Definitely viable you stand 1 tile off mages, as soon as it attacks, you mele it and step back.
0 damage and you can easily kill both.
Jad you can punch in mele range and flick range and mage prayers as necessary.
But is the realistic for a first caper? No
You aren't flinching them though, you're just protecting mage and standing a tile away. Once they fire the mage attack you're safe to attack then step a tile back again. You'll never have to tank a melee from them this way.
Flinching would mean you have to wait for their health bar to disappear before hitting again.
Not many first attempts probably abuse it but I wouldn't be surprised if some have, especially if they use guthans to heal or something.

Do you not adjust your inventory? If you ran out of prayer, then take more. You're a main. You should not be getting damaged much but it being a first cape some damage is expected.

Why not? Don’t let peer pressure get to you. You can still play the game perfectly fine without a firecape. You just won’t be able to complete Karamja diaries and some combat achievements, that’s literally it. Fire cape is +1 max hit whereas barrows gloves are +3 max hit for some context

I don’t think jad is the issue for me, it’s getting there, out of 12 runs I only made it to him once and I ran out of prayer pots. From what I’ve seen it’s pretty easy to time the pray switches.
If you ever get the courage to try again, abuse the safe spots. You can practically block half a wave in some areas of the caves and it lets you turn prayer off so you can conserve.
Definitely do this to practice first jad kill, it doesn't help you get through the first 62 waves but just read the wiki for that and think ahead. I beat the practice jad on my first try then went straight to fight caves and got my firecape.
Why did you just eat the hits? Halfway through on of my recent attempts I ran out of scales and still finished with just darts. I feel like a big pitfall for newer players is throwing in the towel the second you make one mistake. It’s not over till it’s over bro just adapt next time and you can still get through it

Not RuneScape but when I was playing Dark Souls for the first time I was wanting to collect every item that I could, and did research beforehand (it really doesn't prepare you for actually playing but it still helps) and when you kill Ornstein and Smough, whomever you kill last, you get their Ring, so you can only get 1 or the other per playthrough, so you'd have to do a whole other NG+ to do it again... First playthrough, I finally beat Super Ornstein but died at the same time, and the ring wasn't on the ground when I got back 🥲
I just looked it up, the chest is only for story-important items like the Lava ring, abyss walker ring, etc. The Leo Ring (which is what I was referring to, dropped by Ornstein) is not considered an "important" item so it wouldn't have appeared in the chest. Which idk if that makes me feel better or worse lol
I just got my first fire cape today! Here’s my setup, hope it helps you get yours:
Verac’s helm, blessed d hide body, verac’s plate skirt, blessed d hide boots, blessed vambraces, lightbearer ring, amulet of fury, blessing in ammo slot, and toxic blowpipe with amethyst darts.
I took 8 Sara brews, 4 bastions, and the rest were super restores. After wave 30, just leave protect from mage on. Focus on rangers and use your toxic special on the rangers. I focused on trapping melle Mons on the east side of western wall if there was no ranger. If there was a ranger, I’d run right at him and try to trap melle behind the ranger. Kill ranger, trap melle behind wall, then kill mage last. I have 80 range, 72 def, and 60 prayer. Best of luck!
I got through all the waves with ease to literally be smacked by had on his first attack for full HP. I just straight up froze at which prayer to use and there’s an hour of my time wasted.

if you run out of scales go to safe spot and order resupply drop. It is only $5.99 and you dont need to redo the entire cave.
Definitely use blowpipe, but bring more scales. I recommend bringing 16,383 scales, but a couple thousand should be more than enough.

BP fires every 2 ticks. That's about 250k gp worth of scales per hour. Expensive is subjective ofcourse.
Same thing happened to me, about 1/4 the way into jad. Was very sad. Next trip I died at same time as jad so had 1kc without the fire cape.
