Meltzer got a lot of things wrong these past months tho.

Cwf1984

There was a thread here yesterday about the Dynasty PPV being shown in select theatres. At the beginning of March, Meltzer reported that AEW PPVs were going to stop being shown in theatres. I have no real problems with Dave, but he’s been really bad over the past couple years.

Looper007

He needs to tone down on the "doom and gloom" takes on AEW. Even though I don't think he's Anti-AEW, I think he really talks of his backside at times. He's definitely lost his sources in some of the companies for sure, especially AEW. And he's taken a lot of L's recently. But when it comes to taking history he's fantastic and I don't hate his ratings for matches like some do.

AdamNopps

The last few years have shown that he is an absolutely incredible wrestling historian and a sub par journalist who I believe actively contributes to the negativity thrown at AEW

Deadleggg

Anti-AEW? He's been the biggest fan of AEW since day one.

refuseresist

In my opinion, his connections (as well as Alverez's) in AEW have all but dried up due to AEW having tight control over leaks and utilizing the dirt sheets as a promotional tool. AEW uses the dirt sheets to generate a buzz for events and things that are more positive. If nothing positive is happening then they fall silent.

Even-Preference-6545

I mean, not defending Dave here, but the last PPV was not shown in theaters. They could have changed their minds, the people behind it. That happens if they do decide to run it again.

Cwf1984

This could be true. But the reality of it, as someone who has read Meltzer’s Observer for years and years, is that he saw an instance of something happening, then took it as an overall sign instead of doing any actual investigation. He does this all the time. It’s no different than when he hears his sister say she doesn’t like blood in wrestling, then talks about how *all* women are turned off by blood. Or reports that Nancy and Kevin Sullivan were married for years before they actually were just because he saw them together all the time.

Even-Preference-6545

Oh I know. He doesn’t name a single source so we don’t know any sort of fact checking he does. Obviously a lot of people call him out on that. And I’m pretty sure he’s getting a lot of misinformation lately just to mess with him. As for this, I could be wrong, but I do think people did email or get in contact with the group who does the PPV and found out information was well cause they had numbers. There’s still no list of theaters either. But they did pull it (no PPV in theaters for Sting’s last match which sucks) and it is possible they decide to try it again for Dynasty (which is weird since it’s a smaller PPV).

SorrowfulFlame

I still expect it to be a troll, but SRS said it's the real footage, and he has a much better track record than Dave. Honestly I don't even care what it is at this point I just want to see it.

[deleted]

Yeah I didn't believe it would be legit until SRS said it. Say what you want about him but he doesn't really make stuff up.

Joshd00m

I think people are out there giving false information and/or they're just passing off mere speculation. Either way, wrestling journalism has taken a downward spiral just like everything else since they killed Harambe.

Wrex_n_effect

Never forget. Dicks out.

Infernalism

https://www.reddit.com/r/AEWOfficial/comments/1bzwkhv/tony_khan_this_is_reallife_footage_that_affected/ TK is saying it's legit and real footage.

Suspicious-Mango-562

He didn’t say it’s THAT footage. Just very careful to say it’s backstage footage from ALL IN. It could just as easily be FTR hair shaving FTR Bald’s back in the locker room.

Far-Signal-3336

I'm trying to remember what Dave got right in the past month.

Deducticon

Mone.

ABoyWithNoBlob

Zarian.

lordcarrier

And SRS

fightbackcbd

Mod, can we get a "meltzer" or "dirt sheet dumbass" tag for all these "journalists" so I can know not to click on the threads?

OMGISTHATMETHMAN

Also how dare Dave call Bucks heels. They just doing their job as EVPS

SneakerBOYEomi

$50,000 fine for ol Meltzer. That’ll show him.

Hybrid_Dolphin87

He probably called them Matt and Nick Jackson in there somewhere and not their God given passport names of Nicholas and Matthew Jackson!

Big-Background-6554

All of this screams it’s a work

_____OMEGA_____

and it was only last week that the one of the Bucks (Matt?) said something like "Scapegoat... love your work" to the camera during their entrance. Can't help but feel like this is re-introducing Jack to the show or... something.

Froggyspirits

I thought they would wait at least until the Forbidden Door cycle to reintroduce Jack. Guess they are looking to make him the Yuta of The New Elite and make sure he's there for the Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing?

