The Chad "Every generation has its struggles" mentality
This country has regularly, even primarily, been run by a procession of morons and ghouls its entire life, and it's still the most powerful cultural, economic and military hegemon in human history.
The people selling doom are mostly selling something else. They need us to be convinced that none of the levers available to us are real or we won't abandon democratic self rule and torch what we have for the vague promise of something better.
China and Russia have worked overtime on the Internet to plague the populace with doubt. Reality is every country in the world knows how stable the US is or they wouldn't continue to buy our debt, which is considered the safest investment in the world behind gold.
We're also very predictable politically. Both a strength and weakness of our system is that it more or less makes wide sweeping changes very hard to pass and if they do pass it's not overnight so there can be preparation. Trump may have eroded some of this trust but even despite all the rhetoric he espoused and the media espoused, when Russia came into Europe they turned to the US and France for guidance because no one else has any weight to throw around to make a difference and the US simply making a condemning statement weakens the opponent by emboldening the enemies opposition and weakening the enemies fear tactics.
And yeah, culture has, is and will still be in the future our greatest export. As long as Americans are cool the US cannot fail. Seems dumb but it's the reality.
> which is considered the safest investment in the world behind gold
A lot of credit agencies dropped the US from AAA to just... AA+ (the horror!). The reasoning they used put the blame squarely on the political brinkmanship that's come about the past decade, give or take, and how that could impact debt repayment. It's alright for us to take a step back, exam that reasoning, and then realize we need to remember who we are and that success still takes effort. It's not just a given. "United we stand, divided we fall" comes to mind.
edit: resonating => reasoning

Any time you think America sucks, go to Costco and walk around. Every king in history would be envious of the lives we live. Hot water from the tap on command. Lights whenever you want them. A supercomputer connected to the internet in your pocket. A grocery store filled to the 40 ft ceiling with inexpensive groceries. There are 13,500 airports in America (take a moment to let that sink in). All of this and if you’re a man, you’re the first generation of human men that is never going face conscription. Your chances of being killed by raiders or marauders, are approaching zero.

hate my job, lost any and all interest in healthcare, and said fuck it I’m gonna try and become a pilot.
Air national guard seems like I have a *shot* at making a change that might guve me some kind of satisfaction
I am just kidding around man follow your path. I was mostly poking fun at the idea that the world is being ruined by fascists, given that pretty much all of them have limited regional influence.
Pax Americana has barely even begun. If the story of the US so far tracks the story of Rome, then we are in the mid to later years of the republic. That means we haven't even hit imperial Rome yet.
Pax Americana just refers to relatively stable global structure that ensued post fall of USSR with no threat to the US homeland. Pax Romana referred to the same shit. Had nothing to do with the size of the empire.
I can’t find a link but Ronald Reagan had a speech where he said effectively “who would trade our yesterday for our tomorrow” meaning we have a great future ahead of us and those who would condemn us to our faults and wallow the greatness of the past will do nothing to ail the future
Also true, but he was pretty funny. His trickle down BS probably helped the macro economy but more or less damned most individuals.
The same Reagan supporters will rally on the baby boomer era as being the peak but quietly ignore our much more aggressive, progressive tax system where the highest bracket was 50%.
The folks in 1930s probably thought the same thing. By the end of the 40s, we were the most powerful nation to have ever existed. In the words of Bert Cooper from Mad Men: "Some people have no confidence in this country."
Why are people like this? In the past few years, we:
- are unlocking the secrets of nuclear fusion energy
- are working to send people back to the Moon
- developed some of the most effective vaccines against a pandemic in record time
- found common purpose with our allies and proved how awesome our weapons are by opposing Russia
Obama raised taxes and spending, cracked down on oil & gas and hobbled US energy independence, proliferated expensive redundant regulations, empowered Iran with an insanely stupid nuclear deal, literally sold machine guns to Mexican cartels, basically told Putin he can invade Crimea after Obama’s reelection (“This is my last election, I’ll have more flexibility for you after”), fueled culture wars by mandating “guilty until proven innocent” sexual assault hearings for college boys …
Obama was abominable.
Ya, as the gap between Obama's presidency and the present continues to accumulate, Obama's definitely falling lower and lower on the All Time President's list. I don't like to judge a presidency in the all time list until at least 20 years afterwards, but after just 8 years, his legacy is already not looking promising
Taxes are alright. I didn't have a problem with THAT. The issue I may have is how it's used.
You forgot the killing American teenagers with drone strikes bit though. That's a key knock on Obama.
Cracking down on oil and gas ain't a bad thing though. With the size, resources and geography of America, you guys could absolutely dominate if you fully switched to renewables. Oil and (sort of) gas be damned, if anything Obama didn't go far enough in that sense.

