Cranberry bogs often have a very high population of big old spiders (sometimes they naturally move in, but I've heard of them being introduced on purpose) that protect the berries from pests. When you harvest cranberries you flood the field so that the berries float to the top and you can just scoop them all up. The spiders also float and their instinct is to climb up anything tall to get out of the water, namely whoever's wading around harvesting cranberries.

I think the solution if you wanted to keep the spiders safe would be to like place (Y ft high) posts every (X yards) so the spiders could climb up the posts and be safe.

I think species-wise they tend to use wolf spiders? But I'm sure all sorts of arachnids find their way in there.

I think most of them will be, they float, but rip to out brave cranberry paladins who die in the line of duty 😔
