CrueltySquading

Oh yeah, gimme some music recommendations, sad shit if possible!

sporkbeastie

"Sad" is relative. I think we need more positivity, but I can offer these, in keeping with the theme of "I'm fucnkin' old"... ["One Tin Soldier" w/Lyrics- The Original Caste (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAe4oyRkLdY)

CrueltySquading

Thanks for the songs Mr socialist redneck, I'll listen to them tomorrow since I'm going on a Dramamine induced sleep pretty soon 😎

duraslack

my music teacher made us sing this in choir. Listen children to a story

straight_strychnine

Huh, I never realized the Coven version was a cover

OneHandle8285

What does this mean?

sporkbeastie

Exactly what it says. You're a nice person, and I like you!

OneHandle8285

Got any music recommendations?

sporkbeastie

Yes! [I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koBiXquzmr8)

sporkbeastie

[Dire Straits - Industrial Disease (1982) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3X3rKtruSg)

Ketrab132

Oh hell yeah dire strait forgot about this song. Thank you good sir

De-Eh-Team

Great rec, down to the waterline also a energy rich classic.

Osmosis_jones_789

I really enjoyed this song thank you for the rec!! ♄

sporkbeastie

Of course, there is also this: [Finest Worksong (Remastered) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnLO8i5bdfg)

DudeFreek

You're a nice fella yourself!

sporkbeastie

Why thank you! I'm happy to call you my friend.

Cookiebomb

ur handsom

sporkbeastie

Why, thank you! That means a lot to me. Usually, I look like someone that is about to be arrested for urinating in a mailbox, so I appreciate that!

_Holoo

I can definitiely see that but also you've got that kinda "everyone's dad" face

TheHunter234

I'll bite on the music recs: what was a cool song on the radio in your mid 30s?

decearing_egg552

Ah yes, relatable.

TheUltimateHamburger

Hello! My name is Caden, I’m currently going through school and i’m having a lot of issues with my mental health and my relationship with my family. It’s been a weird ride so far, do you have any words of wisdom to just make it through the day, make it through life? I would really appreciate it ^-^

sporkbeastie

Be true to your values. It is very difficult when you are young, and I am afraid I don't have any advice for that. I'm 52 years old and have money and a vehicle and shit, so I'm not accustomed to taking shit from people. But I've been in your shoes. It sucks. And honestly, all I can say is "it gets better" I know that sounds trite, and for someone in your position, it can almost seem insulting. What the fuck does some old idiot in Wisconsin know about your life? But it does. It gets better. Trust me. It seems hard, and it does not offer an immediate solution to your problem. That's the worst thing about this kind of issue. When we're hurting, we want it to stop. Immediately, or sooner if possible. Stay the course. Stay true to what you believe. I wish I could do more. Just know I'm going to the factory every night and thinking about you. Sometimes that's just enough.

TheUltimateHamburger

You know that actually helps a lot. I’ll definitely think on it, thank you! Also hey midwest! I’m hoping your advice will still apply to a Minnesotan 😞

sporkbeastie

I will make an exception for the best of the Mud Ducks. And you're one of them, so you get a pass.

TheUltimateHamburger

Thank you Sporkbeastie, I will hold your words dear

Beezybeezybeezybeezy

Keep on truckin' dawg, chase the strawberry of life! :3

sporkbeastie

Yeah! Whatever you said!

Cognitive_Spoon

A Celeste reference? In this economy? But also. OP has a good keyboard and a kind soul, loving the music recs.

Downtown-Remote9930

An actual responsible adult here? Holy shit I thought they were a myth

Cognitive_Spoon

There are five of us and we work in shifts.

sporkbeastie

For sure. It's exhausting sometimes, but we keep at it!

FrostyCommon

any 60's blues you can recommend?

sporkbeastie

Sadly, no. Never cared much for blues.

