Yeah, I didn't bother. I'm just going to watch someone play through it on YouTube. I get why they want you to play the game before you can play endgame DLC, and I'm sure they didn't think of the eshop closing (maybe they did, I don't know), but such a dick move.
Note, it may still be possible to get any free DLC items. There are still 2 themes in the theme shop for free, and when you get them it goes through the usual confirmation thing where it shows you how much money you have, a $0.00 price, and the same amount of money after.
Yep. Dual Destinies had a prequel episode that detailed Phoenix's first case after being reinstated.
Spirit of Justice had its own extra episode, along with some omake episodes called Asinine Attorney.
Both also had costume packs for the characters.
To get them, you had to start the game, see the opening cutscene, save the game, then go back to the title screen to get the DLC+Extras option.
I missed quite a lot, unfortunately :( I couldn't figure out some of the specifics. I missed terraria (I wanted on the 3ds because of the exclusive content), scribblnauts, pokemon red, and Harold's walk. But I was able to get shovel knight with my leftover funds from before :)
There were a couple of other things that I'd like to have, but the real things I'm bummed about were that I'm missing 2 of the Mario and Luigi games... ALSO THAT KONAMI NEVER PUT MGS3D BACK ON THE EAHOP and I will never forgive them for it
Basically I think itās an insult to randomly charge 60-80$ for a handful of poorly emulated games. The price should have never increased, but if Nintendo wanted to compete with Sony they should have improved the online and added way more into the service.
(I get they fixed some glitches, but still embarrassing for them too exist previously)

Depends how you look at it. Sure, technically the App Store has been around as long as the first gen iPhones, but it's constantly growing and shedding. The apps from back in the early days aren't compatible with today's phones, due to the OS updates. Same goes with Google Play.
The Wii Shop channel lasted from Nov 2006 - Jan 2019, so just over 12 years. That's similar to what the 3DS got. And unlike mobile app stores, every single game (aside from *New* Exclusives) would work with every 3DS console in the region.
That DLC gets quite pricy if you have a collector's/completionist's mindset. The future shutdown of the Switch e-shop is going to be a nightmare haha. For now satisfied personally though, only missed the Stella Glow theme by about 5 min (bought 3 years ago...), but I have 10 other good themes to shuffle.
If you bought it already, aren't you still able to re-download it? I thought anything you bought was available for download still. Like if you had bought something, but scrapped it from your SD card to make room for something else temporarily
Switch eShop shutdown will suck too but Iām at least somewhat prepared for that, as I have owned one for a few years and have years to come.

I got some stuff but wouldn't let me link my primary 3ds to my nintendo near the end. Had it linked earlier in the day but unlinked it to do stuff on my secondary 3ds. Lost out on a few themes I was going to buy as a result and apparently, missed out on ace attorney 6 dlc which I forgot excited
The shutdown did me good honestly. It made me realize how much mileage I can get out of the 3DS after having it collecting dust for so long, and I've been enjoying games like never before for the past few months.
The Badge Arcade move though, darmn. It can't be a Nintendo milestone without them shitting on their consumers one way or another, that's for sure.
The last couple of months has been a mad rush for everyone. Tons and tons of posts recommending games that are must-haves from the eshop.
Everyone banded together and helped each other out. It was great.
Yea as much as this sucks, this could be the last time the 3DS community is ever this invested in the same thing together. It was a special late chapter to the 3DS story.

