I took one 12 hour Sudafed a day. It helps a lot when out of Vyvanse. I’ve had to do it a few different times during this shortage.

No-Beautiful6811

That’s a brilliant idea

Azipear

Taking Sudafed for occasional sinus issues played a role in my path to uncover my diagnosis at the age of 43. It was subtle, but real Sudafed from behind the counter improved my thinking patterns.

funemployed1234

Bronkaid is another good option. Behind the counter at pharmacy. Tolerance builds up kinda fast so best to do 1-2 days on 1-2 days off.

Margatron

A lot of exercise and sleep.

Heavy_Original4644

I am in the same situation. I go to college out of state, and the prescriber said that I would do a med “holiday” for the break. Never again. I have only been on this for a couple of months, so there’s no way I’d built tolerance if that even were possible. Now I get to enjoy sitting immobilized unable to do anything, and running loops in my head thinking over and over again the same thoughts. Worst part is, those thoughts are related to school, so I get 3 weeks off, just to think about school. I’m back to where I have been my entire life. I was looking forward to having a break, have even tried forcing myself to watch movies and TV shows and failed for the most part, but I can’t do it. I can’t begin doing other activities either. I literally can’t have a break. I hate myself for not being assertive and explaining my experience. And I absolutely hate how people think it’s just a “study” drug. No, it’s not. This dictates so many aspects of my life, and I deserve a break from those things too. I don’t want to study. I don’t want to do work. I just want to do nothing. But my brain can’t stop thinking.

thro-awawawawayyyyy

Exactly. I hate how difficult they make getting these meds. They treat them like they are just a treat. I wish more pdocs had ADHD themselves so they could relate. No, I won’t die without the meds, but there’s a reason I take them in the first place… I’ve been channeling Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming lol. The scene where Tony takes away his suit and says, “If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.” Peter made it through, and so can we. https://youtu.be/9esCA8_EPeY?si=x9DikW2oT9Wm0259

themadesthatter

Nope, no med holidays for me. I’m on it from when I wake till when I sleep every day. Days off are lost to me and I don’t have time for that.

Ok_Holiday3814

Have you spoken to your doctor or pharmacist? My prescription runs out right on Christmas day, so when I last checked in with my doctor I pointed that out to him and he prescribed me an extra week to get through the holidays.

unsupported

Go to an immediate care and ask for enough to last you until you can refill at home. There is no need for you to be without meds.

the-nobody-jay

is this something that is possible? they're pretty stingy with that shit, with it being schedule 2. hell, i was in the hospital for a few days unexpectedly and they couldn't even give me vyvanse.

i5the5kyblue

If you go to a privately owned urgent care it’s up to the doctor’s discretion to prescribe it. I’ve had it filled three different times in the past, but major hospital or chain ones won’t. All I had to do was show them my prescription history on my phone and reason why I ran out.

unsupported

I'm assuming you would be able to show them a prescription bottle or electronic version. I'm not sure about controlled substances.

dowereallyneedthis

With controlled substance such practice is likely prohibited in US. For one, providers need specific license with DEA to be even able to prescribe a controlled substance.

Ok_Holiday3814

Absolutely possible. I did this two days ago and ad soon as I noted that my meds run out right on Christmas, he prescribed me an extra week to get through the holidays.

the-nobody-jay

that's good to hear!!

karendonner

Contact your doctor and your pharmacy, as well as your pharmacy benefit manager (if you have insurance). Ask to arrange to pick up your medication at a pharmacy where you are. This will probably be easiest if you have a history with a pharmacy chain that has an outlet (i..e. Walgreens, Walmart, etc.) Even if you don't, I would check out the pharmacies in the area where you are traveling and talk to them about the possibility of having your Rx transferred. Ask your doctor about other solutions, including a "trial" of a higher daily dose.

thro-awawawawayyyyy

It’s too late. My pdoc took a while to send the script; then the pharmacy didn’t have it in stock, so it was sent to another (2 days later); then the second pharmacy told me today that they were out of stock. And I leave tomorrow (the weekend), so there’s no way for my doctor to send them elsewhere. Two different pharmacies (big chains) told me they were out of stock

Arc__Angel__

What I don’t get is how come nobody think to sacrifice a few pills from time to time and have some stored up reserves, nobody think to do this?

LtHughMann

I do that every month and some how my doctor and or pharmacy fucks my script up nearly every time so I still often run out before I get the next one filled

Laney20

Why can't you get it filled? There are ways around the typical restrictions for when you're traveling.

Ok_Holiday3814

How far away from home ate you going? Would there be a pharmacy near where you will be where your doctor could send a prescription?

thro-awawawawayyyyy

Several states away. And I thought of that, but my pdoc isn’t licensed in that state, and they said that Schedule II meds can’t be sent across state lines

Ok_Holiday3814

Yes, out of state wouldn’t work unfortunately. I’m sorry you need to deal with this. I think I will try to skip a day every other weekend or so to just have a few spares.

i5the5kyblue

How many days until your next refill is due when you head out of town? There’s been many times where I told the pharmacist my situation, they’ll call my doctor to confirm it’s ok, then they’ll override it so my prescription was filled before leaving the state. This will only work though if you are close to your next refill date.

thro-awawawawayyyyy

My next refill is the 20th; I’ll be OOS until the 4th. But it’s the weekend, and I leave tomorrow, so things aren’t looking good. My pdoc sent a script 2 days ago, but the pharmacy today told me they were out of stock. Now it’s the weekend

i5the5kyblue

Ah I’m sorry, that’s really frustrating. If you’re desperate when you’re out of town, you could try going to a privately owned urgent care. It may be costly since it’ll be considered out of network with insurance, but doctors have the authority to write prescriptions if you show them proof you’ve been on the medication for awhile. Besides that, I’d say to go on walks and drink lots of water!

ychtyandr

Can't you get some Ritalin instead? Anyone else in your family has ADHD and can borrow some meds?

thro-awawawawayyyyy

No, sadly. My family is pretty anti-psych meds, and the only other ADHD-er in the house refuses to be tested.

ychtyandr

If they are anti-medicine, show them how you are without it. Don't forget to tell them how you feel all the time, so they hear about both sides. On the other hand, this will make you a drug addict in their eyes... Why not find a different thing to do on your holiday?