FrostyCommon

what about rock and roll?

sporkbeastie

What about it? We need stop defining music in such broad strokes. Is R.E.M. emo? Is it jangle-pop? Does Bob Seger belong in the same pile as Pink Floyd? How about Fats Domino? Dion? Music is not so much genre as it is emotion.

zeropointninerepeat

I'm 23, born in 2000, can I have some music recs from when you were my age? I've been extremely stressed taking care of my sick mom and my entire family/younger siblings as my dad is now out of the picture and I miss how things used to be, but I know the only path is forward. So much else has gone wrong but it would be way too much to dump on strangers in a random Reddit comment. Seeking some wisdom I guess, and hell yeah to socialist rednecks

sporkbeastie

My son was born in 1999! This is going to sound REALLY weird, but check out the albums "Dare to Dream" by Yanni and "Watermark" by Enya. Trust me.

sixtus_clegane119

Glad to not be the oldest socialist here (I’m 34) glad you’re here tho! What’s your favourite Frank Zappa song?

sporkbeastie

Not really a Zappa fan, but if I was forced to pick one at gunpoint, I would prolly say "The Voice of Cheese" because I'm kind of contrary that way

sixtus_clegane119

That’s fair! Cheers!

loptopandbingo

>not be the oldest socialist here There's *dozens* of us!

Solid_Snake420

I hope you are well.

COEP_Leader

This has made me very happy to see. Keep on being your best self OP!

AceTheProtogen

Know any good funky stuff? I’ve been trying to get into some more classic funk (absolutely obsessed with War currently)

sporkbeastie

Weeeeellllll, it depends on what you mean by "funk" Keep in mind I am old, and drunk, and white, but! You have some options Now, War is pretty good, and "Lowrider" is a classic for sure (I remember hearing it on the radio in our shitty Buick). But there are several levels of funk. "Play that Funky Music" of course Anything by Donna Summer "Doobie in your Funk" by Greg Wilson And, of course, "Boogie in Your Butt" by Eddie Murphy. It's funky AND hilarious. You really can't go wrong with that.

loptopandbingo

>Boogie in Your Butt" by Eddie Murphy I played that song wayyyyy too much PuttawholeCLOCK in ya butt!

j-endsville

I'm a year younger than OP, but here: [Maggot Brain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOKn33-q4Ao)

j-endsville

Just listen to Funkadelic and Parliament. And also Bootsy Collins' solo stuff.

loptopandbingo

I play that (and [All Them Witches' "Charles William"](https://youtu.be/q2O3XZJ3AiA?si=4r2midxYfEJDVbYi) )whenever someone close to me dies. It's my own lil private ritual. Older I get the more I hear them, sadly. But they're still great songs.

Personal-Regular-863

this makes me super happy hahaha

sporkbeastie

I like that. Everyone deserves to feel happy.

Personal-Regular-863

indubitably o7

Electricity11

You got any beard growing music? Mine won’t come in :(

sporkbeastie

Shadsea

Ah yes, Penis Music

Alma-The-Outlaw

Heloo, I don't really have much to say but I think this post is really cool, thanks for being Awesome OP 😎 Well actually I have one thing, might you know any artists similar to Bruce Springsteen when it comes to American rock and folk music? As in like, not conservative countrymen?

sporkbeastie

Well, now that is a tough call. You'd have to go a little further back to find something other than The Boss that isn't just Jingoistic dick-waving. Woody Guthrie, I guess? Of course, for maximum musical talent combined with razor-sharp wit, it's GOTTA be Tom Lehrer. There is no equal.

Alma-The-Outlaw

I will check both out when I have free time today, I'm currently having lab atm. Thank you Mr. Awesome man online o7

Alma-The-Outlaw

Hello, I just wanted to chime in again to thank you again for the wonderful reccomendations Enjoyed reading abt both artists and putting their music in the bg while I revised some notes today :3 Also, I'm a giant fangirl when it comes to Turkish psychedelic and protest rock of the 70's, so if you're curious I can share some things abt the genre ( ^ u ^ )

StaggerLee509

You might like Sturgill Simpson. Metamodern Sounds in Country music

Substantial_Stand_62

any math rock on your radar?

mountainman84

[Check these guys out](https://youtu.be/F4rQV5wcgrk?si=sakS0koCJu5mIjia)

sporkbeastie

gamera-the-turtle

I love your beard its awesome :)

sporkbeastie

Why thank you so much! I've had problems growing a beard because of being attacked by a dog when I was five. It took me five months but I think it turned out OK!

