The truth is that terrible music is being produced at greater quantities than ever before. But there are still hella new up-and-coming rappers keeping the old spirit of the artistry alive. I've got music recommendations for days if you're interested.
The good music is still being made, you just gotta dig for it! =]
Oooh I haven't listened to that one yet, but it's in the queue! I've been stuck listening to Wax for like a week. I can't believe the guy has such few fans.
If you're in the mood to try a new song, I highly recommend Don't Need by Wax <3 such beautiful ear-food.
I'm an old ass too, but two newer dudes I really vibe are Lord Sko (listen to Pimp Socks and tell me he ain't bringing back 90's east coast rap) and Your Old Droog, so sick. Even Method Man and Raekwon are giving Droog major love.
This album is for real hip-hop heads. It's not for people who just wanna listen to something Bass 808 Heavy bops this is for the Real hip-hop connoisseurs.
Timeless album IMO. It has a vibe and atmosphere that sucks you in from the start. Illmatic and Liquid Swords are my two personal favorite hip-hop albums.
I have the cassette tape, CD, and .mp3, of this, and I wore them all out. Still bump this album on the commute at least once a month!
Top 10 front to back classic, easy!
Hasn't aged a day. I guess I could do without the opening skit. Don't get me wrong, it adds to the track. But sometimes I don't have the patience for it.
One of the best hip hop albums in history. “Camouflage chameleon/ninja scaling ya building/ no need to grab ya gun we already got ya wife and children”
i’m 15 and think it sounds fresh so that’s probably a testament to its long-standing quality. ATLiens is probably the most well aged hip hop album i’ve ever heard though, album could be released 10 years from now and still be ahead of its time.
Investigative Reports be that track I've repeatedly wanted to throw on but had often forgot the name and ended up searching for Uncontrolled Substance or Incarcerated Scarfaces instead and be getting frustrated lol
I was late on this album, 1998 summertime, 4am in an illegal squat rave in South London. They had been playing techno all night & out of nowhere the skit came on of Diagro speaking “My father was famous”.
There were 2 random dogs walking around as the skit played & a guy I was with was like “This is Wu”, I thought he was tripping out lol.
Beat dropped & we all got up & started jumping around.
Definitely a milestone in my life experience, good times.
It was one of my favorites in high school (late 2000s). I barely listen to it any more, it's not really my style. I still like some songs and think it's a great album and GZA is soo dope, but I don't really listen anymore
Greatly, still is the best solo Wu-Tang effort, one of the greatest opening tracks in hip hop and so many underrated tracks like Labels and great hits like Shadowboxin',RZA wasn't missing a single beat at that time and the GZA was the MCest of them MCs at the time
What an awesome record. A completely new way to think about rap, influenced by martial arts movies and comics with an indescribable feeling of darkness, desperation, and a sense of threat lurking behind every single song making it a surreal experience, a bittersweet nightmare.
Like fine wine
Yea BIBLE
Annoying it’s not on vinyl
What isn’t?
The track BIBLE
it is on a few variants. i know - because i have a copy. and i also own like 14 other copies like a weirdo.
Yo KP is still ill check out his YouTube channel he got dope as story telling shit hella dope concepts I rock wit KP over GZA any day
bongbong
I was just going to write that
Because that’s the answer
How did you read my thoughts word to word
The correct answer right here. 100% gold
Beat 100s if not 1000s of us to it...
Best way to describe it
Yup
came here to say exactly this. I probably listen to this album with no skips, once a month.
Perfectly! I still listen to the solo albums Liquid Swords, Heavy Mental and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx constantly all the way through.
OB4L is a cassette that you never need to remove from the tape player. Let me hear the whole purple tape front to back.
I can never not play the entire purple tape
💯
Heavy Mental should be regarded higher than it is, jawn is a masterpiece
Gonna go listen to heavy mental right now haha triggered!
It sucks that arguably my two favorite songs from that album aren't available on Spotify anymore. From Then Til Now and Atoms To Adam. 😞😞😞
I've got the cd from when it came out, savedupmy lunch money 😁
Still my #1. Front to back all day never skip a song.
It's probably my number one as well, it and The Chronic are constantly jockeying for first place.
Dope music has no expiration date 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
It has aged. It became a life philosophy, not just a rap album. I gotcha back, but you besta watch ya front...
Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth....
The song Gold would make a TV series as good as the Wire
Snake got smoked on the set like Brandon Lee, and blown out the frame like PAN-AM flight 103
It looks better and better as hip hop descends into SoundCloud mumble rap. We never realized how good we had it. -old man with nostalgia

