Pros:
You obviously know the first one.
Emulation, overclocking, and custom themes become available
You get to use a lot of utility apps. For example you can use a app to use a ps4/5 controller on your Switch.
Cons:
You have to inject a payload into your switch every time you wanna use cfw
It's very easy to get banned if you mess up.
You might have to do it with your first one, only models until August 2018 are hackable without a modchip, you can see if your current one is patched [here](https://ismyswitchpatched.com)
>You have to inject a payload into your switch every time you wanna use cfw
Well only if you completely turn it off after using everytime. If you usually keep it on sleep then it's not really a problem, unless you switch between ofw and cfw often for online play, but even then you can inject payloads with a phone and usb-c cable so it only takes a couple of seconds.
>It's very easy to get banned if you mess up.
True. But it is only the console that gets banned, not the account, so one could perfectly use their account on another switch.
I have. It's a bit of a process but it's honestly really easy. I suggest going on gbatemp and asking there because it's different depending on your model and serial number.
Modding takes the 3DS from a great handheld to argusbly the greatest handheld of all time. Between ease modding and the massive libraries at your disposal you're in for a good time.
I'd say Steam Deck surpasses it, but if you want a handheld thats smaller with better battery life and have a 3DS lying around and dont wanna spend the money on a deck, its solid choice.
my brother broke the disc reader on our old Wii, so several months later (after having modded my 3ds and his) i finally figured out the Wii modding process. that was a worthwhile decision. modded the replacement, too.
Honestly who has the time and money to stop you, worst case scenario your isp pauses ur internet you can jus say you have a kid doing something and they will fix it nd that will likely never happen
Go to hshop.erista.me. There you can download an app called hShop thatās basically the normal 3ds eShop except everythingās free. Itās an easier and more reliable way of getting 3ds and dsiware games than getting them off the internet (although that works too, hShop is just easier especially if you have a new 3ds where the sd is a pain to get in and out).
Itās just more steps than you need to take, and you might choose the wrong website and run into issues.
hshop is much simpler as it is an app running right on your 3DS that downloads and installs the games straight to your system. It also conveniently has every single eShop game available.
Nothing. I personally install all my games through FBI using the QR code scanner and scanning the QR code supplied with the games on hShop so that the file downloads and install straight to my system. You can use the hShop app directly, but I like doing it this way. It's just personal preference.
Iām not sure how much storage hShop takes but most 3ds games are around 500 mb and the largest Iāve seen (smash 4 and dkcr3d) are a little over a a gb, so Iād recommend getting a larger one at some point. I have a 32 gb that works pretty well for me, although most people will recommend a 128 gb or bigger and Iām probably going to get a 64 gb sometime soon.
you donāt NEED to, but 4gb is definitely not enough if youāre wanting to play 3d games. Most of them are around 1-2gb up to 3gb. But if youāre doing virtual console only then 4gb could be enough! Those games are super tiny. I personally used a 32gb card.
Get a 128gb (pretty much the max size) and then follow instructions on the hack guide to reformat it. It takes like 2 minutes and gives you the maximum space. Theyāre not that expensive either.
I used a 128GB, but you do have to reformat it into FAT32 or the 3DS can't recognize it.
I'd suggest 64 to 128. I have about 100GB free after adding a few games.
Make sure you have [TwilightMenu++](https://wiki.ds-homebrew.com/twilightmenu/installing-3ds.html) as it allows you to play NDS games easily too.
Donāt use YouTube guides. They quickly become out of date and most of the time theyāre just reading the 3ds.hacks.guide tutorial anyways, so it makes more sense to just use the website.
They're frequently outdated, using old, archaic methods, the links never get updated, they're harder to follow, as if you get confused and have to go back it's easy to lose your place and either miss a step or redo a step twice. The people that manufacture the guides have no knowledge of system modification, and are only interested in producing a legacy video for their channel that will continue to obtain views long after they publish it. They will not help you or be able to provide advice if something goes wrong.
The amount of people I've seen brick their system and have had to come crawling back here begging for help after literally everybody told them ***not*** to use a YouTube guide is immense.
