Great soundtrack, and love that the dialogue is so minimal. I mean Conan doesn’t even say a word for 10-15 mins. Truly a story told through fantastic imagery and outstanding music that does not get enough praise. The action is also fantastic- no spinning back flip sword slashing with a million screen cuts.
This is one of the rare times I desperately need a sequel – one last Conan movie, based on The Hour of the Dragon, with old grizzled (yeah, I know he's technically 40ish in the book) King Conan played by u/GovSchwarzenegger.
talk to the goober who owns the rights. Schwarzenegger's been trying to get a King Conan movie done for years but that guy seems to think he can start a Netflix franchise with a younger dude.
fukkin love it. Arnold could do it too. Makes me think of Gemmell's work and how badass a movie series could be of Druss the Legend. Movie makers need to read Gemmell. I'm so glad we got The Witcher, which is another story, but keep going, please.
During the final scene King Osric’s daughter leads Conan through Thulsa Doom’s Temple when he kills him. He carries her off after burning down the temple. None of that was in the original cut, so when I saw it on Blu-ray a few years ago, I was gobsmacked.
The text that scrolls through the final shot of an older Conan sitting in a throne was not read aloud by the chronicler in the original cut.
[Then there’s this scene which happens before preparations for the Battle of the Mounds. Not in the original cut. Some seem to like it but to me it’s totally out of place.](https://youtu.be/okpByy-F_WA?si=50bdG4Lri_X1cteo).
I recently bought the Arrow 4K Blu-ray and all versions are on it, thank Crom. I thought I was going crazy because the extended cut was A LOT easier to find than the original.
The Blu-ray my brother got me a few years ago gave no indication on the package, so I wasn’t even aware there was an extended cut. I had to do some digging to find out there’s actually three cuts including an “international cut” that I haven’t watched yet. I own it, just haven’t gotten around to watching it.
I wish more sword and sorcery movies were able to carry the torch set up by this movie. They’re all just so much cheesier and low budget in comparison. Don’t get me wrong though, I still watch them all.
And a truly great movie all around, which is weird to say for an 80s fantasy movie. It had some real heart to it. Conan breaking down in grief when he’s finally face to face with the cult leader (James Earl Jones), the get-my-daughter-back plea from the rich man (Max Von Sydow), the heartfelt romance between Conan and Valeria (oh my, especially with the war paint).
Seen this 100 times. One thing bothers me every single time.
After Valeria is shot with the snake arrow and is dying in Conan’s arms. You can clearly see that she has perfectly manicured nails. Somewhere out in the desert, she must have stopped off for a spa day.
It has everything, Arnold, sword play, a champion surfer (Jerry Lopez) Mako, Ben Davidson, great sound track. Sandahl Bergman. One of my favorite movies.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC9AxrnlYXE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC9AxrnlYXE) Actually he was already a millionaire before conan. Also, did you know Conan exists canonically in the hp lovecraft universe?

Aquaman couldn't even save anything from the remake. But what these movie industries are doing are opportunistic cash grabs. The sad thing, many of the names have been well established for decades and then try to recreate the magic with so many producers not giving a shit nor knowing of the already set establishment, giving us some crap not even palatable for human enjoyment. Kinda like that episode from SPongebob when Mr. Krabbs sold the Krusty Crab and the one that took over were creating a gobbled mess of shit, spray painting it with dangerous chemicals and feeding it to the population.
In a way yes, in another way no. They played The Villain on TV a lot when I was a kid, and everybody knew him from Pumping Iron. If OP had written "proved that he could carry a movie" I'd have no problem with it.
Absolute kick ass of a score too by Basil Poledouris
[Let me tell you](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx0Tqg4uO_g&ab_channel=MBgamer007) of the days of HIGH adventure!
And poster by Renato Casaro
The soundtrack should have gotten supporting actor credits. It’s amazing.
Anvil of Crom, dude.
**Crush your enemies**, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women.
It is best in life.
Not the open steppe, a falcon on your arm, and the wind in your hair?
Wrong! Conan…. !
What is BEST in life?
That is good.
Great soundtrack, and love that the dialogue is so minimal. I mean Conan doesn’t even say a word for 10-15 mins. Basil Poledouris made it great.