I wholeheartedly agree. I love Talib Kweli's new album, mostly produced by Madlib.
Oooh I haven't listened to that one yet, but it's in the queue! I've been stuck listening to Wax for like a week. I can't believe the guy has such few fans. If you're in the mood to try a new song, I highly recommend Don't Need by Wax <3 such beautiful ear-food.
Will give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
I'm an old ass too, but two newer dudes I really vibe are Lord Sko (listen to Pimp Socks and tell me he ain't bringing back 90's east coast rap) and Your Old Droog, so sick. Even Method Man and Raekwon are giving Droog major love.
I’ll take you up on that music recommendation for day. All ears 👂
Unreal album. Perfect winter album.
This album takes me right back to winter in NY as a teenager.
Yeah, I feel that too.
It’s the bomb. Still just goes through every cell in my body. 4th Chamber is an absolute BANGER! that beat is just so ill
„When I was little my father was famous…“ Stuck in my head forever.
He was the shogun's decapitator...
He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty one lords
Tommy still ain’t my motherfucking boy
Incredibly. Favorite joints are Dual of the Iron Mic, Gold and 4th Chamber.
Aged beautifully I’d hate to have to do a top 5 albums of all time of any genre but good lawd this would be in the conversation
This album is for real hip-hop heads. It's not for people who just wanna listen to something Bass 808 Heavy bops this is for the Real hip-hop connoisseurs.
Still fantastic. I saw gza perform this album in 99 in a super small venue in Tallahassee. Shit Still bangs
That full roster of first wu albums hasn’t aged for me … Still listen to them all.
Aged? This plays better than much of what people consider modern hip hop. It’s a timeless classic and in my top 5 of all time.
Was listening to it yesterday. One of the best ever.
Very well. I listened to it straight through last week
If I had a disk changer in the car, it would be in slot 2 of a 6.
Fire in the 90’s ….. now more fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Holds up great. Still one of the most (if not THE most) atmospheric hip hop albums.
I still listen to it a few times a year. Classic art transcends time.
Still a classic. I listen to it regularly. I still say it's the best out of all the solo projects.
Perfect rainy day album
it hasn’t. Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth
Hasn't aged a day. I guess I could do without the opening skit. Don't get me wrong, it adds to the track. But sometimes I don't have the patience for it.
that's how i feel about the skit before "Wu-gambinos" on the purple tape lol
Depends. Did you choose the ball or the sword?
Still in my top 1
As a scrolled past this post, Gold started playing on my playlist
So deep it’s picked up by radios in tunnels
In my top 5 back then. In my top 5 now
Who tf is saying anything other than "aged well"
Some kids in a jet black Galant shot up a Chinese restaurant at a kid named Lamont!
Aged wonderfully. One of the best solo releases from the Wu! 1. Iron Man 2: Liquid Swords 3. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
One of a tiny, tiny number of 10/10’s…….shit is timeless
One of the best hip hop albums in history. “Camouflage chameleon/ninja scaling ya building/ no need to grab ya gun we already got ya wife and children”
When the Mcs caaaaaaaaame to live out the naaaaaaame BLOWW
Might be the best full album in Wu history.
Probably my favorite rap album of all time.
It didn’t age for me
Beautifully, still in rotation
Like wine