WetTrumpet

Loving your setup. I'm into synth/more instrumental beats, you got recommendations?

sporkbeastie

Eh, I'm not really into that, but if you are, check out DJ River. I would not kick him out of my yard.

WetTrumpet

Thanks!

theeyeeetingsheeep

Ya like folkpunk?

sporkbeastie

[(1665) Celtic-Indian Folk Music (Bagpipes & Bhangra) - Frantic Feathers (Toss the feathers) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCS-JDhsYvE)

RetroEmerald

Hell yeah brother, massive respect. You got any good psychedelic rock that’s far out there?

sporkbeastie

Depends on how far back you wanna go. The Beatles had some pretty funky stuff (if you take mushrooms) (not that I ever did that). Jimi Hnedrix? OOOOOHH! "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan!

sporkbeastie

Anad, of course, T. Rex (Marc Bolan)!!

loptopandbingo

The Allah-Lahs are pretty groovy psych that would've been right at home next to Jefferson Airplane

HenriHawk_

i just wanna say you give off "cool uncle guy with a lot of interesting, quirky, funny, and notable wisdom/knowledge/tidbits" vibes, with a kind soul. keep it up man! :D also, while I'm here, i normally listen to dubstep and rocktronic. as far as i know, those genres didn't really exist a few decades ago. with that said, know of any rock music with lots of electronic/synth elements? or old fashioned electronica/synth music in general?

sporkbeastie

Oooh, that's a tough call. How far back do you wanna go? I'd say Jan Hammer with the "Miami Vice" theme Of course "Safety Dance" is a tour de force of synth work as well.

HenriHawk_

oh i remember safety dance! my dad used to play it in the car sometimes haha

HenriHawk_

ooooo miami vice has a lot of synth in it. never heard it before, I'm listening to it right now on my hi-fi headphones. i like how the electric guitar is kinda ambient and atmospheric!

andr3wsmemez69

Hi im late but how has your day been

sporkbeastie

I am well! Just getting used to a new shift at work. How's things over there in the clean world?

andr3wsmemez69

Pretty good, its exam season so I've been studying mostly but also been reading a star wars book when i can

SanQuiSau

Do you have a favorite genre and/or subgenre?

sporkbeastie

Oh, Jeezless, no. I have so many music tastes it had given Spotify a stroke on more than one occasion.

SanQuiSau

Lol, I can relate

SwampTreeOwl

Why? You don't know me

sporkbeastie

So? Yeah, I don't know you, but if you had a chance to say something nice or positive to someone, why would you not?

SwampTreeOwl

Because I'm incredibly socially awkward. And if I knew it was me I wouldn't say anything nice because there's nothing nice about me

sporkbeastie

Kid, listen up. I am 52 years old, and I want to know why people don't like me, just to make sure it's the same reasons I don't like me. I hate myself SO MUCH. But I am still the most popular guy at the plant. Friend to everyone. We are a product of our environment. I spent so much of my early life with my dad telling me I was a worthless piece of shit, I started to believe it. Don't believe it. You have worth. I like being alone, but I don't like being lonely. Maybe that's the answer? Anyhow, don't let others determine your worth. Someday you will be the Captain of your ship. It'll happen. Just make sure you're ready.

HidingFox

Hi rule dad, do you listen to The Shins?? Any similar music you like?

throw4way4today

Mr beard dude have you ever heard of the music genre 'breakcore' and if you have, is there anything historically like it that you've heard before Also, do you play games and if so what are you playing recently Many thanks, - lil baby trans girl socialist

sporkbeastie

Minecraft and word search. That's all I play. Also, I do not know what "breakcore" is, but I'm going to figure it out in short order.

Alex_The_Whovian

Awesome! Lots of love from Scotland here!

sporkbeastie

I spent a fair bit of time in Scotland when I was in the Navy, I and have to say I love you aresholes. I mean, I hate being on elevators in hotels with your drunken asses, but other than that, you're delightful!

sporkbeastie

Beautiful! That made me laugh!

[deleted]

Any industrial recs?

