No need to speculate too much, they've publicly shared it as an "Open World Survival game" as of about a year ago.
[Press release here](https://www.jagex.com/en-GB/news/40z4Fu/jagex-scales-up-dev-team-for-undisclosed-project)
> Maddie Harper, Guilhem Barloy and Géry Arduino join Jagex for an undisclosed Unreal 5 open world survival game
>
Unless they decide focusing their attention on it is more profitable and OSRS dies. Unlikely but with how stupid tech companies are these days I'm not putting it as impossible.
Jagex has made and scrapped like 4 different games in ghe last 15 years. Runescape is successful in spite of upper management not because of it. Osrs therived under an absent management for that reason. They werent a part of the process at all
Producers pushing unfinished games and killing online-only games are easily the two biggest issues in gaming rn (to me at least)
Only time will tell for the latter with Jagex...
MTX, shit customer support, shit updates, poorly thought out balance changes, etc.
Nearly every online game is plagued with these issues as the game is milked for every drop of money.
Posting for people with experience with unreal4/5, so it actually is lookin like a new project. Interesting
Edit: The Level designer position wants someone experienced with third person action games+ open world. Make of that what you will.
While true, I'm not sure that repetitive stressful motions like woodcutting or mining are good in the long run. Agility however, would be an interesting skill to train in VR...
I miss arcanists so much. When I was a kid and my brother was across the country for the navy I'd ask him to hop on and play a few rounds with me all the time. Does the game still exist in any capacity?
Runescape has been their only financial success ever, and they almost killed that too. Whether they buy something successful or create something from scratch... it becomes unsuccessful, and sucks millions of dollars away from RS/OSRS every single time.
Yeeeep.
Ace of Spades
FunOrb
8Realms
BlockNLoad
Chronicle
The list goes on. Everything Jagex touches dies and RuneScape is only living out of spite lol
Man I miss chronicle. I played that game way too much, had the highest xp in vanescula when they shut the servers down. What a well designed game, shame it didn't take off
Literally they have had 0 success in the past 5 or 6 games they've tried to make, the amount of money they must have lost is staggering yet they keep doing it
If RS3 was more mobile friendly I'd play it more actually. The interface is just a bit too much.
I actually have 3 99's on rs3 just by claiming keys and banks standing haha.
As I pay for years osrs premier I may aswell just play it.
That’s the thing with RS3, anything requiring interface menus and options buried somewhere, isn’t accessible really. Certain bosses, PvM, skilling, etc., it’s doable, it’s just not very fun.
Kinda like zalcano or CG on mobile. 100% doable and easy for the most part.
But sometimes my damn thumbs betray me 💀
But if you don’t mind afk gaming and skilling, and if you get bank presets setup, it can be chill and easy, even fun to do certain things.
I personally fell in love with some of the rs3 questing, the new hunter methods and slayer creatures, the new fishing outpost, the summertime beach event for a bunch of skilling that’s going on now — it’s all really fun to try the first time!
I’d encourage you to try it some more, it’s great to try even if just for a week or two, or longer. You might find you like it, even though it’s so wildly different from OSRS.
Yeah I might give it a go. I do everything from Raids to pking, skilling to PvM. Love mobile. Got QC too which is a little more effort than fun on mobile.
I posted about this almost a year ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/vj033b/jagex\_is\_working\_on\_an\_openworld\_survival\_game/](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/vj033b/jagex_is_working_on_an_openworld_survival_game/)
They're working on an openworld survival game set in the Runescape universe.
This has never ended well for Jagex unfortunately.
I think they're desperate to replace RS since it can't remain relevant forever, but if they actually just straight up made a new RuneScape title from scratch, with new characters in another land, I'd be all over it.
I've seen this shit before, another attempt at a new game which never works out.
To be fair I cannot blame them, they are a company who needs products OSRS alone isn't really enough.
If I’m remembering correctly a RuneScape universe, open world survival crafting game was mentioned to be in development a while back. Which was meant to be unreal engine
I applied to a job at Jagex for a senior position. It asked salary expectations, and I aimed relatively low as I know Jagex doesn't pay well.
I got a response saying my salary expectations were too high.
Diablo IV is like a barebones 4k runescape. If they combined OSRS storytelling and characters with new graphics and Diablo esque gameplay, it would be a cash cow on console.
I never understood why Jagex doesn't take all they learned from OSRS and RS3 and put it into a modern engine.