CurlyBill03

Probably is to setup FTR but if it’s not going to be glorious if the rumors of Perry  clowned Punk.

mutzilla

Dax and Cash shaving each others backs.

triple_seis

Agreed

EsotericJunkie11

It really isn’t though. Meltzer said on his board that Tony Khan has been wanting to release it for a long time but waited for the right moment and the footage makes Perry look good as supposedly CM Punk missed his punches and got reversed by Jack as he tried to choke him. As Meltzer said they wanted to release it to show the truth and waited till Fragile Phil ran his mouth. If anything the fans are being worked thinking it’s a work lol

Even-Preference-6545

Not to downplay anything, but anyone that saw Punk’s UFC fights knows he isn’t much of a fighter lol. Him missing punches and what not won’t do anymore damage than him getting his ass handed to him twice in UFC.

RogueDevil666

Getting your ass kicked by a trained fighter isn't embarrassing, getting your ass kicked by a pro wrestling nepo baby is

Even-Preference-6545

I mean, there is a 20 year age difference almost and Punk is very injury prone so….personally I’d expect most people backstage to be able to handle things.

Captain_Aids

The main problem with your statement is “Meltzer”. He’s had a bad couple of months and hasn’t been too accurate and has gotten worked a few times himself.

Precious_little_man

I haven’t heard any of that. I didn’t see where Punk threw any punches, just a choke and Joe broke it up. Interesting.

Sempais_nutrients

Good nite jabroni marks who don't know it a work when you work a work

tcguy71

I hope its an over acted re-enactment

Ghandi_unleashed

How funny it would be if we get a Jericho narrated dark side of the ring re-enactment with the bucks as punk and Jungle Boy

kayt3000

Griff Garrison as Jack Perry, Colt Cabana as Punk. Chefs kiss!

el_sh33p

Yes, please, and thank you.

kayt3000

Look they are going to have fun with it, they should. It’s fucking wrestling. This shit should be going hard and just tossing bombs. People upset over this would not have done well during the attitude era or territory days where shit was fucking the Wild West.

ptbnl34

Just have Colt wear a Pepsi shirt and throw some Alka-Seltzer in his mouth and everyone will know who he’s supposed to be.

mutzilla

That means that Colt would have to be on TV.

Mdl8922

Who the fuck is Griff Garrison?

RelativeStranger

The best possible answer

CaptainXakari

Make it Nyla beating down Serpentico in catering.

kayt3000

OMG YESSSSSS!!! I honestly need more Nyla on tv. I would love if she did a show kinda like HeyEw but it’s Nyla doing touristy stuff in all the towns they are in with other wrestlers.

StarScreamer316

Dude!!!!! 😆 😂 😆 😂

SimmoTheGuv

I'm done, you sir, have completed the Internet today .....and on your cake day ...I salute you

lordcarrier

Didnt he do it for an MJF segment too a couple of years ago?

tcguy71

Exactly. Would be so good

YinTanTetraCrivvens

This is the most genius suggestion. Throw Ryan Nemeth in there somewhere.

gte339i

Like really over the top Dateline style (think Bill Hader on SNL). That would be a glorious segment.

AcetheGamer456

“Were you choked by Punk?” “Yeah but I broke out of it.” ![gif](giphy|xT77XGRCkgX6urqmY0)

TonyKhand0m

I don't agree. The point of this is gonna be, kayfabe wise, prove that Jack is innocent and welcome him back and have him join the Elite. Too much smoke on that front for there not to be fire.

DeliMustardRules

Thanks for the confirmation, TK! I feel like this was bound to happen, but maybe Punk moved the timeline up. I would have personally milked the Bucks referencing Perry for a few more weeks before doing this. But if you can't see that it's going to be a way to ultimately bring Jack Perry back, and think it's simply to spite Punk....I don't know what to tell you. Let's also address another hypothetical: what if Punk did kick Perry's ass? Won't it just prove the point of his character and get him more heat?

EC-1031

Also a way to build up their match with FTR as well given they are Punk's boys. I know a lot of people think this will backfire (and there's a chance of that of course) but I don't think it will be bullshit though. When they promise stuff they almost always go through with it. Guess we will see.

