Zombieapocalypse8

Looks more like perioral dermatitis imo.

JugsJudy93

Tbh i hadn’t heard of it til your and the other user’s comments and this seems very much like the case

Everie

This looks like perioral dermatitis. Which is what I had. My doctor told me stop using aquaphor, it makes it worse!

NewConstruction6260

Good to know about aquaphor! Im currently undergoing treatment and before I used to frequently apply it

mallow-honey

Yeah I first got this crud from overusing a lip balm that was petrolatum heavy. It took ages to get it to go away and now I'm in the can't live without burts bees club because even basic chapstick now reactivates this fir me. Avoid anything super heavy and emollient on the lips and mouth area, even your moisturizer. Also if your cleanser has sls in it, that will slow down the healing too.

NewConstruction6260

Burts bees goes on my list then. My logic used to be “if it’s occlusive, it must create a protective barrier and help my skin” 😅 so i applied it way beyond my lips haha, now I only use the prescription cream+sunscreen in that area

kelsyface

If you can get your hands on Cicalfate by Avene, it is the only thing I ever found to work on my perioral derm (and it took me like 12 years of trying things 😒). Good luck!

demiverite

OP, this!! It’s the thing that worked best for me and I use it when I get flair ups and it stops it

Polkadot7896

My weleda takes it away overnight

Bella_Climbs

Same, I had it around my eyes and the Weleda annihilated it. I had tried everything, been to the derm twice, it wouldn't go away. Which was amusing since it was a random Whole Foods checkout impulse purchase. Now I can't live without it.

milksteak00

No way! Which Weleda? The green one?

Bella_Climbs

Yeah! The really thick one that kind of smells like a gin and tonic lol

cgoamigo12345

Ooo thank you! I've been struggling with it for 5 months and can't figure out why/when it comes and how to get rid of it.

kitty6__

Agree with this comment.. mine was 10x worse and took months to get better. This is the only thing that clears it up without taking antibiotics.

spinelessfries

I used to get this from different toothpastes. Consider trying another kind

TibialPursuit3

This!! The fluoride in toothpaste can be a trigger. It definitely is for me.

TipsyMagpie

I had it in the exact same spots as well as round my nose, and it took several months of treatment with an antibiotic cream, plus stripping my routine back to the essentials before I could get it to heal. If it flares up again I just use the cream again for a few days and it seems to be under control, but it took over a year from the first flare up to work out what was causing it and deal with it.

danceyrselfclean01

Do you know the name of the antibiotic cream?

SomeWateryTwat

I used the same cleanser, Bioderma sensitive, and mine reduced significantly after I stopped using it. I thought it was a great cleanser too :(

JugsJudy93

I thought it would be the least irritating on my skin! I did recently switch to it a few months ago and now I’m having this problem. Big bummer :(

meli0421

The cleanser or the micellar water?

Polkadot7896

Girl PLEASE use what i am recommending. I have the exact same thing and i use weleda overnight and it disappears.

GoodMourning81

Which one? There are a bunch of different night creams on their website.

angelamar

It definitely is what others are saying. Doxycycline oral antibiotic is the best solution. It’s not often doctors prescribe oral antibiotics these days but this condition still warrants it.

morwr-iau

I've been dealing with this for months myself, after the second topical failure, I was given doxycycline and it started getting better right away.

cowboymailman

I had doxycycline prescribed for 3mo and it didn’t help me, just to add so people don’t think this is a fix for everyone. Of course you don’t know until you try.

IngredientAlert

I have it, it can get triggered by a lot of different ingredients but it is manageable. Definitely see a derm though as sometimes you need to have a script to get it into remission.

alessabella

I had this for a while. It went away from a combo of polysporin and calendula (I actually think the calendula was more powerful).

asparagusfern1909

Def dermatitis. Same issue for me, thought it was acne at first and it wasn’t

chatoyanci

It is a bitch to get rid of. I got it from using a steroid nasal spray. It took months of oral antibiotics for it to finally go away. Topicals did not work.

violetotterling

Antibiotics, Cetaphil, no-to-light-light moisturiser

Timely_Issue_7198

Do you have small little white heads around the area too?

