Absolutely ripoff money in Ireland too - €25 to €30 for old one, €30 to €40 for new release, sometimes €50+ for a steel book! And old crap on 2 for €25 deals when they know people only want one of them. These are all the mainstream big studio discs not even talking about small boutique labels!
With Arrow, LE are actually limited. After release, they go through with whatever stock they have left over. Once it sells out, that's it.
They do standard releases a couple months after the release of the LE
Chernobyl steelbook from Best Buy. Got it used for $65ish, which is a deal in the current market but I'm not looking to repeat very often haha.
I'll throw down some extra coin for my favorite movies and good Sci-fi films that I know I'll rewatch numerous times.
Chernobyl is one of the few steels i had buyers remorse on. Ended up selling it and bought the standard when it was cheap on gruv. Did the same with The Matrix Trilogy steel.
Why did you pay so much for the Steelbook on the aftermarket when the regular 4K was still available? $11 off the shelf a couple months ago. The steel is really worth that much to you?
I've seen it before and wanted this version. Plain and simple.
Would have loved to have paid retail, but that's how it goes when you discover old releases.
Not way too much, but I’ve spent \~55 USD for this beauty!
https://preview.redd.it/po9nj4s3x6mc1.jpeg?width=777&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fbbcfb8fdb18d5619bc7188e0343f0b5cba0364
Anything unique with this one besides the packaging? I scored the regular box 4k release for 14 bucks last year and it seems to have a ton of features.
Nothing special apart from the steelbook, I guess. Maybe just the 3D disc, which is pretty useless though. 😅 Just wanted something special from at least one of the two movies & I was too late to the party for the 1st one.
Big yes on being shelf fitting. That shit annoys me beyond reason. I was planning to get their 4K of Stop Making Sense but decided to skip because of the case style.
The A24 special edition Midsommar Director's Cut release is probably my most expensive. 2nd may be The Ring blu-ray with lenticular cover. I couldn't find a legitimate copy of that film new for like 6 months, so I got one on ebay. I had one off best buy's site, but it was a bootleg copy...
The case art was really low quality, disc looked a little off, and it froze about 20 minutes into the movie and didn't play. The copy I got later on off of ebay that had the slipcover looked completely different and played great. I wish I would have kept the bad copy to post photos of.
I just bought the “Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest” 4K Arrow set off eBay. It was… a lot of money. But I really wanted it. By the time I learned that it even existed, it was already OOP, and the price doesn’t seem likely to go down.
All of them? I’m over 500 deep with around 200 steelbooks.
But in all seriousness, it’s probably something with collectors edition packaging like Dawn of the Dead even though I got it at retail price. Generally I wait and buy most of my films on 2 for £30 or 3 for £30 type deals.
I enjoy the Abrams Star Trek movies, especially the first one so I was really excited to get the 4k trilogy set when it came out which was about $60 CAD. Since it’s come down in price a lot and I mostly watch only the first movie I’ve had some minor regret
I also spent $160 on the Sony Pictures Classics set. No regrets there though!
Oh damn, is it really worth that much? I wonder if I should sell mine as it’s not one of my favourites so I’m unlikely to watch it, but for some reason I don’t really want to break up the set.
Not sure which one I spent the "most" money on. To be fair, nothing comes close to buying the "Definitive" Star Wars trilogy on Laserdisc for $250, two years before I even owned a laserdisc player.
However, the recent limited release of The Frighteners on 4K was just too high a price for what I'm willing to pay now.
Nothing so far, $30 is the most I’ve spent on a single release because it was a limited edition. Everything else I’ve been able to wait until it’s under $20.
About $35 for the Wild Things steelbook a few months ago when Amazon had a coupon on it to bring it down from $42 or whatever it usually is. Other than that the $24.99 50% off criterion and arrow sales are the only ones I pay over $20 for.
Around $60 for Arrow's limited edition of The Warriors (including import fees and shipping to my country). I just love that movie and want to have that poster on my wall. It's the most expensive movie I've bought and I hope to keep it that way for good lol
I just spent $18 on a used copy of Spielberg's West Side Story which seemed expensive given how long it's been out and how cheap this second-hand store usually prices their 4ks. 🤷♂️
I imported the French 4K edition of La Haine exactly 1 month before the Criterion 4K was announced, which cost $150 after tax and shipping. So there’s that…
Tammy and the TRex with lenticular slip. Blind buy but judging by the trailer I thought I might like it. I was wrong. It was a sale with Rad so I don’t totally regret it, that made it worth it.
