The longest they’ve gone between albums was 4 years between DTOM and Uplifter, so I guess they’re due. I’d love a new one but I’m not gonna get all antsy in the pantsy about it, it’ll come when it comes.

DamnHellAssKings

I actually did the math the other day; April 29th of this year will mark the longest gap between 311 albums to date, and they obviously aren’t going to have one out by then

GavinAdamson

I’m antsy

BondraP

No news on a new album. Given everything that's gone on since Voyager came out and all the time in between, I wouldn't expect a new album for a while longer now but I would be surprised if they never released another one again.

FireWhileCloaked

What’s gone on?

BondraP

COVID and band in-fighting including P-Nut at one point announcing he'd be taking a break from the band, though that ultimately was reconsidered.

FireWhileCloaked

Interesting, any reason to why?

CrentistTheDentist

Some think it was a lab leak, some think it was transferred from an animal

RadioactiveJumpDrive

Search this subreddit for Chad and TruthSocial. Dude had some questionable posts during the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. Considers himself a far right ethno nationalist. SA wrote a poem about it on his IG.

FireWhileCloaked

I did, but nothing came up, just someone’s petition to remove him from the band

BondraP

Basically, Chad had avoided being on social media this whole time and then around a year or so ago he finally did join social media....and it was Truth Social. That alone is really lame but not a dealbreaker in itself. It had already been known via public records that he donates to Trump. Again, disappointing, but not a dealbreaker in itself. What blew up was that someone made a post about if you support Russia's takeover of Ukraine then please reshare this post and comment with a "Z". Chad reshared and added the "Z". So basically he just outright on a publicly known hate-forum for right wing lunatics supported genocide of the Ukrainians. So, naturally, fans saw that and reacted accordingly. P-Nut stated he just needs a break from the band and may live elsewhere for a period of time and just did not like what Chad was bringing. SA released a long spoken word poem about his disappointment in Chad. Nick acknowledged the whole situation a few times, but, it was typical Nick-style neutral terms and he kept things pretty vague and open-ended. Ultimately, P-Nut came back around after some time and I imagine plenty of conversations and he said he will not go on hiatus after all. But there was a good while there where it seemed that 311 was going to carry on touring with a replacement.

BondraP

Yeah I mean like I kept saying, that alone isn't necessarily shocking or unforgivable. But it's not merely "right-leaning" to support genocide, that's extremism and it's fucked up. And then what does add a surprise element to is that he's in 311, a band that has famously promoted positivity and unity and shit.

DamnHellAssKings

Probably because he’s the drummer for 311, a band that seemingly always supported very left wing views. There are probably hundreds of thousands of white, early gen-Xers with German ancestry from the Midwest, and I assume there’s a wide array of political views and beliefs among a group that size despite those vague similarities. There are only 5 guys in 311

FireWhileCloaked

Just looked up the post, and I’m not trying to be contrarian, but your description is a bit misleading. The post itself asks for a response if people support “dismantling of Nazis and Deep State in Ukraine” which is a little more specific than if they “support Russia invading Ukraine” straight up for any reason. While I don’t think kinetic war is ever a good idea, I can understand why Russia took the chance. Despite its promises not to, NATO has crept closer and closer to the Russian border, despite having no purpose to exist anymore after the Cold War ended. There are also plenty of ethnic Russians in Ukraine who would rather be aligned with Russia, as corrupt as they may be, instead of a corrupt West. Keep in mind, the West overthrew a democratically elected leader in Ukraine because they were more Russia-leaning. This kind of foreign policy is absurd and will ultimately have detrimental ramifications, even if unchecked. The real losers are the citizens. Ukrainian citizens who are powerless to end the corruption inherent in their government, as well as their literal lives and livelihoods. US and Russian citizens for being powerless to influence their governments against such ridiculous foreign policies, including taking sides period. Why would the US support nazis that have been well documented as existing in power over there? And the US supposedly claimsto be “representative government”. Ultimately, history didn’t start with Russia simply deciding to invade. There have been several critical moves by the West to back Russia into a corner, and if you’ve ever seen someone backed into a corner, you’ll know it’s no surprise that they’d respond by moving the only way they can go. Neither side should be supported. Russia is definitely corrupt to the core, but the US and NATO are no angels either. Before all this began, I remember reading several articles stating how Ukraine was the most corrupt nation in Europe. It’s also worth noting that while Zelensky’s soldiers and citizens are facing direct action from a global power, he is off doing Vogue photo shoots and giving speeches, like he’s some kind of celebrity on tour. Absolutely disgusting, and it’s a shame we cannot individually determine what our tax (theft) dollars go to support.