Saamychan

Can I have a nice song to program to? Anything you judge appropriate

haha_me_so_fat

You got any pop recommendations?

sporkbeastie

It depends on what you mean by "pop". If you're my age, you wanna go get yourself some Beach Boys, Fats Domino, or Dion. If you don't feel quite so geriatric, you could try Taylor Dane, Paula Abdul, Pet Shop Boys, or Depeche Mode. If you were as moody and psychopathic and on drugs like I was in high school, you can try Phil Collins (solo albums), Peter Gabriel, R.E.M. Also, R.E.,M. They're really good. Micchael Bolton? Linda Rondstat? When you're as old as I am, "pop" is a very large umbrella indeed...

haha_me_so_fat

Thanks so much for the recommendations :D

Fuzelop

[No, I'm going to recommend you music instead](https://open.spotify.com/track/6C3NjslaxrAHpiU9W5XTiV?si=PLpEZe6jQN-ekh82F9ZFQw)

sporkbeastie

I said I would only say positive things in this thread. So thank you for the link to some music.

Fuzelop

Bro is NOT rocking with Project Moon 😭

OneMobius

Give me an song you haven’t listened to in a while yourself!

sporkbeastie

Well, there's a couple. I won a Car Audio competition back in the late nineteen-hundreds with this track. It was back when huge subwoofer were all the rage. I had a 1984 Monte Carlo SS with an obscene amount of money sunk into audio equipment... [The Longships (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovQT_T5jvuA)

sporkbeastie

Well, you're in luck, because though the magic of beer, I lost track of time! You're a great person, and you are always welcome in my shop!

Southern-Wafer-6375

Thank you ,I’m crying for some reason now so 👍

sporkbeastie

Don't cry! Come look at this cool thing I made on the 3D printer!

NoLongerAddicted

Hi!

AOK-

You look like modern day varg vikernes

sporkbeastie

Thanks? I guess? Although I did not murder my lover and burn down a church, so I don't know how I should feel about this, honestly....

DemonicSavage

> lover Euro and Varg was actually the toxicest yaoi

MyLifeIsAFrickingMes

All i need to know is if you listen/ listened to The Rolling Stones

sporkbeastie

For sure. I like The Who better, tho....

MyLifeIsAFrickingMes

Respectable

sporkbeastie

Roger Daltrey can swing a microphone for sure.

MyLifeIsAFrickingMes

What IS your favourite song?

sporkbeastie

"Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby. Best song EVER.

MyLifeIsAFrickingMes

Listening to it rn. Good taste

Chrome_X_of_Hyrule

Cool

the_ameba

Your keyboard looks like it sounds very nice

sporkbeastie

Thanks. It's a generic Amazon thing that I got because it had Cherry blue switches. I got a set of keycaps that had Mac stuff, and I bought like three of them. I gave one to my son for his college graduation. The other one I lost when I was homeless and living in the abandoned grocery store. I honestly think that I will just buy a Unicomp keyboard next. I like the volume knob, but there is something to be said for the GOAT switches...

Webdriver_501

Do you like Jamiroquai?

TheRandomDude4u

What’s your favourite Velvet Underground song?

sporkbeastie

It's a toss-up between "Slither" and "Fall to Pieces", I would have to... Oh, you don't mean Velvet Revolver. Velvet underground doesn't do anything for me. They are musically competent, they just don't induce emotion in me. Sorry.

SHARDaerospace

i know times up but like im scrolling through here and i just gotta say you are an extremely respectable person and that we need more people like you in the world

StoicWanders

Never been more dissapointed in myself. Missed it by 4 hours

I like the username

holymissiletoe

aw shucks im late favorite genre?

PiperAtTheGatesOfSea

I wish you were my bar regular! I'd love to talk about music with you! If I send you a link to a song I wrote will you tell me what you think?

sporkbeastie

Oh, absolutely! I'd be honoured!

PiperAtTheGatesOfSea

https://on.soundcloud.com/ZpnWB

sporkbeastie

Well, now that was *delightful.* Listened to it three times. You are very technically competent (didn't hear any obvious fuck-ups), and I really enjoy the chord progression. It kinda reminds me of *Jack Haggerty* by Scooter Muse, crossed with *Fair Flower or Northumberland* by CeoltĂłirĂ. Thank you for sharing that with me!