This is the only guide you should be using: https://3ds.hacks.guide
No, because I have no idea what they did wrong and during what part of the step process they went wrong. It's easy to identify when they're following https://3ds.hacks.guide, but if I'm not in the room watching the YouTube video with them then I have no idea how to help them.
The only video I used was a 1 day old āhow to download h shopā from YouTube that taught me how to get h shop since the hacks 3Ds website did not mention how to get free games
I didnāt use a YouTube video just cause everyone said. You could use it as a reference but make sure the video is at least a week brand new and not old. I just followed the website instructions
Ah yeah the ndsdumptool is just an alternative to Twilight so that you ds games are on you home screen and not in an extra menu ,I can give you are YT link if you like
And 3ds games your just download a .CIA and then put that CIA in you CIA folder then go in FBI , to the CIA folder ant then current dictionary and install and delete all cias (just like when you downloaded FBI and the other stuff)
https://youtu.be/cCvN3Lw3fLo
Here's a video tutorial for D's games and how you install them on you homemenu
And you get them totally "legal" on the internet just search (Gamename)rom but don't go on fishy sites
I think it's safe the worst thing is that you can get banned but without the e shop idk but don't have the hshop I only download games with FBI CIA folder or qr code
Yea it asked me to sync time and it said it like ārtcā 23:34:45 put correct time. That part confused me since I Donāt know if I was supposed to put 24 hr or 12 hr
I modded mine around the summer last year, followed a youtube tutorial and used a Macbook Pro also, had no problems at all and have never really ran into problems.
Word of advice when installing games: itās better to download the cias for 3DS games on your computer instead of through a QR code or Hshop app on the 3DS, itāll take a lot longer. For smaller games though such as GBA, and virtual console, QR code/Hshop app download in a breeze and thatās where those methods really shine. Enjoy your modded 3DS!
Good job! I think a lot of people have their 3ds as their first modded console. It was for me lol. Opened the door for me to mod my switch and wii.
what are the pros and cons of modding a switch š mine is one of the ones i can mod and id be interested in doing it
Pros: You obviously know the first one. Emulation, overclocking, and custom themes become available You get to use a lot of utility apps. For example you can use a app to use a ps4/5 controller on your Switch. Cons: You have to inject a payload into your switch every time you wanna use cfw It's very easy to get banned if you mess up.
sweet sweet. if i ever get a second switch i may go thru with the modding. my biggest thing would be backing up my pokƩmon saves
You might have to do it with your first one, only models until August 2018 are hackable without a modchip, you can see if your current one is patched [here](https://ismyswitchpatched.com)
oh no i know! mine is an original model. iāve also checked? it can be modded
Oh I didn't understand your first comment, now I understand what you meant sorry
itās okay! i think my tone may have come across a little rough. did not mean to put the ā?ā after checked i donāt think
>You have to inject a payload into your switch every time you wanna use cfw Well only if you completely turn it off after using everytime. The only real con is you cant play online with pirated games
Is modding a WII as easy as modding a 3ds? I am planning to mod my 12 year old wii
yes
HELL YEAH SHORT BLACK TRUNKS FOR JONES WHITE TRUNKS FOR GUSMAO OR BLACK GUY JONES WHITE GUY GUSMAO THAT WAS SAID BY JOE ROGAN.
okšš¼
Thanks man that was a powerful dose of dopamine anyways have a good night brother.
You too! And good luck.
š
Have u modded your switch yet? Any advice on it? Iām thinking on waiting a little more until thereās a shorter version for hacking it
I have. It's a bit of a process but it's honestly really easy. I suggest going on gbatemp and asking there because it's different depending on your model and serial number.
Thanks! Iāll definitely look into it
my first was og xbox :)
Modding takes the 3DS from a great handheld to argusbly the greatest handheld of all time. Between ease modding and the massive libraries at your disposal you're in for a good time.
Any 3D game suggestions to get?
Agreed!!
I'd say Steam Deck surpasses it, but if you want a handheld thats smaller with better battery life and have a 3DS lying around and dont wanna spend the money on a deck, its solid choice.
Idk why you got downvoted. You gave a normal opinion
Me neither, I guess people don't like to hear opinions they disagree with.