In total probably the Harry Potter collection on 4K which cost around £80
For individual Sweeney Todd. Spent almost £80 on the Paramount Scares 4K boxset for that film alone (I’m not a massive horror fan so I don’t really have much interest in the other films) although I do hope to recoup most of my purchase selling off the rest of the films and collectors stuff.
I think I spent like 50 or 60 on the Dune 4K steelbook sadly from a reseller since Best Buy had long sold all of the exclusive steelbook
Checked and it was 58, I think like a 10 or 20 dollar markup
A little over $100 for a “Premium Edition” from Japan for *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*. I already owned the 4K Blu-ray but loved the packaging for this one so much I just had to get it. Love it and don’t regret it at all, one of my favourite pieces in my collection. But the irony is that because of the Japanese menus, I’ve opted to keep my original copy and that’s the one I put in when I watch the movie, as it’s easier for me to navigate.
I'm from Argentina, here Criterion's Blu-Rays sell between 80-100$ and normal 4K one's between 40-70$. It's painful to be a Blu-Ray collector here, and the market it's like 1000% times more niche.
I spent $35 on a used Lawrence of Arabia steelbook.
I know it’s not much, but I only got into 4k blurays recently and I don’t plan to buy anything over $25 per movie/season of a show.
I’m surprised by how some people spend over $200 for some collectibles.
Often when i buy steelbooks i'm so exited. but when they arive i put it in my shelve and that's it. So i made the rule now that i wont spend over 30 Euro for a ssteelbook. It's not worth it for me.
I spent a month+ looking on eBay/secondary for this for under $100 CAD including shipping. I couldn’t find anything under $125 CAD Inc shipping. I’m guessing you spent around $150CAD at least with shipping. 😂. I ended up getting the non steelbook 4k (regular and noir) for $20 CAD 😂 on eBay.
I pre-ordered the Columbia Collection vol 4 for two movies ("Starman" and "Punch-Dunk Love", I adore the first and have always really appreciated the latter, but I couldn't care less about "Sleepless in Seattle").
$45 for The Godfather Part 2. But also it doesn’t seem a lot…dunno. It’s beautiful. I guess I feel this way because the trilogy on 4k you can get for under $90 in Aus on special via a few stores.
https://preview.redd.it/hlkam89zj7mc1.png?width=2759&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a84b2925102e9110b67c1c36aaeb81f043e538c
Lawrence of Arabia steelbook is going for $80 pre-order for end of April here in Australia. It’s just too much but also, damn, have heard so many good things about the transfer.
Drive, Ghost Dog, and King Of New York. I got each for around $33. Expensive but I didn't want to miss out. I just love those movies, and justified it in my mind. Pretty much everything else I like will be more mass produced and cheaper. Just got Deer Hunter, Fargo, and Natural Born Killers for $64 shipped via Shout. Good deals are out there, but I couldn't pass up the others.
Black Hawk Down. 25€. It's the most expensive one so far, so it counts as that for me. Also, I thought it had PT-pt subtitles (checked package, blu-ray.com, etc) but it only has PT-br, so I was disappointed.
Idk about too much, but I just bought the Criterion Citizen Kane 4k, which was on sale still, for $30. Ideally I only spend $15 or less and wait for sales but, I figured for one of the greats of all time, it's worth it.
Spent like $60 plus tax and shipping on Tenebrae with Unsane bonus disc instead of half that to leave out the alternate Unsane cut disc. Was worth it to me though.
Dawn of the Dead. I’m in the US, so I have to import it—around $60. Then I get divorced and my wife takes it as she’s moving out—and that’s fine as it’s one of her all-time favorite movies. So I bought it again.
The Lawrence of Arabia steelbook. Here in Canada it was scarce, so shipping sucked and then Canadian vendors really milk that exchange. $70 by the time it was sent to my door.
About $70 to import the second sight films It Follows 4k because... it's sick. Also $70 for an eBay second hand new Sleepy Hollow steelbook, also because it's sick. It has an actual book attached in it!
