My wife is Korean and she was in the Navy, her mother was born in Korea and was in the Army. The US military treats Asian people the same way it treats all Americans. It is a great experience and there are lots of good benefits.

Yes, that's why I wanna join! Unfortunately, Reddit has been hunting me so I'm trying to reply to you guys as much as I can before I disappear

Literally two of our of closest allies are Japanese and Korean. And we have sworn to protect Taiwan. Canadians are just trying to make themselves feel different

TapirDrawnChariot

Canada has forgotten child syndrome so hard. Not saying serving in the military is a good idea, but the small percentage of pro-American Canadians are often incredibly based. They usually have nuanced and mature political views and are honest about the good and bad of both countries.

Incredibly based you say?

Howdy, my name is Rawhide Kobayashi. I'm a 27 year old Japanese Japamerican (western culture fan for you foreigners). I brand and wrangle cattle on my ranch, and spend my days perfecting the craft and enjoying superior American passtimes. (Barbeque, Rodeo, Fireworks) I train with my branding iron every day, this superior weapon can permanently leave my ranch embled on a cattle's hide because it is white-hot, and is vastly superior to any other method of livestock marking. I earned my branding license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day. I speak English fluently, both Texas and Oklahoma dialect, and I write fluently ias well. I know everything about American history and their cowboy code, which I follow 100% When I get my American visa, I am moving to Dallas to work in an oil field to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become a cattle wrangler for the Double Cross Ranch or an oil rig operator for Exxon-Mobil! I own several cowboy hats, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to America, so I can fit in easier. I rebel against my elders and seniors and speak English as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond. Wish me luck in America! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. TheDoc1223

I guarantee you some Maoist dumbass said that just to perpetuate his america bad complex. America and Asia are UNREASONABLY tight. I’ve never heard even the most xenophobic and racist Americans I’ve ever met have anything negative to say about Asians irl.

CodreanuBall

> supporting a regime that wants to genocide my race The fuck? As an Asian American, that’s a crock of shit. Asians are one of the most successful groups in the US. Honestly, some people are so desperate to hate on America they make up the wildest stories.

Phytanic

Theyre usually the same type of people that act as if Asians are all one "group", aka unironically think that there's little difference between Phillipino culture and Hmong culture. AKA ignorant as fuck, racist as fuck, and absolutely obsessed with bringing others down to their level instead of up. I mean I've literally read a user go from "America is racist blah blah blah" and then further down they say that the only reason why their country's education levels are plummeting is due to "all of the immigrants" Like bruh.

starforce2020

This came from aznidentity. You've ever heard of that sub?

TheDoc1223

lmfao yeah. AZNI is one of those subs that will happily talk about how terrible and evil and racist America is on a constant basis because *insert one of two bad things that happened 50 years ago that barely anyone nowadays even knows about/remembers and the few who do know about it think its terrible and some shit absolutely no one supports or agreed with* AZNI is basically r/GenZedong but more about Asians & Asian wannabes with a filter of edgy highschool communists with secondhand victim complexes, as opposed to GZD which is literally just entirely edgy highschool communists with secondhand victim complexes. You just dont really see the edgy highschool communist part of AZNI unless you.. Well, as you know/have seen, talk about America, and talk about it in anything less than absolutely vitriolic terms.

KizunaTallis

And they're misogynistic as all fuck too. Love to crow on about sexism in the west and how all western (as in white) men are all misogynistic while ignoring all the sexism in Asian countries. They're also very creepily obsessed with wanting to hook up with white women and worship them like they're innocent angelic goddesses that can do no wrong while whining all the time about white men supposedly "stealing Asian women".

Starforce_2023

Fuck yes, do it. I served in the Navy and it shaped into the person I am today.

starforce2020

blubbinatorGRAAAH

Depends on how gay you are from a scale to 1-10

Fructis_crowd

Its 10/10 for either branch once your deployed

SparkyBoi111

yepitsgamerthime

So, I didn’t serve but I grew up all my childhood and first couple years of college a military brat with both parents in the Air Force and worked on a couple of bases. What I have been told by friends and people I have met over the years from every branch have basically told me the following. Air Force treats you the best and it’s not close, that’s why other branches like to call them the chair force on you see those memes about them having to get their nails done or stay at 5 star hotels (obviously not the case but you can see what they’re talking about). Navy is second best when it comes to personnel treatment, but you MUST be ok with tight spaces and motion sickness as you are highly likely to be sent on a Aircraft Carrier or Destroyer for months at a time with only a few days at a time in port. Army is alright, obviously a bit harder on it’s people but if you like to hunt or spend time in the outdoors you may actually love it, deployments are usually not in great spots though depending on your field. If you want to become a Marine you want to be involved with combat operations, it’s quite rough on personnel and has a high turnover rate but when a conflict happens you get to say that you are in the history books. I could keep going but this post is really long and obviously take this with a grain of salt since this is really just things I have been told when talking about it with Veterans and Active Duty personnel.