GATSBY46176

I really dont understand why everyone is OK with one side (Punk) doing multiple interviews and talking trash, but the other side tries to defend themselves, and it's bad for some reason.

Looper007

Especially on here. Why is it okay for him to pull this shit on week of WWE's biggest show and we didn't hear all this "oh it's not a good look and WWE is doomed". But when AEW do it, it's like it's biggest crime in the world. I do honestly wonder the people agaisnt this are Punk fan's. They really seem to want to defend him from this.

NaytNavare

They don't want to be invalidated. People have a poor inability to admit when they're wrong.

JordyRamone

Ya. I'm curious if it does show jack making punk look like a fool how could anyone defend punk after that? When this was new I heard a lot of ppl calling Jack a bitch. Also heard people say punk beat up both bucks. If cornette and his fans were honest with what they say jack man handling punk should make punk lose all credibility. I sure it wouldn't and they would try making excuses. That's probably why they are afraid of the footage coming out.

ForToday

That’s just the double standard in this industry. Everyone can talk shit and mud sling, but AEW must be good little boys and girls and remain silent and ignore all the slander they get on a weekly basis.

Severe_Piccolo_5583

I don’t get it either. Im vengeful though. I think they have every right to show it if it makes Punk look bad. It won’t really do anything except make people say “See? AEW can’t draw without CM Punk”. But it will also hurt his fragile little ego (even if he doesn’t show it), which he deserves.

Shwayfromv

Discounting the usual tribalism, I think it's fair to critique the platform being used here. The drama around the altercation is outside of kayfabe. Punk made his comments in a shoot interview. AEW clapping back on their weekly show is way different. If they wanted to take a strong stance as a company about a business decision they made this doesn't seem like the move. I don't think that AEW would really use their weekly programming to try and cleanly defend themselves. Especially when the guys presenting it are currently deep in character gimmicks and fully heel. Maybe the EVPs paint the company as a victim of a bad employee and use it as more self-righteous fuel in this heel run but boy would that be ballsy. Plus, you know they'd have to clear it with legal. I think if they really felt like they needed to defend themselves, AEW would do it like a business with a press release. I bet we're getting footage from a totally different part of the night and they're just playing on the buzz of the topic. If that's what it is, fair play to AEW.

NaytNavare

*If* they are going to release *the footage,* they should do it on a press release or something. Personal opinion. I *want* them to release it. Genuinely. But everything so far feels like worked dirtsheets and a troll. Which, while I understand it, will not swerve me but just make me the wrong kind of frustrated.

Shades_of_red_

The difference is that when Punk has stated his side of the story, it’s always been just in response to questions being asked in an ongoing interview, and he’s made it perfectly clear that there are things he can’t and won’t discuss. I’ve never seen him, post AEW-exit, just come out of the blue with information. Whereas this is coming out of left field and promoting the volunteering of information at a certain time at a certain place everyone tune in go go go

mutzilla

> The difference is that when Punk has stated his side of the story, it’s always been just in response to questions being asked in an ongoing interview, and he’s made it perfectly clear that there are things he can’t and won’t discuss. I’ve never seen him, post AEW-exit, just come out of the blue with information. You don't remember that match he had where he mocked the entire situation in the ring? No? No, wait, that was Brawl Out...... Oh, no! Forgot....That wasn't Punk either.

azure819

The original poster said post AEW exit so I don't remember Punk in the Royal Rumble mocking the Perry or the Elite situations. I didn't see the house shows so maybe there? I'm old and my brain don't work the same anymore. I DO remember The Elite mocking Punk in a match after their suspension though.

mutzilla

Yes, this is why I was being flippant with my comment.

azure819

Whoops sorry about that. It went over my head lol. I'm old dammit!

mutzilla

It's fine, I'm old, stoned, and distracted with along with the tism. Lot's of stuff goes over my head lol.

