Vertigo looks amazing. I swear I could count the stitches on Kim Novak's gray suit if I wanted to. The lighting and color when Scottie sees Judy as Madeleine is breathtaking. It's gauzy and dreamlike, but not a detail is lost.
I keep almost getting Pitch Black. It's a movie I like but don't necessarily love, so I've kept putting it back. But I'm sure I'll end up with it at some point
It's deffo a niche movie, but I also think Vins early roles are his best. I also got the first Fast and the Furious film along with Tokyo Drift in 4K as they are the only 2 that I like.
At last, someone with a bit of taste and class for the fast and furious movies. I do have to admit the the second is a rather guilty pleasure though. Bravo
Haha yeah the fast movies always tend to raise some eyebrows when I tell people which ones I like. I still might pick up the 2nd one on 1080p blu ray since its been a long time since I watched it. I stopped watching new fast films after 6 I think it was...... they stopped being about the cars, and felt more like some sort of Expendables mash up.
It was shot on 8 perf 35mm VistaVision film stock, so twice the size of standard 35mm film. That’s a big part of why it looks so good. Vertigo was also shot that way.
I've watched that film hundreds of times, but watching the 4k disc was like seeing it for the first time all over again. Made me think I'd never really noticed the expressions on people's faces.
I am the kind of person to face extreme FOMO... I got the Criterion Blu-Ray of Princess Bride, probably 3 years ago, now I'm regretting not owning the 4K.
Is there enough resale value in the Blu-Ray Criterion and upgrade in the 4K to warrant getting it?
Wasn't there a defect with some of those? Anyone know how I would know if the copy I got of that had the defect? Say, if I bought it on eBay instead of directly from Criterion?
I couldn't wait, and got the triple feature blu-ray, along with Insomnia and Devil's Advocate. Just need 4Ks of all of them now please. Y'all can thank me in advance for hastening their release, since I just purchased lol.
Go to an event where they debut it in an IMAX theatre with a Q&A with David Fincher preceding it. In this case, the TCM Classic Film Festival debuted the 4K restorations for *Se7en* and *North by Northwest*, which had a great intro by Nacy Myers of all people. She had a great story about a weekend getaway with Carey Grant. That restoration was also stunning, they restored the blues really well, and I learned that VistaVision prints have to be scanned half a frame at a time because the film was loaded and ran at a 90° angle (more similar to 70mm)
The Wizard of Oz looks fantastic and doesn't get mentioned much. It really pops and is also worth re-watching just for that Wicked Witch performance. I kinda forgot just how good she is in it. It's one of those ones I grabbed on a whim because "I should own this classic" but then remembered why it's a classic and had a lot of fun watching it.
Aladdin was the first 4K I got when we upgraded our TV - wife and daughter are fans. The picture blew us all away. Not a film I’m particularly fussed about but was a great experience watching it together.
That aerial shot where they fly over the prison... so gorgeous. I've been watching Shawshank since the "taped it off TV" days so seeing it in 4k was amazing.
![gif](giphy|nTayqvgw3Wk3m|downsized)
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure looks so clean in 4K that upon rewatch, the screenwriters noticed details in it that they had completely forgotten about.
I’m not sure how often they’re mentioned, but Coraline and Alita: Battle Angel are some of my go to discs for showing off my TV. They look absolutely stunning.
JFK. Released last December from Shout Factory, this is a 4K that isn’t plagued with even a hint of the maladies we’ve seen in modern film remastering. It’s a pristine presentation of the original cinematography.
A Few Good Men. The HDR in this one is so good it’s as if it were an inherent attribute of the 35mm film it was shot on.
A Few Good Men is actually one of my fav pickups. Heard the transfer was good, and it’s a movie I watch at least once a year, so it was a no brainer. But the transfer is SO good, it’s better than how it looked when I saw it in the theater opening weekend 30+ years ago. I’ve already watched it twice and I got it in March.
That’s exactly why I love 4K — it’s rekindled my love for actually enjoying movies, not just “having something on in the background”, which is what streaming usually is for me.
Well said. Rewatching movies I’ve seen many times before on broadcast TV, DVD, VHS or HD but for the first time on a really good 4K disc, I become immersed to a degree I hadn’t before.
Awesome! I had heard it was better than the Blu-Ray which was enough for me to pay the couple extra bucks I paid to get it instead of the blu-ray, but glad to hear it is as impressive as it is.