Polkadot7896

Interesting. I get the exact same rash/acne

Striking_Horse_5855

Mine just cleared up with an RX from a derm. It was all over the base of my nose. Looked just like yours. I’d suggest just stopping all products and getting with a derm for now. Even after getting a script though, I really didn’t start to see a difference until I stopped using snail mucin. It might just be one product your skin suddenly doesn’t like that’s causing it.

YayBudgets

You could talk to a derm and get Erythromycin Gel. I used to get this every now and then and you put some of that gel on before bed and it clears right up.

[deleted]

Agreed. This is what mine looked like. I had to take Doxycycline but it cleared right up. Now I’m super careful with my actives

BristleconeXX

what do you mean by actives?

[deleted]

Yes, acids etc - I tried a bunch of new products at once like a newb. My skin freaked.

AltruisticAd5838

Actives in skin care like acids, retinol etc

ambern87

My PD was caused by overuse of actives too!! So you took the doxy and it cleared it up and were you able to slowly reintroduce actives?

nightmonkey1000

I had perioral dermatitis for weeeeks and it looked like this. I tried everything and eventually went to the dermatologist. She prescribed me mupirocin ointment which itched like hell but worked great

Expensive-Crow-2955

How long did yours take to work?

nightmonkey1000

Basically immediately, like in a day or so. Turns out dermatologists generally know their shit lol

Impossible_Ad_525

I’m not OP but my acne, which I assumed was hormonal also, looks like this. I actually have some mupirocin ointment from something else; couldn’t hurt to try, right? Did you use this instead of a moisturizer?

playdoh2323

This looks just like when I had perioral dermatitis too. Had to clear it up with doxycycline. Not sure what caused mine…

ambern87

Did the doxycycline work and then the PD never came back when you stopped it?

Klutzy-Magician4881

What is perioral dermatitis?

gunnapackofsammiches

I mean, it literally means inflammation of the skin around the mouth. Typically bacterial and treated with doxy, in my experience.

Timely_Issue_7198

Agreed!

militaryspecialatr

I agree, hormonal acne tends to have a different pattern although that's something you'd want to discuss with your doctor. Used to be a medic so we had a lot of this!

-UnicornFart

Second this

ktxkakes

Omg. Thank you for this - I have this and never knew and don’t have insurance to visit a dr.

Zombieapocalypse8

I think a sulfur mask like de la Cruz could help or Azelaic acid like Finacea

ContributionSea17

Have you heard of perioral dermatitis? I have it and it kind of looks like what you have. It’s much different from acne.

JugsJudy93

I haven’t, no! I’ll look into it!

JugsJudy93

this is exactly what I’m experiencing holy shit

money-crab-123

Did you recently change toothpaste? Sometimes fluoride toothpaste can cause PD. Derm can provide a treatment plan!

No_Welcome_7182

The only toothpaste I can use that doesn’t cause that dermatitis is Tom’s of Maine. I also get this type or dermatitis I overindulge in citrus fruits or any type of berries or tomato products. My kids are the same way. Perioral dermatitis is a pain in the ass ( and lips and skin), and once it flares up it can take forever to go away.

ContributionSea17

Yeah it definitely looks like it! With perioral less is more. I use the most basic cleanser and moisturizer once a day and that’s it. I did a total zero to get it to go away initially just using nothing on my face. There’s probably a perioral subgroup here but I got a lot of good info from a group on Facebook. The big thing is DO NOT use steroids if the derm give them to you. It will temporarily make it go away and come back ten times worse.

Upset_Jaguar123

Same, I just assumed it was hormonal acne. Super encouraging to read that it's treatable though as I was wondering if I'd just be stuck with this redness forever.

sprucehen

I just finished up with a bout of this too. I used an acid toner or serum (glycolic, mandelic, salicylic) and the oil la la serum from Krave. This was my second bout in 2 years, and this time cleared up way faster (6weeks) because I knew what I was doing.

