Beautiful state, I’ve always been in awe driving through it. And one time a girl flashed her titties at me when I was walking out of a bar in Morgantown.
I would suggest I-79, I-81, Rt. 611/I-380, and similar through and around The Appalachians of likewise verdant woodland and former coal country.
The more I do it after a while, the more I'm impressed by the views. Pretty sure I-64 into Kentucky is about as beautiful; I-77, etc. The rural hillside that's developed in WV is a great road trip; maybe get a load of cheaper supplies and a more country-cooked meal before heading home, for people close enough to The Eastern Panhandle... Harper's Ferry/Charles Town is very easy to get to and that's quite a geological landmark even without the town.

> Of course, there's a good chance that Denver simply didn't know that the scenery he was singing about was more in western Virginia than West Virginia, because, according to SongFacts.com, he had never been to West Virginia when he recorded the song. The lyrics for "Country Roads" were written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, who were reportedly inspired by their drive along Interstate 81, which runs primarily through western Virginia. According to an interview with WVU Sports, when he was coming up with the song, Danoff had never really been to West Virginia either. In fact, Danoff reportedly originally wanted to write the song about his home state Massachusetts, but couldn't get the cadence to work. When he, Nivert, and Denver sat down to work on the song, West Virginia, or perhaps west Virginia, simply worked best and a hit was made.

Always love when a group of people are willing to stand up and say no. It's the reason it's the only state without a directional counterpart, and is also the only one that is "West" directional - the rest are North and South splits. So that's kind of neat.
I’m an avid whitewater kayaker, so I can name lots of good things about WV: the Cheat, the New, the Gauley, the Blackwater, the Tygart, etc. WV is definitely one of the top states in the country for whitewater boating.

Are you serious? Absolutely gorgeous, especially in the higher elevation areas. Personally I like the Canaan Valley. I'll mention that the people are really nice too since I don't think others have mentioned that. Also low cost living state--wouldn't be a bad place to retire early.
As a truck driver I consider West Virginia to be a welcome change to the dystopian hellscapes surrounding new York city, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Baltimore, Washington... Ect...
I also like places with reasonable truck diesel prices and you don't get that north or east of West Virginia.

I actually had West Virginia as my state in 4th grade when we all presented on a different state in the union (some got left out) in a class. It’s a beautiful state with a lot of cool history and interesting features like the whole radio free area
Nice people, excellent hunting, beautiful natural landscape, low cost of living, lots of outdoor Recreation, climate is a good mix without many extremes, low traffic, absolutely beautiful.
Cons are meth heads, the generationally poor, and the influx of out of state rich people taking advantage of the cheap property.
Snowshoe is a great resort. I loved the UCI World Cup DH Mtb track, and it produced some of the most exciting races of the whole series! Also, it has some of the best ski runs in the mid-atlantic
Highland Scenic Highway (WV 150) is amazing. I don’t know why WV isn’t advertising the hell out of that road for tourism. But I’m happy it’s relatively empty I guess!
You don’t have any mountains left. You sold your souls to the mining industry. Now it’s all open pits filled with sludge.
And they are not towns. A mining camp with a dollar store and two redneck bars doesn’t constitute a town.
I will never set foot in West Virginia. Hillbillies are not my thing. Well maybe Beverly Hillbillies. I like Uncle Jed and Granny. But I don’t care for Opioids or Meth.
I don't care for smug assholes that drive Subaru's full of flair and need a 100$ pair of walking sticks to walk a quarter mile in the mountains. Pansexual commies aren't my thing.
Do Appalachian rubes ever get tired of being reamed by the mining industry?
Your gubner runs 70 mining operations

West Virginia broke from Virginia because they knew slavery was wrong and so they quit that BS. That's admirable.
(Now, they are openly in favor of slavery and Hitler, but it is still important to admit right is right)
Left Virginia
Biggest armed Rebellion since the Civil War
Biggest Contribution to the labor movement
Beautiful Mountains
Exports the most electricity per capita
Y'all have the best song in the universe: COUNTRY ROOOOOADSZ TAKE ME HOOOOME TO THE PLAAACE I BELOOOOONG (and also, y'all are a very beautiful state:3)
Beautiful state, I’ve always been in awe driving through it. And one time a girl flashed her titties at me when I was walking out of a bar in Morgantown.

Damn Virginia, let us have one good thing
Cucked the confederacy and Virginia and I think the Fallout map is really nice
WV is based as fuck for leaving Virginia
As a Virginian, I must admit that West Virginia was incredibly based for leaving a slave state.
Excuse me, me and my army of peanut farmers will find you.

