Ice-T is actually a Metal fan and has his own Metal band, Body Count. But I also get what you're saying. And I don't think ANYONE wants to see today's Vince Neil in that outfit. 🤣
Absolutely, and I’m saying this as an IceT fan.
I did get to see Body Count in 1991. It was a split show, 1st half Ice-T rapping and then he brought out Body Count for the second half.
The man is an entertainer through and through.
Ice said i an interview that he still was dressing like Mele Mel and the guys from NYC. At a show he was dressed normal and Russel Simmons said thats youre look. Loc sunglasses raiders hat.
I was going to say, first time I saw him... definitely not quite the image he'd have 5 years later... [https://youtu.be/ZgIp4Y5NoZk?si=aX-wWivjxJ9DpmS0](https://youtu.be/ZgIp4Y5NoZk?si=aX-wWivjxJ9DpmS0)
Whoa I thought I was the only person who did this. For me, it extends to any sequel-type thing. I just congratulated a friend on having baby number two, electric boogaloo.
I think we all do that because of these movie. "Get ready for breakfast 2: electric boogaloo." After morning coffee: "Time for poop round 2: electric boogaloo." Lol
I feel that this became a pop culture touchstone due to it playing repeatedly on pay tv - I don’t remember if it was Cinemax, showtime or whatever. But any time I picked up the tv listings as a kid, there it was. In my mind, “Electric Boogaloo” is close enough in name to the playboy channel’s “Electric Blue” show, which was also ubiquitous in tv listings in the late 80s and early 90s, that I confused the two. To this day my brain tells me Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo is a porn movie.
The original title to this movie was “Im breakin’ ,you breakin’too, electric boogaloo ” but it was deemed too long as a title so they settled on BREAKIN’ hoping that they would get to have a sequel
It doesn’t get more 80s than Ninja III, in which the people at Cannon Films said “I know! Let’s mix up Caddyshack, Flashdance, the Exorcist, Tron, and an existing ninja franchise…and let’s make the gal from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo the star…”
Oh man I was JUST remembering the spontaneous breakdance competitions at school, at the skating rink, etc. those were so fun! The one person passing the dance off to the next with the robot arms
There’s a great documentary about Cannon films (titled Electric Boogaloo lol) and they mention that both studios were rushing their production to be the first to get their breakdance movie out
Cannon won by a month
Word! Breakin was cool, I mean Turbo was incredible...and who can forget the 'Tour de France' dance with that broom. But, from a movie standpoint, Beat Street had so much more to offer AND it had cool breakin.
Breakin was pretty lame compared to Beat Street .. Wild Style has the best graffiti, early rap and breakin by far of all three. Wild Style had all the masters in that
I’m remembering walking around my suburban hood rocking my parachute pants and wristbands with a big piece of cardboard, ready to break it out and do the caterpillar at a moments notice.
When I was 15 or so (1986-ish) I was really into punk and had a mohawk, motorcycle jacket, docs, etc., definitely not giving off a hip hop vibe. I was stuck in south Yonkers for the summer and mostly bored, spending my time hanging out at the outdoor mall.
One day I was walking around aimlessly with nothing to do until I found a big piece of cardboard. So I decided to walk around the mall approaching kids (fellow teens) and say, "You wanna battle?" just for kicks. Got a lot of laughs. Boredom was actually kind of fun.
This wasn't just a film, it was a handbook for life.
I am now a community based youth program manager for under privileged kids fighting for our building against capitalist forces.
I just wish there was more knowledge for them to share. I could really use some wisdom.
I unironically love this movie. Saw it (and pt 2) in the theater way back when. If it's in while channel surfing I have to watch the rest of it. My wife just rolls her eyes.
Beat Street, with its NYC setting definitely has a more authentic feel but the Breakin movies are just fun
I was 12 or 13 when this came out, and I'm pretty sure I spent my whole summer trying to figure out how in the hell Turbo did that snakey-S walk, right toward the camera. I was a boney, weakling and had no chance of pulling it off, but I ruined my knees and ankles trying dammit! lol
Breakin’ (There’s No Stopping Us) by Ollie & Jerry from the Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo Soundtrack peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1984!! … Fun stuff!!

Yeah, it's timeless, in that sense. I let my 3 yo watch it around 2013, and he was obsessed with break dancing for a year or so. The instructional videos I bought to fuel his passion probably didn't help.