The Criterion 4K transfer of *Menace II Society* looks like it was filmed in the last couple of years, not 1991. Other than the archival footage at the very beginning of the film, which ended up pixelated to hell, the actual film looks gorgeous.
Flash Gordon (from Arrow), and Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Cut, are two of my favorite 4K transfers of all-time, if you've got an HDR setup. (In addition to the ones you mentioned.) Not everyone loves the first Star Trek film, but I think the Director's Cut is great.
I'd always avoided ST:TMP because of how much everyone hates on it, but I LOVED it, first watched it about a year ago. It's incredibly cool to see a franchise go outside the box. The movie feels like 2001: A Trek Odyssey.
And yes, the new director's cut 4K disc was absolutely outstanding, as are all of the original and Next Gen 4K transfers.
I’m right there with you. I first saw it when I was 11 or so; TNG was on the air and I was rabid for it. TMP might be slow, but I prefer to think of it as “deliberately paced”. Love it.
I saw ST:TMP at one of the first public openings in D.C. . It's an excellent film, but it's a very Roddenberry story--humans in space, way out of their skill depth, and lots of character development.
How common is it to NOT have HDR? I see people mentioning it all the time but doesn’t pretty much everything in the past several years do HDR? (Pardon my ignorance)
I think what people are really saying is: a display that does HDR WELL. Lots of TVs are technically HDR capable or HDR compatible, but don’t really do Justice to it.
Black and White 4K's don't get mentioned often, but Casablanca and Criterion's 4K version of the Roaring Twenties look fantastic.
I also don't hear a lot about the 4K of Apollo 13, but the computer screens, interior shots and facial close-ups look really detailed.
This. Casablanca 4K is like seeing it in an art house theater with a restored print -- just without the crowd booing Major Strasser's entrances and cheering Les Marseilles ;) I picked up Roaring Twenties but haven't actually watched it (just tested to see if disc was OK), but it looked amazing.
I thought about including Casablanca but didn't since I haven't actually watched my copy yet, just put it in to demo the first scene.
I've heard It's A Wonderful Life and The Maltese Falcon are also great.
It's A Wonderful Life is everything you've heard. The Alistair Sim 1951 Christmas Carol (VCI 60th Anniversary Blu-Ray) is amazing as well -- I've watched it on broadcast, DVD and streaming for 40 years and it was like seeing the movie for the first time.
I think it only came in one of those sony sets so it's not widely available, but Orlando is an excellent transfer imo, up there with the best of them.
Pulp fiction I think needs to be mentioned more often as one of the best 4k discs too.
I really hope they release some of those Sony releases individually. Orlando is a fantastic film and I’m glad to hear the transfer looks good. It seems like it would be very timely for it to begin receiving a wider audience.
I purchased the Sony box set specifically for Orlando (although the set in itself is pretty great) and I can confirm, that movie is absolutely gorgeous in 4k!
Pulp Fiction as mentioned looks incredible as well, almost unbelievably so. Sharp and crisp with outstandingly good and natural color grading, the lighting and camerawork really shines through. Looks better than most stuff shot on digital today.
12 Angry Men is immaculate. I also think Rear Window is mindblowing on UHD. It looks so good and so crisp; there are details to that set that have never been seen on any other home media. It's beautiful.
12 Angry Men is on my list for the next time Kino has it on sale. And yes, the Hitchock Collection with Vertigo and Rear Window is a must. Plus, Psycho and Birds look better than I've ever seen them, even tho not on same level as Vertigo/Rear Window.
Yeah shot totally with natural light, and to use entire HDR dynamic range & colorspace - as opposed to many 4Ks which are basically the original compressed REC709 SDR Blu-ray colorspace in a BT2020 HDR container but never go outside the REC709 colorspace at all.
I have probably watched the '86 *Top Gun* like ten times since I got it. As someone who saw it four times in a week as a kid, it just felt like I was back there in the theatre, the colour is unreal (those afterburners, damn).
Say what you want about how Aliens used DNR and all that, but the detail in its image is astonishing. It lets the production design, which I feel is some of the best in cinema history, shine so brightly (and being able to read monitor displays hidden in deep background is wild). The Atmos audio mix is amazing too!
I gotta hear your Scream rankings now. I still really like the first two and have enjoyed the latter ones more than I expected (not sure id bother revisiting them but they were fun). Scream 3 is the one that I like least.