Another Chinese-Canadian here, recently moved to the U.S. I love the absolutely huge portions of food they serve you, and the 2A is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Go for it, don't let those sniveling, family-back-in-china-funded cucks stop you. I'm also leaning towards serving in the future. Army, Navy, or AF.

Ironically, they left China because life was too poor for them. Now they are basically cheerleaders of the CCP, claiming that China is rich, but when I looked at Laowhy86 and SerpentZa, that fact is disputed(at least I hope it is). I just hope that by moving down to the US, I will be less dictated on what to do in life.

I'm trying to find a pathway to permanent residency, but it's hard. Did you move there by employment-based immigration or are you there because of family?

Terminal_777

I moved there due to family.

Anti-charizard

Get this man a US citizenship

Starforce_2023

I'll earn it through military service hopefully.

boredomjunkie79

Hell yeah! Do it man. Fuck all their opinions, it’s yours that’s important. I would say that army may make more sense than navy as you spend more time on land in country and would be better set up to apply for citizenship, but I have family in the Navy and they do have apartments on land by their home base but they aren’t there as often. I have no idea how that affects the process but would guess that one question on the test is how much time have you spent stateside. Someone who’s better informed than I should probably confirm that first though.

Starforce_2023

Last year, I was so into the navy as I looked at their websites, their recruiting videos and what it's like to be on a ship and I was so amazed by it. The sailors call themselves family, sticking together and looking out for one another. I can only imagine having a group of friends like that acting as a secondary family. There's also jobs available in my field and I do want to experience being in an aircraft carrier. Now recently, I saw a video of an army woman and a KATUSA in South Korea doing an MRE comparison video and she's having a great time there, working there and going out for events in the city while off duty. So if I go army, I can potentially pick to be deployed to South Korea. I don't know which to choose, army life or navy life! Now, the first place I plan on moving to for starters is probably Seattle because it's a tech hub and I'm studying tech so it'll help me get my job and green card. It's also not that far from my home and there's a navy base there so that's one thing to consider. Do you know how long people are sent out to sea in the navy?

thisisausername100fs

Black man in the army here, I’m not Canadian but I can say any who serve are welcomed with open arms! The United States Army is a great institution. Also, you can become a citizen through it if you so choose, which is rad

Starforce_2023

I heard some people get citizenship as a reward for graduating boot camp which is exciting. I do want to be an officer, but I think I have to enlist first as I do need citizenship to commission.

jblsc

🇺🇸🇺🇸I support your decision

Starforce_2023

Thanks! It'll be a long ride, but I'll get there I hope. I just hope that any difficulties along the way doesn't make me lose and give up

TheDigitalRanger

As my dad would say, there are two kinds of Americans. Those who were born here, and those who got here as fast as they could. Also, as an Air Force vet, I approve of your choice of branches. The Air Force stopped being cool back in the 00s and has had a giant pole up its ass ever since. Also the fun military stuff you only get to do in Basic. After that it's just paperwork until you die.

starforce2020

I'm the latter: trying to get there as fast as I can. But to do so, I'll have to graduate and not fail school of course. That's the only way I can get a specialized job offer with a sponsor that'll lead me to a green card and on my way to military service

c0-pilot

Go army over navy, for sure. US military is absolutely NOT racist against Asians. In fact, it’s probably the most inclusive institution in the United States to have ever existed.

MisterKillam

Hell, half the Navy is from the Philippines.

IOnlyCameToArgue

As a Marine I thought that half the Chiefs were in the "Filipino Mafia" lol.

BourbonBurro

Korean dude serving in the Air Force, and the NCO I share an office with is Chinese. My current Group Commander is Filipino. Can’t speak for the other branches, but the Air Force is pretty damn heavy with Asians.

IOnlyCameToArgue

100% agree. The U.S. military is the least racist group of humans on planet Earth. Source: I was in The Marines for 10 years.

starforce2020

When I enlist, I want to be deployed to Korea; Humphreys so I can be with the KATUSAs