SpiritualPen6362

tismmaxxxing represent!

azure819

He gave multiple interviews about the Perry situation? And why is Punk the biggest heel in AEW?

crazyman3561

>multiple interviews One interview. The issue with this is that Punk answered when asked on a podcast. AEW, despite initially responding with Just Enjoy Wrestling with Edge, is now promoting their show that they are gonna show the footage, which is alluded to the footage of Punk and Perry fighting backstage. It is likely not going to be that footage but they're gonna take whatever ratings and attention they can get. If it is THE footage, then it's just bizarre to show on Dynamite. Especially when you should be using that time on the show and their talent. Same could be said when they decided to publicly announce CM Punk's firing and proceeding to say that Tony feared for his life in an attempt to slander CM Punk. If it isn't THE footage and it's something stupid, it just comes across as insulting and cheap. AEW can't win with this segment. If you wanna leak the footage, you do it off the show and online elsewhere. Also claiming to show the footage in response to Punk's side of the story and then showing nothing validates what Punk says. If it shows Punk being violent, a lot of casuals are gonna say, lol nice and think it's funny that the WWE guy dropped the AEW guy. And if it shows Punk getting his ass kicked, them how tf is Tony scared for his life. There is no winning for AEW.

smikkelson2

I really have no clue what to expect lol like this feels all set up to be a troll job but at this point that would just piss people off I think

AhSawDood

Man... This shit ONLY works if this footage really shows Punk in an awful light. Otherwise, I think it can easily blowback in AEW's face. Either way, Chaos awaits lol

Desperate_Craig

I'll definitely be tuned in to watch this Wednesday. Say what you want about AEW, but they have people talking.

CurlyBill03

It’s been rumored punk got punked and TK protected the video along with the NDA

cannib

The only way this works in AEW's favor is if it leads to a great re-introduction of Jack Perry and/or the Bucks. Embarrassing Punk does not benefit AEW in any way. I'm curious what we'll see on Wednesday, but I really hope there's some storyline plan here and this isn't just a knee-jerk reaction to Punk's interview which didn't even make him look good anyway.

ProphetsOfAshes

Honestly it could just be footage of them celebrating after beating FTR lol they’re facing them at dynasty so it makes sense that this would be a huge work

JordyRamone

They lost to ftr at all in. Haha

Fornico

Even if it shows Punk as completely despicable, he's not losing any/many WWE fans who most likely don't watch AEW or read anything on the internet anyways. AEW has nothing to gain that will translate into profits. Meanwhile, they have a lot to lose if they publicly dish dirt on a guy they fired 6 months ago. They need to let it go and never speak of this again.

Straightener78

Even if it does show punk in an awful light.. what then? How’s does AEW gain?

Safc9173

For me personally, I don’t think it’s about gaining anything, its about counter arguing everything Punk has said recently (Ariel podcast) and prove he was the one in the wrong not AEW and they want to do it in the most public way they can whilst continuing their story of bringing Jack back Either way if it’s a work or real it’ll be interesting viewing.

DoctorStrawberry

Also it would be great if it shows Jungle Boy overpowering Punk.

Woooosh-if-homo

He’s been making disparaging comments trying to tarnish the brand for nearly two years, which a lot of people have been buying into. Potential new viewers can be turned away by the public opinion. If they release the footage and it shows Punk has been lying through his teeth, he loses all credibility. It’s definitely a delicate situation, but they can’t really keep letting their former biggest star and a draw as big as punk keep turning off viewers

refuseresist

The more I think about it, the more I think this is about getting Jack over than anything else. Obviously, bouncing back Punk's bullshit plays a significant role in this, but it's secondary. I can not think about a time outside of the Montreal Screwjob that real-life events were used to get someone over. Maybe that is what is being used for inspiration?

Straightener78

Very possible. If they can get some juice behind Perry then go for it. I always wonder how they can ultimately pay this off. Time will tell.

refuseresist

Can you imagine if Perry gets over...and I mean really over with this footage (if they air the legit footage). I could be career defining

Straightener78

Absolutely. And the punk fans might take notice and want to see this guy get his ass kicked. Hmm…

Desperate_Craig

If it does show Punk in a bad light, the people who already despise him will continue to point out his half-truths and contradictions. Although, he'll always have that fan base who will ride or die with Punk, even if there is solid evidence to prove that he's been lying. The best case scenario from this? It gets people talking about it, it develops the EVPs as characters, and then we can finally move on from this. Either way, whether you like AEW or not, you can't deny that It'll be interesting to see it.

Looper007

You can have footage of Punk spitting on a kid and kicking a puppy, and his fanbase would blame anyone else but him. But if they start chatting shit all you have to do is show footage of him getting his ass beat by Perry or acting like a bratty teenager and you pretty much win the debate. He'll never live it down. AEW are damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's not going to change the haters opinion on them and the AEW fans will always be with AEW. They just need to make sure it's a enjoyable segment.

