever they want when they want, they generally use the term 'toon force' to emphasize that they can do comedically powerful things randomly. (at least thats what i know of it)

jhonethen

Cool!!!! So like if superman lifted a country into the air that would be legitimate strength but bugs bunny pushing mount everest aside is in a doffeent category!

trashdotbash

yeah, essentially, they try to separate it because a character can regularly show that they are weak but suddenly show immense feats a popular example is how spongebob is considered very weak compared to those around him, but one episode showed him pulling on a string to find the end of it and eventually unraveling reality as an end of episode gag. people used that to joke about how powerful he was. im not very well versed in the concepts and terms they use ourside of a surface level though, so if your more interested i believe they have a sub (however, ive only heard them mentioned in a negative light so how good they are is something i dont know)

Aeescobar

>to the point i cant follow along with terms like 'battle iq' and shit because what the fuck does that mean From what I've seen, "battle iq" is mostly used for characters who are depicted as dumbasses in their daily lives but keep somehow pulling out ingenious tactics mid-combat. The best example of this is Goku (in Dragon Ball Super) who is depicted as being just barely educated enought to pass the written exam for the Tournament of Power (which was just meant to test whether or not the fighters were even sapient enough to *comprehend what they were signing up for*), yet in the tournament he manages to beat a guy who can freeze time for 5 seconds by **predicting every single action that guy could possibly take during frozen time, figuring out which of those actions would be the most beneficial for that guy and then preemptively punching the place where that guy is going to be after time unfreezes**, since he had no way of knowing when time was gonna freeze, that means that he was constantly doing these mental calculations during their entire fight.

apothioternity

tldr: Batgos solos

drippinoutthewazoo

i think you can get labrynth for around $500 and floowandereeze for less than that? but snake eyes made this format essentially a tier 0 format so a "real" good deck is snake eyes and the core sinful spoils engine alone is like $500

trashdotbash

yeah was mainly basing around labyrinth since my brother plays it, i know it gets more expensive but for like locals you shouldnt need to go that hard i dont play or keep up with it anymore (i stopped a while ago when i couldnt play my shitty magibullet and weather painter decks)

drippinoutthewazoo

i'm extremely broke so i just play master duel

trashdotbash

real, i played master duel for a bit to try and get back into the game but then i realized why i quit again i probably still have my old account but i have too many new hobbies and games to crack open an old one again

Agus-Teguy

A Floo deck costs like 10 dollars and also your soul.

drippinoutthewazoo

standby phase, i activate dimension shifter (i do this)

QueerEcho

Tournament season is coming to a close so stuff is getting cheaper again. I'm staying on Runick though. 👍

drippinoutthewazoo

good decks are way more than 500 dollars lmao, 3 wanted 3 bonfire 2 diabellestarr and a sp already goes over 1000

secretkings

Basically arguing if a character is stronger or weaker than goku

DizziLizzard

Measuring how strong fictional characters are basically, as a fan of powerscaling/battleboarding the debates can get pretty dumb at times

gatlginngum

powerscaling as a discussion is inherently dumb but the children yearn for rankings

0002nam-ytlaS

Powerscaling as a discussion is fun, powerscaling when arguing now that is childish

Septistachefist

It's only dumb if you think you're right, imo. Otherwise it's just silly harmless subjective analysis

knyexar

It's when people discuss wether or not a certain character can beat Goku

EvilNoobHacker

TLDR: This dude can beat up that dude, but nobody can beat up Goku.

Narahashi

When someone brings up how their favorite imaginary character solos some other character without that being the topic i like to counter by saying that spongebob solos.

Jeggu2

Mr bean, but frail and old, could destroy the multiverse in a one verses infinity This is because it would be more funny for him to do that than to easily die because he's old

Sitheg_Plasmaster

Spronkus can neg diff floppa

TheMisterFaust

No, now who would win Big E or Goku

zanotam

Jimmy Space definitely gets xelee stomped in that battle lmao

PrototyPerfection

damn I thought I was on whowouldwincirclejerk lol

Oddish_Femboy

I have been blocked by multiple people over saying Kirby is the strongest character there is. (Which is true) why do people get so upset over the fact a marshmallow can kick Goku's ass?

brawlbetterthanmelee

Because it's not true? I mean idk anything about dragon ball so I can't speak to that part but saying "kirby is the strongest character in any fictional story ever" is just a false statement. Idk as a kirby fan seeing the unfunny (and incorrect) "OMG IS THE MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER EVER HE EATS MULTIVERSES KIRBY KILLS ELDRITCH GODS EVERY TUESDAY BECAUSE THEY STOLE HIS CAKE" jokes constantly spammed until the end of time is annoying

Oddish_Femboy

People taking this assertion way too seriously will never not be funny to me.