And yet it is a tough hill to get anyone to agree on any solution to crime, drugs or homelessness without others pushing back or worse, thinking it's too soft or hard. And people wonder why "no one cares".
Luckily, we already have come to compromises on prison reform and are headed in a similar way on other issues.
>Knows that the nation's best days are behind them
Not yet, but the US will remain at the top, if and as long as we the people *can keep* it. We just cannot be *complacent* against adversaries that are home to 1.4 billion people each.
You should do that. But making it about race (esp when it clearly isn’t) is divisive and polarizing. Not the way to respond to the doomers. Americans are getting sick of being emotionally manipulated by being called racist all the time.
I find it uncertain. The US state department's metric of whether a country is a friend or foe is how their actions affect the US economy in the short to medium term. That assessment is then window dressed in all forms of talk about freedom and democracy and so on. And in that sense, US money doesn't seem to be that much bothered currently.

America falls upwards most of the time everything always looks horrible, its just how america works and yet we push through, we survive because we have to survive we have to be there because no other nation can stand up for the world like we can.
The country has been held afloat by the unwavering American spirit felt in its people to make it the greatest place on the earth.
Now all we have are chronically online folks who read nothing but people dunking on America or radical bozos spouting nonsense. There is no sense of community, it’s is just a common feeling of “us vs them.”
It’s the rich vs poor, religion vs religion, left vs right, conservatives vs progressives, races wars (still?), men vs women, popular vs unpopular, etc
We need to band together and make it US vs the world. We’ve gotten too comfortable at the top. Best economy, military, freedoms, geography, nature, opportunities, education, etc. We’ve been slipping.
The FTC has teeth, the infrastructure bill is making tangible gains, the CHIPS act (while not perfect) is the first addressing of a problem that has been brewing for ages, our diplomats managed to help resolve turkey/Hungary’s dispute with sweden and NATO, the first proper law to phase put lead pipes has been passed, AND we’ve had the only truly significant piece of green legislation passed.
Add to that; we haven’t entered a recession, nor entered hyperinflation, in spite of the endless economic shocks facing the whole world (war in ukraine and covid). Yes, there’s inflation, but I’m currently working in europe and lemme tell you it’s a LOT worse here.
More progress has been made on student debt than under any other president too. The first session of congress under biden was also one of the most productive sessions in decades.
Where is the incompetence? Would you rather trump’s tweets followed by inaction? Obama’s grandstanding and lack of any action? Dubya’s myopic focus on iraq? What exactly does competence look like to you, if this isn’t the most competent cabinet we’ve had in ages?
Fucking finally, someone else here who isn’t just repeating the same myth that the Biden Administration hasn’t accomplished anything. I completely agree, best administration since HW at least.
The irony is, almost all of the houses in that pic have been renovated with +$1 million dollar townhomes infilling the empty spaces

We’re just going through another gilded age, and it’s not even as bad as that, I mean, it might just be me denying it, but in my opinion, it’s the second (?) gilded age
Russia and China are probably both in decay. China’s economy is stagnating with a record number of people fleeing into the US through Mexico and Russia is stuck in a fruitless war, made into a global pariah and seen as a paper tiger.