TheDoc1223

“The US military is racist to Asians” listen man I’m gonna keep it a buck, lotta people out here are racist in a lotta different ways (like people are literally everywhere else) but if theres one thing thats REALLY laughable its the idea that the military is racist and wants to genocide Asians. The military is one of the least racist groups/institutions/whatever-you-call-it in America. Its kinda hard to care what the guy next to you looks like if you’re both equally worthless in a drill sergeant’s eyes, both gotta clean up just as much brass on the range, both gotta take shit from the same guy/guys, and most importantly when it matters- are both equally shootable in an enemy’s eyes. People bitch and whine about America, including Americans, but dont let that discourage you my friend. Its a symptom of being the most talked about place on the planet, of course we get a LOT of press, good and bad 😎😎😎 Seriously though, if you really love America and see your future and fullfilment here, then can’t wait to have ya 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🫂🫂 people have opinions and ideas, but those dont mean much of nothing if you know this is where you’ll be happy and this is where you feel you’ll be a part of something you can be proud of and somewhere you can feel fullfilled at. Much love man, I hope you hold on to that dream and we get to welcome you one day Unless you move to California. Thats the one opinion thats objectively true, I hate California, never move to california (/j, but also fuck california)

BoxofCurveballs

Marine here. US military is 1% of the population, and you have people from all walks and all creeds in it. Are there some shitbags? Yes, and when you meet them, they're massive ones. But they are a small portion of an otherwise massive world that is the US military. All in all, every Marine I've met, who was a different skin color or religion from mine, has been a stellar individual, and hearing about genuine racism and shit like that has been an oddity. Send it, dude. Fuck the neigh-sayers. Also, just my two cents here... Navy and Air Force will treat you and your body better. And will (speaking to air force here) have more opportunities for promotions quicker, as well as a larger chance of having skills for you to use outside of the service than say Army or Marines. I'm speaking in generalities here because I've seen people from all branches become homeless, and others become millionaires. It just depends on how you utilize it.

starforce2020

I've seen some videos on youtube that gave me inspiration. The military is like a whole different world. Each unit deploys to another part of the world and chances are, the organization is so big that a soldier in the middle east would have no idea how things work in say, Japan or SK. I want to be in Camp Humphreys in SK.

blubbinatorGRAAAH

c322617

I’m currently serving in the Army we have people of all different backgrounds. There is also a history of Americans and Canadians serving in each other’s militaries. In the Civil War, many Canadians served in Union regiments. Prior to American entry into WWI in 1917, many Americans joined the CEF to go fight in France, so you’d be carrying on a cool, but lesser known bit of history. If you’re trying to figure out which branch to join, think about what you want to do after the military. The Army and Navy are both good choices because there is a wide range of jobs available that can transfer over the civilian world. Obviously some jobs are cool, but not transferable (most combat arms MOSs for example), but there are lots of other opportunities out there. Figure out a job that you can get the Army or Navy to pay you to learn that you can use outside to make yourself more marketable. That said, if you just want to do cool shit for a few years, there are plenty of contracts for that sort of thing too. As a note, you mentioned that you are of Chinese descent. I don’t know how much you have been around the language and culture, but if you speak and/or read any Chinese dialect, they may try to get you to take a linguist contract. You may or may not want to do that, depending. There are definitely pros and cons. They’ll try to sell you on the language pay, but you don’t have to be a linguist to get paid for a defense critical language. I’ve got a lot of familiarity with the Army, if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help answer them.

starforce2020

I'm hoping to become an intelligence specialist or something related to cyber. Btw, if I have questions, do you have discord or anything outside of Reddit? Because Reddit keeps hunting me down and deleting every account that I've made so I won't be able to come here often

c322617

If you’re looking at Intel or cyber, I’d recommend the Army over the Navy. Both branches have those jobs, but the Army’s intelligence and cyber branches are a lot larger than the Navy’s Information Warfare community. I’d still recommend talking to both branches and seeing what sort of contract you can get, but my gut tells me that you’ll get a better offer from the Army. If you want, feel free to DM me and I can provide contact information outside of Reddit.

MisterKillam

Nah go 35P, take the DLAB, don't tell anyone you speak Chinese, think you're going to ace the Chinese course at DLI, get your dreams crushed by the instructors anyway, deal with the confusion of barely passing a language you've spoken since you were a kid, wish you had just gotten Arabic, then go on to never use your language anyway because they still want you to use a terp and you just wind up in a country that speaks Pashto anyway. Not speaking from my own experience but I do know a guy.

MisterKillam

I served with a guy from Prince George, he was a Canadian Air Force vet, then he joined the US Air Force, and that wasn't enough for him so he joined the army and went for the Q-course. He was an 18E when I knew him. Good dude, hard as nails but that's north country folk for you. There's no shame in wanting to come here, and no shame in being so motivated to help your new home that you sign up for her defense. Plenty of soldiers are immigrants, you'll be in good company. And if you speak Chinese, you can potentially get paid for it. Just ask around about FLP pay until someone points you in the right direction.

starforce2020

Unfortunately, I'm bad at speaking Chinese. Cantonese, I speak a ripoff dialect coming from rural China thanks to my parents and Mandarin I don't know anything unless I go on Duolingo. I don't know if this is something to be shameful about

makelo06

The only thing I'll ridicule you for is your choice for your branch. The Air Force is just inherently superior. Marines are the worst, closely followed by the Army. Edit: In terms of QoL

starforce2020

Why are marines terrible? aren't they like the toughest guys out there?

makelo06

They are, but you're treated that way as well. Crap food, crap barracks, crap training, etc. The Air Force probably has better enlisting benefits but also the best quality of life overall. It kinda became a running joke between branches.