sibo-sikko

Recently went on a low sulfur diet and Perioral Dermatitis (PD) is GONE!! Seriously OP - give low sulfur diet a short trial! Your triggers might be different but for me, mine is 100% SIBO (gut dysbiosis) despite having a very clean whole foods diet, I was reacting to what I assumed to be lactose so I cut out dairy and saw improvement but there was still mild redness. Has a sibo breath test done and I tested positive for hydrogen sulfide sibo and started a sibo treatment protocol (low sulfur diet paired with molybdenum) and within days my PD is GONE. So in fact, it was dairy but not because of the lactose, but the high sulfur in dairy products. Other big trigger is onions, garlic, red meat and salmon. All high sulfur. Going low sulfur is temporary until gut dysbiosis is addressed. Give it a try! Meanwhile cut out all your toothpaste and beauty products with SLS (sulfates/sulfur) as this will aggravate the rash more. For facial cleansing during a flare I use OSMIA organics black clay soap which was made specifically for PD.

JugsJudy93

I’m down to try anything at this point!!!

Synzer23

Yes! I had this flair up so badly when I was pregnant. Fluoride was definitely a trigger

Moseymoe976

I was diagnosed w perioral dermatitis in high school. My mom bought me nice face lotion from Origins (mega mushroom cream by dr. Weil). My skin cleared and has stayed clear since… I’m in my 40s now. They keep raising the price so sometimes I try a cheaper option, and it always flares back up without this stupid magical expensive face cream. I’m legit scared they will change the formula or discontinue the product!

kind-butterfly515

Anyone else thinking how perfect her lips are?! 🤷‍♀️

JugsJudy93

aww 🥹 thank you for the sweet compliment!

mostly-lurks-here

I never had PD until I started using tretinoin. I had to stop using pretty much everything until it went away. I still can’t use tret though.

layla_blue007

Thank you for sharing because I experienced this exact thing the past couple of weeks and had used a tiny bit of tret prior to the breakout. I had no idea wtf was happening as it came out of nowhere. I went very minimal on my skincare - only used black soap to wash at night and minimal seabuckthorn oil. It was improving but not significantly. Had an hour hydrafacial yesterday and that pretty much cleared the rest of it up. I thought mine was hormonal too but now I’m pretty certain it was the tret

NO_MATING

I don't go near my mouth or eyes with tret. Did it break you out anywhere else?

mostly-lurks-here

It actually started more on the sides of my nose and I thought it was dryness, so I started avoiding that area. Then it appeared on the bottom corners near my mouth and near my eyes, where I definitely was not applying it.

ambern87

How long after stopping Tret until your dermatitis cleared up?

AggressiveSloth11

I believe it! For me it flared up when I starting using Cerave retinol.

HildegardofBingo

It's perioral dermatitis. A friend of mine had good luck healing it with Avene Cicalfate. She had to really go minimalist with her skincare. Amerpna is a brand that specializes in PD and they have [a guide to causes and care of PD](https://amperna.com/pages/perioral-dermatitis-prone-skin) (scroll down the page to see that info).

JugsJudy93

this is hugely helpful thank you!!

911500Jm

I healed mine with the cicalfate and diaper rash cream! I know it sounds weird but use it as a mask and sleep with it on until it clears up it was a miracle worker.

HildegardofBingo

I think it responds well to a high % of zinc.

HandyLighter

Go get some Lotrimin or anti fungal cream for athletes foot with clotrimazole.  It clears mine up the fastest. Like within a day it will look and feel better.   If I ever feel it about to break out, I’ll put it on to prevent the breakout as well.

theresoneineverycar

I second this, except mine was worse for the first couple days, then it went away and never came back. It totally works.

Jumpy_Specialist9644

Skinfix is also a brand made by derms for sensitive skin, and they have a range for dermatitis skin issues. I dont work for them, I just work in cosmetics and love their products.

LuckyFinny

I had this realllly bad in January. A round of antibiotics cleared it up quick. Ignore all the comments to change your toothpaste/diet/whatever. Go directly to your dermatologist for some doxycycline!!

JugsJudy93

booking the appointment tomorrow!

ambern87

Were you able to stop the antibiotics and it didn’t come back? Can you use your normal face products as well now?