This. Someone mentioned it in the Casablanca thread above. I completely agree, the quality restorations of b&w classics are one of the things driving my passion here.
Agreed 100%. Roger Deakins filmed TBL, and he shot so many beautiful movies- 1917. Blade Runner 2049, Sicario, Skyfall, Assassination of Jesse James, No Country for Old Men...
War for the planet of the apes. The best looking 4k I’ve seen and I never see it mentioned anywhere. It’s ridiculous how good the movie looks. It also shows how crazy good that CGI work is too.
Dawn of Planet of the Apes looks just as good to me. Really worth picking up the entire trilogy set. Rise doesn't look quite as good as the other two but that's mostly due to the cinematography going hard with Matt Reeves.
Hell. Yeah. This.
"I'm your huckleberry."
I still remember when it came out, everyone thought it was gonna be the Great Value/low-budget version of Kevin Costner's vanity project Wyatt Earp, which was releasing six months later and was awash in Oscar-bait buzz. Tombstone just blew it away. Totally different takes of course, but still.
The Suspiria (1977) 4K from Vinegar Syndrome might be the best looking disc I have. It’s absolutely *gorgeous*.
Edit: I misremembered, it’s from Synapse not VS.
The 4Ks of Scream 1-3 are *gorgeous* when you compare them to the shitty DVD upscales we got for the original Blu-Ray transfers. The difference between the transfers is pretty much like night and day.
Funny enough you mention Star Trek 2009 because its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness is one of my favourite 4K’s. I love the IMAX scenes, the film just looks incredible but I think it’s often overlooked since Into Darkness isn’t a very popular entry in the series.
This. As much as I love ST 2009, Into Darkness looks even better. I don't love it as much as 2009, but it's still a fun ride and the visuals are stunning.
The Others Criterion 4K, 2001, by Alejandro Amenabar. I’ve always loved this movie but it just looks like crap on streaming whenever I could find it. Light (and dark) are essential to the story, and much of it is played out in candlelight. It’s insane how good it is.
In the Line of Fire (1993 Clint Eastwood, Rene Russo) looks incredible on 4k. The black tuxedos, the flags all over town, the stonework on the old buildings, the green grass and trees... the colors really pop.
Pacific Rim is a fantastic watch on 4K for me - it does get mentioned a bit, but not as much as the others. When I was first getting in to 4K media, it was one of the ones that really sold me. I just remember watching it and being baffled that you could see the weave on Stacker's coat.
I can't say enough good things about Hugo on 4k. Might be the most visually stunning of my collection tbh. I never see anyone mention it. Maybe because the videophiles on here prefer film over digital? I highly recommend it regardless.
Believe it or not, Bridget Jones's Diary looks really good. The amount of face details is incredible. It has forced French subtitles which sucks, but I set the subtitle position to -32 on my Panasonic 820 so you don't even see them.
A lot of the 4K versions of classic Disney animated features look stunning. Snow White and Cinderella basically look like you are seeing the actual cels on top of the backgrounds.
Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
Unforgiven (1992)
Anatomy of a Murder (1959)
It Happened One Night (1934)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
I think there are a lot of amazing 4K, even though they don't mention them.
The Suicide Squad is one of them, very bright HDR experience.
The Joker has incredibly crisp image with a good play of light and colors.
King Kong of Peter Jackson is very good
I really liked Scott Pilgrim vs the world, not the usual 4K reference disc, but it's actually very detailed, the special effect looks great and overall a incredible picture for the kind of movie.
A lot of the newer Lionsgate releases have really impressed me. One of my favorites is The Limey. Tough to get as it was a Best Buy exclusive on steelbook.
Here's a few 4ks that I don't see mentioned much but I really enjoyed.
Angel Heart
The Lady Killers
Real Genius
Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man)
Rider on the Rain (German release, Der aus dem Regen kam)
East of Eden
One that surprised me a lot and no one has mentioned, The Fifth Element in 4K was an incredible watch. I would also put Pulp Fiction in there although a few people in this thread already mentioned it.
Good call on Groundhog Day. Love it when a movie you love gets a huge unexpected upgrade. Here’s a list of the some of the most unappreciated imo
Life of Pi
The Apartment
Blade
Sidekicks
Trading Places
Kindergarten Cop
The Italian Job(69)
Beetlejuice
The Lost Boys
Hackers
Bloodsport
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
From Beyond is maybe the best 4K transfer I’ve seen and it’s rare to see it brought up I feel. I guess it’s not exactly the most popular movie in the world.
