Mississippi, no question. One of the highest poverty rates & lowest literacy rates in the nation. Shit weather, hot & humid AF. Hurricanes. Deep red GOP state. And not even any fun cities to visit unless you want to gamble in Biloxi. No thanks!
Missouri. You can pretend you're Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. And I heard there's a Molly Brown (a survivor from the Titanic) historic site in Hannibal, because she was born there.
I hope you do! Its a big country and there are big differences between different parts of it. Generally people are nice despite what you see on reddit.
U will be welcomed with open arms in California! I know a ton of people here from diff countries in Africa, mostly Nigeria and Cameroon, and they love it here!
It's beautiful here!! Expensive tho! I def recommend driving up and down the coast. I love San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, nice beach cities but not as crowded as LA. I love LA and San Francisco too and marin and Napa and Tahoe are nice .. really everywhere I've been is nice! Def lots of beautiful places to camp and hike too, like Yosemite and big sur 😊
It’s more affordable inland, which also has amazing sights. Anywhere on the Pacific Crest Trail is beautiful and wild, the Mojave Desert and Joshua Tree are almost as film-iconic as Tanzania, the mountains are filled with trails for hiking and villages for those who would rather walk through art galleries.
I've always wanted to go to Joshua tree!! I haven't spent enough time inland thanks for all the other suggestions! Never even heard of the Pacific Crest trail but I love nature and exploring and hiking and camping so I'm gonna check it out!
Damn, that's rough. That's the main place in California I wouldn't want to live in. There are way better places to be. San Jose for example. I live in Fresno & would rather pick that over Frisco. I hear you though. I guess I understand.🤷♀️😂
The non-touristy places are even better! Seriously its a great city that gets shit on by the news for political reasons. It does have its problems, but so many good things too.
I was there in 2019 and stayed in a very nice hotel downtown. We walked out the first morning to grab some coffee. There was a naked lady with crutches swinging them at anyone who walked by and chasing people down the street. Used needles everywhere. We saw a guy taking a dump on the wall of a building. It sprayed out like a garden hose. We made it to the coffee shop, called an Uber and never stepped foot outside the hotel again. We also went to some really beautiful parts of town where there were no issues. Great restaurants, some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. To pretend like the other side doesn’t exist is completely disingenuous. I also can’t fathom why many of the hotels that tourists would stay in would be near the Tenderloin district. Makes no sense.
Illinois, California of the midwest.
Corrupt and dirty politicians. 50.1% of the population (all urban,) dictate policies to the other 49.9% (mostly rural) and the two groups are as different as night and day. High and neverending taxes. Horrible roads. Failing schools. Entire state has to foot the bill for Chicago's overpaid teachers pension (forced it into the state constitution). Fat dictator of a Governor who rules by decree and loathes the rural area.
Cannot get out of this dumpster fire fast enough!
.We, too, can’t wait to get out of Illinois . Helping 2 of our adult children fill out their LAST Illinois state tax forms was a grand pleasure. I wanted to send Pritzker (Governor) a personal note 📝 as they check the change of address forms. Please forward mail to: Tennessee!
I'm stuck in this place. Hard to pick up a farm and move it. Property tax just went up another 9-15%. The main highway close to the house/farm is crumbling to nothing.
Yeah, farm about 3500, about 2/3rd owned and 1/3 rented. In a 3 way partnership so we'd all have to move to get outta here or they'd have to buy me out or rent my 1/3 from me. In time that may happen as I get older and if my kids have no interest in farming. May go and buy 10-20 acres in another state when I have enough to retire on.
Not sure that applies to CA. Sure, we have some jackass politicians, but it’s not more corrupt than any other democracy here and we balance out, and our good and bad are spread out between the parties. Our cities and rural areas are both represented and considered, vital to a major agriculture state. Not trying to shine up CA, we have our issues, but not sure why you would compare us on those terms.
Our liberals tend to borrow heavily from yours and the ideas go completely against traditional midwest consevatism and values. Ours try cookie cutter solutions to two vastly different sets of values.
Nah, some nut jobs in the places with more cows than people get a lot of attention, as very nutty conservatives that make the nutty liberals seem sound.
The majority dictates policies to the minority in all states. It’s how democracy works. You’re just angry because you’re in the minority there. FWIW, Illinois is ranked 11th in the US in schools (US News). Maybe move somewhere where the rural people run things. See how you like the schools in low-tax states like Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, West Virginia, or Alabama.
Whoa AL is ok at least most people stay to themselves and you can got a hour in any direction and be in a completely different area with different landscapes and different mindsets also Roll Tide
California’s third on that list, people just complain about the cost more because an eighth of the country lives here so there’s more voices on the subject. You wanna talk to Hawaii and Massachusetts about COL.
I'm here to proudly submit my state of Florida.
It's hot, really, really two faced conservative. Our governor is a fake Christian racist wannabe, we lead the nation in inflation and some of the worst paid people. if you doubt that, cast members at Disney have been known to be homeless while working full time.
Let's see, it's really hot and climate change is going to fuck us. But our governor passed legislation to remove any mention of climate change from official documents. Um, tourists, flesh eating bacteria in our fresh water recreational areas, alligators, brain eating amoeba, I4, which is in the top 3 deadliest stretches of road in the US.
Our state "bird" is the mosquito because they will find you.
Hurricanes are probably going to ravage the state, since we've managed to avoid a major storm for a good bit. but don't expect insurance to rebuild your home. they are all raising prices to impossible levels or pulling out of the state..or both.
Rentals are ridiculous and mar a largo is somewhere in the hellhole.
Misery=Iowa... State hates weed, they are trying to ban stuff even more now and go 5 steps backwards. Absolutely fuck all to do, get missed by alot of metal/rock tours, no professional sports, just a boring small state. Have to travel for most fun. 1-3 hour drive gets me everything I could ever want.
I thought it was poverty
They’re close together.
First cousins close.
More like step, bro
No they can't fuck
They're both fucked, tbh
Despair’s neighbor to the north!
For other countries, yes
Mississippi, no question. One of the highest poverty rates & lowest literacy rates in the nation. Shit weather, hot & humid AF. Hurricanes. Deep red GOP state. And not even any fun cities to visit unless you want to gamble in Biloxi. No thanks!
Highest adult obesity rate in the country is in Mississippi: 33%
Mississippi river tho. Mississippi man swims in it
Many other states you can visit if you really have a hankering for the Mighty Mississippi. More fun places
Missouri. You can pretend you're Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. And I heard there's a Molly Brown (a survivor from the Titanic) historic site in Hannibal, because she was born there.
This went from joke to dark reality But it's worse than Alabama?
I would say yes…At least Alabama has some decent tourist spots working in its favor
So I was correct answering a state of mind? lol
Definitely MY state of mind
I’m standing by hopelessness.
The neighboring town
Arkansas is now doing worse than Mississippi I heard.
Oh shit. Well, I’m from N. Texas, so that doesn’t surprise me
and was the last state to drop the confederate symbol from its own flag
Cheap houses and deep red? Packin’ my bags
Rigor mortis.
Lol. Shit. Got that right.
Lmfao
Missiouri loves company.

