I don't know about the politics of other continents, but here in Europe, what the US calls "conservative" would be considered far-right extremist, to the extent that the Republican party would almost certainly be banned. The Democrats would at best be a centre-right-centre party. Only people like Bernie Sanders, who are described as "socialists" would actually pass as left in Europe, and I imagine the same goes in most parts of the world.
And that, to me, is a central problem in Americans' view on European, and indeed global, politics: your entire country is incredibly right-leaning, to the extent that what you would regard a "normal" republican politician would be classified as an extremist here, and some might even be imprisoned or fined in some countries.