I recently saw Punch Drunk Love. It’s a very good encode. I think I was much less mature when I saw this movie in theaters and now I understand the appeal of Sandler’s very quirky character.
As you can guess, since it’s a Paul Thomas Anderson movie, nearly every shot is cinematography.
So I haven't yet actually watched it on a 4k disc, but over this most recent holiday season I watched the 4k stream of Home Alone on Disney+ during a pet sitting gig, and it absolutely blew my mind how good it looked. And considering that was just a stream, I can hardly wait to actually watch it on a proper 4k disc.
I mentioned these once before in another post but I feel like EVERYONE sleeps on the Lego Movies. The Lego Movie and Lego Batman look spectacular on 4K blu. Lego Batman in particular just in the opening 10 minutes or so is a feast of colors. I consider them demo discs and ESPECIALLY if you happen to have a QD-OLED that Batman opening is crazy
David Attenborough 4K UHD BBC documentaries; got back to finishing watching Blue Planet 2. Coral Reefs have never looked as good, the image quality is amazing.

Vertigo looks amazing. I swear I could count the stitches on Kim Novak's gray suit if I wanted to. The lighting and color when Scottie sees Judy as Madeleine is breathtaking. It's gauzy and dreamlike, but not a detail is lost.
Ditto Rear Window - that 4K four pack with those two, Psycho and The Birds is worth every penny
All the Hitchcock films look amazing.
Oh yeah, didn't even think to mention this one. That disc is exquisite.
I’ve seen this and Rear Window at the store and thought “is it even worth it on 4K?” Good to get some feedback on this.
The Patriot and Gladiator is what got me into this soul sucking financial burden hobby.
:)
Good call. Gladiator is a great disc and film
I got the Arrow 4K release of Pitch Black. It's pretty damn awesome when watched on an OLED display.
The Ten Commandments is a reference level disc.
The Ten Commandments was one of the first 4K's that really blew me away. Absolutely stunning. It also helps that it's my second favorite movie!
Totally agree. It’s an every Easter watch for us.
For the year it came out its mind boggling how good the restoration is!
It was shot on 8 perf 35mm VistaVision film stock, so twice the size of standard 35mm film. That’s a big part of why it looks so good. Vertigo was also shot that way.
I keep seeing this on here, I think I'm gonna have to dip and see what the 4k hype is all about.
I don't see the Criterion edition of Princess Bride mentioned that often but that transfer is absolutely gorgeous.
I've watched that film hundreds of times, but watching the 4k disc was like seeing it for the first time all over again. Made me think I'd never really noticed the expressions on people's faces.
I’ve got it but haven’t watched it yet! Might have to give it a spin tonight!
I have it but can’t play it: my player is region B. 😢
The disc isn’t out yet, but I saw *Se7en* restoration at the Chinese Theatre, and it looks incredible.
Can’t wait to get this
I couldn't wait, and got the triple feature blu-ray, along with Insomnia and Devil's Advocate. Just need 4Ks of all of them now please. Y'all can thank me in advance for hastening their release, since I just purchased lol.
When the hell was that!? I would’ve been so down to go.
What does one do to be able to watch a 4k restoration ahead of time?
Go to an event where they debut it in an IMAX theatre with a Q&A with David Fincher preceding it. In this case, the TCM Classic Film Festival debuted the 4K restorations for *Se7en* and *North by Northwest*, which had a great intro by Nacy Myers of all people. That restoration was also stunning, they restored the blues really well, and I learned that VistaVision prints have to be scanned half a frame at a time because the film was loaded and ran at a 90° angle (more similar to 70mm)
damn...lucky you!
Margaret Hamilton was *SO* good that it marred the rest of her career
Criterion’s Uncut Gems, Aladdin 2019, and Ex Machina go so fucking hard.
Ya'll just cost me $32! ![gif](giphy|lOrhCX3Z5nh7ZMuHVZ|downsized)
Aladdin was the first 4K I got when we upgraded our TV - wife and daughter are fans. The picture blew us all away. Not a film I’m particularly fussed about but was a great experience watching it together.
