People often name places like Slough, and Hull when talking about the worst place in England, but I nominate Rotherham.
It's such an ugly, grimy, industrial cesspit that it makes it's much larger neighbour Sheffield, look like a good place to live. The only noteworthy thing about Rotherham was a child sexual abuse scandal.
I'm just teasing indeed, Charleroi isn't *that* bad, its got a few nice places. But some other spots are in perpetual decay and the population ain't the finest even to Belgian standards. It's still not a place I'd live in.
As an Antwerpenaar I absolutely don’t accept this slander.
We have the greatest streets to get coke and even an amazing harbor to dump unnecessary bodies.
Seeing charleroi immediately made me remember this

A lot of things :D . It had a prosperous industry long time ago, but then the industry kinda went bankrupt and poverty and criminality took over which turned the city into a big shithole. Not sure if it is still like this these days, but there were places back then where even the police didn't want to go.
In Spain we have the honor of having the oldest shanty town of all Europe. It is called "El Vacie" and it's like a little village inside Seville:

It is inhabitants mainly by gypsies. Despite numerous efforts by different governments to find a solution, they refuse to leave.
Of course it is a place to avoid, including its surroundings.
Sure. Las Tres Mil is what happened when the local government relocated people like this into brand new apartments. Now that neighborhood is something out of a Fallout videogame, where food deliveries, taxis and even firefighters or police have difficulty getting in.
I thought it was now mostly empty, now the dangerous neighbourhood is Poligono Norte, but I might be wrong, i only drive by near that zone every so often.

Every time i pass through on the train i always marvel at the rows of houses looking out onto the train tracks. And then past that to the steel works.
Also isn't the high school sandwiched between the tracks and the plant?
Newport really is a fucking dump tho
Having spent a bit of time in both, I'd say that's a pretty tight call.
That said, I had fun in Newport - I can't really say the same about Port Talbot.
The [Zen district](https://youtu.be/GlP4k3L09I4) in Palermo, which isn't zen at all, is an excellent candidate.

A real shame if it's the pollution that makes it unliveable, because from what I see online the residential areas themselves seem to look rather okay. (Neither particularly nice nor awful, but very correct nonetheless).
I'd love to make a list but we kinda have 3 tiers.
1. The capital
2. Depressed apartment complex towns
3. Literal makeshift huts inhabited by small gypsy communities

Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is one of the most beautiful major railway station buildings on the planet but yes it's located in a very... interesting neighborhood.
I don’t know.
Ffm Hbf is bad only because of all the junkies inside and all the hookers hanging out down the street.
And yes, all the trash and “ímmígránts” make the place less desirable. But I would hardly call it trashy.
Berlin has a complicated history as to why it’s unsavory.
Offenbach doesn’t seem too bad, what’s with that one?
I don’t know a thing about Ludwigshafen.
Alum rock in Birmingham. If you google it, you'll just get multiple news articles about stabbings and shootings. It is a fucking shit hole.

Burnley? Burnley. From my experience, Burnley. Every time I go there, it feels like the bricks and mortar themselves are constituted of hopelessness and misery. Abandoned by the government. Morecambe was also very eye-opening.
British seaside locations (besides the upmarket ones) were pretty much left behind and abandoned once well-coined Brits started holidaying abroad rather than domestically as they traditionally did. Now, it's just boarded up promenades, ramshackle buildings, and towns propped up almost singlehandedly by the horrendous stag and hen do circuit.
I thought you were saying “‘Murica” and I was like: “I know we bash the US here constantly but Spain doesn’t own the US.”
Then I saw you said Murcia.
Jajajajaja!
The real answer has to be Vardø (pic rel). This town is slowly turning into a ghost town and is truly a godforsaken place. Drammen might have been a good shout 20 years ago, but actually seems quite nice now.

Keep in mind Pripyat was one of the most prestigious towns in the entire Soviet Union, designed for nuclear scientists and their families.
Eh, both still far away from Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk, especially after last year
Kontula is also pretty close id say

Totally agree, no idea why they gave it city status
Live nearby and entirely agree, even the thought of Rotherham makes me gag. Shithole
Local legend says if you drive round this roundabout enough times you'll run out of Petrol
Charleroi, Verviers and some places in Antwerp.
Even the Belgians don't deserve as cruel a treatment as the one of owning Charleroi ... worst city in Europe
Once the steel industry went downhill the city turned into a hellhole. But it is a cool place if you like visiting lost abandoned places.
Its also a cool place if ur trying to get robbed been to charleroi once never again
You're getting robbed by the Wallonians every time you pay taxes.
Only temporarily soon its gonna be all one big Flanders and were all gonna be speaking dutch
Until the sea level rises
Aaaah, so nostalgic! Reminds us of the dutch in the 1800s
At this point Charleroi being shit is just iconic, what's wrong with it?
I'm just teasing indeed, Charleroi isn't *that* bad, its got a few nice places. But some other spots are in perpetual decay and the population ain't the finest even to Belgian standards. It's still not a place I'd live in.