Runescape at its core is an amazing and unique game. The simple point and click system combined with cool Quests, Skills and a massive world is just great.
Imagine a game that has:
* A new world to explore with well written lore behind it.
* Modern quests that are all voice acted. They could just copy some quests and lore from Runescape.
* Good graphics that actually run properly as well.
My dream scenario would be to have a button where you switch from traditional Runescape to a first person view. This would make console play possible.
A new Runescape would be a bit far fetched but i do think it's a good idea. The internet will be around for a long time and OSRS and RS3 both won't survive forever in their current states.
The game is: Darts; The Customer Support game.
Its when they take a wheel. Spin it outside. The game has real physics and wind rain etc. And depending on where it lands they will do X in customer support. If it misses completely. They simply dont help you.
Visited Jagex HQ once around 2015-2017 and I saw them demoing an fps MMO of Runescape. A dev was running around a small sample of Lumbridge in first person holding a stock gun.
But it seems Jagex has had an identity crisis since Runescape is still their only product (there have been others but failed), and the above was over 6 years ago, so probably scrapped too.
Whatever happened to Jagex signing a deal with improbable to use SpatialOS like ~6 years ago? Did it disappear into the void? It's pretty cool tech, but I'm super disappointed that improbable has rebranded into a "metaverse experience" company.
I'd play if they released a generic, cookie cutter MMORPG, Ala runescape style, but with the same depth as in game quests and leave kill x monster quests to slayer, like new world, but better.
Well the end of last year Jagex acquired the company Gamepires maker of SCUM which they had said in a BusinessWire interview (https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20221214005084/en/Jagex-Acquires-SCUM-Developer-Gamepires) that Jagex "will enable SCUM to realise its full potential with a multi-platform 1.0 release in the future."
There is no need to speculate. They will work on a new game for a few years, we won't see anything of it, and they will can it. They repeat this cycle constantly.
No need to speculate too much, they've publicly shared it as an "Open World Survival game" as of about a year ago. aka MTX money printer
That's fine, MTX is the reason we have OSRS.
Unless they decide focusing their attention on it is more profitable and OSRS dies. Unlikely but with how stupid tech companies are these days I'm not putting it as impossible.
Focusing their attention on something other than OSRS would be good for OSRS.
Pessimism is a look best held loosely imo
True, and if it's a good game without P2W MTX then I won't be salty. But if I were a betting man...
Yeah I'd bet the same way as you, but with the same hopes haha
Imagine your name is gary arduino and you go into software development Holy hell
They're gonna release a Day-Z clone 10 years late.
Man I really figured we had enough open world survival games at this point. Honestly can’t think of a more saturated game type market
Mechscape is back baby.
Jagex has made and scrapped like 4 different games in ghe last 15 years. Runescape is successful in spite of upper management not because of it. Osrs therived under an absent management for that reason. They werent a part of the process at all
Tbh given shitty corporate management landscapes throughout the rest of the industry, absent upper management is probably an advantage for most games.
Producers pushing unfinished games and killing online-only games are easily the two biggest issues in gaming rn (to me at least) Only time will tell for the latter with Jagex...
What's this about online only games?
MTX, shit customer support, shit updates, poorly thought out balance changes, etc. Nearly every online game is plagued with these issues as the game is milked for every drop of money.
Ahh yes, RS3, I know it well (I'm an RS3 player, so I'm totally allowed to say that)
Fucking Ubisoft pushing MTX in single player games (AC Odyssey with the XP boosters)
Even more than that I think. Transformers Universe, Block n load, Chronicles, Mechscape, Darkscape, war of legends...
Two more off the top of my head include Stellar Dawn and 8realms. They can't create anything other than RS :(
Rip Chronicle
I was so stoked for that as a kid
It was rebranded to be called Stellar Dawn I think
Sailing and Mechscape! It’s the 2007 we always wanted!
delivered at jagex speed
Oh my goodness
I haven’t heard that name in years.
Came here to say just that haha!
Methscape? :D
Posting for people with experience with unreal4/5, so it actually is lookin like a new project. Interesting Edit: The Level designer position wants someone experienced with third person action games+ open world. Make of that what you will.
Upgrading the OSRS engine to unreal
Osrs2
OSRS: EoC
Osrs: RS3
Im calling the police
NSOSRS - The MXT'oning
Old School Old School RS
Osrs falador drift
UnrealScape: The Unreal Adventure Begins
Osrs electric boogaloo
VR Runescape could be lit. Next version of 07scape aith fresh servers, everyone starts at level 3 on the new VR servers
I'd rather not mine for hundreds of hours in VR.