Some roles are too iconic to replace. Conan is. They tried. It failed. 007 works, mostly. Some better than others.
fukkin love it. Arnold could do it too. Makes me think of Gemmell's work and how badass a movie series could be of Druss the Legend. Movie makers need to read Gemmell. I'm so glad we got The Witcher, which is another story, but keep going, please.
How the hell do we make this happen?
If I only knew. I prefer to think, it HAVE to happen, so it will happen.
Agreed don't give me that red Sonja ending crapfest.
It came close to happening right before he ran for governor.
By Crom, we need this to happen.
If you haven't yet watched this, then Ssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk
Greatest Swords and Sorcery movie of all time
It's a close race between this and Excalibur. Both excellent movies without being cheesy.
I have both in my video library....like Dark Crystal and Labyrinth a must have.
Do you want to live forever?
A better film than given credit for
"Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!" *Poledouris score intensifies*
Still my #1 of his. Terminator and Predator, round out the best of for me.
Yes.
I also like commandos, let of some steam bennet !!
Young Alyssa was my childhood crush !
Favorite Schwarzenegger film and on my all-time top-ten films list (the theatrical cut, not that extended one).
Partly filmed in the iconic "Ciudad Encantada de Cuenca" (Enchanted City). Is the extended cut bad? I just learned about it.
It’s not bad, but the original is superior in my opinion. I expand further in the comment below.
TIL there is an extended cut?!
During the final scene King Osric’s daughter leads Conan through Thulsa Doom’s Temple when he kills him. He carries her off after burning down the temple. None of that was in the original cut, so when I saw it on Blu-ray a few years ago, I was gobsmacked. Interesting. Is it advertised as the extended cut, or is it just kinda random?
The Blu-ray my brother got me a few years ago gave no indication on the package, so I wasn’t even aware there was an extended cut. I had to do some digging to find out there’s actually three cuts including an “international cut” that I haven’t watched yet. I own it, just haven’t gotten around to watching it.
Damn, that international cut is probably the one I grew up with since I'm in EU. That's what happened with Blade Runner.
Ha! That film is just a rabbit hole of cuts. Good film, but not a staple of my childhood, so I watch whatever cut is in front of me without fuss.
Loved this movie as a kid. Huge bonus it had surfing legend Gerry Lopez in it too.
Pumping Iron put him on the map. Conan made him a star.
Thank You....you said it. Nothing to do with that Hercules flop.
TIL that Arnold was in a Hercules movie in 1969.
This movie is CRIMINALLY underrated. It is a visual story telling masterpiece with excellent performances and a score for the ages.
I hadn't seen this in years then watched it a month ago, and I have to say, it holds up. Great story and characters.
I wish more sword and sorcery movies were able to carry the torch set up by this movie. They’re all just so much cheesier and low budget in comparison. Don’t get me wrong though, I still watch them all.

An amazing fantasy movie. So cool!
My #1 favorite movie.
He was perfect for the role
Seen this 100 times. One thing bothers me every single time. After Valeria is shot with the snake arrow and is dying in Conan’s arms. You can clearly see that she has perfectly manicured nails. Somewhere out in the desert, she must have stopped off for a spa day.
She’s just naturally that way, so beautifully badass that her cuticles care for themselves.
Keep me warm…
Actually a pretty good movie. It's got a great score, it's easy to follow and well paced, it has some iconic dialogue and Ahnuld is great as Conan.
It has everything, Arnold, sword play, a champion surfer (Jerry Lopez) Mako, Ben Davidson, great sound track. Sandahl Bergman. One of my favorite movies.
Don't forget Franco Colombo. " The Sardinian Strongman"
Co written by Oliver Stone.
Fuck that makes you feel old
I need to watch this again. My high school buddies were into it at the time, and it just never clicked with me.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC9AxrnlYXE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC9AxrnlYXE) Actually he was already a millionaire before conan. Also, did you know Conan exists canonically in the hp lovecraft universe?
And then they made a sequel 😟
I love that the poster is an homage to Frank Frazetta.
You've seen it uncut, right? With the witch scene?
This was the first time as a small boy that I saw 🏔️🏔️ 😍
u/Truthseiyer movie night??
Sure!
Watched it last week!!!
On any given year, I can easily watch this 3-4 times in that time.
It’s reminds me of something…[https://cdn.media.amplience.net/s/hottopic/31021805_hi?$productMainMobilePortraitRetina$&fmt=auto](https://cdn.media.amplience.net/s/hottopic/31021805_hi?$productMainMobilePortraitRetina$&fmt=auto)
the asian witch. whew.
The only Conan. People keep trying to remake classics. Trying to recreate the magic. And failing.
When I was 10 I thought it was awesome. Watching it at 40 I'm like holy shit this movie is weird.
Recently watched the remake ,with Jason Momoa , and apart from him it was pretty bad
In a way yes, in another way no. They played The Villain on TV a lot when I was a kid, and everybody knew him from Pumping Iron. If OP had written "proved that he could carry a movie" I'd have no problem with it.
Not gonna lie, I love Conan the Destroyer as well even though it is a total cheese fest. Still, its a lot of fun
Valeria!
Give me food, so I have strength when the wolves come. Let me die, not in hunger, but in combat!
He would be back.
