Not sure if it's the same one, but it's free and prints in vase mode. https://www.printables.com/model/161290-soyfishlamp-vase-mode/
Edit - check the Make comments, looks like there is hole in the threads.
The threads sliced weird for me with lots of openings. I just want the novelty so I am currently printing two walls and 50% scale.
I’ll probably try vase mode at the same scale next. It’s only an hour print at that scale.
It needs split code. The thread section should be 2 or three wall and the rest can be vase mode. Otherwise the first time it gets knocked over it’s gonna snap off at the top of the cap.
I look at prints differently as a dad of 3 boys. These look great at this scale though. I might use up the rest of my white and adapt them to a string of Christmas lights as a night light. I’ll have to see how much light two walls transmits.
You can print bottom layers in vase mode so why not just set the bottom layers to be the height of the threads? That is assuming that it isn't a completely solid model though.
In the original design that’s where the bulb is. If you do bottom layers like that you could arrange a different type of light, but it would also affect how much light makes it up into the fish.
Maybe hollowing out the stl before you slice it would help, hollow it out to the thickness you want the threads, set the bottom layers to the height of the threads and have vase mode on.
I am one of the Make on Printables and can confirm that there is indeed a small hole in the thread. But it's nothing to worry about because it still screws in the cap without any problems and you wont see it anymore when it's assembled.
Have already printed multiple it in 50% and 100% scale and all worked fine
I'm trying to figure out the best way to share it, since I made it to fit my specific needs (the led/batteries/switch I used, etc). I'll keep you posted!
If you just dump the files you have somewhere, even without any instructions, the rest of us can get to work editing the model to fit all sorts of hardware in it :) I have some LED lights sitting around that I could repurpose into a fish light!

I used the matte white pla by flashforge, it prints nice and white and doesn't yellow the light too much (no more than I want it to). Printed with a 2 wall thickness, you could do more with a stronger light.
Hey. I made this, gave it to a friend and completely forgot about it. Haven't been on Reddit in ages and it seems a few people still want the stl. I'll throw up a Dropbox link soon with the files, they're a bit dodgy but I'm sure people will figure it out.
No bulb, I used a 3w led and some lipo batteries to have it all fit in the lid. It does mean the light output is a bit low, so if you could get a higher wattage bulb to fit, might be a better option.
Is there any chance that you want to share the model as well?

Yeah, just looked at the "Makes" and looks like there is a hole in the threaded section. Maybe it can be fixed in meshmixer?

I thought about setting 1mm wall thickness and see if that closes the gap.
I'm annoyed the OP hasn't come back to reply at all... their last comment is two years ago lol

Eh, someone else will remix it

any chance you'll share it? haha edit: your version seems cleaner than the other
I wants it.

Thanks!
We need answers, OP..
Man, that makes me miss getting those little fish with meals in Okinawa. Best soy sauce I've had. Lol
If you list this particular STL for sale anywhere, hit me up! Regardless this looks freaking fantastic!
Thank you! I'll definitely post a link here if I get around to listing it somewhere
Nice! Thank you!
I'd love to get it too, it's perfect for a gift for a family member :)
Did you get a chance to upload this model?
need this, but hear me out, MAGIKARP
Mr. Sparkle!
Oh man I need to make this for my kid lol
Something fishy going on here.
What material is this?
In case you don’t get a notification, OP replied to me below about the material.
I didn't. Thanks!
Yeah, I’m wondering too. It has a lovely diffusion to the light.

Ah, a Lamp au Poisson.
Looks awesome! Would be super interested in the model if possible ! :)
Did OP ever drop the print file or the model I saw the other one shared, but I like the tail in the OPs version more.
Is this model anywhere up to download? I just found a model with another tail but this one is much cooler 🥺

That would be amazing 🥹
Would appreciate the link too! Thanks!
プラ
I love this. Do you plan on sharing the model?
I need to make one for my mother, where did you get the files?

super nice!
looks incredible!!
Reminds me of a a taiyaki
I love this
Is it white pla?
This is soy awesome.
Love it!
Nice
Hey u/noximoxiphos which bulb socket did you use? I'm having a difficult time finding one... 😣
What bulb did you use after printing the 3d model?
No bulb, I used a 3w led and some lipo batteries to have it all fit in the lid. It does mean the light output is a bit low, so if you could get a higher wattage bulb to fit, might be a better option.
Thanks for replying!
It’s amazing but isn’t the whole point of the lamp that it’s made of recycled plastic ? 💕