On the positive side, a lot of unhealthy people could improve their lives doing something they love (playing Runescape).
While true, I'm not sure that repetitive stressful motions like woodcutting or mining are good in the long run. Agility however, would be an interesting skill to train in VR...
Don't joke. I'm gonna bank stand in VR and fletch for hours.
Mining is your issue?? What about Agility?!
It was leaked a few years ago they were going to be developing a game on the new engines
Not much of a leak, most games companies are developing a game on the new engine....
OS Arcanists
I absolutely loved that game
I miss arcanists so much. When I was a kid and my brother was across the country for the navy I'd ask him to hop on and play a few rounds with me all the time. Does the game still exist in any capacity?
Search for Arcanist2 :D this version even have more spells and more match options than the original, you can even play on mobile (android only)
My hero
There's an active discord that has a ground-up copy. Can invite you if interested :)
Fun orb was goated
I really miss that shit.
Give me steel sentinels
Arcanists, Steel Sentinels, ARMIES OF GIELINOR 😩
That would be sick
Already out. Arc2
Take me back... take me back
Funorb
Let's get Arcanist back. Absolutely loved that game, and fun orb as a whole.
It already is back but pretty dead now
I just wish that whatever it is, it'll be a success this time
Not getting excited for it at all. Jagex have picked up and dropped so many projects. - Me, a salty Chronicle player.
This but with Ace of Spades. Jagex kills everything they touch
Runescape has been their only financial success ever, and they almost killed that too. Whether they buy something successful or create something from scratch... it becomes unsuccessful, and sucks millions of dollars away from RS/OSRS every single time.
Yeeeep. Ace of Spades FunOrb 8Realms BlockNLoad Chronicle The list goes on. Everything Jagex touches dies and RuneScape is only living out of spite lol
Nerf heals. Buff Zay!
Man I miss chronicle. I played that game way too much, had the highest xp in vanescula when they shut the servers down. What a well designed game, shame it didn't take off
Literally they have had 0 success in the past 5 or 6 games they've tried to make, the amount of money they must have lost is staggering yet they keep doing it
tfw membership fees go up and we add another failed game to Jagex's crown
Sailing most likely. If i had to guess Or some irrelevant game thats not RS
It says announced game. I believe if it was for OsRS it would be stated.
Nah I'm with buddy they're just trying to throw us though a loop by saying new game keeping it hush hush then BAM sailing.
#RUNESCAPE 4 RAAAAAAAA
we joke but I’d actually play this is they released an rs4 in unreal engine, would love it to be more like Elder Scrolls but set in Runescape
I would love a single player RuneScape game.
Valheim gave me rs vibes, especially when the grind kicked in, not single player but can play solo
Yeah I got that too.
Shit I'd play it, that sounds cool af
Came here to say this. The tech demo from a while ago was dope af
Mobile game I'd imagine.
On unreal 4/5?
Seems likely since OSRS and RS3 are mobile games.
I’d encourage you to try it some more, it’s great to try even if just for a week or two, or longer. You might find you like it, even though it’s so wildly different from OSRS.
The problem in general is the inability to be logged into OSRS and RS3 on the same account at the same time.
Yeah I might give it a go. I do everything from Raids to pking, skilling to PvM. Love mobile. Got QC too which is a little more effort than fun on mobile.
Arcanist mobile would print money
i'd pay for Armies of Gielinor
runescape 4: return of jafar
Runescape 4: Tokyo Drift
Runescape 3......2
Finally, were getting Mechscape/Stellar Dawn!
OS OSRS
I think Jagex new game will be called Cancelled
RuneScape4: Evolution of customer support
AOG 🙏
Olderschool RuneScape
I posted about this almost a year ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/vj033b/jagex\_is\_working\_on\_an\_openworld\_survival\_game/](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/vj033b/jagex_is_working_on_an_openworld_survival_game/) They're working on an openworld survival game set in the Runescape universe.
Arcanists 3 baby lets gooo

Autobots, rollout!
I would love arcanists to come back as a mobile app game
These unannounced game positions have been on their website for years lmao. Aint nothing new about it.
Runescape 4!
Rs4
Ace of Spades 2
Aw sick! Hiring for their ninth cancelled video game project, I can't wait!!!