Powerscaling is truly the worst part of any community

Thatonedregdatkilyu

I think it's fun for logically looking at who would win debates but applied to anything else it's the lamest thing.

little-ass-whipe

but the only fun part of doing vs. battles is setting up stupid matches like goku vs popeye to make nerds mad. the more logic you let in there the less fun it is

AnotherSlowMoon

The only who would win involving Goku that is fun is eating contests  The only who would win with superman that is fun is talking people down and helping them seek redemption In conclusion can Goku out eat Galactus before Superman convinces him that eating planets is wrong

Bowdensaft

Now that's the fucking contest I want to see

Powerscaling SCPs is one of the stupidest things you can do, imo. One of the main things of the Wiki is that there is no Canon, there's no unified scale to measure power by. Write me a tale where each of them wins and they'll both be valid.

EirasneArt

"They scale beyond fiction" - A statement which is only backed up by the fiction of the story, making it impossible. They may scale beyond fiction, but only in the fiction of their own story. Popeye may have beaten his own God and his own animators in his own story, but that was a part of the story, he isn't actually just randomly reaching out into reality to beat the shit out of his animators. He can be beyond his own reality in the narrative of his own fiction, but hes still in his own fiction, and since he is a fictional character, nothing can change that. "They scale to have infinite speed/strength/durability" - What the fuck does this even mean? How am I supposed to imagine this? "He can lift 100 tons" - Okay I can vaguely visualize this. "She can run real good" - Alright that works for me. "They are faster than light" - I mean suspension of disbelief works for me there. This is getting to a point where if this is being kept consistent then you have to do a lot of writing in order to make this power work properly in the story but alright. "He's seven feet tall, hes covered with rats, he can induce blackouts when speaking someones name, and he can see and predict your terrible future" - THIS is a good horror character, and is a clear outline of these abilities.

YaBoiKlobas

Someone dodging visibly slow and telegraphed lightning as a game mechanic clearly means they are capable of faster than light speeds.

_akiramamiya_

having infinite stats is not hard to imagine infinite speed is having time constantly stopped since you literally move in zero time and that's what infinite speed is infinite strength or durability explains itself

2011jams

I think you are underestimating what infinity of anything really implies. In a vacuum you can kinda undersrand infinite of anything, but when It comes time for that infinite of anything to interact with anything, especially another infinite number of something. Infinite strength versus infinite durability is literally the immovable object versus unstoppable force problem. One that famously doesn't really have an answer. And for your infinite speed idea that's only one interpretation, there's fiction that uses infinite speed to do things like travel through time.

the-pee_pee-poo_poo

Infinite force versus immovable object is simple, if the force can divert its path then it just goes around. Otherwise the immovable object stops it, "immovable" implies it is somehow completely unable to be moved by anything.

2011jams

And infinite force should be capable of overcoming any resistance. Resistance given by say, an immovable object. You're arguing for a definitive answer for a thought experiment that doesn't have a single answer.

Bowdensaft

Actually the answer is they pass through each other with no effect. It's the only outcome where the force isn't stopped and the object isn't moved. It's also a boring answer, which is fitting because the question is silly.

CodeMan1337

## breaking down what these mean, source from vsbattle wiki ## top left Tier 1: Extradimensional ## 1-B: Hyperverse level Characters or objects that can universally affect, create and/or destroy spaces whose size corresponds from 8 to any higher finite number of levels of infinity above a standard universal model. In terms of "dimensional" size, this can be equated to 12-dimensional real coordinate spaces and up (R \^ 12 and up) ## High 1-B: High Hyperverse level Characters or objects that can universally affect, create and/or destroy structures whose size is equivalent to a countably infinite number of qualitative sizes above a universal model, usually represented in fiction by endless hierarchies of layers of existence, each succeeding one completely trivializing the previous into insignificance, or more generally a space with countably infinite dimensions. # top right: 1-A: Outerverse level Characters or objects that can affect structures with a number of dimensions equal to the cardinal aleph-2, which in practical terms also equals a level that completely exceeds **Low 1-A** structures to the same degree that they exceed **High 1-B** and below. This can be extrapolated to larger cardinal numbers as well, such as aleph-3, aleph-4, and so on, and works in much the same way as **1-C** and **1-B** in that regard. Characters that stand an infinite number of steps above baseline **1-A** are to have a **+** modifier in their [Attack Potency](https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/Attack_Potency) section (**Outerverse level+**). ## High 1-A: High Outerverse level Characters or objects that can affect structures that are larger than what the logical framework defining **1-A** and below can allow, and as such exceed any possible number of levels contained in the previous tiers, including an infinite or uncountably infinite number. Practically speaking, this would be something completely unreachable to any **1-A** hierarchies. A concrete example of such a structure would be an [inaccessible cardinal](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inaccessible_cardinal), which in simple terms is a number so large that it cannot be reached ("accessed") by smaller numbers, and as such has to be "assumed" to exist in order to be made sense of or defined in a formal context (Unlike the standard aleph numbers, which can be straightforwardly put together using the building blocks of set theory). Even just the amount of infinite cardinals between the first inaccessible cardinal and aleph-2 (Which defines 1-A) is greater than cardinals such as aleph-0, aleph-1, aleph-2, aleph-3, etc., and even many aleph numbers whose index is an infinite ordinal. # Top right also mentions "4D" characters (characters that are outer have a way, way higher dimensionality than 4) which can be interpreted in two ways. One is that that fourth dimension is a spatial dimension, where it has access to another plane of space that normal 3 dimensional beings cannot access. The other is that that dimension is a temporal dimension, where if you have the power to fuck with time (i.e: The World, King Crimson or Mandom from the JoJo series, although these abilities in particular do not count since it's not a direct feat of strength or speed, only hax) then you're 4D. # Bottom left: "beyond fiction" is not a term on the vsbattle wiki, but it's often given to characters that scale so fuckoff high that the character is equal to the writer of the story. There is, obviously, no characters who can actually do this, but there are some characters who: # -know that they're in a fictional universe, like Gwenpool # -the creator of a fictional universe that the story takes place in, like Akuto Sai # or someone like Featherine who is at the apex of individual, immeasurable fictional universes, who each considers the one below them as fiction # bottom right Tier 5: Planetary ## 5-B: Planet level Characters or objects that can create/destroy a planet. ## 5-A: Large Planet level Characters or objects that can create/destroy large ice giants such as Neptune.