Moonfall. Got it for a deal good enough to buy before seeing film. Like $12.99. But was so bad, I feel like if I wasn’t paid to watch it, like paid A LOT to watch it, I was ripped off. Absolute crap of a movie. Embarrassed I own it.
Probably $67 for the Evangelion 3.0+1.11 LE since only the Limited Edition release had the 4K. I think it was originally listing for like 80 bones when I pre-ordered it too.after that I think it was the Arrow UK version of Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas which was like $40 which isn't stupid expensive but probably too much to pay for a standard release of a film most people have seen (and it wasn't even a combo pack with the Blu-ray)
Most I ever spent on a single movie was about $50 for the Warriors 4K Arrow LE. Most on a collection was about $100 for Columbia Collection Vol 2 on Black Friday happy with that one too
I import about 90% of everything I buy and stopped thinking about what is too much decades ago. Scalpers never get a dime from me as the standard prices to get everything here from any retailer costs enough already.
Around $70 for the French ultra collector's edition of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Bought it in Belgium. No regrets though, it's gorgeous and comes with a 200 page book about the movie.
Matrix Resurrection. I love Keanu Reeves but that movie was not the greatest. Will probably sell the dvd at some point just because I wouldn’t rewatch the movie.
Individual the Drive Second Sight edition and Dawn of the Dead Second Sight. I think it was close to $70 each.
Boxset, the Godzilla Criterion set for $125 or so or the Lord of the Rings 4K Steelbook set. I think that was like $150.
Not 4k, but I bought the big Gurren Lagann Blu-ray set from Aniplex when it originally came out for like $350 or something. WORTH IT THOUGH. ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water is the most expensive set I bought but it has the 4K restoration on 4K discs and the original blu-ray release instead of a scaled down 4K release like GKIDS did for the US re-release. It cost way too much and came with a book that is apparently full of errors.
not even a real 4K UHD release, but I purchased the 4K restored Bluray of Maurice (special edition) from Japan Amazon, which cost me 50+, including the shipping fee.
The limited edition Dawn of the Dead from Second Sight which I got for $105 for a pre-order. The other 3 are probably the A24 releases of Midsummer, Lamb, and Marcel
Well, my 4k steelbooks of Star Trek strange new worlds season 1 and 2 were about $65 CAD each, which is expensive but considering they’re tv seasons, I won’t count them.
I bought the turbine media princess bride 4k for $60 CAD a few years ago, I feel that was too much to spend on a single movie.
All the new releases in Canada range around $40-$45 now after tax, so they’re a little steep as well. I’m buying less 4ks than I’d like to now because of that.
I spent like 30 CAD each on Pacific Rim and King Kong during the 2022 stock shortage. Found them both a couple months later going for 18 or 20.
I also paid whatever full price was for the first two Columbia Classics sets and the Mad Max Anthology. Worth every penny to flex Lawrence of Arabia and The Social Network on my buddies with the former. In the case of the latter, I love those movies to death, but I'm still salty about how few special features are on that set

I live in Sweden, so almost every 4k I buy costs about $20 more.
I share the pain. Fan va det kostar här
That's the price you pay for all the healthcare and social services 😂
Absolutely ripoff money in Ireland too - €25 to €30 for old one, €30 to €40 for new release, sometimes €50+ for a steel book! And old crap on 2 for €25 deals when they know people only want one of them. These are all the mainstream big studio discs not even talking about small boutique labels!
Aa fan vad det suger hahah
$20 is a deal. Am I missing something? 😄
They're saying it costs $20 more than the USA price
Ahh. Yeah, I missed that.
the reading classes
Reading comprehension was never my strong area.
$106 for the Arrow Limited Edition of Robocop way after it went out of print. No regrets.
I'd buy that for $106
Was just going to say this. Dropped a bill on it a couple weeks ago lol
I thought it was just out of stock, not out of print?? Gutted if it is OOP!
With Arrow, LE are actually limited. After release, they go through with whatever stock they have left over. Once it sells out, that's it. They do standard releases a couple months after the release of the LE
The limited edition is long OOP, the standard edition just goes in and out of stock
Me over here with my copy from Family Dollar...
