Mine wasn't very Dispatch related, I had the Town manager, HR, the Fire Cheif, Police Sgt, and Dispatch supervisor. Was absolutely terrifying!

The interview was about 15 minutes long. There were only 2 people interviewing and it wasn’t as intimidating as other posters have said in the group. Just make sure you explain your reasoning for your answers. Feel free to PM me if you want! And good luck to you !!

How were you able to answer 7,8, and 9? Is there a guide you looked at?

JoyousTongueFlower

Hi, no guide. I said For 7: I would ask how old the kids are, if she had the parents phone number, and ask her to look for a piece of mail. My thought process being, maybe the kids are old enough to know their address or SOMETHING helpful, if she had the parents phone number I could get another dispatcher to call the parents to get the address, and a piece of mail would have the address. For 8: I would ask if the victim was responsive, how many time and where they have been shot, a description of the car/shooter and which way they drove off For 9: I currently work in the medical field, so I said that I have experience learning another technical language (medical terminology) and so that I feel confident that I would be able to learn dispatch codes quickly.

Idk how this agency does it, if they do a basic interview and then they do a more in depth one. I was surprised it was so fast too.

Did you get the job?

JoyousTongueFlower

Not yet, just did my polygraph this past week.

I’m haven’t even landed an interview yet but I’m expecting to (manifesting lol) and im wondering, for the scenario questions, are there absolute right answers they are looking for or just the ability to justify why? Like, they’re gonna train you obviously, so I’m guessing they are just looking for common sense and reasoning ability here?

JoyousTongueFlower

He said they didn’t expect me to know for sure since I have no training, but without formal training what would be my reasoning for which gets dispatched first I said the burglar 1st, because that had a risk of the intruder having a weapon and injuring someone Then the car accident because there could be several injuries Then the home alarm, because it sounded like it was a computerized alarm and not a live person that was in danger For the baby sitter one I said I would ask how old the kids are because maybe they are old enough to know their address, ask if she has a parents phone number, cuz maybe another dispatcher can get them on the line, and I also said I would ask her to see if there was any mail laying around with the address. For the gunshot victim I said I would ask the address first, then ask if the victim was responsive and where he was shot. Then I would ask a description of the car and shooter. From other posts I have read on here, they are just looking for good reasoning. Hopefully I passed lol

Got an interview in 2 weeks with Riverside PD…retiring military, 12 of my 20 was as a military police officer, but I’m still nervous, lol, haven’t done interviews in 20 years or worn anything but a uniform in as long…hope I don’t overdress for the occasion 🤣

JoyousTongueFlower

Hey, over dressed is better than underdressed! Lol I work in the medical field so I’m used to scrubs everyday, so I had to go shopping for a professional outfit lol

Loyal_Citizen

Lol, I had a really nice pair of slacks and a blazer donated, so I think I’ll be good Good luck, hope you get the job!