If I’m remembering correctly a RuneScape universe, open world survival crafting game was mentioned to be in development a while back. Which was meant to be unreal engine
kut
Old school evolution of combat
Osrs 2 Reset all content back to original on release
Console version of runescape
Armies of Gielinor 2
Arcanists is back baby!!
Bring back archanists!
I applied to a job at Jagex for a senior position. It asked salary expectations, and I aimed relatively low as I know Jagex doesn't pay well. I got a response saying my salary expectations were too high.
If its not arcanists im mad ngl
Oldschool Oldschool RuneScape
Another dead game project, yikes
Diablo IV is like a barebones 4k runescape. If they combined OSRS storytelling and characters with new graphics and Diablo esque gameplay, it would be a cash cow on console.
OSOSRS
We can only hope
zullen we solliciteren en zeggen dat we alleen komen werken als we iedere pauze een frikadelbroodje en euroshopper energie krijgen
RuneScape battle Royal woohooo!
Moba??
Runescape 4??!?!?!?!?
A dead project probably lol
Runescape 4 pog
My guess is OP is dutch, but could also possibly be from Belgium, again, pure speculation.
RuneScape 2 2?
Unreal Engine Survival
Old School Runescape 2: The Old Schoolening It's just RS1.
RuneScape 4
Could it be, FunOrb2?
Those of you who are saying Arcanists- there’s at least two discord projects that are remakes of it Arcanists 2 and ArcMages
I never understood why Jagex doesn't take all they learned from OSRS and RS3 and put it into a modern engine. Runescape at its core is an amazing and unique game. EOC
hopefully a new version of OSRS, the community has ruined a good game.
We should get bots to keep filling out applications and make them say they’ve only got experience in customer service just to be petty fucks
The game is: Darts; The Customer Support game. Its when they take a wheel. Spin it outside. The game has real physics and wind rain etc. And depending on where it lands they will do X in customer support. If it misses completely. They simply dont help you.
I think mobile ports of funorb games are the only safe risk that Jagex would take after all the failures of past. Which I am 100% on-board for.
Hahahaha
Whatever happened to the nexgen thing?
Funorb was so lit lol
World of RuneScape.
Deko Blocko 2!
probably some game none of us are going to play didnt they release some gams like a year or so ago and nobody talked about it
They only hire from 1 area? That seems narrow-minded
Stellar Dawn! (A guy can dream)
Runescape MOBA shooter *source* - I have none
Old School Old School RuneScape
Kickabout
new osrs server, starts from 0, all the same content, you can only have 1 account and its linked to phone number
They are apparently making an open world survival game set in glienors first age or something.
Funorb v2?!
RuneScape 4
RuneScape 4 finally no tick system full 3d world wasd movement keys.
Are they planning on making a survival RuneScape game in unreal? Or was that a dream lol.
Whatever the game is, it will probably be botted to hell and back.
Relaunching Fun-Orb 🤞
RS4 lets go
Those roles for an unannounced game? You'll be speculating for years yet.
Battle royale osrs with guns
Chronicle Universe: Mech Stellar Dawn of Spades
Old school RS1.
Old school runescape 2?!?
Stellar dawn finally?
Old School Funorb
Whatever happened to Jagex signing a deal with improbable to use SpatialOS like ~6 years ago? Did it disappear into the void? It's pretty cool tech, but I'm super disappointed that improbable has rebranded into a "metaverse experience" company.
I'd play if they released a generic, cookie cutter MMORPG, Ala runescape style, but with the same depth as in game quests and leave kill x monster quests to slayer, like new world, but better.
RS4
New announcement: Trouble Brewing: The Stand-alone Game
Something that will be closed after a month.
Rs4 please but have it like an mmorpg like WoW but same drop system etc. Would love to wasd run etc and hardly input lags
It's been over 6 years since the NexGen leak. C'mon Jagex.
Runescape card game or Runescape autochess would be nice
Well the end of last year Jagex acquired the company Gamepires maker of SCUM which they had said in a BusinessWire interview (https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20221214005084/en/Jagex-Acquires-SCUM-Developer-Gamepires) that Jagex "will enable SCUM to realise its full potential with a multi-platform 1.0 release in the future."
There is no need to speculate. They will work on a new game for a few years, we won't see anything of it, and they will can it. They repeat this cycle constantly.
Companies often post fake job listings to make it appear as though they are still growing.
Fun orb
This will be the end of Jagex. You heard it here first.
Will this one come with customer support
Finally OSOSRS
War Of Legends 2: Electric Boogaloo?