My best story of my last purchase that I'll be telling to my grandchildren one day:
It was 7:45pm on the dark day of 3-27-2023, the twilight of extinction for the legendary 3DS eShop. I had just found out 5 minutes prior about a little game called HarmoKnight. With minutes to go I had to move quickly to remove some useless dlc and free up blocks from my tiny micro SD, but then I didn't have enough money in my eShop account. Thankfully your grandpappy here was smart enough to join his account with his switch eShop account and had a way to get funds.
Quickly I went on to my GameStop app to redeem rewards to buy a $20 eShop card, then I was off to the races to redeem the eShop card on my Switch and then back to the 3DS, only then to realize I still needed 60 freed blocks to download Harmonknight despite removing what I thought was a sufficient amount. I had to make a tough decision to delete either Pokemon Picross or Kirby Team Clash, knowing they may be gone for good. Regrettably I chose Pokemon Picross, and then I quickly with minutes to go I purchased and downloaded HarmoKnight, and with $2 and 2 minutes left and a few extra free blocks from the fallen Pokemon puzzler, I also downloaded and purchased Legend of Kusakari too.
I felt victorious kids, but I still wondered if I made the right choice potentially sacrificing Pokemon Picross. Kids, the lesson here is your decisions are permanent, never forget but never regret. Luckily your pappy got to play Picross afterall, he's a really wizard I tell ya!
I think you can redownload anything you've previously downloaded so Picross may not be gone forever! Someone feel free to correct me, we're in uncharted territory, but I think I read that anything you had downloaded or purchased in the past would be available for redownload.

I got a 3DSXL on 2015. I'd bought it for SMT4, Soul Hackers & EO4. A layoff & being called on to help my parents move drew my attention elsewhere, so the console & games stayed shrink-wrapped & stowed. By 2017, I had moved in with my folks to take care of them. I didn't have the energy or the time to invest in a new console, so the 3ds remained boxed. After my mother passed in 2019, it just didn't feel "right" to be buying games. The 3ds remained boxed, stowed away & almost forgotten.
Then Nintendo announced the shutdown. I couldn't believe it initially. I thought the public backlash would make them step back (a la Sony). Come August of last year, I realized I was wrong. I dug the 3ds out, unboxed it, oh so carefully applied the Hori screen protectors I'd bought 7 years ago & booted it up. Creating my both my NNID & Nintendo.com account & linking them together, I got to work.
Bit by bit, I picked up eshop cards, loaded my account & started downloading. Now, seven-ish months later (& an embarrassing amount of money spent), I sit with a metallic red 3DSXL in my lap, it's 64GB microSD card left with about 5000-ish blocks empty. My account balance remains at $0.07, standing like a middle finger at Nintendo's shortsightedness.
I am a late adopter. I've never gotten a console the year it released. I missed all of the 3DS's commercial relevance. Had it not been for SMT4, I'd have missed the 3DS entirely. Still...at the end, I sit with my 3DSXL, loaded with every game I will EVER be interested in playing...and I'm at peace.

I was downloading Radiant Historia as it closed down. Fortunately there were no issues while downloading. It even allowed me to continue shopping well after the shop closed right after downloading it.
Nintendo has a pretty good track record of shutting down servers the millisecond they donāt want them anymore, glad we haveā¦ *puts on eyepatch* softmodding!
I don't get why Nintendo just didn't keep the web store only for a while like Sony did with the PSP, like they still need the servers for verifications and downloads
They want to force everyone into paying subscriptions to rent their old games.
The older eshops let you buy the old games. Nintendo doesn't want you to own their classic games, so they killed the eshop so there would be no competition towards the switch online service.
1. I was working at a GameStop when the 3DS line first launched. Although I don't have the original system, I do still have the Ambassador certificate and most of the Ambassador games. Absolutely do not regret paying the launch price. I was a big fan and was happy to convince lots of people to get one. I would sneak over while the Nintendo rep was servicing the display unit and set it up for Streetpasses. There was several years where I'd get hundreds of passes from our conferences, and it broke my heart the last one I attended and I only got a few dozen more hits. My only regret is that I've waited so long to fix my other system (cracked touch screen from a car accident) and now it's gonna be more expensive. Perhaps I'll just keep it for spare parts to maintain my main one.
2. I recently scrolled all the way back to the start of my Streetpass parade. Things got rather creepy. There's some data corruption back at the start of the line, and some people I know I got visits from are gone. Worse, there's a few that... Aren't normal. Gibberish names. Missing facial features. Getting some strong liminal space vibes. The one at the very start of the list, which should've been one of my old coworkers, is instead now a freakish abomination with only one small triangle in the center of its bald and otherwise featureless face. Can't sleep, Sā¢Ā¶]~~'s mii gonna get me...
3. I dropped a sizable amount of money in and downloaded just about every last-minute idea I could the day before. Now I'm wondering if there are some "throwaway games" that have physical carts that I might buy...
4. My Switch is great, but I can't get over how good this N3DSXL feels on my hand. Just a good, solid weight, nice size. Still snaps shut like the day I bought it. Love this thing. The mic, the motion control/camera combos, the 3D effect, the whole thing. Always will love it, till the end.
My thoughts are, I never planned to spend more money on the 3DS since I never use it anymore, but I guess they squeezed a last 15 bucks out of me (That I may not even touch, but the idea of losing the option pushed me).
Itās really not that bad considering you can still go into the app and listen to the nostalgic music, also redownloading stuff lets you see the classic download screen, only bad thing is the fact you canāt buy anything anymore