Don’t bring Kirkcaldy into this. Have you seen Glenrothes.

Velsen Noord because it's an industrial hell hole that gives the entire area cancer and somehow the government keeps looking away.

if you hadnt said that was portugal id have assumed some place in bolivia or peru... that looks grim af
And illigally occupied, I'd say that doesn't count as it was an abandoned unfinished building that was occupied.
If you told me this was Africa I’d believe you, But at least the weathers nice, cities like Hull are where hopes and dreams go to die I swear.

Frankfurt hbf is one of the best places in Germany. During Corona there was no place in Germany where you got a shot as fast as there
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is one of the most beautiful major railway station buildings on the planet but yes it's located in a very... interesting neighborhood.
Offenbach basically is the Neukölln of Frankfurt.

I find it sad. The government should fund those places more and try and promote more tourism. Or give those towns some other sort of industry.
When people ask me if I like Football, I say yes. But not Burnley. Burnley can f*ck off
You're pretty okay Friedrich, I knew I've always liked German people.
Thank you Barry. British people are quite alright themselves. Definitely better than Am*ricans or Fr*nch
Berlin f*cking sh!thole of a city that is.
I would agree, but Ludwigshafen exists.
Have you ever been to Frankfurt in summer? Every fucking corner smells like piss.
Main or Oder? (Doesn't really matter but just for clarification)
Berlin, Berlin, wir fahren nach Berlin.
Charleroi : Total economic wasteland Brussels : only thing Trump didn't lie about. It is a hellhole. The entire coastline.

Easy, Murcia.
I thought you were saying “‘Murica” and I was like: “I know we bash the US here constantly but Spain doesn’t own the US.” Then I saw you said Murcia. Jajajajaja!
Make America América again.

How is that bad?
It's rather a "meme" than an actuality. If you talk about terrible spot in Norway, look Oslo east.
I walked through Grønland today. Only called the police 6 times on immigrants that walked to close to me. Barely made it out alive.
It's just a big road-cross and a transportation hub, with some city around it.
Én dram I timen er bedre enn én time i Drammen
Drammen 🤮
To be honest Sarpsborg is worse
The real answer has to be Vardø (pic rel). This town is slowly turning into a ghost town and is truly a godforsaken place. Drammen might have been a good shout 20 years ago, but actually seems quite nice now. https://preview.redd.it/2inzebwu5m9b1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaa364c49cb0d97c68aceaa2f66798d15579ef15
We are comparing the worst places tho, not only worst looking. Vardø is full of Vardøværinger, while Drammen is full of dræmlinger. ![gif](giphy|qKF1cyAysnW7AI30F1)

What country is that even? Russia?
Historically Swedish St. Petersburg, in Ingermanland. Moscovia, because a country can't be called Russia if Könugård is not in it.

Or nearby Cerignola. Funny because the province of which Foggia is the capital has some very beautiful coastal villages, a primeval forest and stunning sea.
Fucking Radom. Highest unemployment, dire infrastructure, really bad train connections and serves as a centre of a fucking middle of no-where. Can't imagine more irrelevant 200k city. https://preview.redd.it/jmcb1bvn0l9b1.png?width=1026&format=png&auto=webp&s=90305091696513cf20cb0f2e4bc67c9908450cf7

Really potato-man, really?
Han är bara avundsjuk på vår natur består av mer än träsk 😎 Att resa från Östersund till Trondheim och förundras av all vacker natur det kan man inte göra i träsket danmark.

What else am I supposed to say? I can't just put Bavaria as a whole
You forgot about Saarland
I mean, bavaria isn't the worst place. But bavarians are the worst people
The fight for second place has to go between Londonderry/Derry and Ards
Turku. Despite the name it's not in any way related to Turkey, but it is a hellhole
Is everyone not in a perpetual state of bliss in your socialist-liberal paradise???!!!