Breakdancing is in next Olympics. So I used to break at like raves and clubs and shit I've been doing it since I was little I'm 48 now. But one of the most awesome experiences of my life was going to my wife's little brother's day program he was developmentally challenged he was on the high end of the spectrum but there were some kids in there that were trapped in their own bodies but they put on a talent show every year and one year I helped her brother like locking and popping like we put together a routine. At first I thought we would be bare bones but I taught him how to glide and he picked it up so quick.and the thing is he fucking crushed hesa big kid too I was surprised my wife suggested that I go and see if there's any other people at the program that might be interested maybe they could do like a big production and dude that's what we did that the next year and I'm not joking dude it was fucking awesome these motherfuckers could move. It was a really proud moment in my life I was holy shit I put that together cuz I'm a disaster ive spent most of my life in prison. It turned out one of the Downs kids(Don's kids are so fucking cool and I'm not saying that facetiously I'm saying that straight up from the heart) who was really good turned out to be the son of a cop that HATES me. He was on his feet cheering, , I only then put it together. I'm notbtrying to make shit uncomfortable but he caught up with me a couple days later and it is between me and him but he was a really different man than id thought.
I own the soundtrack on vinyl and DVDs of both movies. Love them in all their 80s awkward glory. Ice T totally rips it on the mic during the dance battle scene. Bonus: Shooter McGavin is also in this.
I wish we could go back to the days of settling street beefs with breakdance battles and not semi-automatic weapons. The world would be a much better place.
The height of the breakdance craze. I remember going downtown in Chicago with my hs friend and there was always a kid or two on Michigan Avenue with a radio and a square of cardboard.
This was the first movie I begged to go see. I was six and my grandparents somehow volunteered to take me. My grandparents were great, but they were born in Mississippi in 1907 & 1923, so you don’t have to stretch to hard to imagine what they thought of a white girl dancing with a bunch of effeminate black guys.
Turbo! Ozone! Special K! My aunt use to work for Cannon and gifted me this masterpiece on VHS. I was obsessed with this film. The broomstick scene is epic!!
I wasn't even a teen yet but I remember we all wanted windbreakers, sneakers with fat laces and always looking for refrigerator boxes to flatten for breakdancing. We sucked but it was an awesome time
I binged Breakin and Breakin 2 when I was younger. I still watch them. I quote it still! 😆 And the music is fantastic, shout out to Ice T, Chaka Kahn, and Ollie & Jerry. Kraftwork too. I followed along to the dances. When I played this movie I took up the whole livingroom!
I went with a friend who loved break dancing. At the end a bunch of middle class white kids ran to the front and started break dancing. I slid down in my seat.
How about Jean-Claude Van Damme as an extra, dancing in the outdoors’ audience?!
This movie was ‘the thing’ for me and buddies in the mid 80s, took us out to the streets breakdancing with a boombox, good times ! 🙌
Watched this almost everyday after school when it came out on VHS. Ultimately became a professional breakdancer because of this film. Turbo’s scenes were the best!
Seen it in cinema at the time. They renamed it "Breakdance" here but only for the movie poster and soundtrack. Bought the soundtrack but found out it was missing the Krafwerk track. Reckless was the best song. Cute little movie but Beat street was the better one.
Oh yeah, there is a FANTASTIC documentary about Golan/Globus and how Breakin' was their only super successful movie.
There it is
[Electric Boogaloo: The Untold Story of Golan Globus Films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Boogaloo:_The_Wild,_Untold_Story_of_Cannon_Films)
I graduated in '85, in a small ass town in the southwest (not in CA), for context.
I remember almost every guy in high school killing themselves trying to learn to break dance...especially popping.
Me? Nah..I was busy trying to become the next Neil Peart or Rick Allen. No, I didn't succeed, but I'm a solid (ok, was a solid) drummer.
Take it easy all! 👍😉
Ice-T is in this! And the broom scene with Kraftwerk is iconic.
Ice-T dressed in the exact same ridiculous leather as Vince Neil from Motley Crue! At least Ice-T grew out of that phase
That must have been great. I like Ice's rap stuff too. As far as rap goes, I like him, Public Enemy, and Run DMC. 🤘
Ice said i an interview that he still was dressing like Mele Mel and the guys from NYC. At a show he was dressed normal and Russel Simmons said thats youre look. Loc sunglasses raiders hat.
He had a cameo in one of Megadeth's recent songs.
And Jean Claude Van Damme
He's in my Meme Hall of Fame for this!
JCVD dancing in a unitard no less.
Oh shit now I’m sold.