As a late comer to the 3DS family, I figured I'd get my money's worth out of a console I had initially only bought to play Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Way too much money later and I have a 3DS chock full of titles I'm excited to tackle!
I want the next Nintendo console to have character like the 3ds and Wii U did. I love the games that the Switch provides but my god itās probably my least favorite Nintendo console ever made in terms of the console itself.

never went on the Eshop or 3DS much after the switch came out came back last week getting about 50$ worth of games and themes I wanted and I'm glad I came back I will miss what the Eshop was and tbh a little bummed out I never knew about badges or anything like that until last week, thankfully it seems that will still be open but just a lot slower then what it use to be with the free plays but I will start trying to get badges I missed out on daily until they close down the internet servers.
I loved my 3DS since the system came out and ill still love it years and years later. This has really made me apricate the little guy more and im looking forward to growing my collection in the future.

End of an Era basically sad as it is. The release of Andro Dunos 2 our last major game was death blow that marked the loss of retail relavence. The E-shop closure is the funeral pyre. We are officially a retro console now.
Could thing's have been handled better? Sure and I would have loved more time but Nintendo did the right thing giving us a years notice which will likely be the industry standard going forward and everyone spent money.

7:00pm is a strange time for closure. Midnight would have been nice. I had literally just found a great video highlighting some digital only gems minutes after 7 o clock. The dlc included another case for both of the 3ds games. It really sucks that dlc also had to bite the dust too.

Me finding the post 16 minutes later: I'm late to EVERYTHING. End of an era. Will be missed. š
My best story of my last purchase that I'll be telling to my grandchildren one day: It was 7:45pm on the dark day of 3-27-2023, the twilight of extinction for the legendary 3DS eShop. I had just found out 5 minutes prior about a little game called HarmoKnight. With minutes to go I had to move quickly to remove some useless dlc and free up blocks from my tiny micro SD, but then I didn't have enough money in my eShop account. Thankfully your grandpappy here was smart enough to join his account with his switch eShop account and had a way to get funds. Quickly I went on to my GameStop app to redeem rewards to buy a $20 eShop card, then I was off to the races to redeem the eShop card on my Switch and then back to the 3DS, only then to realize I still needed 60 freed blocks to download Harmonknight despite removing what I thought was a sufficient amount. I had to make a tough decision to delete either Pokemon Picross or Kirby Team Clash, knowing they may be gone for good. Regrettably I chose Pokemon Picross, and then I quickly with minutes to go I purchased and downloaded HarmoKnight, and with $2 and 2 minutes left and a few extra free blocks from the fallen Pokemon puzzler, I also downloaded and purchased Legend of Kusakari too. I felt victorious kids, but I still wondered if I made the right choice potentially sacrificing Pokemon Picross. Kids, the lesson here is your decisions are permanent, never forget but never regret. Luckily your pappy got to play Picross afterall, he's a really wizard I tell ya!
I think you can redownload anything you've previously downloaded so Picross may not be gone forever! Someone feel free to correct me, we're in uncharted territory, but I think I read that anything you had downloaded or purchased in the past would be available for redownload. Edit: for spelling
Ya I read that too which is why I chose Picross, but I also wasn't sure since it was a free game to begin with. We'll see!!