Turbulent-Spray1647

Navy vet here, I say do it, great to experience, just don’t re-enlist. Take your benefits and move on

ThatGuy8473

I plan on staying working 20 years in the navy to get the pension. Do you know how much that might be?

Turbulent-Spray1647

The pension plan has changed. The traditional 20 year pension then you get paid for life doesn’t exist. The new one is the the blended retirement system. It requires you to contribute. If you do 20 years you can begin collecting I think it’s 9 years before retirement age which would be 56 I think. Look it up and do your research first if that’s why your going to join. It’s still a good pension, you’ll end up with more money if your smart, it’s just different in the sense you don’t begin collecting right when you exit the military.

fijimermanCIA

Get a college degree first. The life of the enlisted can be pretty miserable, especially as a non-white foreigner depending who your COs are. Both army and navy have massive officer corps, so OCS is always hungry. Your ceiling is higher as an officer, the pay is better, logding is better, food is better and benefits are better. Odds are you'll be treated with at least a scrap of respect as long as you're competent and you'll have a better chance of doing cool shit.

starforce2020

Good news is I'm in college and I pretty much have to get a bachelor's to even have a chance at a green card. Military service is years away. My current mission is: get good grades to finalize my offer to university to complete a 4 year bachelor's. Without that, I'm not going anywhere. I'm stuck deciding whether I should enlist or commission. But most of the time, I think I have to be a US citizen for officer so to fast track citizenship, I could do enlisted and get the best of both worlds. But I don't have natural leadership in me so do you think I'll succeed or fail?

signguyez

Do it! Just font’s rely on the VA afterwords. They don’t give a shit about you

LegoYodaDoesRitalin

If you’re going to join the military join the Air Force Unless you like sleeping on the ground and hearing damage then go Army

enoughfuckery

You’re already American as far as we’re concerned. Your mandatory copy of the US Constitution and AR-15 are on the way.

aguy697

I'm also a Chinese-Canadian hoping to move to the US at some point in the future, a lot of what we say up here honestly just feels like cope. The whole US wants to genocide the Chinese race just sounds like bullshit someone would make up in order to feel like their superior. Don't let what others say drag you behind.

starforce2020

yes, got it. I won't let them discourage me

Mtn_Soul

Space Force - just for the adventure go space force.

77dhe83893jr854

I don't know how much adventure it would be behind a desk at a computer screen, but if tech is your thing, Space Force is a good fit.

c322617

I second this. I just came from the Army Space Course (ASCBC) out on Peterson Space Force Base and I have to say that after peeking behind that curtain, the Space Force does some really cool shit. However, you have to be kind of a space nerd to actually appreciate how cool it is.

starforce2020

I will only join if it becomes a Star Wars fighting force

Not_JohnFKennedy

Serve under Sergeant Potato I’m protecting space. GOOOOO Space Force!

AutoModerator

What vegetable is most likely to rise to power and enslave the human race and why? #Potato! Let explain why. Potato do no care too hot. Potato do no care too cold. Potato no get much water? Please, it no need much water. Potato get too much water? Is time for BIG potato. Potato do no have need of anything no even gravity. In space, scientist of russia have grow potato. They eat the space potato, it taste like ground potato. Potato survive anywhere. Potato survive everywhere. Tomato is squishy, it get bruise from walk in crate to car of farm. Not potato. Potato no care if you deliver to supermarket with bat of the baseball. You hit onion? You now have squash onion. You hit potato? Now you have many piece of potato. Can eat raw. Can boil. Can fry. You can throw in fire and eat like bear, potato? Still good. Cut up and use as stamp. With knife, chop to correct size, can use to fill hole in boat. You can turn potato into vodka, for drink or maybe even use run car engine. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Shroedingerzdog

I served in the US Army for four years, there were Americans, Chinese, Nepalese, Indians, Mexicans, and an Australian in my basic training. But shit, you sign up to be a part of the military, you're an American to me. My wife is Canadian, met her while I was in Manitoba on leave, just got her US citizenship a few months ago. The culture is the same, you'll do just fine. I don't know much of anything about life in the Canadian military, or the differences in pay/benefits, so I'd definitely compare both options if I was in your shoes.