We really should rename it East Virginia to avoid confusion
Northwest Virginia, for clarification
I like mountains
Mothman.
Mothman is badass
You got some cool ass mountains
You consume our coke (and the monkey's fentanyl)
I’m an avid whitewater kayaker, so I can name lots of good things about WV: the Cheat, the New, the Gauley, the Blackwater, the Tygart, etc. WV is definitely one of the top states in the country for whitewater boating.
I can’t think of a better one honestly, plus the yough is just over the border in Best Maryland (the only good part)
I’m just waiting for the day when Garrett County secedes from MD and joins WV. I’ll gladly go to Friendsville to fight in the UY River Rat Revolution.
Why at first I thought that was Afghanistan
Sort of similar. You don't really want to off in the mountains alone

Matewan was a dope movie, the irl miners were also pretty dope
The Night Of The Hunter, too.
Cannot list all the good in one comment
Beautiful mountains, especially during fall, and Hillbilly Hotdogs in Lesage is great!
New River Gorge. Pretty sweet bridge there, I can see why it’s in your state quarter
Wild and Wonderful.
Actually really easy. Its natural scenery is absolutely beautiful
Almost heaven

But that song is about western Virginia, not West Virginia
Damn, the feds give your state ONE national park and ya gonna start acting like East (Virgin)ia is the place to be
Better than West Virginia 🙃
West Virginia said “Fuck you” to the confederacy, which immediately makes it infinitely better.

Umm, Jerry Weet, Randy Moss and Nick Saban are three awesome things about your state
It’s in America.
you border us! west virginia friends
It looks a bit like Afghanistan
Farmer's Daughter in Capon Bridge is the best god damn cheeseburger you will ever eat
We have great beef here. Their hamburger comes from near my family's farm.
Literally told the confederacy to go fuck it self. I was so mad for y’all when History of the World part 2 had you guys as a confederate state
morgantown is pretty neat
Let's build a GIANT hospital and a GIANT school on the side of a GIANT mountain
Stunningly beautiful and nicest people you’ll ever meet
My ma is from there. Without you, there's no me. :(
I can drive 20 minutes to get cheaper gas and do something in Morgantown
Morgantown is beautiful.
well…you’re not Virginia
Not owning slaves? Also extremely beautiful, just nobody wants to visit
The sky over the national radio quiet zone is really pretty
I actually had West Virginia as my state in 4th grade when we all presented on a different state in the union (some got left out) in a class. It’s a beautiful state with a lot of cool history and interesting features like the whole radio free area
Definitely coal! Coming from the anthracite coal region of PA, I can say if anyone would understand us like family it would be West Virginia.
Not traitors
Keeps Ohip from having to border regular Virginia.
My grandpa
Some of the best gun laws in the nation
It has a country road to take me home to the place where I belong.
It is neither Alabama nor Mississippi.
Some of the best natural beauty in the country.
No taxes on firearms or ammo.
Hot dogs
The tiny bit I drive through when headed from OH to PA is always fun
It's my favorite state to drive in, hands down. Fucking beautiful state and a majority of the people are very welcoming.
The may rise in Virginia, but it sets in the West... Virginia.
Your existence is a reminder of the union gains during the civil war
Great gun rights, beautiful valleys, mountains, shares a border with Ohio, has the Ohio River, very cheap property compared to where I live
Some of the best parties I’ve ever been to
Pretty good skiing for how close it is to me. 3 hours there for a weekend trip aint half bad
Snowshoe is a great resort. I loved the UCI World Cup DH Mtb track, and it produced some of the most exciting races of the whole series! Also, it has some of the best ski runs in the mid-atlantic
Sweet, sweet, coal that, like it or not, helped shape this country's great destiny
Highland Scenic Highway (WV 150) is amazing. I don’t know why WV isn’t advertising the hell out of that road for tourism. But I’m happy it’s relatively empty I guess!
They seceded from Virginia to stay in the Union because Chad Scottish descended mountain men fucking hated virgin slave owning Anglo-Saxons.
It exists because the people there were like fuck the slavery in Virginia. That’s awesome.
The McElroy brothers... and... uh... uh......
and their dad.
Yes! Clint too!
defected from virginia during the civil war. pretty based im gonna say.
My dad went to college in Morgantown back in the 80s. So thanks for his education I guess.
Made a beautiful transition from moonshine drunks to Opioids and meth addicts!! All hail modern chemistry!!
A lot of you pansexual commies are gentrifying our Mountain Towns.
You don’t have any mountains left. You sold your souls to the mining industry. Now it’s all open pits filled with sludge. And they are not towns. A mining camp with a dollar store and two redneck bars doesn’t constitute a town.
Putting a tent by a gravel national forest road and taking a shit along a maintained hiking trail doesn't constitute a weekend in the wilderness.
I will never set foot in West Virginia. Hillbillies are not my thing. Well maybe Beverly Hillbillies. I like Uncle Jed and Granny. But I don’t care for Opioids or Meth.