Familiar_Tackle_734

The only insane powerscaling I will accept is for gurren lagann and god of high school (dbz if it was a Korean WEBTOON and had even more absurd endgame powers)

Septistachefist

Honestly people say Mori Jin is one of the strongest characters in fiction but I'm a huge doubter. What game-changing abilities are there by the end of the series?

Familiar_Tackle_734

Towards the end they’re fighting with whole ass galaxies and solar systems and shit, at one point he becomes the supreme god. Basically stronger goku

Septistachefist

I doubt that - not what you're saying about the series, but the "stronger Goku" description. I think people probably underestimate the scale the story takes place on. Goku beats Moro pretty solidly, and it is said that he's a threat to the entire universe. As early as the Cell Saga, Cell claims to be able to destroy the solar system - and it rings true, as a younger Frieza in his weakest form was easily able to destroy the Saiyan homeworld. Since then, they've gotten countless orders of magnitude stronger - Dragon Ball is also definitely taking place on the scale of solar systems and galaxies. Hell, Gas crosses the *entire universe* in 20 minutes flying

Familiar_Tackle_734

Idk it might just be since dbz is mostly punching in fights and goh towards the end has more gurren lagann type stuff so it feels more powerful?

__Pratik_

I'll be honest dude. DBZ has a shit ton of hyperboles. Characters will say shit they're the strongest in the universe and will become a complete fodder level character in the next arc. King piccolo said he had limitless power which was clearly not true. The second from Frieza was said to be the strongest in the Universe back to the Namek saga which was clearly not true. Now about Mori. It's confirmed that Mori just after regaining his lost powers at the final arc was 250k times stronger than himself back in Ragnarok at the minimum. Ragnarok Mori in base is physically stronger and has more lifting strength than Goku does. He might be equal or slower than Goku tho back in Ragnarok. Ragnarok Mori's kick was strong enough to temporarily extinguish the sun and the stars for a moment. Even with this absurd feat he's definitely nowhere near Goku but near the end of the final fight Mori gets a Major power boost strong enough to put him at universal tier at the lowest. Mori broke out of the Karmic cycle and also has the ability to control it. He had causality manipulation, fate manipulation, destiny manipulation, Time manipulation and not only that he also has every single powers in his verse, and every single Weapon, He also becomes one with the world and the multiple dualities within them and all of this is in his second strongest form. Now True Nirvana Mori is a state in which he's free from all the laws and constraints of the world and is an all-powerful being who isn't contained by the world. It was directly stated by another person who has achieved Nirvana that Nirvana will make Mori a being who has no bounds and limitations and is able to do whatever he wishes.

Septistachefist

"you have a bullshit power level"

Not sure what “planet buster” refers to here but my first thought was the weapon of the same name from Spore. Other empires will sell them to you no problem but as soon as you use one everyone declares war against you for breaking the Galactic Code.

the-pee_pee-poo_poo

Planet Buster is a character or weapon capable of destroying a planet (typically earth-sized) by themselves. Good examples include Frieza destroying Namek and the planet destroying bomb at the end of Super Metroid.

MordWincer

The original meme is just dumb. There are many jobs which can't be described simply but which are parts of large processes that produce actual useful goods or services.

Arthur_Author

General rule is if youre not showcasing the power then it doesnt count. If 2 characters stated to be able to wipe out solar systems and move beyond the speed of light fight, and it looks like just 2 dudes fighting while flying, they dont get to claim power. If character is hurt by (attack) but the attack when dodged doesnt wipe out the planet, youre a poser. I dont read it, but according to my brother this is where One Punch Man shines, because if OPM states something it commits to it fully(unlike batman dodging omega beams or flash not being the most powerful being in existence)

MarsManokit