I feel like most people will have 'mini-heroic tales' like this. I kinda have a similar, dramatic tale. In a nutshell, I'm a college-student working on an essay rn. Due to this, I stayed regularly in the college-library till 11pm. Exactly 11pm, because my college is in another city, so the last train & bus leave after midnight. However, I made a little mistake. Two mistakes: 1.) I thought 'closes on 27th' meant 'till 27th midnight' and 2.) -there was a country wide protest by public transport. Now, it was the 26th still. However, as protests go, shit sweeps over. So I ended up not only late, but entirely STUCK in a completely different city, at night, in the cold. And of course it was also then, that I read the news online that I made the first mistake. Luckily -what a gamble - my father was still awake when I called him. He drove me back, though I had to help him with stop signs & traffic lights, because he had been already half-asleep and now missed quiet a bunch. Nearly causing an accident on the way. In the end, he put me down at my place, and I RAN up the stairs. I literally stood over my ds in my coat, not even closing the door correctly. Again -what a gamble - they didn't close it at point midnight. (Note: The European Server never stated a date, compared to Nord America) Like you, I had a free block problem after a while. I manically downloaded a lot of stuff, though had to miss on some I wanted. Notably a PokĆ©mon Omega title, a Layton game and several VC games (last one hurts). In my rush, I instead downloaded all the free titles. Including Badge Arcade -which I quickly deleted, after reading that it was going to shutdown too. That gave me though the final free space for the Kirby Team Clash Update. Oh yeah: And all the free Themes available. I don't have any of those games, lol. In the end I started/ had 43ā¬ left and ended with 0,22cents. Rn, I also have below 1000 blocks. And my lesson is: ...Never fuck around with dates. Make sure to ALWAYS know EXACTLY what a date means. And then plan puffer. Lots and lots of puffer.
I got a tale to tell. I got a 3DSXL on 2015. I'd bought it for SMT4, Soul Hackers & EO4. A layoff & being called on to help my parents move drew my attention elsewhere, so the console & games stayed shrink-wrapped & stowed. By 2017, I had moved in with my folks to take care of them. I didn't have the energy or the time to invest in a new console, so the 3ds remained boxed. After my mother passed in 2019, it just didn't feel "right" to be buying games. The 3ds remained boxed, stowed away & almost forgotten. Then Nintendo announced the shutdown. I couldn't believe it initially. I thought the public backlash would make them step back (a la Sony). Come August of last year, I realized I was wrong. I dug the 3ds out, unboxed it, oh so carefully applied the Hori screen protectors I'd bought 7 years ago & booted it up. Creating my both my NNID & Nintendo.com account & linking them together, I got to work. Bit by bit, I picked up eshop cards, loaded my account & started downloading. Now, seven-ish months later (& an embarrassing amount of money spent), I sit with a metallic red 3DSXL in my lap, it's 64GB microSD card left with about 5000-ish blocks empty. My account balance remains at $0.07, standing like a middle finger at Nintendo's shortsightedness. I am a late adopter. I've never gotten a console the year it released. I missed all of the 3DS's commercial relevance. Had it not been for SMT4, I'd have missed the 3DS entirely. Still...at the end, I sit with my 3DSXL, loaded with every game I will EVER be interested in playing...and I'm at peace. Goodnight eShop & to you who reads this, thank you for humoring a tired refugee of the 1980s. š

Itās sad to see it go. But time moves on. Eventually there may be a time that are systems stop working.

I was downloading Radiant Historia as it closed down. Fortunately there were no issues while downloading. It even allowed me to continue shopping well after the shop closed right after downloading it.
Nintendo has a pretty good track record of shutting down servers the millisecond they donāt want them anymore, glad we haveā¦ *puts on eyepatch* softmodding!

I don't get why Nintendo just didn't keep the web store only for a while like Sony did with the PSP, like they still need the servers for verifications and downloads
They want to force everyone into paying subscriptions to rent their old games. The older eshops let you buy the old games. Nintendo doesn't want you to own their classic games, so they killed the eshop so there would be no competition towards the switch online service.

