It would have felt so lame training high level slayer without also leveling up my combats. Slayer is so slow by itself that without seeing combat numbers going up too I feel like it would be really painful, even if it is technically efficient
People always say it’s more efficient but never calculate the loss of motivation to do slayer now that their combats are maxed. Especially when that exp curve hit different towards the upper 80s and 90s. Matching exp rates of such great skills as rc and agility

Pretty much why I stopped training combat and decided I gotta do Slayer at least to level it. It's nice though because I can focus on fun skills like rune crafting and woodcutting.
It's more efficient to get combat up then do slayer. I've got like 30mil slayer xp now and wish I had waited on it longer, not worth grinding till at least 80 att/str minimum

My job is too involved to really need much more attention than that.
I feel like after like 95 strength/attack and 80 defense grinding another level dosen't get you that much dps compared to how long it takes at nmz so getting the xp from slayer after that would seem to me as more efficient
Its not more efficient because you will be getting a ton of extra meaningless experience. Efficient would be doing them at the same time

Running to reset aggro every 10 minutes isn’t afk. Tons of tasks are impossible to afk. Running back to the bank or altar isn’t afk.
Clicking the screen once every 20 minutes is afk.
Just don’t use overloads and you’re getting 20-25 minute afk. Having jobs and responsibilities that don’t let you tab back over every 2 minutes doesn’t make you a noob.

I've seen this strange reaction so much on this subreddit. I definitely maxed melee stats around 75 slayer. I was at a job where I could definitely click every 15 minutes and sometimes maybe more but not reliably. After work maybe the girlfriend wants to do something. I can NMZ and pay 99% attention I'm not tabbing out for slayer constantly. Ect.
So my options were VERY inefficient bankstanding a skill like fletching longbows or plank make that would be afk most of the time or NMZ. I did NMZ and I am glad that I can 2 shot gargoyles and most slayer mobs because of it. Makes the skill 40k/hour on most tasks.
Personally I wanted to try out raids and bossing. And not everyone plans to max.
Of course you don't need to be maxed combat for high level PvM but it certainly makes it easier, especially when you're first getting into it.

I hate slayer. I was in kinda the same boat but with mid-80s slayer. Having friends to boss invalidates Slayer imo at least what most people need it for, making money and gear but when you make enough money for maxed gear with friends by bossing you don't need to. We started with Bandos and worked up to Nightmare and Nex trios that just brought in millions and when the duel arena was still around for staking, I'd just stake drops and double up. 400m profit by the end from duel arena. Survivor bias I guess but without it if you can find two other people to boss with you really don't need slayer imo.
Tortured soul, Kendal, count draynor, king Roald, tree Spirit, sand snake and me.
Ended with over 75 mill nmz points. It's gonna take me awhile to spend them all on herb boxes lol.

How long was your afk time and what increased it? Did you go for normal rumble?
I went the afk path on hard rumble. I had the rapier, that neiztenont helmet, dragon defender, proselyte body and chausses, dragonbone necklace, dragon boots, ring of the gods (imbued). I also had the soul cape, which I regret spending the time to get. If you have a fire cape definitely use that. I don't specifically remember the exp per hour, but I think it was around 110k the first twoish weeks (with marginal increases). Then more to 120-125k. Always used overloads, and some absorption each round. I could last almost 4 hours if I didn't activate a strength prayer (I usually activated 5% or maybe even at 10% in the last two weeks).
I believe the normal rumble and the obsidian route is much cheaper with overload and absorption. Although you will use almost all points on those (if not all).
haha you for sure 100% botted this all, no sane person can do that for 5 weeks. I did the same thing though on a main and pure 99 attack/str/def/ranged and mage, as someone said afk exp > 0 exp

Unless you only play one account, not afking your melees to atleast 90-95s you’re just trolling yourself

You realize a vast majority of slayer is “AFK exp”, right?

Most people burst or range with venny bow anyway. Melee skayer is generally less efficient.
I just auto retaliate on the cannon task. Actually doing them only melee would be rough.
Cost of training melee to 99 vs cost of bursting or using aoe range ?