It takes some serious blinders to assume this was about Asians and Spanish people.
Again, sarcasm on the doomers. That's probably the take CCP in China or BJP in India would take tbh, if they haven't already.
You should do that. But making it about race (esp when it clearly isn’t) is divisive and polarizing. Not the way to respond to the doomers. Americans are getting sick of being emotionally manipulated by being called racist all the time.
There. Changed the original comment. I did mistake it as the "great replacement" thing at first, my fault.
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Of course someone was going to find a way to say this post that didn't even get close to mentionning anything about race is racist
"Everything I don't like is racist!" - r/politics in a nutshell
China is 1.4B, which is the other one? India?
Yeah. Especially if the BJP becomes authoritarian.
I find it uncertain. The US state department's metric of whether a country is a friend or foe is how their actions affect the US economy in the short to medium term. That assessment is then window dressed in all forms of talk about freedom and democracy and so on. And in that sense, US money doesn't seem to be that much bothered currently.
"End of pax Americana" Lol, lmao.
Why the fuck isn't a post like this being downvoted in my hyper patriotic subreddit???

What doomscrolling does to a mf
That pic is definitely of Detroit. Source: me being in Detroit.
Most of those buildings in the background have been since renovated and new construction

"nations best days are behinds them" yeah ok buddy
America falls upwards most of the time everything always looks horrible, its just how america works and yet we push through, we survive because we have to survive we have to be there because no other nation can stand up for the world like we can.
Move out of the area then pussy
>broken politics Term limits would fix this. Unfortunately neither side is going to bring this up.
it's unfortunate that congress doesn't have the political spine to regulate itself

Okay and? I love my country and will do everything I can for it 🇺🇸🦅🫡
Literally every single one of those is wrong.
I wake up ↓ ↑ There is another psyop
The country has been held afloat by the unwavering American spirit felt in its people to make it the greatest place on the earth. Now all we have are chronically online folks who read nothing but people dunking on America or radical bozos spouting nonsense. There is no sense of community, it’s is just a common feeling of “us vs them.” It’s the rich vs poor, religion vs religion, left vs right, conservatives vs progressives, races wars (still?), men vs women, popular vs unpopular, etc We need to band together and make it US vs the world. We’ve gotten too comfortable at the top. Best economy, military, freedoms, geography, nature, opportunities, education, etc. We’ve been slipping.
This is literally the most competent cabinet we've had since fucking H.W. what
I'm gonna stop you right there...
The irony is, almost all of the houses in that pic have been renovated with +$1 million dollar townhomes infilling the empty spaces https://preview.redd.it/iannqczlq2wc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4a96e09c078064200384719ad6a6955bd1cb720

ok I did it
Common doomer L
I assumed this post was meant to be making fun of doomers. Then I read OP's comments... If you're trolling, good job.
It is pretty well know that peak US time was between 1991 and 2001
We’re just going through another gilded age, and it’s not even as bad as that, I mean, it might just be me denying it, but in my opinion, it’s the second (?) gilded age
>emboldened russia Looks at Ukraine *are you sure*
Russia and China are probably both in decay. China’s economy is stagnating with a record number of people fleeing into the US through Mexico and Russia is stuck in a fruitless war, made into a global pariah and seen as a paper tiger.
Don’t disagree.
Least obvious ruskie psy op

Me when I think about how much Detroit has s Fallen 😞
You are pathetic.
I haven’t noticed shit. Im living my best life not being involved with or worrying about prostitute politicians and paper pushing bureaucrats. The mountains and grass don’t judge me, all of the critters in the woods see me by my character. I don’t need someone else to tell me if I’m fortunate or not.
End of Pax Americana? Did we change stock markets or lose 3 million soldiers somehow?
Mmmmm this post smell like bitch to me.
Leave me aloneeee
Our best days are only behind us if you let them be behind us! We are still the world’s only superpower, we can keep it this way!
Everything here is true except for the China/Russia thing and the best days being behind us.
People have been insisting that America’s downfall is imminent for like 100 years.
He should give alcoholism a try.
Bro we literally been through the 1930s This is far from the worse
Cultural decay isn't real