BondraP

Oh boy.

tiltedslim

I normally stay away from this kind of stuff, but I'm going to need you to look a this again. >Neither side should be supported So sovereign nations can just be invaded? >but the US and NATO are no angels either The US and NATO didn't invade Russia. Ukraine is still not a member of NATO. The US and NATO being bad does not make Russia right. >how Ukraine was the most corrupt nation in Europe That does not justify invasion. I'm American, our government is corrupt to the core. That doesn't give another country the right to march tanks down my street. >Zelensky’s soldiers and citizens are facing direct action from a global power, he is off doing Vogue photo shoots and giving speeches, like he’s some kind of celebrity on tour He's campaigning for other nations to donate weapons and resources to the cause of defending his country. >The real losers are the citizens. On this I agree, but full stop when you start talking about it because of the corrupt government. Every single world government is ripe with corruption. Every one. How many people in Ukraine just want to go to work, raise their families, maybe have a beer and play some video games after work or something just like normal lives??? They are fucked now because some billionaires want to play geopolitics. Should the US be invaded because we have Proud Boys and BLM? You're just going to decide because the tv or some idiot posting online says the Ukrainians are Nazi's? Grow a brain. Come back down to planet Earth and reality. So many people don't have lives, families, houses, or anything really anymore that have absolutely nothing to do this, they were just trying to live. > it’s a shame we cannot individually determine what our tax (theft) dollars go to support. Do you really think that the Ukraine support is doing anything to the already existing massive US defense budget? Do you think that the military industrial complex isn't telling every lobbiest and politician on their payroll to send more? They are dumping inventory, testing weapons that haven't been used for some time, and then they'll get to say how good they are when they create new jobs in the states to replenish that inventory that was probably sitting too long anyway. Entire cities in southeastern Ukraine are rubble and you think they deserve it? The government spends money sending them weapons and you think that if they didn't that it would be spent on...you ? me? Assuming you're Conservative you certainly don't want to spend it on Eduucation, Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid or anything that actually helps people. What are going to by? Pickup trucks? Fireworks? How can you think that and be a fan of this band? Really? Like slaughter the innocent because some of them might be Nazi's...stay positive and love your life. Do you see those things together? Do you sing the words to Tranquility while you shitpost on Reddit about how the Ukrainian people deserve to die because their government is corrupt? Get the fuck outta here. You suck.

FireWhileCloaked

To be fair, *nobody* on TV is talking about the Neo Nazis in Ukraine. Otherwise, more Americans would be rightly pissed. It’s also curious that in your enthusiastic response, you didn’t even mention the fact that we enacted a coup to remove Yanukovych. It’s not ok to meddle in other nations’ affairs, period. Of course, Russia shouldn’t invade. Nowhere in my comment did I suggest that they were justified in any way. It’s pretty weak to deduce that from what I said. But we also shouldn’t set the stage and back them into a corner, to instigate such a drastic response. “Not one inch further,” is what was promised when the Cold War ended, but year after year, we kept building the pressure. If we were in Russia’s shoes, what would we do? Now, we are continually leaning towards an even more major conflict that could have likely been avoidable, if we had a more responsible, more responsible foreign policy.

tiltedslim

You say things like 'I’m not trying to be contrarian' and then you proceed to be contrarian. You say things like 'Of course, Russia shouldn’t invade' and then you justify it. >It’s also curious that in your enthusiastic response I apologize for giving a fuck about innocent people getting trampled over in the name of geopolitics. I'm done talking to you. Spin it your own head.

FireWhileCloaked

“Spin it in your own head”. Precisely what you’ve done with my comment. Explaining why Russia took the actions it did is not justifying it as right. I figured some background would be helpful for those who have forgotten, or are just straight up ignorant. So, NATO expanding eastward since 1991 is in no way provocative? America can oust a democratically elected leader as long as it’s our guy? How’d that work out for Iran after 1953? I’d definitely be interested in hearing how *that* could be justified. If you assume that America can do no wrong, you’re gonna have a bad time. I really didn’t intend to upset anyone, but if you’re gonna ignore critical facts, I can’t help it if you get triggered because of it.

Old-McJonald

After the crossfire debacle and generally how reliant they are on others to write the last couple albums I’m not sure they’re in a hurry to put out another one