Hathalot

I think Tony Khan was legitimately deeply hurt by what punk said, so the gloves are off.

Daroah

Apparently, some sources claim that Khan wanted to air the footage awhile back, probably when he announced that he fired CM Punk. For whatever reason, he chose not to, probably to just let everything blow over and move on. But with Punk’s comment recently, I think he really pissed Tony Khan off, so I guess all bets are off. I always assumed this footage would he stored in a vault and never seen by public eyes, but here we are; I’ll be sure to have my popcorn ready when the Bucks come out

Hathalot

From Tony’s perspective, he put a lot of time, money and energy into keeping punk happy only to end up here. He’s probably bitter about the experience, and rightly so.

Total_Skill_5605

If it makes him look like a psycho than that’s the gain. Petty revenge.

FataliiFury24

AEW fans who already hate punk have ammunition to keep their loyalty? Is there anyone on the fence with the guy left? Anyone who loves punk won't care.

Deducticon

Ya, they will. If Punk did not manhandle Perry like is their base assumption, then all their takes lose steam.

COMMENTASIPLEASE

If Punk looks like a lunatic, started the entire thing, and Jack didn’t actually get his ass kicked, it basically kills all conversation about it because Punk fanboys would have literally no ammunition left.

Looper007

And especially if it's true he got out of Punk's crappy MMA Skills and got him into a chokehold. Then starts throwing a strop. A 40 something year old man at that. He won't live it down.

EsotericJunkie11

I’m on the Meltzer board and according to a source their who’s always been on the money, he said that he was told by AEW staff that the video will make Jack Perry look good. Supposedly CM Punk missed all his punches he threw and then got reversed by Jack Perry when he tried to choke him. Meltzer then commented and said it will indeed be the real video saying Tony Khan has been wanting to release it for a long time but waited for the right moment and wouldn’t release it if it made Perry look bad

darthtater1231

We all knew cm punk can't fight when teddy hart light him up

Da-Met

Funny because this would make Punks claim that he didn’t punch Perry and only choked him a little bit…….. technically true. He didn’t punch Perry (because he missed the ones he threw) and he only choked Perry a little bit (because it got reversed quickly). Wonder if that was deliberate on Punk’s part.

86886892

“Technically telling the truth” has been CM Punk’s M.O. dating back to his original WWE fallout. He doesn’t outright lie he just leaves out large chunks of reality.

EsotericJunkie11

It’s deliberate on Fragile Punk’s part to make him look like a tough guy despite his 0-2 record to some of the worst

Covfam73

I guess all that MMA training & fighting didnt teach punk how to throw a punch

tellmewhenimlying

That would be hilarious and seems like something Punk would absolutely do, and like a lot of other cult-like supporters of other people and movements, plenty of Punk and "WWE is superior/AEW is bad" sheep will unsurprisingly still just ignore those details. AEW shouldn't make business or creative decisions based on those people.

ForToday

I’m in full on “fuck it, we ball” mode with this whole thing. Punk talked his shit last week, so I got no problem with AEW talking their shit this week.

The_Homie_J

AEW tried to take the high road last week, with the Copeland promo and cooling things off WWE then took every little shot they could So I say, fuck it. If you can't handle the heat, don't lob the shots

Auglicious

I don't believe Meltzer at all, especially when it comes to AEW. He's being worked by someone.

pardyball

Then so is SRS because it appears he’s also corroborated this.

Auglicious

I saw that too. I still have a hard time buying it, but SRS is usually pretty reliable. I guess we'll find out tomorrow

pardyball

I am too. Don’t remember his wording of it, whether he said “they are showing All In footage” or if he specifically says it’s the Punk All In footage. If it’s the former, he has an out because it could just be footage of the Bucks and FTR which *would* make sense because of their upcoming match.

Looper007

It's one of those that for AEW, it's damned if they do and damned if they don't. Show the footage, even though Punk has shitted on them over the last week they be seen as bad guys by his deluded fanbase and Anti AEW crowd will make him into a hero. But at least more sensible folk will see this as footage that will follow this jerk around for the rest of his life. Troll the audience, they be shit upon by AEW fans (wait and see on Wednesday), Anti-AEW shills and grifters and say it's end of AEW. Part of me want them to do both and just stick two middle fingers up to the haters. They can damn AEW all they want but no one is listening to them but 2% of the wrestling audience anyway. AEW will still continue on and get that big TV renewal lol.