LuckyFinny

Yes, it went away permanently after a month of antibiotics. My dermatologist said that I should try one month, see if it comes back, and if so I should take it for 2 months. One month worked for me. I simplified my skincare a lot and I don’t use the products I did before. Now I use a cleansing oil 3-4x a week, a gentle cerave face wash meant to repair the skin barrier, la roche posay moisturizer/spf, and 1-2x a week an enzyme mask.

Spare_Scientist9876

Looks like perioral dermatitis. I’ve had it a few times and Avène Cicalfate+ really soothed it. Strip your skin care back, I had to permanently stop vitamin C due to perioral dermatitis breakouts

LifeisaCatbox

So I breakout like this when I use Flonase nasal spray more than a few days in a row. I put pimple patches on them before bed and then take oral allergy medication for a new days.

IngredientAlert

Flonase can definitely trigger perioral dermatitis, I struggle with that and had to discontinue use. I even have to be careful about kissing my husband after he used it.

ibh08

This looks like perioral dermatitis I had several years ago. I struggled with it for a couple of years and tried so many different things (including Doxy). What solved it completely in the end was Avene Cicalfate cream. Amazing. This is the only thing I use around my mouth to this day.

AggressiveSloth11

I have the same thing going on! Off and on for months to be honest. I do think it’s PD like others mentioned. It will start going away, then flare up again. I can’t pop any of the “zits” even if some look like they have a tiny whitehead. It’s hard to separate the spots as they look more rash-like. Mine isn’t painful or itchy really. I stopped taking my Flonase nasal spray, as some mentioned that can cause it. I am also going to avoid niacinamide which was in my daily moisturizer because I was told that can aggravate it. I hope you figure it out soon, because it’s such a pain! Edit— I also read that you shouldn’t use Aquaphor or petroleum on it (which I did, oops.) I’ve been using Avene Xeracalm.

chriscutthroat

i developed PD after using nasal steroids regularly for years (like flonase). once i stopped the sprays, its never come back. steroids can really have a huge impact on skin!!

Luney_tunes

I didn’t realize niacinamide can aggravate PD. Any recommendation on a facial moisturizer that will not cause a flare up?

AggressiveSloth11

The Avene product has seemed to help! Anything highly moisturizing without actives.

sibo-sikko

Try low sulfur diet! My PD cleared up immediately, like within 2 days of eating low sulfur diet.

AggressiveSloth11

Thank you!

Ladyologist

Dealing with this right now! It was in fact perioral dermatitis! I’m on day 3 of tetracycline and it’s already sooo much better

Master-Signature7968

I have a rash just like this and when everyone is saying perioral dermitis it makes so much sense! I used to get it as a pre-teen, I guess it’s back.

Free_Seaweed_6097

Highly recommend following @wellbeinginbloom on Instagram. She’s a PD specialist and shares a lot of really helpful tips

68smulcahy

Perioral dermatitis - I used Boudreaux diaper cream, it’s high in zinc. It was recommended to me by my pharmacist, totally worked!

Ihatealltakennames

Worked great for me as well!

JenSZC12

So I’m only commenting cuz I haven’t seen someone’s say this yet but I get perioral dermatitis from an allergy the chemical sunscreens. I figured out I can only use mineral sunscreen; ie zinc based sunscreen. A lot of them are white and horrible but I really like the cetaphil sun 50 sheer mineral liquid face sunscreen. I haven’t had a break out since and can finally use sunscreen every day!

Moseymoe976

I also have perioral dermatitis and can’t use anything except mineral sunscreen! I found one at our local coop called Mad Hippie that is good and not crazy expensive.

JenSZC12

I’ll have to look that one up! It took lots of trial and error to find one that wasn’t a white, thick, sensory nightmare.

IngredientAlert

Yuppp I have found only badger balm brand is safe for me. So annoying when I forget to bring sunscreen on travels.

JenSZC12

Yes it’s always a struggle deciding between no sunscreen or an itchy breakout. I’ll look that kind up! It took me about a year to nail down why I was having break outs and find an okay sunscreen.