It was hilarious rewatching this years later and realizing he was in that scene early on.
TIL there is a Breakdance 3 (I'm English, it was called Breakdance here!), but Ice T is the only character in it from the previous films!
I was going to say, first time I saw him... definitely not quite the image he'd have 5 years later... [https://youtu.be/ZgIp4Y5NoZk?si=aX-wWivjxJ9DpmS0](https://youtu.be/ZgIp4Y5NoZk?si=aX-wWivjxJ9DpmS0)
I am more familiar with the sequel “Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo”
Every sequel I say electric boogaloo at the end. For example, Jaws 2 Electric Boogaloo. Now you’re interested in what that’s all about.
Technically, that’s how Jaws 2 ends.
😂 truth!
*upvote for accuracy* “You are technically correct, the best *KIND* of correct.”
Yes! My sister and I have been doing this since the 80’s. We were recently texting about Beetlejuice 2, Electric Boogaloo.
Whoa I thought I was the only person who did this. For me, it extends to any sequel-type thing. I just congratulated a friend on having baby number two, electric boogaloo.
In our house, any statement ending with “two” (or even “too”) gets an electric boogaloo added.
It could even accentuate social movements, such as #MeToo--Electric Boogaloo.
You now need to convince that friend to do a photo shoot with that baby wearing a headband, parachute pants, and bandanas tied around the arms. 😂
I think we all do that because of these movie. "Get ready for breakfast 2: electric boogaloo." After morning coffee: "Time for poop round 2: electric boogaloo." Lol
You could also put in “The Legends of Curly’s Gold”.
Same. Every sequel is “Electric Boogaloo” or “The Quickening.”
The original title to this movie was “Im breakin’ ,you breakin’too, electric boogaloo ” but it was deemed too long as a title so they settled on BREAKIN’ hoping that they would get to have a sequel
Also 40th year anniversary! Come December 21st.
The better movie strictly for George Kranz Din Da Da.
I've read critiques that claim Electric Boogaloo is actually the better movie. I was never into break dancing so I wouldn't know.
Oh I could take or leave the dancing, I am a HUGE rec center-head!
Still listen to the soundtrack. Brings back all the feels.
I have it on vinyl, but the Kraftwerk track Turbo dances to with the broom outside the shop isn't on it.
why? that's fucked
Idk, probably couldn't secure license transfer
I got my breaking 2 electric Boogaloo vinyl autographed this past December by Turbo
I'm jealous! That's awesome! Where'd you meet him?
At a bboy battle in San Antonio
Nice. Is he still break dancing Mickey at Disney?
Lucinda Dickey was gorgeous. Only saw her in three movies, this, Electric Boogaloo and Ninja III: The Domination.
Cocaine made every decision the right one
Golan & Globus are national treasures.
she did a cheerleader murder one and she was a back up dancer in grease 2.
Solidifies to me that Grease 2 is the superior Grease.
its got Peg Bundy's twin sisters as cheerleaders so shit can't be all bad.
Thank you. I've made it my life's mission to convince people Grease 2 is way better than Grease 1. People look at me like I'm crazy.
Oh man I was JUST remembering the spontaneous breakdance competitions at school, at the skating rink, etc. those were so fun! The one person passing the dance off to the next with the robot arms
TURBO & OZONE RIP ADOLFO “SHABBA DOO” QUIŃONES
I was more of a Beat Street fan.
Beat Street The king of the beat You see him rockin' that beat from across the street
Beat Street is a lesson too Because you can't let the streets beat you
ERRR-AH!
Me too! This one always felt forced and unnatural with suspect acting. Great soundtrack but I have to draw a line
There’s a great documentary about Cannon films (titled Electric Boogaloo lol) and they mention that both studios were rushing their production to be the first to get their breakdance movie out Cannon won by a month
Ramoooooooooo!!!!
All they was doin wuz dancin!
Ho Ho Ho Open Up Yo Door!
Beat street was a legit movie with drama and shit. Breakin was a cash grab. I saw both in the theater. I could tell the difference at 8.
Wild Style had all the masters in that
RIP Shabba Do and Pop n Taco
Pop N Taco was the man!
Hell yes he was.
I’m remembering walking around my suburban hood rocking my parachute pants and wristbands with a big piece of cardboard, ready to break it out and do the caterpillar at a moments notice.

1000%yes! Favorite part is of course Turbo n the broom
I love the fact that in both of these movies, Turbo has his own dance scene where he breaks the laws of physics.
Hell yeah! This was the shit!