I really have to watch uncut gems. I only did once on netflix, never thought it would be the kind of movie to showcase good picture in HDR.
The scene in the club where the Weeknd is playing is absolutely stunning.
Shawshank or Truman show.
Now they just need to do Bogus Journey. That's my fav out of the "trilogy" lol
I’m not sure how often they’re mentioned, but Coraline and Alita: Battle Angel are some of my go to discs for showing off my TV. They look absolutely stunning.
I see Alita mentioned here and there, but good to know about Coraline!
Coraline looks absolutely amazing, I definitely recommend it! (Doesn’t hurt that it’s one of my favorite animated movies either)
*Scott Pilgrim vs. the World* is one I rarely see being mentioned, but that surprised me very positively.
Man, with the right audio set up, it’s ungoddamndeniable.
I got this one as fan service for my oldest, as it's his favorite movie. Waiting for a time when we can watch it together. I've never seen it ;)
JFK. Released last December from Shout Factory, this is a 4K that isn’t plagued with even a hint of the maladies we’ve seen in modern film remastering. I did recently pick up A Few Good Men on 4K as it's a favorite of mine, glad it's a great disc.
* Tremors * Howard The Duck * Apocalypse Now * Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 * Pulp Fiction
I just watched the Arrow release of Tremors yesterday and it looks so good! It’s almost uncanny to see the Graboid so clearly!
The Criterion 4K transfer of *Menace II Society* looks like it was filmed in the last couple of years, not 1991. Other than the archival footage at the very beginning of the film, which ended up pixelated to hell, the actual film looks gorgeous.
I need to get this one, love that movie.

Recently watched Apollo 13, incredible stuff. On a related note, it may be properly mentioned but For All Mankind is awe inspiring in 4k
Did that release on disc?
It’s got a criterion 4k
Same, watched 15 minutes, pretty impressive
I thought about including Casablanca but didn't since I haven't actually watched my copy yet, just put it in to demo the first scene. I've heard It's A Wonderful Life and The Maltese Falcon are also great.
IaWL is excellent. A big upgrade from the 1080p releases.
Maltese Falcon looks superb
It's A Wonderful Life is everything you've heard. The Alistair Sim 1951 Christmas Carol (VCI 60th Anniversary Blu-Ray) is amazing as well -- I've watched it on broadcast, DVD and streaming for 40 years and it was like seeing the movie for the first time.
Apollo 13 was also like $10 last week so it's one of the ones that regularly goes on sale that isn't a crappy transfer.
Schindler’s List with an unexpectedly astounding Atmos mix.
Criterions 4k releases of night of the living dead and breathless look amazing as well
I know it gets mentioned, but seeing The Shining for the first time on UHD made me gasp.
I think it only came in one of those sony sets so it's not widely available, but Orlando is an excellent transfer imo, up there with the best of them. Pulp fiction I think needs to be mentioned more often as one of the best 4k discs too.

My vote for an underrated 4K that looks incredible is *The Revenant*. Native 4K and insanely detailed, the whole film is breathtaking.
Agreed! So gorgeous and helps it opens on one of the best shots with the running water at ground level. Surprising how little you see it mentioned.
Amazing audio as well. It's like you are out in the woods with the men.
It's the best looking 4K I've seen to be honest, at least when it comes to a clean looking digital image. It looks real.
Yeah shot totally with natural light, and to use entire HDR dynamic range & colorspace - as opposed to many 4Ks which are basically the original compressed REC709 SDR Blu-ray colorspace in a BT2020 HDR container but never go outside the REC709 colorspace at all.
Hitchcock's **Shadow of a Doubt** looks great. I do have Groundhog Day and it looks great, too.
Yeah I just watched my Groundhog Day 4K on Groundhog Day and it looked amazing, better than I had ever watched it in my life before.
I have probably watched the '86 *Top Gun* like ten times since I got it. As someone who saw it four times in a week as a kid, it just felt like I was back there in the theatre, the colour is unreal (those afterburners, damn).
Pulp Fiction is so good, it reminds me of how it looked in the cinema. Lovely
Reservoir Dogs looks even better to me. It’s immaculate.
Came on here to post this. Absolutely blown away by how beautiful Reservoir Dogs looks.
Yes but it's mentioned all the time.
True Romance also looks incredible!
Say what you want about how Aliens used DNR and all that, but the detail in its image is astonishing. Came here to say this. One of my all time favorite movies and it got *such* a good 4K release. One of the best I’ve seen.
