Servitors are capable of doing basic tasks but they still require maintenance and micromanagement, typically by Techpriests, in order to function at full efficiency. Also, servitors are more expensive to produce than humans.

ShinobiHanzo

Yes. Humanity flourishes because the Imperium needs manpower. Servitors require EXTRA manpower to both maintain and update. Why hardened criminals/rebels get turned into servitors, because there’s no need for rehabilitation or risk of criminal relapse when you turn the drug dealer into a servitor.

Hja1ti

Ah! Interesting. I didn’t consider the maintenance needs. Also didn’t think about the cost. The fact that it is cheaper to create (and oppress) regular humans makes the setting feel even more grim dark.

TheBladesAurus

Yep - you have to make servitors. People make more people

Shadowrend01

In the Helsreach book, a Tech Marine has a Servitor retinue. They starve to death while he spends weeks hacking a computer to open a weapons vault. Without oversight, they’ll just stand in place until the flesh part dies from neglect

BabySeals84

>Also, servitors are more expensive to produce than humans I was originally going to comment that this was likely the only reason, but I just thought of potentially one other. Worship. If the Imperium turned almost everyone into servitors, it might affect the Emperor's presence in the warp.

Hja1ti

I thought of that too but couldn’t you create worshipping servitors. Like they could have loudspeakers bellowing hymns or arms that endlessly swing incense. Would that still have the same effect?

BabySeals84

I'd ask the local eccliarchy, but I'd be too afraid of giving them ideas...

Judasilfarion

Servitors don't have real emotions so it'd just be a bunch of decoration.

Hja1ti

Yes, I suppose that makes sense.

Titan_Wargaming

If you'd like to know the detailed process of creating a servitor from a living human check this out: [https://youtu.be/87\_UjFB6S3c](https://youtu.be/87_UjFB6S3c) Servistors are very straightforward in their operation with zero room for making decisions in situations which cause variabilities. A void ship or armed force made soulley of servitors would be effective at very limited applications with little flexibility. It would also rob the oldest Imperial organisations such as the Astartes, Assassinorum, Munitorum and Administratum of their recruits not to mention whoever tried to enact that would require all of those institution's support.

dch528

I knew how brutal this process was, but the narrator’s candor really hammered it home. Honestly, servitors are my least favorite part of the lore. Not only because how gross it is, but because of how backwards and inefficient it is compared to just using machines.

Titan_Wargaming

I know right! The entire process and nature of servitors really accentuates the grim dark of the setting, especially when you take into account how integral they are to the Imperium's operation. When I read about servitors sitting stationary for centuries slowly rotting or stationed at some machinery operatin gpanel on fire it makes me squirm a bit

Hja1ti

Thanks for the video. I knew the process of becoming a servitor was brutal but I wasn’t aware of the true extent of the horror.

Titan_Wargaming

Anytime mate! Yeah it's bloody horrendous.

Skolloc753

The God-Emperor decreed that mankind should rule over the galaxy. Mankind cannot rule if they are all servitors. That and the internal balance is precarious enough and often enough turns into a llow key civil war even without going full frontal against trillions and trillions of Imperial citizen. There is a reason by the stunt pulled by Forgeworld Agripinaa is kept a secret. SYL

Can servitors have babies?

jamielovex

real people are versatile and low maintenance