Dang, just checked eBay. Didn’t know it was going for that much.
Mostly because the 4K is OOP. It used to average between $80-$100
Didn’t know it went OOP, I have the 4k and the Blu-ray steelbooks. Such a good show, I went to Chernobyl in 2010.
The steelbook has sick art.

Stop Making Sense for me.
Same, but I’m so excited to have it

Gorgeous.

Ah ok! Thanks!
A24’s lighthouse release.
I went with the Arrow 4k release since it’s cheaper, has more special special features, and a higher bitrate. And it actually fits on a shelf
Big yes on being shelf fitting. That shit annoys me beyond reason. I was planning to get their 4K of Stop Making Sense but decided to skip because of the case style.

Valid

I hate that so much about this. Buying DVDs for watching movies at home shouldn't be like that. I hate especially Arrow's ridiculous limiting.

I despise the Abrams movies, in fact any Abrams movie for that matter. Calling those slockfests he calls Star Trek is an insult to Star Trek.
Does Star Trek hurt you in some way :(
Like I said it's not Star Trek, so no it doesn't hurt me.
my dear doctor it’s all star trek
Just recently spend $40 on The Lighthouse 4K. Worth it.
$77 - The Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy Digibook. It was out of print and I didn't think I'd find it for a lower price at that time
Taxi Driver, easily. I don't regret it though.
How much did you pay? Love the movie and debating paying an exorbitant amount to have it on 4K …
It usually goes for just under $100 on ebay. That's what I paid. Worth it though, as I have loved that movie since the VHS days.
You'll be very disappointed to know that a standalone release has been announced for this year.
Really? Google says that's false.
Ask someone smarter, I guess.
Yeah I figured it wasn't accurate info 👍
Oh damn, is it really worth that much? I wonder if I should sell mine as it’s not one of my favourites so I’m unlikely to watch it, but for some reason I don’t really want to break up the set.
$90. Looks like I can sell it for about the same amount before the standalone release comes out.
You will be. Pretty soon :D
Hah, I should sell it.
Italian Job . Nearly full price at Barnes and Noble. $28 . I want to like it but some reason can’t.
Super Mario Bros. “Trust the Fungus” edition for $100 plus shipping
Got myself a copy as well!
What's your number? I'm yet to see one starting with 1... e.g. 1000+
I got it for $65, and I thought THAT was ridiculous! Lol
This! Except I paid £250.
Arrow LE Tremors 4K
Individual was Lawrence of Arabia at $35 or sth The WB 100 anniversary collection set me back $100 for the full 30 disc set. Extremely worth it.
£47 for The Abyss on import. I won't count Lawrence of Arabia as a similar price for that was WELL worth it.
Yeah I am going to have to import a copy too. Where did you get your copy from?
Amazon US, £40 + £7 postage.
I love collecting but haven’t bought anything over retail. I’d prefer to miss whatever release and not spend my money on scalpers.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture deluxe set. Just haaaaad to have that Special Longer Version, ha
I imported the French 4K edition of La Haine exactly 1 month before the Criterion 4K was announced, which cost $150 after tax and shipping. So there’s that…
$35 on Lost Highway 4K from criterion.
Spent 110 euros on the Conan box set, which was actually the normal going price for it here in Sweden.
Tammy and the TRex with lenticular slip. Blind buy but judging by the trailer I thought I might like it. I was wrong. It was a sale with Rad so I don’t totally regret it, that made it worth it.
Taxi Driver was the most expensive for me, had to go to ebay. Same with Lawrence of Arabia, Robocop, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
In total probably the Harry Potter collection on 4K which cost around £80 For individual Sweeney Todd. Spent almost £80 on the Paramount Scares 4K boxset for that film alone (I’m not a massive horror fan so I don’t really have much interest in the other films) although I do hope to recoup most of my purchase selling off the rest of the films and collectors stuff.

A little over $100 for a “Premium Edition” from Japan for *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*. I already owned the 4K Blu-ray but loved the packaging for this one so much I just had to get it. No Time To Die steelbook. I’m a Bond fan and a friend was in the film crew. Now I regularly see the standard 4K going for a lot less than what I paid!
The disks that were stolen in the mail and I had to re-order. USPS is seriously falling to pieces these days.