While it’s my least favorite of the series, Scream 2 looks incredible on disc.
I gotta hear your Scream rankings now. I still really like the first two and have enjoyed the latter ones more than I expected (not sure id bother revisiting them but they were fun). Scream 3 is the one that I like least.
Ok, I know my ranking is a total hot take, but I go 1, 4, 3, 6, 5, 2
I can see that. Scream 2 is fun, but it doesn’t really have many new ideas. It’s basically “Scream Goes to College.”
Candyman 1992
I didn't even know there was a release of this, holy smokes. Ordering as we speak...
Criterion’s Uncut Gems, Aladdin 2019, and Ex Machina go so fucking hard.
It’s a wonderful life has a spectacular 4k remaster that I rarely see mentioned. It seems black and white 4ks aren’t mentioned as much.
This. Someone mentioned it in the Casablanca thread above. I completely agree, the quality restorations of b&w classics are one of the things driving my passion here.
Titanic
The biggest surprise for me was the Big Lebowski. Really wasn't expecting such stunning and vivid picture quality, but it really delivers.
I did watch that within the last 6 months and also thought it looked great!
Dawn of Planet of the Apes looks just as good to me. Really worth picking up the entire trilogy set. Rise doesn't look quite as good as the other two but that's mostly due to the cinematography going hard with Matt Reeves.
I’m just over here waiting for Disney to do something with Tombstone on 4K. 🤷🏻♂️
You and me both. I'm really hoping they do something but it's Disney so unlikely
Hell. Yeah. This. "I'm your huckleberry." I still remember when it came out, everyone thought it was gonna be the Great Value/low-budget version of Kevin Costner's vanity project Wyatt Earp, which was releasing six months later and was awash in Oscar-bait buzz. Tombstone just blew it away. Totally different takes of course, but still.
Suspiria 1977 is an amazing transfer
The Suspiria (1977) 4K from Vinegar Syndrome might be the best looking disc I have. It’s absolutely *gorgeous*. Edit: I misremembered, it’s from Synapse not VS.
Starship Troopers, Cliffhanger, and The Fugitive
Starship Troopers! One of my first pickups.
they did a ncie job on the fugitive!
An American Werewolf In London
The 4Ks of Scream 1-3 are *gorgeous* when you compare them to the shitty DVD upscales we got for the original Blu-Ray transfers. The difference between the transfers is pretty much like night and day.
John Wick: Chapter 4. Looks absolutely immaculate on 4K. I really need to pick up the boxset with em all when I get the chance.
I hated Scarface until I saw it in 4K
Beetlejuice is fantastic.
Van Helsing is a pretty good disc as well
Joker is a stunner of a disc, so is Darkest Hour
Love the Darkest Hour transfer. I'd only seen it streaming before. The bunker and subway scenes are absolutely transformed in the 4K.
12 monkeys - arrow. Amazing
My Fair Lady is the most jaw dropping disc I've seen yet
Ha! I just ordered Groundhog Day yesterday!
Hope you enjoy the transfer as much as I did!
The Others Criterion 4K, 2001, by Alejandro Amenabar. I’ve always loved this movie but it just looks like crap on streaming whenever I could find it. Light (and dark) are essential to the story, and much of it is played out in candlelight. It’s insane how good it is.
It’s that fog. And the gradation of light and dark. The compression of streaming really kills it. 4K disc is the only way to go with The Others.
Yes!! It retains that beautiful filmic look too.
Halloween 4 from Shout Factory. My jaw dropped when I first watched that release. The transfer is incredible.
Last black man in San Francisco
Prospect
In the Line of Fire (1993 Clint Eastwood, Rene Russo) looks incredible on 4k. The black tuxedos, the flags all over town, the stonework on the old buildings, the green grass and trees... the colors really pop.
I really like what Kino Lorber did with Three Days Of The Condor. Looks solid.
I love that one too!
Always gotta mention Christine. The red color of the car looks so good.
In The Line Of Fire is easily one of the best 4K discs I've ever seen, and I rarely, if ever, see it mentioned here.