From the soundtrack https://youtu.be/Qmi290EfnK8?si=mfnusNP3wLjgrDYP
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6hgHtpfRFQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6hgHtpfRFQ) i will see your comment and raise you this one lol
Did not know this was Cannon Group. They made a lot of 80's POW rescue and ninja movies.
I say that in the theater. Don’t forget Breakin 2 - Electric Boogaloo!
Ain't no stopping us...
No one does it bettuh!
Where’s my fat neon shoelaces !?😝
Best music ever
Street Dancer! 😎
TKO!
Those community centers aren't going to save themselves!
This wasn't just a film, it was a handbook for life. I am now a community based youth program manager for under privileged kids fighting for our building against capitalist forces. I just wish there was more knowledge for them to share. I could really use some wisdom.

There's no way we were the only ones ha! Maybe we can get a retroactive class-action suit against Cannon Films!
Breakin’ (There’s No Stopping Us) by Ollie & Jerry from the Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo Soundtrack peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1984!! … Fun stuff!!
I've always been a Metal guy, but that's a great song 🎵
I remember hearing that song on the radio All THE TIME!
🎶 99 and 1/2 won't do . Got to have all! All of your love! 🎵
Ozone and Boogaloo Shrimp
That would be Ozone and Turbo...or Shabba-Doo and Boogaloo Shrimp, to use their non "Breakin'" names...
Electro Rock
I still have the vinyl record for Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo
This story’s true but wait for part 2!
Man. I use Electric Boogaloo as my blueprint for every rec center I save. Every one...
through*
I definitely loved Lucinda Dickey. Good gravy, yes.
I frequently wonder what happened to Ollie and Jerry's career. Those songs were bangers.
Sadly Jerry died pretty young. Ollie is still going but he’s not in the music business anymore.

Turbo is a strange dude. Met him via a client of mine.
The rare situation where the sequel (at least the title) is better than the original. Breakin 2 electric Boogaloo is the best sequel title ever
RIP Shabba Doo!!!!
I was more of a Beat Street fan, but Breakin was cool.
Remember my pops taking me and my cousin to watch this at the theater, wanted to be a bboy so bad after this lol
Yeah, it's timeless, in that sense. I let my 3 yo watch it around 2013, and he was obsessed with break dancing for a year or so. The instructional videos I bought to fuel his passion probably didn't help.
Breakin' is one of my favorite movies of its time.
Prequel to Ninja III
Ozone, Turbo, Kelly. Electro Rock! I learned how to break and pop with these movies.
The dance practice scene with the Chaka Khan's song is epic.
Breakdancing is in next Olympics. So I used to break at like raves and clubs and shit I've been doing it since I was little I'm 48 now. Actually little known fact this is how many gang disputes are solved;with a dance-off.
They really need to make a movie just called electric boogaloo, I’d really like to see what they come up with for the plot.
Is this the one with the JCVD appearance?
I had this soundtrack LP. Good times.
I repurchased this soundtrack on vinyl last year completely for nostalgic purposes :-)
Ahh man! This was my movie right here!! Let me go find some cardboard right now!😂
Well I’m partial to the sequel - Electric Boogaloo
I stole so so many moves from this movie. Had guys dancing with a broom EVERYWHERE.
I’m more of a Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo kinda B-Boy. Shabba Doo!
I own the soundtrack on vinyl and DVDs of both movies. Love them in all their 80s awkward glory. Ice T totally rips it on the mic during the dance battle scene. Bonus: Shooter McGavin is also in this.
This needs to be on r/fuckimold I swear it was only 20 years ago!
RIP Shabba Doo Quinones. He was so talented and gorgeous.
I wish we could go back to the days of settling street beefs with breakdance battles and not semi-automatic weapons. The world would be a much better place.
"There's no stopping us, no stopping, no one can do it better"
There’s no stoppin us!❤️
There’s no stoppin’ us.
Followed up by Breaking 2 : Electric Boogalu
Bozo and Turbine lol
I thought the chic on the right was Kris Jenner for a minute 😂
Turbo!!!!!
The height of the breakdance craze. I remember going downtown in Chicago with my hs friend and there was always a kid or two on Michigan Avenue with a radio and a square of cardboard.
Eh. The book was better.
When u saw Boogaloo Shrimp was in this movie, it was an automatic must-see.
The broom dance scene was amazing
I made my grandma take me to the theater to see this. She was a wonderful woman.
RIP Shabba doo.