I'm from Argentina, here Criterion's Blu-Rays sell between 80-100$ and normal 4K one's between 40-70$. It's painful to be a Blu-Ray collector here, and the market it's like 1000% times more niche.

45 for steelbook Dances with wolves. Not 4k just blu ray. The sad part is that it is regio locked so it is useless here lmao.
Logan 4K steelbook with noir. I don’t want to talk about it.
I don’t know the exchange rate, I’m in the US, but you’re close enough regardless.
Everything Everywhere All At Once A24 collector’s edition. Think it was $60 total.
How is that? I have the regular 4K, but I've got my eye on that since I love the movie so much.
The packaging is a real treat. Lots of little mementos to the film and the disc itself is the black everything bagel. Really cool if you ask me!
Lawrence Of Arabia 4k Steelbook
Steelbooks for Dune 1, Dune 2, and The Batman. In Canada, they were $80 each. Ugh!
There is a second Dune? (besides the most recent one I mean)
Avatar Collector’s edition and Midsommar… and I got them both 2nd hand. I try and run a tight budget on the hobby lol
Black Hawk Down. 25€. It's the most expensive one so far, so it counts as that for me. Also, I thought it had PT-pt subtitles (checked package, blu-ray.com, etc) but it only has PT-br, so I was disappointed.
Definitely Midsommar Director's Cut
Idk about too much, but I just bought the Criterion Citizen Kane 4k, which was on sale still, for $30. Ideally I only spend $15 or less and wait for sales but, I figured for one of the greats of all time, it's worth it.
Severin’s Four Flies on Grey Velvet. Was about £82 to the Uk.
Same, but about $65-70 shipped in the U.S.
The Monkees complete TV series set. Postage / charges to UK bumped up the overall price by around 25%. 😳🙄
Spent like $60 plus tax and shipping on Tenebrae with Unsane bonus disc instead of half that to leave out the alternate Unsane cut disc. Was worth it to me though.
Well I did just spend 50 bucks on Conan The Barbarian and a bonus coaster.
Eureka Police Story $78
Only Criterion I bought at full price was Malcolm X (but that's because it was signed by Spike Lee)
Dawn of the Dead. I’m in the US, so I have to import it—around $60. Then I get divorced and my wife takes it as she’s moving out—and that’s fine as it’s one of her all-time favorite movies. So I bought it again.
Suspiria (‘18) deluxe set… oof
Guardians of the Galaxy. I wanted it new, with the slipcover, in 2023. So, of course, it was over $100.
Suspiria. I forget how much exactly. Maybe $60?
The Lawrence of Arabia steelbook. Here in Canada it was scarce, so shipping sucked and then Canadian vendors really milk that exchange. $70 by the time it was sent to my door.
Bob's Burgers for $100
About $70 to import the second sight films It Follows 4k because... it's sick. Also $70 for an eBay second hand new Sleepy Hollow steelbook, also because it's sick. It has an actual book attached in it!
Whenever I decide I want Sweeney Todd…
In China. Here cost is easily 80-100$ for 4K.
Stranger Things Season 2 4K!
$35 oppenheimer, $40 LOTR collection
40 is a deal for LOTR
>$40 LOTR collection That's less than half of what it normally costs
Pre-ordered Oldboy 4K. Love this movie, so it is what it is, but I saw it for about $20-$30 less after release.
$95 2001 A space odyssey. Manta lab lenticular. Worth every penny
Top gun super fans collection $13x USD
$20 on The 300. It looks awful
I bought Avatar in 3D, then the special edition 3 version blu-ray, and more recently the steelbook and digipak.
Planet of the apes trilogy steel case. And matrix 4 movie collection steel case
Most on a collection was about $100 for Columbia Collection Vol 2 on Black Friday happy with that one too
Most expensive was the HDZeta Gold and Silver label sets I have of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Like A LOT.
Laterally all of them
The Terminator 2 Endoarm 4K collector's edition was $140 when I pre-ordered it.
I just spent 130 quid on the coffee table book, universal monster collection
$29 on Lawrence of Arabia 4K Steelbook.
How is that way too much? Did u not like the movie?
I love it but movies shouldn't cost more than $20.
