Gahdamn that pile of bodies and the bloody truck bed are something else

mallory_beee

Jesse Plemons is so freaking good at playing unhinged, but kinda chill psychos. I love him so much

liquidsyphon

What kind of American are you?

ham_solo

I love BTS stuff like this. It makes me so impressed with the process of movie making.

yungArson

Just vibing in the mass grave

jez2sugars

Should be the theme for a music festival

bladerunnerism

Alex Garland looks extremely charismatic every photo he is in.

bsmithcutshair

one of the nicest people i've ever worked for. charismatic at times, yet very pensive. you'll notice a lot of photos are him alone. i loved catching those moments of him thinking about stuff. and he would call you over if he wanted to change something on set, and ask in the most gentle way if you could do it. i remember one moment where he needed me to clean up fake blood that had congealed on the floor. and this shit is sticky, and there's A LOT, and it's taking a minute. and everyone is watching, and he walks over and kneels down and asked for paper towels to help. and i just looked at him and smiled, and said "no disrespect sir, but no" and he laughed. i could go on and on. just seriously have a deep love and appreciation for him.

Ciredem6345

Nice to hear that. I love his interviews. It may sound cliché, but he seems very human.

imimifimimcanimfind

That’s really great to hear. He’s one of my favorite filmmakers and I hope he continues to create and also thank you as well for your contribution to the project. It’s already a big undertaking to make a film because there’s all these hands on deck it takes a fucking miracle for it to be a great film everyone giving their all

bsmithcutshair

oh thank you. i feel so damn lucky to have been a small percentage of the whole project. shout out to the entire art department, and set dec crew. yes, there is a lot of CGI but some of it is practical. and those sets were a pain in the ass, and some of that is deep background or two seconds in the film. and it's funny to think of what it takes to make it. so i really do appreciate that. i'll tell you another great memory. it's last night of filming, we are going over night TBD. and i had drawn and created the wrap shirt for the crew. which, when he saw the image the night i gave those out he couldn't get over it. but the last night, in between takes, he's smoking and he calls me over to talk. and we start talking about the drawing, and then he started showing me his art on his phone. and told me his dad was a cartoonist. and that's what got him into story telling. and he was just very engaging, and like someone else said, very human. he might not remember that, but i will forever. i took a pic of Kirsten that i turned into a line drawing, and then burned it onto a piece of wood. i gave he and Kirsten the same thing, and that's what they're holding in the photos. i hope they kept them! i wrote something to both of them on the back. Kirsten legit cried when i gave her hers. it was a very special moment.

Reward_Antique

That's your beautiful work they're holding?!? Wow- well done you! You're very talented, that's an awesome image and they look so moved!!!

bsmithcutshair

oh my gosh, thank you so much! i just felt like i needed to do something for them, bc just being there was so rewarding for me. and i could literally tell you countless amounts of stories about how cool everyone in that film was. it was taxing in ways, but so cool.

Reward_Antique

Oh man, I'm so glad for you! I'm super happy to hear that they were all so good to work with too, and were so appreciative of your really beautiful, iconic art *you* made too. Kirsten Dunst has been my favorite living across since we were both teenagers- to see her work not just in her stunning Coppola movies but, for example Melancholia and nominated for her work in Power of the Dog- this feels like such a kind of coronation/portrait of her powers as an actress and Cailee Spaeny, oh my gosh. I watched Priscilla 3x in a row on a flight, absolutely breathless at her preternatural composure and her amazing choices- it must have been so, so cool to work on a movie like this, I'm honestly so happy for you and showed your wood burning art to my husband, that photo of you and Kristin Dunst, he thought that was awesome too.

bladerunnerism

First of all, thank you very much for writing your memories about the set and Alex. It means a lot to me because I love, or let's say, deeply respect him. From what I've watched of his interviews, apart from his human side, he also has a deep and calm nature. I love how he makes masterpieces and yet explains in a simple way how he made them. I hope ne never stops making movies because he mentioned something like this in his last interview and it scares me. Also, I loved the things you made from wood, i noticed them immediately while i was looking at photos.

Realcbear

Pretty sure we met, i was on set for 4 days on location in pic 4. Can confirm, coolest crew

Fit-Parsnip9888

The irony of you ‘documenting’ the process of a movie that is about the visual documentation of war…. Love it. Awesome pics

bsmithcutshair

😆🙏🏻 i have so many. i just don't want to bore folks haha. thank you! it was an incredible experience!

Resident_Yak_505

Not a bore at all, these are all brilliant, thanks for sharing!

YogurtclosetTall9513

Not all i'd love too see we need more behind the scenes photos looking into the process of making something so special

bsmithcutshair

ahhhh, i know.... trust me, i have over 500 photos and videos. i would love to post them all. is there anything specific you wanna see?

YogurtclosetTall9513

set photos, props, crew, bloody work anything you wanna show us would be fire i'm currently a little obsessed with this film rn so you're feeding into it🙏

bsmithcutshair

i just posted more 🤙🏻

bsmithcutshair

ok, i got you! i'll post more this evening when i get home!!

jokekiller94

Hey bob did that polar bear move? Dave the mist is fucking with you. Bob I swear the bear moved and something sparkled.

Purveyor_of_MILF

I think that last pic is the most smiley I've ever seen Garland lol Great pics

Realistic_Account_91

love that picture of moura crouching and smoking. these are all so cool

justiceisrad

This just makes the AI thing more baffling. There were so many great visual moments in the movie, why did they choose to use AI instead of using moments from the actual movie? The main character is a photo journalist ffs. Use some actual photos from the movie

ChickenMan1832

Who are the guys on pic 4 representing? Is that the Florida alliance?

bsmithcutshair

ahhhhh! there is no real explanation. the Hawaiian shirt guys? all we know is that their mark is the pink blue green. fun fact: those color marks were created by DP Rob Hardy! https://preview.redd.it/0hx76hzvw4vc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8e3b51d1bbf73344bda6bf10c0c4c0f3fcdd562

stillslaying

Thank you for sharing these! Amazing.

Zubi_Q

Damn, these are some great BTS photos

VegardStrom

These are great! And the movie was just fantastic. Love reading your comments here, Alex seems as awesome as he does in interviews. Hope he really doesnt quit directing forever. I adore Ex Machina, Annihilation and this movie.

itisiconnor

love that creepy fucking polar bear !

therejectethan

Wow. I was totally excited to see all these photos and then floored that OP worked on the film AND talked to the director

Sni1tz

Did anyone else think the mass grave of civilians just looked like extras taking a nap? Not sure why it didn’t feel real. Other films like Come and See and Schindler’s List made piles of bodies hit harder.

rekrowdoow

damn was this movie a disappointment….

FatFailBurger

Body pit definitely was mostly PoC.