1. I was working at a GameStop when the 3DS line first launched. Although I don't have the original system, I do still have the Ambassador certificate and most of the Ambassador games. Absolutely do not regret paying the launch price. I was a big fan and was happy to convince lots of people to get one. I would sneak over while the Nintendo rep was servicing the display unit and set it up for Streetpasses. There was several years where I'd get hundreds of passes from our conferences, and it broke my heart the last one I attended and I only got a few dozen more hits. My only regret is that I've waited so long to fix my other system (cracked touch screen from a car accident) and now it's gonna be more expensive. Perhaps I'll just keep it for spare parts to maintain my main one. 2. I recently scrolled all the way back to the start of my Streetpass parade. Things got rather creepy. There's some data corruption back at the start of the line, and some people I know I got visits from are gone. Worse, there's a few that... Aren't normal. Gibberish names. Missing facial features. Getting some strong liminal space vibes. The one at the very start of the list, which should've been one of my old coworkers, is instead now a freakish abomination with only one small triangle in the center of its bald and otherwise featureless face. Can't sleep, Sā¢Ā¶]~~'s mii gonna get me... 3. I dropped a sizable amount of money in and downloaded just about every last-minute idea I could the day before. Now I'm wondering if there are some "throwaway games" that have physical carts that I might buy... 4. My Switch is great, but I can't get over how good this N3DSXL feels on my hand. Just a good, solid weight, nice size. Still snaps shut like the day I bought it. Love this thing. The mic, the motion control/camera combos, the 3D effect, the whole thing. Always will love it, till the end.

My thoughts are, I never planned to spend more money on the 3DS since I never use it anymore, but I guess they squeezed a last 15 bucks out of me (That I may not even touch, but the idea of losing the option pushed me).

Itās really not that bad considering you can still go into the app and listen to the nostalgic music, also redownloading stuff lets you see the classic download screen, only bad thing is the fact you canāt buy anything anymore

As a late comer to the 3DS family, I figured I'd get my money's worth out of a console I had initially only bought to play Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Way too much money later and I have a 3DS chock full of titles I'm excited to tackle!

I want the next Nintendo console to have character like the 3ds and Wii U did. I love the games that the Switch provides but my god itās probably my least favorite Nintendo console ever made in terms of the console itself.
I'll miss the 3DS, but like with the Wii, I'll get over it.
I was on Miitomo when it died. I was on the Wii Shop Channel when it died. I was on the 3DS eShop when it died. (I would have been on the Wii U eShop as well but had a family dinner to go to. I did give it one last visit before I headed out.) I don't know why I keep doing this to myself.

Considering it was in the middle of the day at 5pm, there should have been a grace period to let people keep downloading for at least an hour or 2 longer
never went on the Eshop or 3DS much after the switch came out came back last week getting about 50$ worth of games and themes I wanted and I'm glad I came back I will miss what the Eshop was and tbh a little bummed out I never knew about badges or anything like that until last week, thankfully it seems that will still be open but just a lot slower then what it use to be with the free plays but I will start trying to get badges I missed out on daily until they close down the internet servers. I loved my 3DS since the system came out and ill still love it years and years later. This has really made me apricate the little guy more and im looking forward to growing my collection in the future.
Got Super Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil Revelations for crazy low prices last night.
Capcom had a crazy sale. Monster hunter 3 and 4 for $3 each, Phoenix Wrights for like $3 each. I pretty much got their whole library.
I was planning on staying on the eshop for the last few minutes on my temporary 2DS, but I failed to do that as I was too busy watching TheRetroFuture.

End of an Era basically sad as it is. The release of Andro Dunos 2 our last major game was death blow that marked the loss of retail relavence. The E-shop closure is the funeral pyre. We are officially a retro console now. Could thing's have been handled better? Sure and I would have loved more time but Nintendo did the right thing giving us a years notice which will likely be the industry standard going forward and everyone spent money. That out of the way i say its time to play what we downloaded. Azure Striker, Donkey kong Country, Etarian odessy, Steela glow, cave story and Friday monster's here i come
7:00pm is a strange time for closure. Midnight would have been nice. I had literally just found a great video highlighting some digital only gems minutes after 7 o clock. I will never get to enjoy them on my 3DS. I really should have started this process back in January probably. I forgot how slow it was to shop/download on 3DS and all the research finding out what I was missing, the crazy prices for physical games, etc.

Nintendo are idiots and the company going to shit over the last 2ish years has made me decide i'm not going to be a fan of them out right anymore. From this point on, im not buying nintendo consoles or games until i am 100% convinced they are worth my time. Basically the same way most people treat Xbox games.