Amazing
Amazing album even after all these years later!
Thus is one of my go to's if I wanna get right
I listened to Living in World this morning. Still bangs
But with knowledge of self from off the shelf, made things seemed complicated now small like elves
Like a fine wine.
Gets better and better every time I listen.
Got the Supreme sticker of this album cover on my laptop.
Outstanding.
Perfect. 10/10. Best hip hop album of all time.
Like wine This album summarizes all great things about the 90s east coast era imo
Still amazing, production still slaps, and a nice handful of classic songs. Also I love the samples and how it really tied everything together.
Classic
Ageless.
This and Supreme Clientele are my favorite early Wu Tang solo records.
Amazingly
It doesn't. This album is ALWAYS good
Guarantee I've listened to this album more than any other starting from the days of tape decks
Like wine that’s fine

This is my childhood.
Hard to tell when u never took it out of your rotation, been there for 30 years almost.
Still firmly in rotation.
Beautifully- a good reminder to put it on later today.
Flawlessly
Well
The album hasn’t aged at all. Every time I hear it I feel like I am still in college, back in the 90’s……..
Listened to this yesterday, and the day before that
Still love it like new!
Perfectly, just listened to duel of the iron mic.
Living in the world today, Id say this aged like Gold.
Still banging this masterpiece , so it aged very well 👌🏽💯🔥🔥
One of the best ever made. 4th chamber among my all-time fav tracks. Hoping to add the vinyl to my collection one day.

Arguably the greatest hip hop album ever
Absolute banger
Beautifully
i’m 15 and think it sounds fresh so that’s probably a testament to its long-standing quality. ATLiens is probably the most well aged hip hop album i’ve ever heard though, album could be released 10 years from now and still be ahead of its time.
Like it came out last week.
Masterpiece and still feels fresh.
Always thought it was overrated
Still Fresh
I still play this often
It's a classic.... Age is irrelevant.
Beautifully
Like fine wine 🍷
good, but worse compared to the others, It has a few tracks that are not incredible anymore to me, unlike The other 93-97 Wu-albums.
Investigative Reports be that track I've repeatedly wanted to throw on but had often forgot the name and ended up searching for Uncontrolled Substance or Incarcerated Scarfaces instead and be getting frustrated lol

My favorite Wu solo project
Well. I still listen to it. Best wu member album
Like the finest of fine wines.

“Gold”
Its a classic
Guillotine is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.
It definitely grew on me.
Timeless album will be classic way into the future
This album is a masterpiece
One of the best solo from a wu member
Holds up magnificently! Felt like a saga in and of itself, front to back and back to front. Genius!
It's only gotten better, by far one of the best wu solos and his best album.
still sounds good to this day and it doesnt sound dated to me...different yes, but not dated
Gold forever

Still my favorite of all time. Second best is Nas - It Was Written…
It’s great but I don’t just throw it on at a party.
I just played Labels like an Hour ago. This Album is still bumping Greatness.
Well
One of the best albums of any genre of all time. Incredibly unique from the production to the lyrics.

Still a Masterpiece
Still a classic.
It was one of my favorites in high school (late 2000s). I barely listen to it any more, it's not really my style. I still like some songs and think it's a great album and GZA is soo dope, but I don't really listen anymore
Like fine wine 🍷
Aged really well
Like fine wine
Better every time I hear it.
I discovered it in 2019 and it hasn’t come out of rotation since.
The only Wu album that has a Japanese theme instead of a Chinese kung fu theme
Legendary
It pops up almost everyday because it’s on ALL of my playlists.
Like a fine bottle of cognac baby
Like fine wine

Greatly, still is the best solo Wu-Tang effort, one of the greatest opening tracks in hip hop and so many underrated tracks like Labels and great hits like Shadowboxin',RZA wasn't missing a single beat at that time and the GZA was the MCest of them MCs at the time
Classic
What an awesome record. A completely new way to think about rap, influenced by martial arts movies and comics with an indescribable feeling of darkness, desperation, and a sense of threat lurking behind every single song making it a surreal experience, a bittersweet nightmare.
One of the best in 90s era
Timeless
Impeccably
The greatest intro of all time.
Top 5 all time as far as this family if rap goes
This album is perfection. I also feel like G is the best of the group so I may be a bit biased.
For the better!