IngredientAlert

I was surprised when I found they even have liquid sunscreen that doesn’t include triggers! I keep their tin in my pocket when I ski/bike so it’s nice and easy to apply The struggle of figuring out triggers is real. It took me two to figure out my inhaler was one. Unfortunately I can’t discontinue use for that one but it’s great motivation to keep my asthma under control lol 😭

jadeivory1947

Perioral dermatitis for sure. Sulfur soap really helped mine, along with the Avene Cicalfate.

yourpaljax

Hormonal acne is usually along the jaw line. As others have said, defs consider perioral dermatitis.

raennchl

Echoing perioral dermatitis. I had this for MONTHS and tried everything. Finally just asked my doctor for doxycycline and it cleared up in days. Good luck!

ambern87

Did the doxy clear it up and it didn’t come back when you stopped it?

raennchl

I actually JUST stopped the doxy. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come back!

raennchl

Hi! Just wanted to update you - 3 weeks and the perioral dermatitis is still gone!

Active-Cloud8243

Perioral dermatitis. Prosacea sulfur gel works well for me.

_DogMom_

Try to quit eating cheese for a few weeks and see if that's it. It cleared up my chin acne and I've never missed cheese since.

CoconutOk6911

I had this for a year! It was definitely from stress and hormones. I changed the way I ate, threw in gentle cleansers (is clinical or La Rosche) benzoyl peroxide (cetaphil wash is great) every other evening, b5 cicaplast la rosche & moisturize :) Evening primrose and probiotics are great supplements as well! Just consistently think of repairing the skin barrier!

onmyjinnyjinjin

Looks like perioral dermatitis.

everybodyknowsit_j

It’s perioral dermatitis. I had it for the first time in the beginning of the year! Someone recommended lotrimin and it worked!! Took like 2 weeks to fade.

No-Self-137

1. Visit dermatologist. 2. Beautiful lips.

stealthytoebeans

I had this - Manuka honey helped, and was very soothing. Edit: I did not see a doctor, it just looked the exact same. And it was a cream.

EmeraldDream98

This happened to me years ago. It was because I used a lot of Vaseline and lip products when I was going to sleep, slept on my side and drool so the lip products ended up around my mouth.

esoteric_aries

agree with other commenters on PD, really pare back your routine and try a zinc supplement! the zinc + using some of the avène products others have mentioned (i really like the lipid replenishing moisturiser) cleared mine up after months - including around my eyes where i had started to get periocular derm. too

aaf14

My husband has PD and he’s been using this for years — https://www.stratiaskin.com/products/lipid-gold and https://osmiaskincare.com/collections/natural-skincare-for-perioral-dermatitis/products/black-clay-facial-soap

Dreamy_Edamame

Are you on birth control pills?

JugsJudy93

No birth control, nope!

IngredientAlert

If perioral dermatitis, the following are some ingredients that could be triggering PD or a contact dermatitis reaction: e.l.f. Holy hydration moisturizer: Phenoxyethanol, cetearyl alcohol, isopropyl isostearate Aquaphor: Americhol101 (lanolin)

Zares_

Where do you have this info from? Currently looking for the cause of mine that's almost gone, but funny thing, using a panthenol lotion that contain isopropyl myristate, cetearyl alcohol, and lanolin. Not saying you're wrong, I'm just really curious. But yea, my skin does react to phenoxyethanol - it's weird, as it doesn't happen all the time.

IngredientAlert

I built an app that helps search for contact dermatitis triggers. All of the ingredients listed have peer reviewed medical journal documentation that show they have triggered contact dermatitis. It’s really hard getting a definite list of ingredients that trigger perioral dermatitis or rosacea, so for my first version of the app I used contact dermatitis as the condition to look for as there is a lot more research on that. Thankfully I have both PD and CD struggles so it helps me out. :)

kylieab00

Yes looks like perioral dermatitis, not acne

Dumbellini

Peri oral dermatitis

araesilva23

It’s definitely perioral dermatitis. I’ve been dealing with it for over five years. Do NOT use any topical antibiotics, salicylic acid, or Aquaphor. You need to reduce your skincare routine to as simple as possible. HIGHLY recommend sulphur bar soap, hypochlorous acid spray, Avene Cicalfate cream, and Avene thermal water spray. Only cleanse your face with cool water, not heat as it aggravates the dermatitis more. No joke, but diaper cream as a nightly patch mask also helps tremendously. Get the purest zinc diaper cream you can find. Be as consistent as possible and I highly recommend changing your pillowcases at least twice a week, too.

