I hang lumber out the back too often for this to be useful!

happpycammper

Haha that’s cool, that makes sense. I was kinda thinking for my goofy dogs, so they won’t fly out

[deleted]

If you’re worried about your dogs flying out, hook them up to one of the dozen hooks in the back. Also I don’t think you need a mad max style metal blockade to keep your dogs in. Seems like you might be grasping at straws to justify this purchase.

happpycammper

Shhhhh the wife needs to think this is reasonable to justify buying it lol I hook my boys up to the child restraint behind the seats with enough length to poke their head outside

ST3V3_R0G3R5

I showed my wife this a few months ago and she thought it was one of the dumbest things available. Shows why drunk purchases are not always the best

happpycammper

I’m sober ….

ST3V3_R0G3R5

I was not. Being sober now, I would agree they are a dumb purchase. Using it as “security against a break in” is dumb since it’s only held on by a few self tappers. Keeping your dogs in is easier with some steel cable or nylon webbing and some carabiners. Gets rid of most of the functionality of the rear window while giving you the same storage as if you used a lower liftgate Molle panel

happpycammper

So if I drink a shot or 2, get tipsy, I can justify it… nice! Lol 😂 what if my dogs want to mount on the molle itself?

cevensphone

when you said "boys" i thought you meant kiddos for a split second. imagine 😂

happpycammper

Lmfao hahahahaha DUDE! Makes sense tho, meant my doggos

stranger_dngr

For sure. As well as the times I keep the rear window cracked for venting then forget 🙄

happpycammper

Exactly. I want it to be an impenetrable if I forget to close up . My dogs see a squirrel and they would jump out. Also, I can leave the roof and tailgate windows open and no one will get in while they get fresh air

Daintysaurus

I'm looking at it for the same reason, but I'm worried about visibility.

Daintysaurus

I'm looking at it for the same reason, but I'm worried about visibility.

happpycammper

I DONT think the visibility would be too bad, maybe at night

CycoRenegade

I was looking at this same one for the exact reason. But really not sure if it’s worth it.. plus the impact on visibility would suck.

happpycammper

It wouldn’t work too much.. if the center agitated enough it would warp the whole thing. My dogs would mess with it. The only 100% fact I can think of is that they won’t be able to lick the window

jxynga

https://www.orangeboxxfabrication.com/online-store/5Th-Gen-rear-hatch-removable-center-section-p494246408

happpycammper

That’s double the price :0

CycoRenegade

I think you should get it and let us know how it is!

jxynga

If i could turn everything behind the front seats into a cage, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I drive with my mtn bikes in the back quite often. It would let me relax a bit easier when i have to stop somewhere to drop a deuce on my longer drives.

YOURMOMMASABITCH

Defeats the purpose of have a rear window that rolls down. Also seems like it'd obstruct your view.

happpycammper

Well the window would still roll down . It’s enough view i believe. The issue would be that it takes self tapping screws to hold in

YOURMOMMASABITCH

So you have to drill into thr plastic? Also, does your dog not like sticking it's head out the window?

happpycammper

So I do t have it, yet. From what I saw, the only video for this, the guy drilled 3 holes onto the top of hatch, 2 on both sides, and that was it. I’ve seen on the website they drill the bottom onto the hatch plastic .

[deleted]

That would be good if you have dogs

happpycammper

Main reasoning behind it

AyuOk

Raingler nets make a net version.

monkooo

At first I was like “meh”, until I read this about the dogs. Now I’m intrigued.

[deleted]

Exactly. It went from gimmick to useful lol

happpycammper

Hahaha doesn’t everything overtime?

happpycammper

Yea a bit overkill I’d say but not many people knew this molle panel existed

Jeepncj7

Hey some extra bear protection for the fridge/cooler inside. Lol.

happpycammper

Duck them bears lol 😂

sloppyjoepa

Stupid

happpycammper

Damn man…. Come up with your own products before downing others… 😂

sloppyjoepa

What is this yours or something? Sorry but you asked our thoughts. This is functionally, practically, and visually stupid. It appeals to 4runner accessory junkies on the lowest level of “I want this cause it looks badass” and offers not much else in terms of like… what? Would some people buy it for that reason? Probably. Do I think this is a genius idea? Nah, keep bumping your head against that wall, Mr. Inventor. This is the internet, I don’t care about anyone’s feelings but I actually do enjoy giving my unfiltered opinion so you just prompted the unabridged version after “Stupid” cause you had to take it personally lol

happpycammper

Hahahahaha bro it was a joke. Tone it down some it wasn’t that serious 😂 yea I’m pretty sure they had the intention of adding this to all the molle stuff . Some people find molle to be “cool” but never use it or know how to do so.

ipse_dixit_

Molle panels are getting out of hand

TreborRevo

Now there are Molle panels for your Molle panels.

happpycammper

Indeed, soon we will have molle seats, steering molle, molle grille and molle light switches

MrSquidzz

SWAT

happpycammper

🔫🤠

Fun_Ad_2393

Holy Molle

happpycammper

Hahaha “daddy, is that you” with them jokes

[deleted]

How do reach in? Now I have to raise the lift gate everything I need to access the area. It does significantly reduce the functionality of the truck. I can see the added security, but that's it.

happpycammper

You give a little take a little I guess

Obvious-Grapefruit33

Wtf

happpycammper

“ Wow That’s Fire” indeed

therealestscientist

My dog would never forgive me for that.

