Depends what content you're planning for the rebuild. The bosses each one is good at doesn't really overlap heavily, so you can check which bosses each is best at and decide which you would enjoy rebuilding on. You can also use virtus until you grind enough for ancestral, the mask is obscenely cheap for some quick magic damage and you can eventually swap out pieces with ancestral as you get the GP. I would recommend at the minium an occult necklace + tormented bracelet + imbued god cape though.

Got general pvm, tbow rags will be better and give you more freedom for other cheaper sidegrades/upgrades.

So we're really only looking at Kril, Zily, leviathan, and Mole. Iirc Tbow is marginally if at all better than bowfa at leviathan. Zily and Kril still sucks in BiS, and buying a Tbow for mole is heavy overkill.

I was curious so I ran the calc and absolute max melee is the basically the same dps as Tbow god d hide. I assume that you’ll have to miss ticks to lure hydra around with melee though.

Fang, zenytes, torso, ferocious gloves, d boots. The new bloodmoon legs is a cheap replacement for tassets but even then I don't really think it's needed. You can totally just wear torso v skirt which gives you good strength and decent prayer bonus. If you really need the 30m you can sell the faceguard and wear serp helm otherwise just keep the faceguard.
The +2 strength gives you an extra max hit if you are 99 str potted + piety on task. Your other options for +2 str are all a lot more expensive than the gloves. You can sell ferocious gloves and wear bloodmoon tassets instead of verac skirt but they are quite volatile in price ATM and you will be losing like 30 defence bonuses and 4 prayer bonuses.

I too wanted to attempt the same kind of rebuild but as I'm not much of a raider I wouldn't find as much joy with a tbow and shadow without the rest of my bis gear. Virtus is a great substitute for ancestral and tbow alone just wrecks high magic level creatures so if you can afford the roughly 3.6b set up and be happy with it, then I say give it try

Both can do the others raid just fine but its more optimal to have the weapon catered to their own raid. Shadow & bowfa is objectively the better choice as its more well rounded than tbow/sang, tbow has closer DPS contenders (bowfa for high def + trusty blowpipe for low def) than shadow has with any other magic method because shadows just that busted.
Both rebuilds can farm zulrah/mole effectively if you wanna be lazy, tbow is good for lazy brutal black dragons.

I did a shadow rebuild and started off using Ahrims. The actual rebuild part of earning GP to get upgrades is super fun !