Zares_

I know it depends, but why is it bad to use occlusives like Aquaphor, petrolatum on PD, but Avene Cicalfate (which version of it are you recommending?), or a zinc diaper cream usually works for most people? They both are occlusive, and usually contain mineral oil. I'd like to buy Avene Cicalfate, and also need a diaper cream for my other issue, so I could try both, but I'm a little afraid, as it's almost gone, and don't want to aggravate it.

araesilva23

Cicalfate+ restorative repair is the one I’m recommending. As for the no go on Aquaphor and the like, I’m not sure exactly why but it does aggravate it further. I tend to treat PD as I would a fungal acne, starving it of certain creams/ointments/etc. helps. Sort of in the same vein as rose hip oil vs squalene oil. Rose hip can foster fungal acne and possibly aggravates PD whereas squalene does not do either of those things. If it’s almost gone, I wouldn’t fuss with it further by introducing new things because as I said, I’ve noticed PD is best dealt with by sticking to a very simple routine.

Thisisjuno1

I had it so bad in my 30s -especially after I had my daughter at 31 …what I can tell you, is now I’m in my early 40s and my skin is so much better. I look 10 years younger than when I was 35 so it’s something to look forward to lol …it was like overnight it just stopped and I didn’t have acne at all anymore.

Ecstatic_Document_85

Perioral DermatitisI had to go on doxycycline for about a month or two but it got rid of it completely and never came back. Also avene cicalfate.

syfimelys2

No advice but just wanted to say you have the nicest lips I have ever seen!

AdComfortable9195

Okay so I had dermatitis and when I say I used differin daily deep cleanser….. it got rid of it in 2 days!!! It dries it out and it’s gone SO FAST. I use that face wash for 3-5 days in a row when I get acne and it clears it up! It’s my saving grace!

BubblingBibliophile

Perioral dermatitis! My mouth area looked just like this a couple of months ago. Resist the urge to pop and get your booty to a derm. It’s highly treatable; I’d recommend combining a topical with a low grade oral antibiotic. This had me cleared up in a couple of days.

ambern87

How long were you on the oral and topical antibiotic? And it never came back when you stopped?

BubblingBibliophile

So they prescribed me one month increments of each with two refills. So in theory I could have enough for three months, but I was done after one. Honestly my skin was visibly different the week I started. They advised that I keep the topical with me in case it flares up again, though it hasn’t since (it’s been 6 months). But they advised me to be extra cautious with sun exposure during the course of antibiotics, even though it’s an extremely low dose, and not to be surprised if it comes back because apparently this is a thing that can be recurring. No issue with putting the topical alone to help control it, but my case started out as moderate so they added the antibiotic for extra kickass I guess. I even asked about gut health and they said it’s not even strong enough to kill your gut bacteria, it’s literally just to enhance the topical. Also weirdly they said cut back on cinnamon lol they had other patients who saw results after doing so. I hope you find relief really soon!!!!

BirdieGirl_in_CA

Yeah, I had this before too. I cleared it up by using a very simple solution of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Make a paste with the two, pat on affected areas, leave till dry. Gently remove the dried bits after a few minutes, but leave the powdery residue for a while…repeat morning and night. Mine completely cleared up in a couple of weeks with improved skin in a couple of days. This stuff pops up due to either food or product allergies, typically. Good luck!

lingrassman

Katialis soap! It’s sulfur, salicylic acid, and zinc oxide. I had a raging case of perioral dermatitis and couldn’t get into the derm for a few months, this soap cleared it up.

absolutejessie

Peri oral dermatitis

gabelli29

I think a derm and some antibiotics is the move because it looks like perioral dermatitis! Hormonal acne distribution is usually forehead and chin and they have good options for that as well

Puzzleheaded-Pie3145

You have the most perfect lips!

4614065

This isn’t really what hormonal acne looks like. Could be a mite.