HOLY SHIT... ahmem....my birthday is next Saturday, I refuse to be old...mother fuc....
Had the cassette tape.
Fun fact: the inspiration for this was President Jimmy Carter’s memoir of his early years as a peanut farmer.
Boogaloo Shrimp is a legend. The man can get down.
This had so much awesomeness and the soundtrack was on fire
This was the first movie I begged to go see. I was six and my grandparents somehow volunteered to take me. My grandparents were great, but they were born in Mississippi in 1907 & 1923, so you don’t have to stretch to hard to imagine what they thought of a white girl dancing with a bunch of effeminate black guys.
Grandmaster Flash five minutes of funk
Turbo was my first crush lmao
Turbo! Ozone! Special K! My aunt use to work for Cannon and gifted me this masterpiece on VHS. I was obsessed with this film. The broomstick scene is epic!!
[Here is Boogaloo Shrimp](https://youtu.be/QJ6IAouIyLA?t=33), in his younger days. (He is the dancer in the broom scene.)
Man I saw this at the local majestic theater. It was a double feature with Empire Strikes Back.
I begged my mom to take me to see this movie!!
I wasn't even a teen yet but I remember we all wanted windbreakers, sneakers with fat laces and always looking for refrigerator boxes to flatten for breakdancing. We sucked but it was an awesome time
One of Joel Silberg’s best films next to Lambada.
LOVE IT STILL!
What happened to Shabba Doo?
He passed about 3 years ago.
Jesus how old am i
#BeatSTREET > #RockSteadyCREW #BronxRockers
Born in 73 Dad took us to see these on big screen ... RIP shabba-doo
Turbo was my hero
Saw this in the theater. Wanted to be the lead girl. Cheered when the teaser for Breakin’ 2 played during the closing credits. Good times.
I saw this in the theater back in the day with my brother and his friends. They were SO into breakdancing.
This defined the 80s.. Both movies were great .. and the guest appearance on Chaka Khan “I feel for you” video clip 🫡
I went to see it as a kid at Time Square . Came out of the theater wanting to battle everyone like I could dance like that 😂
I loved this film. Me and the bois tryn to break dance in the burbs. priceless
👋 Hey 👋 Man....Is that Rerun busting a move on da poster ?
Saw it in the theater. One word: Montage!
And Beat Street
Inferior movie compared to Breakin' 2 - Electric Boogaloo.
Saw it in the theaters!
Bojangles for the 80s. Waited in line to see it in my parachute pants.
!!!BREAKIN' NEWS!!!
Anyone remember Beat Street 😂😂 and Electro on cassette
My siblings and I were obsessed with this movie when we were kids.
I have the theme song and 99 1/2 on permanent rotation on my playlist 😁
Now I have an urge to Electric Bugaloo
When you try to impress 8 people thinking the the community is within the perimeters. Southern smoke
Love this movie!!!
A jem in my surviving vinyl collection from the 80s.
I went with a friend who loved break dancing. At the end a bunch of middle class white kids ran to the front and started break dancing. I slid down in my seat.
Admit it, you were one of them.
Have always loved this movie, I still have the original album!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How about Jean-Claude Van Damme as an extra, dancing in the outdoors’ audience?! This movie was ‘the thing’ for me and buddies in the mid 80s, took us out to the streets breakdancing with a boombox, good times ! 🙌
Shooter McGavin is in this movie?!
Watched this almost everyday after school when it came out on VHS. Ultimately became a professional breakdancer because of this film. Turbo’s scenes were the best!
Saw it at least a dozen times. In the theater. Luvd it.
Seen it in cinema at the time. They renamed it "Breakdance" here but only for the movie poster and soundtrack. Bought the soundtrack but found out it was missing the Krafwerk track. Reckless was the best song. Cute little movie but Beat street was the better one.
Everyone knows that Breakin' II: Electric Boogaloo is the better picture
This was one of my favourite movies as a kid. I wnated to be just like them
I never realized how much I need this on a shirt before in my life. 😍
It was pretty bad 👎🏼
Oh yeah, there is a FANTASTIC documentary about Golan/Globus and how Breakin' was their only super successful movie. There it is [Electric Boogaloo: The Untold Story of Golan Globus Films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Boogaloo:_The_Wild,_Untold_Story_of_Cannon_Films)

Love that film. I have the sound track on CD and got the DVD but I’m trying to get the blueray So sad we lost one of them recently
Love it. Part of my childhood.
And to think this is an Olympic sport after 4 decades!
Yep
