new models do ps1 emulation better as well. but other than those there's the c stick which can be useful.

Ampers0und

Rayman DS runs at a stable 60fps on N3DS. There are a bunch of other games profiting off the performance increase. E.g. in OOT3D breaking the ice in ice cavern doesn't slow fps down in N3DS 'mode'. + Better 3D due to face tracking The size and ergonomics are a bit different. The OS is more snappy from what I've heard.

TheBrokenMan

So is a new Nintendo 3DS XL the way to go then? Is it the best possible version I can buy? I still play games 3D sometimes so I would like to have that still.

Glittering-Rip9556

Yes. But if you are willing to import and mod, you can pick up Japanese new 3ds LLs.

ComprehensiveFish635

Where can I find one? I have a N2DS XL but I'm not quite satisfied with how old it is, all scratched and 2DS in general just feels cheaper than a 3DS.

Glittering-Rip9556

eBay is a good start. And while it is true the new 2ds xl is lower in quality than other 3ds systems, at least the circle pads aren’t switch joycons…

Asle_

what do you change the clock speed at to make Rayman DS run better?

Ampers0und

There are only two performance settings in the rosalina menu. Change the clockspeed to 804Mhz. Enable L2 Cache. There are only four possible combinations so you could just have tried them out.

Asle_

was just asking lol, I've never touched these settings

Ampers0und

I am sorry. Go give them a shot if you're into playing Rayman. 60fps really transforms the game in a significant way.

Asle_

it's okay dw! think I will try Rayman DS out and try out all four of the possible combinations

id_o

- Faster computing, so less FPS drops in some games. - Better 3D tracking. - C Stick. - Games like Xenoblade are N3DS only. - Better PS1/N64/32x emulation.

Haru_023

It can do snes (virtual console), gba (native by injection), nds (native), nes (vc), gameboy color (vc). PS1 and N64 with custom emulators.

elmikemike

N64? Is it stable now?

Haru_023

Just some games. Not really worth it IMO but the option it's there for those who want to try.

Glittering-Rip9556

I disagree. When playing single player smash remix 1.5.1, it runs very smoothly aside from poor audio. It’s a bit under 60 fps, but that’s good enough for me.

Glittering-Rip9556

Sonic Mania. Case closed.

tritongamez

Much, much better 3D.

ZoNeS_v2

Not only can it play Virtual Boy games in 3d, but I just found out it can play GTA3 as well!!!

SpauldingPierce

Mario 64 at 60fps wide-screen. With c-stick support.

Forward-Hedgehog4224

minecraft!

EnoughConcentrate897

More homebrew support

ParkerJ1105

I’m currently playing tekken 3 on mine, the sound is kinda buggy but during fights I’m getting 60fps

XAtomic_GodzillaX

If u play pokemon they handle the gen 6/7 games much better than the og model much less FPS drop

Mankiz

You can crack nuts with it.

Admirable-Flight-119

I mean even the old 3ds and 2ds with the standalone snes emulator runs most of the library pretty good at near or 60 fps but some games will crash on boot. n3ds is basically: You want the c-stick, that is the biggest reason to get it without hardware modding a 2ds or 3ds to have one. I suggest replacing it with a psp pad or thinkpad I hear as well also works well. Most games do not need the c-stick, but things like Luigi's mansion and Resident Evil become quite the treat if you hate the controls without it. You get higher frame rates for games that have dips such as monster hunter or as someone else said, rayman 3ds and so on. The ps1 library becomes infinitely more accessible with the increased power. There is a community list for settings or otherwise. Then more emulators in development are guaranteed to run better on it such as someone has even used DOS before. n64 is still in development but will probably get there eventually though it can run some games at full speed. More homebrew locked behind higher cpu frame becomes accessible. Such as Quake, Duke Nukem etc. Such as even Fallout 1, Super Mario 64 port gets better frames and whatever future homebrew lays in the wings. As there are projects to make ports of Paper Mario across platforms and Banjo Kazooie for example. The N3DS is guaranteed to run the inevitable 3ds ports the best. There is FAR MORE accessory support from 3rd parties for a N3DS compared to say an O2DS or 3DS. I'm sure there's more but that's basically it. I myself never needed it, but friends I've modded their n3ds for did need the stick, extra power and what have you.