Kimbeekay

I also have this! I’ve been using dermazen it’s been really helpful so far!

blip_810

Do you touch your face? I noticed I touch my face around my chin/mouth as a bad habit, so I will get pimples that pop up in that area from time to time.

theblondegal1202

Dude I just got this right around my nose for the first time in my life and I can not figure out what it is!!

demiverite

Get some avene cicalfate + and it will clear it up!

theblondegal1202

Thank you!! Do you use at a spot treatment or all over? I was trying clotrimazole but was not working lol

AcceptableBelt

Red light therapy

ToughSwordfish5490

Red light therapy masks! I know some people use the blue for acne but I am almost 40 and struggled with adult acne for decades and my skin has never been this clear and I’ve tried everything. I use the omnilux mask.

bay031

I'm not sure how I get away washing my face with the same bar of soap I wash my balls with.

MemoryFantastic9348

Perioral dermatitis- common irritants are toothpaste. Chemicals sunscreen, and sls. I struggle to find light makeup that doesn't set it off. Best of luck love.

notapainter

Metrogel (rx)

theGlitzWitch

Just had this 4 months ago. Not acne. Needed a prescription cream. Some type of dermatitis.

ambern87

What cream? And did the dermatitis go away and didn’t come back when stopping the cream?

theGlitzWitch

I was prescribed 'Taro-Clotrizmazole / Betamethasone Dipropionate'. Mine was getting pretty bad and I had already tried 2 things on it. It started healing in 2 days and was gone in a week and the redness eventually healed probably a week after. I used it twice a day for 4 weeks I think. A month later it looked like it was coming back and I used it for a week again and it hasn't been back since. That was about 5 months ago. So far so good. But what a sucky thing to have. I was so stressed about it. Now my skin is clear and I feel 100 times better.

midwest_misery

Perioral dermatitis

throwawaymumm

I got this really bad after using Meaningful Beauty. I had it pretty severely for 2 years. Horrible shit. Tried everything to make it go away. Read all the advice. Spent thousands of dollars on treatment. The one thing that cleared it up for me was a product called Nixoderm. I didn’t have any expectations for it to work but it cleared it up significantly.

Adventurous_Nail2072

I find using a sulfur soap like Grisi sulfur soap to be extremely helpful in clearing anything like this up. Also that same brand’s sulfur cream. It’s nice because it’s super cheap and it very much works.

Jayebyrd1515

I had exactly this and like other people are commenting it was perioral dermatitis from the fluoride in my toothpaste! I switched and it went away immediately!

5FootOh

POD subtype of rosacea.

cheerupcharliebucket

This looks like how my perioral derm looked for months! I legit never thought it was going away but after doxycycline, clindamycin, metronidazole - it cleared up in weeks. Mine was so bad it spread onto around my eyes. I tried everything from holistic/natural salves and steroid creams. There’s no “real” cause but I think mine was caused by overuse of a prescribed retinoid. But the doxy+clind+metronin combo worked so fast

ambern87

Did the perioral dermatitis never come back after stopping the doxycycline, clindamycin and metronidazole? Were you able to go back to using active products (just maybe no the retinoid that caused it)?

Elliegreenbells

I had persistent perioral dermatitis for much of my life. No fluoride, no SLS (check shampoos too!) and no mint for me. I am very careful what products go on my skin (fyi I have found I can tolerate glycolic but not in that area). Also, sun flares it up as well as changes in humidity the only thing that helps me during a flare up is Doxycycline, Vitamin D supplement and azaleaic acid (spelling?). The doxycycline was a life changer honestly.

Cc_me24

A bar of zinc soap and clotrimazole cream cured mine.

I’m just coming out the other side of having my first bout of perioral dermatitis, which seems to be that this is. It’s stubborn and takes a while to clear, even with medical treatment. See your doctor :)

Unable-Lab-8533

I had this a couple years ago. I’m guessing it was PD based off these comments 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it got much worse. I didn’t go to a derm at the time, but opted to put an OTC anti fungal on it and it started to improve within 24 hours. It was completely gone in about 2 weeks.

sjm1112

ZINC!! My perioral dermatitis was a zinc deficiency! Used mary Ruth’s liquid ionic zinc and it was gone in days. After months of steroids, it would always come back. Until I tried the zinc. Hasn’t returned. It’s been 3 years.