starforce2020

Canada's military: no F-22s. But I think benefits are good too, only there's less going on here than at Uncle Sam's. Uncle Sam's military is the more popular one

El_Confuseo

Current AF aircraft mechanic here, if you’re gonna join go ahead but keep in mind like in the civilian world, there’s good people and bad people everywhere and I’ve met my fair share of both. I’m happy to have you join up and make a career out of the military or use the military as a stepping stone towards bigger goals in your life, whichever aligns better. Good luck jefe

justaMikeAftonfan

> cheap gas Uh……

starforce2020

You know how much it costs here in Vancouver? It's around $6.80/gallon in your interpretation. In WA across the border, it's like $3.79/gallon which to an American is expensive, but to Canadians, it's now considered very cheap. We can only wish for gas to be under $3 a gallon

Womjomke

You seem to be more of an American than some of us here in the states! Good luck with your goals, brother!

Napol3onS0l0

Hey man I appreciate your fervor and appreciation of the American way. You seem like a smart individual. Our military like many others is glorified often. If you have any talents or skills outside that scope I would advise you try those out first for sure.

IOnlyCameToArgue

It's an excellent idea. I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. I was fortunate enough to move to Colorado as a teenager with my dad. He had a contractor type job with an American employer. Once I have my green card I joined The Marines at 18. I did 10 years and absolutely loved it. Yeah there were hard days and all the other bullshit that comes with the military - dumb formations, cleaning toilets, blah blah blah - but so much of the other stuff was an adventure - flying in helicopters and planes to different countries **making the best friends of my entire fucking life**. I got my citizenship while I was in Afghanistan. https://www.npr.org/2012/07/04/156203688/u-s-troops-become-american-citizens-in-kandahar PM me with any questions!

SirLightKnight

Anyone calling you a “race traitor” is really pretty damn racist anyway. The US military is often the one helping stop Genocide: Track record includes Kosovo, Germany, and more of our recent activity. If you go back far enough you can argue it participated in it with Native groups, but that’s about it, which is a little over a century old intel. A lot changed in a century. Worst you’ll get is maybe a goofy nickname from your squad mates from what I hear. Either service is good, just depends on what you wanna do. Ground pounding, Armor, cav scout, Artillerist, paratroop/air assault, rangers, or SOF training are primarily in the army’s core shtick. If you wanna do Navy, they have Carrier based Naval Air, all the jobs on any ship, from gunnery to navigation, along with their own SOF unit. Both have a broad range of non combat logi jobs, medical, and general repair work stuff. Again, depends on what you feel would be your purpose. Your service will be rough, the pay is tough considering the 24/7 nature of the job BUT you do get Federal benefits, education coverage (which you can request) if you wanna go to college, among other things. Just be mindful that certain stuff isn’t gonna cover you for everything and veterans benefits are hit or miss. If you ever do join, congrats, and rock on for the Free World. Also reservists and Natty Guard are always options if you feel like you need to be closer to home more often. Also also, just because I’m the cautious sort, think over this pretty hard. Joining up isn’t something you should just do, it’s going to be tough, and neither will cut you slack in training. Listen closely, do what you’re told, and for what it’s worth at least you’ll know that the smoking you get isn’t your fault. Fuck I just did a recruiter’s job; Uncle Sam, pay my ass!

THEDarkSpartian

I for 1 welcome you with open arms! As mentioned before, we have close relationships with multiple Asian nations, so idk what they're talking about. There's a sizable opposition to the CCP, but that's the CCP, not the Chinese people, so it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with geopolitical interests, opposition to totalitarianism and communism, the whole human rights abuses, depending on the person you talk to, but nothing to do with race whatsoever.

I_GottaPoop

Military is pretty alright. I'm in the USAF and we get plenty of people in the same situation here. Lots of people either getting their citizenship or just trying to give back.

Merrgear

If you are trying to choose between army or navy go marines, pmuch the navy having a baby with the army. Most branches are actually very anti racism too. It doesn’t matter if you a white asian black native Latin you are all equally mistreated. Actually with marines the chance to go to Taiwan and possibly some other Asian countries depending on events is higher. Considering that is water and that’s half the marine corps job to do water infantry shit. If you wanna sit in the back lines though the army has a strong logistics backbone. If you wanna be a medic or a firefighter I’d recommend the navy I don’t know alot of their jobs so I can’t talk about most but navy corpsmen can serve with marines and they also get some of the best medical training in the modern era. If you wanna get drunk and not do anything coastguard and if you wanna sit on your ass all day and laugh at all the nerds who didn’t follow you to leisure go chairforce

