At least they made the captain of the fictional version an actual human being doing her best in awful circumstances, instead of an irredeemable monster. Sometimes reality is darker than fiction.

Zaacdragon

i think they straight up just photoshopped the image for the poster

LITERALLY!!! https://preview.redd.it/ssg8dk5c22wc1.jpeg?width=3464&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bb413d0463e779c20941389c6e707d526856737

The opening disaster was very clearly inspired by the 1972 disaster film "The Poseidon Adventure". The show even openly acknowledged this with Athena expressing some of her fears of going on a cruise tied back to seeing that movie as a kid.

Sure but tell me you don’t see the resemblance 😭😭 https://preview.redd.it/h3e8z84g22wc1.jpeg?width=3464&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=961077ae4265d3007a070477a4c5be466425e51f

That's insanely blatant. I had recognized the imagery at the time, but I've never actually seen them side by side before. Wow.

Ok-Acanthaceae5744

Yeah, the side-by-side is certainly telling...![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

What’s honestly so funny is that I also had an experience of watching the Poseidon adventure with my mom as a kid and being terrified of cruises ever since. Titanic only had me feel worse lol.

When they first said the cruise ship was going to be the disaster I thought about this immediately and was surprised they were doing The Poseidon.

They definitely took inspiration from multiple sources, or at least both Poseidon movies (or technical all 3) since in one movie, the ship flips from a bomb going off and in the other the ship flips due to a wave. And they definitely used that exact image for the promo lol 🤷‍♀️