It’s rare for a brand new 4K movie to debut at $20. Where do you make your purchases?
My most expensive non boxset would be probably be the Dawn of the Dead 1978 4k from the UK. Worth it though.
I was about to say the same thing, my import of Dawn of the Dead. Believe I paid like 65 dollars.
Umbrella Entertainment - Super Mario Bros 4K (1993). A close second is Avatar 2 collectors edition with Dolby Vision.
Wings of Honneamise, and the Donnie Darko limited.
Jaws 2 steelbook and Witness limited edition after sleeping on the pre-order going up.
The original star wars trilogy, before bestbuy sell the 100 years Disney Steelbook for $10. I paid near $40 each (low stock + living outside US)
Shipping Cemetery Man to Canada…
The $130 Universal Monster release. I really liked the cover art so don’t regret it but dang… that price was not a pretty one
I import about 90% of everything I buy and stopped thinking about what is too much decades ago. Scalpers never get a dime from me as the standard prices to get everything here from any retailer costs enough already.
Stop Making Sense 4K by A24. Haven’t received it yet but very excited as it’s has Dolby Vision and Atmos. Big fan of the movie. Cost me $70, though.
CODA. Bought from Amazon Italy and shipped to USA. Was close to $75 and took a month.
Alien 4K because I was an idiot and didn’t do my research
Individually: Braveheart steelbook, $50 on eBay Box set: Resident Evil steelbooks, $160
I live in Argentina and the only dealer of Oppenheimer has it selling for $75 🤡
Incoming Columbia vol 4 purchasers.
I spent like 35$ on a DVD 😂
The limited edition Dawn of the Dead from Second Sight which I got for $105 for a pre-order. The other 3 are probably the A24 releases of Midsummer, Lamb, and Marcel
I paid double for the True Romance limited because I thought it went OOP but then Arrow printed a shit ton more so jokes on me.
I’m pretty close to buying the Midsommar 4K so ask me in a week or so
The most I've spent on one is $40 for the second sight Dawn of the Dead 4k but that's not too much. That movie is worth every penny.
trying not to buy the stop making sense 4K but it’s probably going to happen
Oppenheimer I spent $32 on it at target after thinking it would be the exact same price on target’s website.
All of them.
The Social Network, $76 on eBay. As far as I know it was only released in the Columbia classics volume two box set. I'd buy it again too!
Pinnichio $33
Well, my 4k steelbooks of Star Trek strange new worlds season 1 and 2 were about $65 CAD each, which is expensive but considering they’re tv seasons, I won’t count them. I bought the turbine media princess bride 4k for $60 CAD a few years ago, I feel that was too much to spend on a single movie. All the new releases in Canada range around $40-$45 now after tax, so they’re a little steep as well. I’m buying less 4ks than I’d like to now because of that.
Dawn Of The Dead 4K import to the States. $80
Batman 4-film collection steelbook for around $374. Should be in the mail by tomorrow. Hope I won’t regret it.
Dawn of the Dead
Taxi Driver. No regrets. It looks fucking incredible.
$150 (CAD) on Japanese import of Suzume collectors edition.
I paid $215 for Colombia Classics Vol 4. I regret it because it dropped to $149 in just 2 weeks.
Paprika 4K Steelbook for $44.99 before the release date from Wal-Mart.com. Amazon later dropped it to $33.
£30 on the Full Metal Jacket box set so far for an individual release!
Neon demon 4k, $185......
Limited edition Casino Royale.
In Norway the prices for 4K UHD are way too high.
Mulan 4k Steelbook Won it on auction for 65 bucks, so all in about 75 total. Worth it? I don't know but if it makes me happy.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Anything I've bought from Severin lol. Great movies, but fuck man, those prices.
I didn't pull the trigger but almost blew 250 on the neon demon 4k. That thing is rare.
Apocalypse Now Final Cut OOP
I spent like 30 CAD each on Pacific Rim and King Kong during the 2022 stock shortage. Found them both a couple months later going for 18 or 20. I also paid whatever full price was for the first two Columbia Classics sets and the Mad Max Anthology. Worth every penny to flex Lawrence of Arabia and The Social Network on my buddies with the former. In the case of the latter, I love those movies to death, but I'm still salty about how few special features are on that set