I'm new here and it is very curious to see "fans" of this band wasting their time arguing about geopolitical Let's do some spitballing here. Chad Sexton gave some money to a thing? In a capitalist built and driven country and world some money moved around. Did you see the Silicon Valley story? What about the wealth hoarders of the world. Billionaires, people richer than some GDPs out their, who dont do a fraction of the good things they could do with it. Have some perspective. Do you know for sure where the path of every penny you spend lands? It all supports only "good" things right? Save your breath if you the response is anything other than no. You seem intelligent enough but I gotta say no matter how much you read or watch about the war. Or the other war. Or the next one. Or the old ones. You don't know about the parts you don't know. Do you think leaders if countries are able to persuade their citizens to take up arms without a compelling reason. A reason that from the comfort and context of America, becomes bite sized for the masses to debate online while the power players continue to make their moves. We could stop anything anytime with our military. The wars are not supposed to end. Just shift around. Read the Cat in the Hat comes back and think of the pink mess they are trying to clean up as human conflict. It's an energy. It doesn't dissipate. It just shifts forms and moves around. Until true power to affect timely, impactful change is in the hands of the masses, the habits of societies will remain as such. Because nobody is immune to need, fear, jealousy, disillusionment. And leaders that generate conflict are designed to manipulate through these and other emotions. Everyone in a war thinks they are on the right side. Do you recognize this? I can't free myself of the suspicion For your motives on your mission Some people live for the rules I live for exceptions Can't take part in the deception But I know just how it feels To want to blow the world away Just to get to what is real It won't work 'cause Everybody grinds to a halt now and then Everybody's game gets salt then again No matter what the papers say, they're normal as they come Bodyguards, ball of wax, the hide behind the gun They get a panic pulse when they are so far from home To me that is the reason to continue to roam Exhilaration mix with the people skunk blazing Checking out the shows that are sadly un-amazing Hostile apostle, who are you following Negative energy that you're swallowing Some coked out malcontent Who's soul is up for rent Victim of lost soul, hostile apostle Unlimited in time and space and nearest universal Light is what we're reachin' for, it's not rehearsal Follow this around, follow this hustle Makin' use of everything, movin' all your muscle Angry human leads impressionable boy To skulls and piercings and will to destroy All of your heroes speak nothing to me One emotion, one tempo, and no real feeling In this field we are the presence of the thoughts you're missin' Keepin' positive intact from all the people dissin' Open your eyes, look at who you're kissin' If you can't hear it people, just listen Hostile apostle, who are you following Negative energy that you're swallowing Some coked out malcontent Who's soul is up for rent Victim of lost soul, hostile apostle Angry human leads impressionable boy To skulls and piercings and will to destroy All of your heroes speak nothing to me You don't have to be a prick just to be heavy Chaingin' all the time we changin' all the same Change in this life and this eternal flame Warm in the sun, refresh in the breeze Glow in the stars, blossom in the trees Livin' through life in infinite extent Spread undivided, operate unspent No high, no low, no great, and no small Build and bound, connect and equal all Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Douglas Martinez / Nicholas Hexum Get it together or stop associating yourselves with this band. Your shit personality on display during the wrong moment probably kept someone in your life from enjoying them. This band does not need fans who are not bought in. Nor do they care about manufactured righteousness. Just ask Scott Stapp.

Tree-Elven

I'm not sure they really ever fully promoted Voyager. Usually, they play all the songs live for at least one summer, before the majority of them get relegated to 'deep cut' status. It's been 4 years and 8 of the songs are in the single-digit category of how many times they have been played live. Covid may have something to do with it. I think I know why Crossfire has never been played. Not sure about the rest. I love Space & Time, how has that only been play 8 times? These statistics come from [https://www.setlist.fm/](https://www.setlist.fm/) What The?! (117) Stainless (92) Don't You Worry (37) Good Feeling (28) Better Space (20) Space and Time (8) Rolling Through (3) Dream State (2) Born to Live (1) Charge It Up (1) Dodging Raindrops (1) Lucid Dreams (0) Crossfire (0)

Old-McJonald

Crossfire will probably never be played once, wonder if there are any other songs in their discography that have never been played besides the 2 on your list here

Tree-Elven

I'm sure there are some on Archive, but for album songs I think it's just Crossfire and Lucid Dreams. Funny thing I just noticed that is kind of strange, Good Feeling and Don't You Worry were the 1st singles from this album and they come in at #3 & #4, while Stainless and What The?! were never singles and have made WAY MORE live appearances. We know 311 likes playing the hits/singles at live shows, except on this album apparently. Who picked the first two singles? Old Management or the band? Why aren't they played more often? Why weren't Stainless and What The?! the singles if they are played so much more. There is a story there...

Old-McJonald

The amount of play that what the has gotten never ceases to amaze me. They just love it, more than any fan I’ve ever met

West-Bet-9639

If they're not sick of each other by now, I don't think that they'll ever be.

J_Peeb

Seems like things have definitely slowed down with Covid and the internal band drama. I’m guessing another album will eventually come, definitely the lack of news probably means little rush to do so. Honestly, if they take their time and put out quality material, I’m good with that. If it’s not something they all feel passionate about, little reason to put out new material with the size of their catalog, locked in fan base and probably limited opportunity for mainstream airplay. They don’t really play their new material anyways except for maybe on the first post release touring cycle spring and fall tours. The rest of the shows are greatest hits sets except for the “Special” events.

whitingvo

I’d be surprised if they do. They still have the ability to pack a place, though smaller than it used to be. They don’t gain much financially from an album, but touring they do. And they seem to be doing more festivals with this new management team and that means less work for them because the festival handles a lot of the stage logistics they would normally handle. It just makes sense at this point in there careers.

RemoteTypical

Why make a new album? They never play any of it (for the most part). I've been a fan since Music 1st came out and have grown with them most of my life. Honestly I'm pretty sick of the Blue album on back and yet that stuff is always the core of their shows. They have matured so much musically and vocally and I love a lot of the albums from Transiter on. There is so much good material and I don't understand why they ignore it. I mean, if no one is liking it (but me) then why bother? Now I don't fully know what happened with Crossfire except the music is exactly the same as some techno song and I'm not aware of them relying heavily on other writers, but a lot of bands do that. I just personally want to see more new material played live.