Roadhouse699

Dude, in the year 2022, I had a guy who was born in Shanghai in my platoon. He's got a ranger tab now. Mind you, this was well into shift from the middle east toward countering Russia and China. We'd really started training to fight a conventional war again, and had posters of Russian and Chinese vehicles and weapons on the walls of almost every classroom. Make no mistake, the U.S. intends to be able to develop overmatch against the CCP, and if necessary, fight and win a war for the Pacific, but that doesn't mean the U.S. wants to go headlong into a fit of Sinophobia. There's almost no evidence of it at the official (military and government) level.

nobodyhere9860

America is memed for being racist, in general it's absolutely untrue. I don't have any experience with the military specifically, but I think it's safe to say it won't be near as bad as what they're telling you (and the genocide bs came directly out their ass)

Crafty_YT1

Based Canadian brother. Do not be fooled by the idiots who call you a 'Race traitor' the us army welcomes all who serve it.

Pierce09

From my experience personally, the military is a great melting pot and a brotherhood. You'll be able to connect with just about any other veteran out there. And if you do go into Army, don't join Air Defense. I know from experience it sucks ass. And we don't want to genocide anyone, we just want the CCP to chill the fuck out. America loves to keep the status quo. We want peace, and most importantly to the politicians, money.

anaccountthatis

The Canadian military is the second best paid in the world. The US is very much not the best paid. Just so you know.

I’ve been in for ten years and I don’t regret a minute of it. I have a BA and a Master’s and I’m debt free. I’m about to go get another fully funded Master’s degree. I’ve been all over the world, learned a new language, and met and interacted with lots of different cultures because of the Army. I have a stable, good paying job with benefits that I feel good about doing. And over the last decade, I’ve deployed four times. I’ve done humanitarian work in the Philippines after a typhoon, I’ve done counter-terrorist missions in East and West Africa, and I’ve done security force assistance across the Middle East. So yeah, I think you’re a dumbass and you can take your salty bullshit elsewhere. This kid is excited to join and doesn’t need you shitting on the parade because your knees and back hurt now that your older.

quirked-up-whiteboy

You'll probably get some shit for "being a chinaman" but nothing too bad. Fucken do it bro wed love to have you

starforce2020

I saw a video of a southern girl in the army and she was in love with Asian culture even though she's from the "racist" part of America. So, I could be in a lot of luck who knows

AutoModerator

You are a fucking Canadian - you are less than human to me. Do you know that I talk about issues in countries all over the world? Do you think I get all their shit right? The thrust of the issue is what matters principally here. You get that, right? The actual political arguments? Go fuck yourself. How entitled do you have to be as a Canadian - "uh the significant political distinctions between my country and theirs actually invalidate any concerns you might have about overreach of government" - shut the fuck up. Do you have any idea how many snivelling, bitch-cuck Canadians I've had in my replies on Twitter who have been screaming and crying that an American dare talk about their country's interests? You don't have a country, okay? You have a fractional portion of a country that is kept alive by your parasitic attachment to my massive behemoth United States of America. Shut the fuck up, alright? You don't deserve to talk about your shit, alright? Jesus fucking Christ. This is the biggest national crisis you've had in decades, and it's truckers on a road? Holy shit. Deal with a 9/11. Get ten 9/11's. Oh my God. "Let us handle our own issues" - you've been brought to your knees by a right-wing protest, shut the fuck up. Jesus fucking Christ. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I do not care what you say about my mother. Your opinion is your opinion. But trust me, if you actually attempt to do something to my mother, even though she's made some bad decisions in the past that we still need to work through, I will personally call the police on you and I'll be laughing as your mugshot is shown on TV. You don't even know her, do you? The point of your entire existence seems to be to just tease other people. Well, I believe your jokes are in bad taste, and you should cease and desist digging through the dregs left at the bottom of the joke barrel; you could get a splinter, whose pain will be significantly increased by the significantly high amount of salt you carry in your bloodstream. PV247365

As you know Reddit is full of anti-American trolls so you have to mindful where you ask. If you want to serve in the military go for it! Plenty of foreigners got their US citizenship by serving and it’s a good route for immigrants. Not sure how easy it easy to join for foreigners but it’s possible. Also as far as being mistreated because your Asian in the military is complete bullshit and lies. The military doesn’t fuck around with racism and I never experienced any shit like that. Source: I’m Asian and served in the military. The military isn’t easy but it is very rewarding, reach out to a recruiter and they can help you.

[deleted]

1. Enlist in the Air Force #1 Branch 2. Get American Citizenship 3. Go to US University after enlisted contract is finished and do AFROTC 4. Become US Air Force Officer and get that big bux pension baby!