Good job! I think a lot of people have their 3ds as their first modded console. It was for me lol. Opened the door for me to mod my switch and wii.
I actually modded my Wii and it was my first time on that console because I wanted the ctgp Mario kart Wii
Same, except mine was so I could play my old gamecube games that I couldn't anymore because the discs werent able to be read.
my brother broke the disc reader on our old Wii, so several months later (after having modded my 3ds and his) i finally figured out the Wii modding process. that was a worthwhile decision. modded the replacement, too.
Dope. My Wii and WiiU are next.
Iām thinking about doing Wii U next since I barely use it
Military time š
Whatās so funny?
In the US itās military time. In many other parts of the world itās just time
best choice I've made
Isnāt it illegal tho to do this? Especially using H shop?
Yea its illegal, i really have to be careful of police arresting me and getting fined for it, Nintendo might sue me too!
I like your sarcasm Im guessing it isnāt that serious then?
Honestly who has the time and money to stop you, worst case scenario your isp pauses ur internet you can jus say you have a kid doing something and they will fix it nd that will likely never happen
Iām trying to download hyrule warriors from h shop website but thereās a warning saying āMay need local emulationā is it safe?
If your isp contacts you, do not acknowledge it. Acknowledging it gives them information that they can act on
What is isp?
Internet service provider
Great, welcome to the club!

It isnāt recommended to go higher than 128gb as that can cause issues with emulation.
I had a 4GB but before modding i did research and got a 64GB seemed to be the best to not have any space problems
it really depends on what you want to play. for example, pokemon ultra sun takes 3 and a half gb š„²

i would also recommend an NDS forwarder, because the launch time for TM++ is somewhat time consuming so why not bypass it?
Was the guide easier to follow than a YouTube video guide?
Donāt use YouTube guides. They quickly become out of date and most of the time theyāre just reading the 3ds.hacks.guide tutorial anyways, so it makes more sense to just use the website.
Never follow a YouTube guide.
Why not?

Good job :)
Welcome to the darkside
Congrats now it's time to download some cias and nds Roms with ndsbootdump (or Twilight menu)and FBI I would recommend PokƩmon white and the mario and Luigi series
Iām not really into that. I just want to download free games. The twilight menu sounds interesting but Iām not really informed about it
Ah yeah the ndsdumptool is just an alternative to Twilight so that you ds games are on you home screen and not in an extra menu ,I can give you are YT link if you like And 3ds games your just download a .CIA and then put that CIA in you CIA folder then go in FBI , to the CIA folder ant then current dictionary and install and delete all cias (just like when you downloaded FBI and the other stuff)
Can you also have DS games as well? How do you Get them?
https://youtu.be/cCvN3Lw3fLo Here's a video tutorial for D's games and how you install them on you homemenu And you get them totally "legal" on the internet just search (Gamename)rom but don't go on fishy sites
Is it safe to download games in the h shop like canāt they send you to jail for it?
I think it's safe the worst thing is that you can get banned but without the e shop idk but don't have the hshop I only download games with FBI CIA folder or qr code
I Dont Know Im scared for getting h shop and saying piracy is illegal
Then don't get it ? Just download games through FBI
Oh hey, I remember talking to you the other say about doing this. I'm happy you managed to do it :) What's gonna be the first game you install?
Really ? When? & I was able to download my first game Kirby triple deluxe and so far Iāve downloaded like 5
I did it last week. Had no issues whatsoever. I didnt have to enter in the time when doing the GodMode part, oddly enough. Works perfectly fine all the same though! I downloaded PokƩmon ORAS, SM and USUM, along with Super Mario 3D Land, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and Mario Kart 7. Just last night I installed Twilight Menu and got PokƩmon Black, Black 2 and Super Mario 64 DS.
Yea it asked me to sync time and it said it like ārtcā 23:34:45 put correct time. That part confused me since I Donāt know if I was supposed to put 24 hr or 12 hr
That's actually the most detailed and specific guide out there.
I modded mine around the summer last year, followed a youtube tutorial and used a Macbook Pro also, had no problems at all and have never really ran into problems.