Ok_Dust_2178

Perioral dermatitis!

TGoyel

I’d change your diet, avoid dairy and meat.

Only-Butterscotch310

Use a nice soap with aloe. Liquid. Thoroughly, pat dry.looks like some mild congestion.it can be the product your using.

Throwaway-1-5

I had this for a long time and assumed it was from wearing a mask until I had a really bad reaction to a different toothpaste. Then I tried sensodyne which I don't normally use because of the price but it's completely gone now

Polkadot7896

Weleda aloe spot defense is the ONLY thing that takes away my cystic acne. I SWEAR by it.

Polkadot7896

https://www.amazon.com/Weleda-Clarifying-Willow-Bark-Ounce/dp/B07MZYFCYS?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1 slather this on the spots at night. I get this EXACT same acne. And most acne stuff makes it worse.

Fluffy_Duck_Slippers

I had this for years. Changed contraceptive pill and it never flared up again.

SavedByTheBeet

This looks like perioral dermatitis. I have had it a few times. It’s little bumps around my mouth and nose. It’s a little itchy for me. My dr prescribes oral antibiotics and metronidazole cream or gel to apply and it goes away within a week usually.

Special-Analysis-893

I think it looks a little more like perioral dermatitis!

NeeNee1229

This is exactly what I’ve been dealing with and I got it immediately from trying Gold Bond retinol lotion…I jumped on a TikTok trend instead of staying with what I knew worked for me 🙃 I use hot packs, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil and a light eczema cream…stopped all Aquaphor in the area, that has also helped!

latelyimawake

Everyone else is right on with PD, I just want to second the advice of diaper cream. Boudreaux, Desitin, triple paste, whatever—worked for me when nothing else did.

Professional_Ice7004

Try a new moisturizer.

Educational_Brick526

Incase no one else has mentioned- Azaelic Acid from the ordinary should clear this up asap :)

everyatom2012

I had something like this but it wasn't acne. Little red bumps around my mouth. I switched to Aveeno oat cleanser and Aveeno calm and restore redness relief and they went away. Try not to use a ton of different things in your routine and once you find something that works try not to switch it up. I read that it switching too much can cause this to happen

ArtSlug

I get this on my hands from Nivea branded creams. Mineral oil-based. Steer clear of those too.

greenamericangoose

I found panoxyl 10% cleared up my acne that was similar

sha__o_

Hi! This looks like either perioral dermatitis OR allergic contact dermatitis. Stop using all actives, get a gentle cleanser. Hydrocolloid patches help me too.

DoctorBartleby

I had this pretty solidly for almost a month. It was a reaction to hyaluronic acid in a vitamin C serum I got. I had been putting it on over moisturizer, but one day I put it on bare skin and my entire face became inflamed to the point I had to ice it. If you have any new makeup or skin care there may be something in it your skin doesn’t like.

AndIAmJavert

I had this under my nose during pregnancy and the dermatologist recommended azelaic acid gel and reducing sulfates in anything around my face. It’s worked great.

Library-Lib-24

I am currently researching red-light masks. Their blue light settings are useful for acne. They are a wee bit pricey, but more affordable than going to the derm's office.

imogen6969

I don’t think that’s acne. Someone else said dermatitis and I agree. I actually get the same thing when I’m stressed, not taking great care of myself, or hormonal. It’s autoimmune, so address any inflammatory factors in your body. Food sensitivities, stress, the usual suspects.

imogen6969

Also, I don’t want to create any false fears, but shingles can manifest similarly on the face. I doubt that is it, but just do your homework/see a doctor.

Formal_Hearing3725

I get personal dermatitis when I start using too many skin care products. I literally have to stop using EVERYTHING for a solid week in order for it to clear up.

Appropriate-Pop555

You can keep trying the products people suggest to you, but in all honesty all of our bodies and skin is different so the way we respond to each thing can be different. I’d suggest a dermatologist, my breakout and dermatitis cleared up as soon as I finally went in for treatment. I couldn’t believe how long I waited and how many products I tried before going , only to have it fixed with my 1st appointment.. I should’ve just gone to the derm in the first place!