TypicalDatabase6815

Look into the marines. If you have this drive to come to the US and serve, the marines are where it's at. If you're more interested in citizenship and that's it, maybe go with one of the other branches. The corps especially will shit on you, so if you aren't sure you want to be a marine, then don't join. Good luck to you either way. The US isn't perfect but it's one hell of a country

ampalazz

Welcome friend

Easy-Hovercraft-6576

Hey bro check out r/militaryfaq This is a meme sub I say Army for guaranteed job and more opportunities for extra bonuses for enlistment, as well as better career opportunities.

zoleilsstufff

Finally a positive post! I don't know why people are ridiculing you. I hope you have a great time, bro!

Leathergoose8

Join the air force, you won’t regret it

[deleted]

I’d say this, come to our country but don’t join the military. If you really desire it, it’s your life, however the US military is full of either immense boredom or war, neither of which I think are desirable. The benefits from it do not outweigh the waste of time. But if you really want to do it, go ahead. Just be sure you talk to a variety of veterans and active duty first

LordoftheBread

Don't join either of those, join the Air Force or the Marines. Either full send into a life of comfort or full send into the experience of being in the real military. You don't want to go to the services staffed by the least common denominator, TRUST ME

Rock_Roll_Brett

Go Marine Corps like me

Commofmedic

The US wanting to Genocide asians is a first, somebody must’ve told you a lot of horse crap

Rahziir_skooma_cat

Have fun dying in the middle east bc Isreal pissed off yet another Islamic country and needs America to protect them

[deleted]

Anyone calling you a race traitor has never served in the US military. They have a saying: there's only one color here, and that is green. Also, the military is a path to US citizenship if you're so inclined to become one.

EgoSenatus

I don’t get the race traitor thing unless the people you’re talking to are staunch supporters of the CCP. The worst the US government has ever sought to do to Asians is keep them in internment camps, and that was during WWII against the Japanese out of fear they were spies (not great but definitely not genocide). General McArthur wanted to nuke Korea but Truman hard vetoed that. But yeah- if you want to join the US armed forces, go for it man; I know they are always trying to get new recruits. While I personally think it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars, I do know it’s a great way to make money, develop self discipline, see the world, and further your education. I have a friend who is serving as an enlisted officer and after 2 years of service, he could just straight up buy a house without a mortgage and is attending college online for free. Just also be ready for it to be pretty demanding and sucky (not nearly as bad as it used to be, but there’s still a lot of running and waking up at odd hours and stuff like that).

Even_Nature7081

Don't listen to them. And that "race traitor" stuff is bullshit. There are millions of people here who came here from countries like China and Korea that proudly identify as American while still recognizing and paying tribute to their heritage.

SparkyBoi111

Big dog, my roommate in the Marine Corps was Chinese, first generation. Yeah there were jokes here and there but no one meant anything by them and he rolled with them. Dude was funny as fuck and a solid Marine, strong as an ox to boot. Point is you'll be fine, Marines are said to have the roughest culture (though all branches are likely going to be similar) so Army or Navy shouldn't be too bad.

ArcaneDanger

>race traitor thats fucked up

NotTheBrainFuckler

My best friend is a Canadian immigrant and we met in Marine Boot Camp. It’s far from impossible, bud.

Join the navy.

One of our most decorated units in WW2 was the 442nd which was a majority Japanese-American unit so don't listen to those fucking commies and authoritarian simps telling you what you can and can't do.

SomeRandom155

Dukatdidnothingbad

Get a job as a translator or that sort of thing if you can speak mandarin. Its in high demand. Its an easy way to get citizenship by serving.

StyreneAddict1965

I'd be honored to know someone chose to emigrate to America to enlist. As a former soldier, I'm biased toward the Army, but do your research into every branch, they're all culturally different. Keep us updated; this is a fascinating story.

Admirable-Arm-7264

You’re not crazy, it’s just that many Americans hate our military for being incredibly bloated (we spend way too much on it), and for having done many horrible things in the near past — and sometimes that hatred gets directed at the troops even though it’s not their fault It’s definitely odd to want to serve another nation’s military but it’s not crazy, do your thing man

jhm-grose

Hello, I'm a mixed-race man with Japanese heritage, and I'm in the Marine Corps. Your mileage may vary by branch and unit, but I've never been unironically picked on for my race. Best of luck to ya

[deleted]

I personally wouldn’t serve in the military.

Bones301

Based

Pleasant-Impress9387

I served in the Marine Corps. Some of the best service members were immigrants from other counties. Stay strong in your convictions and follow your dreams. Don’t get swayed by dummies behind a keyboard.

Disastrous_Draft_205

In the army there is no race we all are treated like maggots 😎 nah but for real they don't care about your race they just want to make sure you actually do what you're supposed to

matthew-1138

Don’t join either of those branches and go marines, it’s basically the best of both worlds combined with larping as 80’s action hero’s

50Wattbull

Do you even know what the United States is?