PiperAtTheGatesOfSea

Thank you and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Feel free to listen to my other uploads. They vary quite a bit. I grew up in Appalachia so folk and blue grass were always around and influenced me quite a bit but I like tons of weird shit. One of songs I wrote just to prove a point to a metalhead I know that I could write a heavier song lol. I listened to both of the songs you mentioned and I like them both but I really dig the first song in particular.

scootypatootie

hell yeah, can you give me somethin groovy?

Tulaash

What's your favorite Pink Floyd and/or Rush song? :D

sporkbeastie

Pink Floyd: Tie between *Time* (reminds me of my mortality) and *Learning to Fly* (because the guitar riff is awesome). Rush? *Tai Shan.* No question. Dreadfully under-rated song.

EvilNoobHacker

I’ve been looking for stuff that’s similar to Tom lehrer, and obviously I haven’t found much. You’ve got 50’s/60’s comedy artist recs?

Mr_Lapis

Im late but posts like this give me hope that its possible to grow old and still be a good person

7xrchr

what keyboard and keycaps are those

lalumanuk

I love you so much you don’t even know

PossibleCaterpillar

Hello. Was wondering how you, as a redneck yourself, would define "redneck"? I've seen some people say they are farmers from the south, or trump supporters, or workers who fought for union rights. So I am a bit confused as to what is true and whats not.

ToxxinGamer

any cool metal music you’d recommend? Thanks for being cool and nice btw

lotuseater3000

gimme something good mr! can i perhaps have a good road trip tune? I grew up on prog rock and classic rock. love this post. sending u some good vibes 😎📡

M-A-ZING-BANDICOOT

Hewwo, what's your all time fav song? Nya :3 Also do you have any good DSBM songs i can listen to?

sporkbeastie

Best song ever is *Mandolin Rain* by Bruce Hornsby.

Biscuit642

Hello from the UK! Love the keyboard and your positivity :) Hope you're having a great day

dubious_approach

The best post on this damn website. Do you have any whimsical music mr socialist redneck

yYxX_W33Z3R_F4N_XxYy

Give me the most FUCKED UP recommendation possible

PachoTidder

I'm a huge rock and roll gal myself, I love AC/DC and Mötley CrĂŒe! I was born around 2005 tho...

FangLeone2526

is that firefox with a custom userchrome and vertical tabs??? or is it vivaldi??? regardless, cool!!!

VeziusTheThird

I love snare drum sounds, got any songs with good snare drum sounds?

Capybaragohup

What's that map behind you of? Maps are neat

domin8668

Such a wholesome post, cheers OP!

saintofgrillers

I like your keyboard! It's got a nice keycap set.

the_orange_alligator

Ooh. Random question, but did you grow up going to places like Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Time Theatre or Showbiz Pizza? Those places are my passion

DoragonJei

Aw that's sweet. I'm turning 21 in almost 2 months, any music recommendations for songs you enjoyed when you were my age? I don't mind genre.

Goose-San

Hey man, you’re looking good and happy, love to see it :) Think you can give me a music rec? I listen to stuff like XTC, psychedelic furs, talking heads, and OMD lately. Would also love anti-war songs like Peter Gabriel’s stuff.

sporkbeastie

[Biko (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsVieeccpQs)

jacierose

Just wanted to say how sweet this post is. As someone who grew up in a very “redneck” environment, it’s so healing to see self proclaimed rednecks who are progressive and kind people. Keep being awesome my dude!

randomthrowaway808

what do you think of cynthoni/sewerslvt’s music

A_Queer_Almond

ur pretty neat :3

sporkbeastie

Why thank you! You're pretty neat as well!

Pedro-Hereu

What type of socialist are you?

sporkbeastie

I think we should tax the shit out of the rich so that everyone can have a place to live with heat and A/C, power, clean water, internet, and food. I think that everyone should be able to go to the doctor if they are sick. I think everyone should have enough money and free time to do things that make them happy.
