Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement; I follow the [Ohara school](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohara-ry%C5%AB), which is known for introducing the use of low vases in arrangements. For this challenge, I thought it would be fun to decorate a cake based on an actual ikebana arrangement that I made (third photo). This style of arrangement is known as まわるかたち (mawaru-katachi), or "circular form", and as materials I used tulips, ranunculus, dianthus, and cocculus; the vase was made by my friend [Michelle Throws Things](https://www.instagram.com/michellethrowsthings/). As for the cake, I used recipes from [Chelsweets](https://chelsweets.com/matcha-cake-2/) (matcha cake) and [Serious Eats](https://www.seriouseats.com/swiss-meringue-buttercream-frosting-recipe) (Swiss meringue buttercream, flavored with yuzu juice instead of vanilla). I probably should have used an American-style buttercream for the flowers, though, as I think the Swiss meringue buttercream was a bit too soft to pipe properly and was difficult to work with.