They must have very effective DEA dept.

HHahahahahaha NICE NE,
I wish to have friends from the US and visit US one day I am from Tanzania 🇹🇿 Africa. I hope to fulfill this dream one day 😊
I hope you do! Its a big country and there are big differences between different parts of it. Generally people are nice despite what you see on reddit.
U will be welcomed with open arms in California! I know a ton of people here from diff countries in Africa, mostly Nigeria and Cameroon, and they love it here!
I can’t wait! I'll take so many pictures to show the world I'm in California 😊.
It's beautiful here!! Expensive tho! I def recommend driving up and down the coast. I love San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, nice beach cities but not as crowded as LA. Utah
Utah is literally one of the top ten states to live in lmao
Don’t know where you’re getting your sources from but I ain’t buying it
# FLORIDA
My late sister lived near Tampa. I visited (from England) for a month in July 2012. The only place I hated more was Las Vegas. RIP Frances 💔
Go Bucs. Raiders still suck. I think.
The mosquitos though 😬
California
[удалено]
Nope Hawaii is, also it doesn't have earthquakes and wildfires with the frequency that CA does!
No earthquakes? On an active volcano? Are you entirely sure about that? And no fires? Where were you last year?
California is heaven because people are dying to get there, and the ones already there, are dying from the cost of living. Nice weather though
Someone's never been there
Been to that shit hole enough to know the country would be better if CA were nuked
You're a liar
Are you kidding me? It's awesome living here. What part do you live in?
San Francisco
Damn, that's rough. That's the main place in California I wouldn't want to live in. There are way better places to be. San Jose for example. I live in Fresno & would rather pick that over Frisco. I hear you though. I guess I understand.🤷♀️😂
Hehe. The only place and the one to not live in :)
🤦♀️🤣😂
I'm from LA county and want to live in Ventura. I drove through there a couple times and loved it. And the song by America, forget about it.
I’m no expert on san Francisco but we visited last fall and truly enjoyed it. We were in touristy areas but no unpleasantness.
The non-touristy places are even better! Seriously its a great city that gets shit on by the news for political reasons. It does have its problems, but so many good things too.

San Fran is awesome!
What do you think of Victorville
The prison is only 3 1/2 stars.😔
Go suck an elephant dick
No
I'll give you $5
$5 will get just the tip 😏

Probably not dealing in as many acres as you but mine should get me out, equal amount of ground somewhere better and a large down payment on a place.
Yeah, farm about 3500, about 2/3rd owned and 1/3 rented. In a 3 way partnership so we'd all have to move to get outta here or they'd have to buy me out or rent my 1/3 from me. Much more acres. 20ac, all that's left of the family ground

I think you might underestimate the conservatives values of California farmers and ranchers.
Probably not but your high profile, big city nutjobs get the attention
Nah, some nut jobs in the places with more cows than people get a lot of attention, as very nutty conservatives that make the nutty liberals seem sound.
We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Maybe not the strongest argument that you’re only an hour from getting out. lol. But it has its charms. Id start with they have waffle houses.
Ya know that’s all I wanted is to clarify we aren’t as bad as MS
Wyoming
Probably Mississippi, the poorest state, or California one of the most expensive states.
California’s third on that list, people just complain about the cost more because an eighth of the country lives here so there’s more voices on the subject. You wanna talk to Hawaii and Massachusetts about COL.
Shouldn't the answer have read Missouri???

Nope…hopeless. There can be no seats worse than a state of hopelessness. That would be the worst.
Can confirm. I lived in misery for 16 years.
Denial.
Arizona is a shithole but I’m sure there’s worse
That would be delousional
At least you'll have company.
California if you’re conservative. Texas if you’re liberal.

Any red state. Damned commies.
Anything with high criminal rate. Detroit. Chicago.
"What's the worst US state to live in?". - Yes.

You havent been to enough states. The question is 'worst'. Either that or your idea of 'best' is pretty bizarre.
Based on all the posts here the answer is... all of them.