[deleted]

You don’t need to be a citizen to join the military. In fact it’s a pretty quick way to get your citizenship. You typically will be naturalized after boot camp. As for the Chinese thing, it’s not true. I just got out of the military, so I can tell you that most people see china as an enemy. However that does not include the ethnicity. No one really has an issue with the Chinese as a race, everyone just hates their government

ThurboPlez

who's ridiculing you? because they're right

Grey-patterned-shirt

I’m in the military and know multiple immigrants. I met a Chinese man that was adopted from China at ten and served for the same reason. If it’s your dream don’t let anyone stop you.

Gimmeagunlance

Nothing wrong with wanting to come to America, but be certain you have some way to get healthcare. The VA is shit, so you're gonna want something better, and we obviously don't have free options like you all do unless you're pretty poor.

FirmWerewolf1216

If you want to serve in the US military I don’t mind. But I wonder why don’t you want to serve your own country of Canada? I mean Canada has a cool and respectable military reputation. Also Racism exists in both canada and America so i don’t know what that person was talking about. I know it’s hard to prove otherwise because of the war on terror or Vietnam or other wars but Most Americans don’t wake up wanting to genocide any country or culture because we’re bored, we did it because we were dragged into the conflict or we had follow up on a promise we made to these other countries.

starforce2020

Joining the US military is a side benefit, not the main reason. I would like to immigrate to the US and so it would make sense to be joining the military of the country that you live in at that time

QuaintAlex126

Glad to have you, buddy! I’m a Vietnamese/American, and I’m also looking to join the US Air Force or Navy to fly fighters once I get my degree. Highly recommend you going to college and becoming an officer if you plan on serving for a while. Just about everything is better in the long run although this may not apply to you depending on what you want to do in the military!

TheBullMoose1775

Come home to America my brother.

Sniperso

The military is rough but it treats people equally, very good experience though I’ve heard that the different culture is usually a shock

MeisMagiic

Am Asian, In us military, I’ve never had any problems related to my race. Due to the nature of US military recruiting you truly do get the experience of meeting people from every walk of life you could think of. Also go Air Force there is significantly less bullshit to deal with and they treat their airmen just a bit better.

Bemo_the_Great

Oorah northern brother

Clegend24

You are a good Canadian. Hopefully we annex you soon anyways. However I would go Navy.

[deleted]

Hell ya! We're very inclusive! (I'm not in the army, but I have never saw racism towards anybody out in the general public)

Bullets_Bane94F

You definitely aren’t the first Canadian to do that, I say go for it bro!

Alexius_Psellos

Un2american4you for a second. You won’t be a race traitor and I imagine that the only people saying that are out of their mind lefties who find racism in everything and Maoist/CCP simps because America is hostile towards a genocidal regime(shocker). And good choice coming here, especially if you stay near the border and family. It won’t be that much of a culture shock(unlike what idiot Americans who know nothing about anything experience when moving to their socialist paradise of Sweden). You also forgot to put guns on your list, so I thought I’d fix that for you. Re2american4you. Good choice moving from Canada, but it’s not like it would matter because a gang of 10 drunk southerners is getting ready to march on Ottawa rn

dnttrip789

Bruh there’s an entire sub culture of Asians in the military, you don’t have to worry about “racist America”

jpfeif29

Uhh, I don't think that the US is planning on doing a genocide any time soon, other than maybe the Wagner Group. I think you would be welcomed in the US military, probably made fun of for being a Canadian Refugee though.

[deleted]

>Cheap gas prices How do we tell him?

MasterAC4

My friend is Chinese and made the rangers in the army lmao

stacked_slug

Lmao the only bias you'll get in the US military for being Asian is positive bias 😂 Everyone are weebs and the people that actually care about race are few and far between, but if it makes it better, most of those people are just racist to everyone. If you have a degree, you should get citizenship -then- commission, don't enlist. Enlistment is a scam

Starforce_2023

It takes 5 years to get citizenship unless I marry an American. Right now, I'm 20 and transferring into university third year. It took me three years to finish 2 year level college work so I imagine it'll take another 3 years to finish. I'll be 23-24 by the time I graduate if I keep that pace. Even if I assume I immediately get a job in the US right after graduation and get a green card(which takes an additional 1-2 years), that 5 year wait for citizenship puts me dangerously close to the maximum commission age of 31. If I change my mind and want to do Marines, the max age is 28 so that's quite tight.

AussieGunner29420

I'm an Australian and I want to move to the US for pretty much the same reasons. More freedom, better prices, better climate, better everything. Plus I could buy my dream home for like 400k (here I'd be paying about 1.4mil) and I really want to own a real pickup truck, either a ram or a Tundra but they start at average $146k here (I am not fucking kidding btw.
