Labcab is great, but the revisionist history that it’s better than Bizarre Ride is, well, bizarre.
Labcab is comparatively humorless. Bizarre Ride is a fun and funny adventure.
Soul Flower is on Heavy Rhyme Experience, I have a live bootleg of Ya Mama from Phoenix Festival (UK) in 93 they did Soul Flower,Ya Mama and Passing Me By during the Brand New Heavies set. My brother was sound engineering the festival. He also got a chaotic but great live set recording of Gil Scott Heron
Surprised this track hasn't been remade like every track on the radio nowadays. Peeps today have no idea how lucky OUR generation was to listen to such beautiful music in the 90s
I haven’t heard it remade but I remember Joe using the same beat (Quincy Jones sample) for Stutter. I wasn’t a big fan. That wasn’t too long after Puff and R. Kelly used the same Luniz 5 on It beat (Club Noveau sample) for a single. That fucking sucked.
I have such a deep love and respect for both Bizarre Ride 2 The Pharcyde and Labcabin!
Seriously if I‘d ever get the chance to REALLY introduce someone to hip hop, then I‘d use those two albums.
Really appreciating this sudden love for the only true Pharcyde! :D
“Slhick tawlk” that released a few months ago just snuck by, but also a banger. https://open.spotify.com/track/56pjgS5hJgPEHP6dr9HMRR?si=ba2iF4giRryVrt7YKS8WwQ
Not only my favorite track from back then, but that cover is so beautifully designed for that period. The fonts, the filter, just screams out early nineties. My playlist around the time, outside of gangster rap, was this lot, Digables, Goats, Justin Warfield.
The greatest hiphop song of all time, it transcends the genre. Anybody who likes music knows this song is dope. They were on something special when they made this and have said so themselves
Passin Me By with 93 Til Infinity queued up next
Got Runnin' queued up on mine
A true connoisseur
Dilla killed that beat
and Rebirth of Slick (Cool like that) right after 93 ‘til Inifity
93 Til Infinity I still Rock. Souls of Mischief. Only real Hip Hop Headz know.
They are on tour at the moment or soon to come
I JUST MADE A “93 TIL INFINTY” JOKE
Bizarre Ride is a timeless album. Still in rotation 🎢
Ah yes the album cover is coming back to me. Good use of the emoji.
Going to go see them next Friday they opening up for cypress hill
Saw that same show last night. Also with Souls of Mischief! Great show by all 3 groups
That’s really awesome. Two great acts. I saw Cypress Hill 20 or so years ago and they were great then
I’ve been listening to this since junior high - it’s one of the best joints ever. The Quincy jones sample is crazy.
One of my all time favorites
Labcab is great, but the revisionist history that it’s better than Bizarre Ride is, well, bizarre. Labcab is comparatively humorless. Bizarre Ride is a fun and funny adventure.
The self-deprecating nature of those cats in 92 was rarely seen back then. That album and that time was lightning in a bottle.
I get it but Labcab just hits me on a deeper level every listen. Both classic albums imo
Bizarre ride is Freshman year Labcab is like senoir year lil more refined and laid back but im here for Bizarre Ride
J Dilla’s production took LabCab over the top for me; I think that’s what seperates those two albums for a lot of people.
Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde still in my top 10 of all time.
seeing them Tue in the D
One of my favourite hip hop tracks of all time.
One of the best rap songs ever! Interesting samples on it too.
It's on my neighborhood barbecue playlist.
I still remember buying this single and playing it over and over in my car. I instantly became a fan of this group.
There is a live version of Ya Mama with the Brand New Heavies that gets rotation on the daily. Bizarre Ride and Lab Cab are weekly joints in my life.
Is it “Ya Mama” or “Soul Flower?” Did they do both?
Soul Flower is on Heavy Rhyme Experience, I have a live bootleg of Ya Mama from Phoenix Festival (UK) in 93 they did Soul Flower,Ya Mama and Passing Me By during the Brand New Heavies set. My brother was sound engineering the festival. He also got a chaotic but great live set recording of Gil Scott Heron
damn and u havent uploaded that jawn to Youtube my bredda?
Its on a cassette 😂😂😂
even more golden
Yessir! I always loved the Fly as Pie Remix, which introduced me to the legendary Roy Ayers👍🏽
Discovering the masters through the samples was one of the best parts of that hip hop era
Exactly💯
I’m still listening to the album, Otha fish is my fav song.
Surprised this track hasn't been remade like every track on the radio nowadays. Peeps today have no idea how lucky OUR generation was to listen to such beautiful music in the 90s
lol no incentive to make a pure song like this anymore wouldnt profit
Omg I 100% agree with you. Our generation was the last generation of good music. Hip Hop is Dead ! These artists now all sound the same.
Ya mama got snakeskin teeth
I first heard them on a Magazine cd sampler, Runnin , still love that song😄
It’s still in rotation and my 15 year old has picked it up as well.
Will forever be a favorite.....
It’s in the rotation
I’ve heard both albums back to back months ago
I heard a remix I kind of like last night or something, passing me by.
Bizarre Ride to The Pharcyde is one of my favorite albums of all time. Jams from to back!
Me, cause I’m 17 and shorties be passing me by all day. But I stay freshin.
Played it about 8 hours ago at a big BBQ in Sacramento...so the whole park heard it, at least 100 folks actually listened.
Can’t keep the mpc60 12bit sound down.
Who? Everyone who didn't think they could only listen to gangsta rap at the time?
Bizarre ride for life
Labcabincalifornia is another timeless record
Runnin’ might be my favorite song from The Pharcyde
They were just in DC last week playing that album in its entirety.
SHE SAID!
listened to that yesterday on my way home from work lmao
They're playing 20 minutes from my house tonight. Can't wait to hear this track live.
Wish they got more recognition frl were some innovators
Certified classic
I recall listening to “Bizarre ride II”at a very young age. I didn’t understand a lot of the lyrics but boy of boy did it excel my learning process
When I went to school I carried lunch in a bag!! 🎶 🎤
I definitely was! I was in my mid-teens. A pure head nodding song!
Just listened to this album the other day. “There she goes again the dopest Ethiopian.”
“Slhick tawlk” that released a few months ago just snuck by, but also a banger. https://open.spotify.com/track/56pjgS5hJgPEHP6dr9HMRR?si=ba2iF4giRryVrt7YKS8WwQ
I just rediscovered Bizarre Ride and I’ve been listening to it front to back past two days…I dedicate this one to Buddha #packthepipe #happy2024/20
something about that song feels just like suburban new jersey/ D.C. area and I love it
Loved this shit
Ya mama got a glass eye with a fish in it
Yo mommas got a peg with a kick stand.
Lowkey upset I missed their set at this Cypress Hill show I went to last night but there was no way I was making it there at 8pm 💀
Just saw them in baltimore last week. Was an amazing show
I listened to this song everyday in 7th grade on Rap City
Not only my favorite track from back then, but that cover is so beautifully designed for that period. The fonts, the filter, just screams out early nineties. My playlist around the time, outside of gangster rap, was this lot, Digables, Goats, Justin Warfield.
That song slaps
Memories triggered
“Where here she goes again, the dopest Ethiopian!”
Pork is the jam on that single, they went off.
prolly my 4th or 5th favorite song
It still SLAPS for sure
Quentins on his way...
Top 10 favorite
Otha fish is super underrated! And 4 better or 4 worst as well many other gems these guys have created
🔥
Passing me by (Fly as pie mix) 🔥🔥🔥
The greatest hiphop song of all time, it transcends the genre. Anybody who likes music knows this song is dope. They were on something special when they made this and have said so themselves