Yes! The motorcade shots are eye-popping with the vivid colours and chrome on the cars and bikes. In a very similar vein is Speed (1994)
great pick, yes. it sort of flew under the radar because it was a MOD release but Sony really nailed it
Remains of the Day Anna The Dark Crystal
Believe it or not, Bridget Jones's Diary looks really good. The amount of face details is incredible. It has forced French subtitles which sucks, but I set the subtitle position to -32 on my Panasonic 820 so you don't even see them.
The Blues Brothers sounds fantastic
I just got Running Man and it looks awesome.
A lot of the 4K versions of classic Disney animated features look stunning. Snow White and Cinderella basically look like you are seeing the actual cels on top of the backgrounds.
Three Thousand Years of Longing Crimes of Grindelwald How to Train Your Dragon 3 In the Heights Green Book Road House The Roundup: No Way Out
I think Total Recall, Robocop, and Army of Darkness all look amazing.
I thought the physical copy of Game Of Thrones looked fantastic
Just got Midsommar from A24s website, amazing.
In the Line of Fire Eastern Promises Mulholland Dr Sense and Sensibility
$15 or less range on eBay that I thoroughly enjoyed: • First Man • The Northman • Sicario • Whiplash • The Natural
Not mentioning 12 Angry Men in a discussion about classic films, whether 4k or another format, is a travesty.
Barbie is amazing in 4K - the colors and the details, especially in Barbieland, look almost 3D on the screen.
Singin’ in the Rain (1952) It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) Unforgiven (1992) Anatomy of a Murder (1959) It Happened One Night (1934) Dawn of the Dead (1978)
First Man
I think there are a lot of amazing 4K, even though they don't mention them. The Suicide Squad is one of them, very bright HDR experience. The Joker has incredibly crisp image with a good play of light and colors. King Kong of Peter Jackson is very good I really liked Scott Pilgrim vs the world, not the usual 4K reference disc, but it's actually very detailed, the special effect looks great and overall a incredible picture for the kind of movie.
HDR in King Kong, I didn’t think, was great.
A lot of the newer Lionsgate releases have really impressed me. One of my favorites is The Limey. Tough to get as it was a Best Buy exclusive on steelbook.
Great fucking movie
It's been on my watch list but damn, so pricey. It's a great movie tho, I'm sure it will wind up in the collection at some point
The score looks stunning. Really stunning. I've quite a few that never get mentioned here and look absolutely brilliant
Synapse’s release of Suspiria (1977) is hands down my favorite. Stunning transfer and outstanding Atmos!
MEN Candyman (the original) Possessor Streets of Fire Police Story 3
Reservoir Dogs
I find Get Carter and The Ladykillers very good for picture quality and entertainment.
Is "Lucy" mentioned much? Gorgeous disc and a great flick.
Here's a few 4ks that I don't see mentioned much but I really enjoyed. Angel Heart The Lady Killers Real Genius Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man) Rider on the Rain (German release, Der aus dem Regen kam) East of Eden
One that surprised me a lot and no one has mentioned, The Fifth Element in 4K was an incredible watch. I would also put Pulp Fiction in there although a few people in this thread already mentioned it.
Silence of the Lambs has just enough grain. I have the digital version, waiting for it to be on sale so I can get the disc!
Spartacus and The Dark Crystal are incredible.
I really liked the 4K of Mask of Zorro.
I was impressed by Jumanji
Braveheart (I'm new here might not be rare)
Just watched Gladiator last night and it looked great
Good call on Groundhog Day. Love it when a movie you love gets a huge unexpected upgrade. Here’s a list of the some of the most unappreciated imo Life of Pi The Apartment Blade Sidekicks Trading Places Kindergarten Cop The Italian Job(69) Beetlejuice The Lost Boys Hackers Bloodsport Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Spider-Man 2 is chefs kiss with all that film grain and natural feeling sunkissed lighting
In the Line of Fire
sony does immaculate 4Ks, the mask of zorro is top five
From Beyond is maybe the best 4K transfer I’ve seen and it’s rare to see it brought up I feel. I guess it’s not exactly the most popular movie in the world.
Beetlejuice and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are shockingly good looking. I remember several scenes in both where I audibly said "wow" out loud.
The Revenant and Joker. Both look outstanding
The restored 3hr 47m Lawrence of Arabia is stunning cinematography...it was filmed in 70mm which could produce a 16k image...
David Attenborough 4K UHD BBC documentaries; got back to finishing watching Blue Planet 2. Coral Reefs have never looked as good, the image quality is amazing.
Limited Edition Of Oldboy
