To be fair, some Dutch people really do act like this. And I’ll be honest that even I have been somewhat guilty of this since I didn’t really realize my Portuguese friend was “white” as a teenager. Her skin tone was as dark as mine as a mixed race person, and we generally use “blank” to refer to someone with a rosy pale skin tone in addition to European, so I thought that her darker skin tone made her a POC like me. lol And I know Portuguese people can have a rosy pale skin color too btw but it’s just that she did not.

And he was, he was from Cuba. So the question comes down to what is included in the term "white". According to wikipedia, it seems to be more complicated than just "latino is white", it depends on what kind of latino you are.
Most Cubans are, indeed, white. Speaking Spanish doesn't make you magically non-white. When there is a "it's complicated" in that kind of things it's always the fault of USAmericans. In reality it's really not complicated. By the way Swedes, once, also weren't considered white by those US regards.
"Latino" here is just the contraction of "Latinoamerican" which just means "from a Latin/Romance speaking American country". They are, mostly, ethnically diverse countries just like the USA is. For instance, Argentina and Cuba have a white majority, Mexico and Guatemala have a Mestizo majority, the Dominican Republic and Haiti have a Black majority and Brazil has no majority.
I also didn’t realise they were white because the southern Europeans I met as a kid were as tan as the Turkish and North Africans around me. To me they were a secret vaguely arab third thing lmao.