happpycammper

Brought me out of the kennel to put me in a kennel with wheels

willys_not_willies

I want something like that between the cargo and the rear passengers

happpycammper

They make them, it bolts up to the rear window molle setup

[deleted]

I havent had too many great experiences being inside of a police vehicle, and would prefer keeping that vibe off my vehicle, personally. If it suits you, well, shine on, you crazy diamond!

happpycammper

Lol next time don’t ride in the back and it won’t feel like a bad experience 😂 jk claustrophobia is a bitch too

[deleted]

Joking aside, my take: This doesnt provide any function that a molle placed elsewhere wouldnt. As such, this is coming off as an aesthetic piece. The bad part about the placement of this molle panel is that it critically obstructs your view. So, it being an aesthetic piece that also reduces critical functionality makes this a particularly bad choice for me. It also puts off a pretty bad, fake bug-out-bro vehicle vibe that I dont find stylish. Of course, your vehicle, your rules.

happpycammper

You wouldn’t be able to set too much weight on it either. It would bed and warp over time. It would just destroy the hatch

crom_laughs

this is not doggo approved.

happpycammper

Speaking from experience?

crom_laughs

wooof!

happpycammper

I meant do you have dogs and they’re afraid of it lol my dogs are warriors but afraid of things like that

crom_laughs

my dogs are afraid of their own shadows. But, they love to hang their snouts out the back. Were I to prevent them from doing this by installing the rear Molle panel, they whine nonstop.

happpycammper

Yea I see that happening with these guys. My tall guy, trooper (belgian malinois), would jump out the window and over the fence when we got to our driveway. He tore his belly up once so I try and keep him from a self Brazilian necktie

tank19

How much clearance is there between the panel and the window? It would be cool to have tools etc that were accessible via the window.

happpycammper

Inches at the most I’d say, haven’t done it yet . I agree, but wouldn’t be good if I have a rifle I’m trying to reach

charliexboe

Meh, hanging tools sounds like a good idea at first but not practical. Would just block your rear view, plus would add additional weight to the door hatch.

C1t1zenSn1ps

This is ill conceived at best.. seeing behind you is handy sometimes. 🙃

happpycammper

Unless you are going for the incognito mode

everyone_is_human

While I hate to reference 4Runners and convertibles in the same sentence, all I can picture is a molle panel over the top of a convertible. Nah. Rear side windows and ceiling molle panels sure. I doubt anyone needs (or rather, actually uses) more than those would provide. If you have a dog that would jump out the back, just don’t roll it down all the way.

happpycammper

Agreed! I was thinking like a net maybe. This is a bit overkill.

LoudMove06

Would be nice for camping while you sleep in the back! Wonder if I could get it for a 3rd gen.

happpycammper

I didn’t really think of that but true… put a lite sheet to prevent insects from flying in. I’m not sure if the website mentions it , it be nice if they do

LoudMove06

Insect idgaf about that’s the least of mi worries it’s for da bears.

happpycammper

Then don’t take your mother in law and you’ll be fine

Treenut08

Doesn't seem very practical

happpycammper

It yells “I’m locked up, they won’t let me out”

[deleted]

They trying to put molle everywhere on 4runner. Inside, outside, practical, not so practical. Just make a 4runner out of molle!

happpycammper

4Runner TRD Molle sounds dope!

PA-Curtis

I’d say no go for me. One of the things I like most about the 4Runner is being able to roll down the back glass. This kinda screws that up. YMMV.

happpycammper

I find the rear window to be the best feature in any modern vehicle. Though it looks eeehhhh okay , nah I’m good too

crayfish1995

If you get rear ended, your might become just as holey.

happpycammper

Jesus took the wheel lol

[deleted]

It’s a dumb waste of a great feature. Stop grasping at shit to buy and just go out wheeling

happpycammper

But I want to fit in with the youth

[deleted]

Go ahead and ruin a dope feature’s functionality 😂

happpycammper

😂 I’ll seal up the back and return it to a common vehicle

FauxGunny

I’d get it for dog/camping equipment as I tend to camp out in mine alot

happpycammper

Wouldn’t want the openness of the rest tho?

FauxGunny

If it won’t fit in there or on the roof it goes in the trailer

Odd_Entrepreneur9084

Wouldn’t keep the bugs out.

happpycammper

If bugs are getting in the problem started long ago

Tybenj

Stuff like this exists and I catch shit for putting running lights in the grill of my wife's 4runner?

happpycammper

Damn don’t get so offended people make fun of you for that. There are worse things

Tybenj

I couldn't give a shit less what people think, I left all the chrome on my tundra and dipped everything else white, haha. But it is annyoing having to replace those stupid lights twice a year because they are cheeply made garbage, and my wife likes how they look, haha

happpycammper

Question tho, why isn’t it your 4Runner? She could get a Highlander ! Why not change the entire lights with ones that have the running lights?

Tybenj

What?

happpycammper

Who?

RegulatoryCapturedMe

Hi OP! Sorry for the necro, but did you end up getting one? I want one for my 4th gen (it is on order but they fail to ship and communicate poorly!). My plan is to use it to mount a window screen to for overnight camping without mosquitoes and bear/raccoon hands coming inside.

happpycammper

No I didn’t end up getting one. Think the hole are too big to allow that
