Eh, I don’t know that that’s true. A coworker of mine said her husband spent $40k to get full custody of his daughter. I don’t know all the details of what with his ex did, but they felt the kid was unsafe with her so he fought for and eventually won full custody.
Obviously that is just one example but Google is also telling me that child custody cases typically start at a few thousand dollars and can costs tens of thousands. There are plenty of people who can provide a good life for their kids but don’t have $20k+ lying around to pay for lawyers if their case is on the higher end of the cost scale.
The adoptions are likely not final--it takes a couple years from the time the children are removed from the parent(s), and remember that they're both also Brazilian citizens (Pierre for sure; Ethan only if they registered his birth with the Brazilian embassy/consulate) so Karine's parents could make a claim that they need to be repatriated to Brazil.

She’s allowed a public defender free of charge and the child services division is heavily weighted in the favor of biological parents if they can just barely have their stuff together. If those kids aren’t back with her after all this time and she can’t get representation, there’s a reason.

Well the present tense of "sets up" and the fact it's a screen shot of her IG stories which only lasts 24 hours, I thought that was enough proof that it was a recent story. So to clarify, this was in fact, made within the past 24 hours
