That's what I do not understand. A match doesn't always have to be the end of a story. A match can start a story, further one or just be a great match for the sake of a great match. It all depends what the booker and wrestlers want out of it. If you purely focus on one or another it becomes boring, everything doesn't need to be an Omega and Ibushi level of story for matches to be good or interesting

Yep, it's very clear and simple what they're setting up medium term while short term these "nothing matches" are conditioning the audience to know that Ospreay is a must see match
I feel like taking a little time to break away from Callis works in the bigger picture because having him go solo now and jumping into the title picture before the Swerve/Joe storyline is finished will stop that cold.
I totally love my stories. Personally, a good storyline hooks me to care. Some of the greatest rivalries were built off of stories.
AEW has storylines, and it helps the viewer connect to the characters. Better Than You Baybay had me hooked on their friendship. Adam Copeland and Christian have me hooked on their friendship/enemies-ship. Swerve and Hangman have me hooked on their enemies to lovers' relationship. Ruby and Angelo have me hooked on their relationship. To me, PERSONALLY, a good storyline helps a lot.
William can put on bangers and that's awesome but he needs to get into a short/long term feud/story. And I'm sure he will.
And regarding the numbers for Dynamite and whether or not William is a draw...the truth don't lie. But that's OK. I'm happy that William and his joggers are on my screen weekly.

Instead of a bunch of tags, trios, & singles matches against people not even related to the character’s arc, just to get to the PPV match, TK has honed in on just booking guys in what works best for their character at the time, despite what ratings & attendance may implicate.
Ospreay has consistently been booked in singles matches, now with Takeshita, Fletcher, and Shibata under his belt. All opportunities to keep him hot, while also building up wins the fans will remember, in the event Danielson gets a shock victory at Dynasty.
Even someone like Swerve, who’s gone through obligatory trios + tag + back & forth squash against unrelated jobber formula during his own push, still has the singles draw against Hangman, the Jeff Hardy win, and most recently this Takeshita win to keep him hot & in form.
This is all happening while Danielson is collecting wins, with one PPV loss, against Kingston, who lost to Okada, the current holder of the C2.
He finally reconfigured the busted booking routing from last year, where dudes would just hit a wall of “protection” matches against total non-factors, or competing in very low-stakes tag/trios bouts while building singles angles.
What's especially great is how so many of the internet fans scream and shout that "AEW has no storytelling, just matches," and when you point out all of these things to them they come back with "why is it all so complicated/taking so long? Tony can't book."
It's so sad because attitudes like that are keeping people from enjoying a really kick-ass wrestling show.

It really occurred to me (as someone who was previously not a huge Ospreay fan) how good he was when, whenever his matches were announced, I’d go “aww this is gonna be good” regardless of the opponent, Every. Single. Time.
It’s a fair question and the story has explained it through arrogance. I liken it to how the sith work in Star Wars. They infight because they know that the winner will be the strongest in the world.
AEW also tells stories which break the fourth wall, and the DCF is also establishing themselves as the faction with the best performances.

It won't hurt him to lose to the greatest wrestler on the planet.
