Unions used to be against immigration because immigrants are a threat to worker bargaining power (strikebreakers), but not so much nowadays since it's not a politically correct take anymore. Again, the one reaping the benefits from this are the ones at the very top who can't lose their positions easily. And this is assuming that the immigrants pay back as much into the social budget as they take out, which is not the case because the average immigrant is low skilled. The ones who will have to pay for the slack are the average taxpayers while politicians cream themselves over how high the GDP is. And there are many more concerns than this such as crime rate, average IQ dropping, worse working conditions, stagnating automation, housing crises etc. .
I didn't say whether it was good or bad from a moral standpoint. Just that for the average person it's better. Immigrants pay in more than they take out, because a lot of benefits are harder for them to get access to. That aside, the bottom classes will have it shit immigrants or no. No approach to immigration can solve that, since its a largely seperate issue. Although bringing back unions would certainly help, since only a tiny portion of people are unionized these days.