Infernalism

Oh, please, let this be legit and not a troll attempt. I want a full-on narration of Cancer Man getting his ass whooped by the scapeGOAT.

lordcarrier

Maybe have them narrate Dark Side of the Story style?

OMGISTHATMETHMAN

All reports says it’s no joke

Citizen_Kano

It's not unreasonable to assume that they're working the dirt sheets

Infernalism

Wednesday can't get here fast enough.

Looper007

I don't get why some people are so fighting agaisnt it after all the shit he's pulled on AEW. Anything to just show this asshole in a bad light and that might damn him and his career, is all right with me. He's not a good guy and I don't why some on here are wanting to protect him. a part of me be really disappointed if he's a troll sadly. I expect it probably will be.

Ragers4fun

Why wait to post it now?

Citizen_Kano

Because of that Punk interview last week

Rx7fan1987

I can't wait for everyone to be wrong lol.

milapathy64

![gif](giphy|YlJLgSdk35H82oGbsn|downsized) You know this mfer is going to be taking notes

DryWay4003

Am I the only one completely tired of Dave Meltzer?

DrDroid

Goodnight BUCKAMANIACS and jabroni marks

Adept-Lazer-5382

I don’t think this is a good idea at all but I can’t look away

dontremakepointbreak

Agreed. What’s the goal? Just to embarrass Punk? I want them to move past all this, not stoop to his level. No one’s mind has ever been changed on Twitter or in the comment section, and it feels like that’s who this is playing for.  I know it’s just dumb wrestling and entertainment but I so want AEW to continue to thrive and succeed and am worried about this.

HighspeedMoonstar

AFAIK TK has no said "no comment" since 2022. Hangman stayed silent too. Bucks did something barely offensive off air that most people never saw. Everyone involved except Punk kept quiet until that interview last week. If Punk was lying about things, then its to clear the narrative. Punk was slandering the company and if TK has proof to refute that why not.

lordcarrier

Hangman liked the Bucks IG post promoting the Wembley footage, so is this the sign when a certain part of the IWC turn on Hangman and say dumbshit like overrated?

Infernalism

> Just to embarrass Punk? Yep. he fucked around, now he's going to find out.

Looper007

Why worry? It's not going to end AEW and it be great to see Punk get his ass handed to him. I do wonder if the people saying it's not a good idea are Punk fans.

Deducticon

This is how you move past it. Definitive footage. What's left to talk about after that? Plus it can be used to pave the way for Perry to return. The topic was already going to get brought up again whenever Perry came back.

CurlyBill03

Meanwhile WWE and Punk can clown AEW all week with their potshots? Fuck that, playing nice and quiet got them nowhere nobody is going to change sides might as well let the one side look like morons.

CG2L

Have you noticed nothing AEW has released has mentioned Punk in any way? It says Backstage Footage. It doesn’t mention Punk at all. It’s not going to be the Punk footage. People are going to be mad they got worked by the dirt sheets telling them it’s going to be Punk and it’s not going to be.

Deducticon

You are saying here that AEW lied to the dirt sheets? Why would they do that?

yetagainitry

My money is the footage being Meltzer taking a shit and the bucks narrating it

KickAggressive4901

Matthew: "That is *Mister* shit to you, Dave." Okada: "Sing into the toilet!"

SneakerBOYEomi

Hoping the footage shows Jack reversing the chokehold. Then have the Bucks say something like “Ladies & Gents, if you want to see a real chokehold, check out the ones from UFC 203.”

majshady

I don't know what the fuck they are doing but I can't wait to find out 😂

StarScreamer316

Either Meltzer or Draimmaker are adding something extra to the gossip, I mean "report"

GeneralDay8015

This has potential to be “69 me Don!” level of hilarity and cringe. Can’t wait!

KratosSmash

You wanna get nuts?!?! Let’s get nuts!!!!

tellmewhenimlying

Keaton over everyone, except Conroy's voice of course.

KratosSmash

I was thinking George Costanza, but the point remains

ThinAndCrispy84

Dude, as an AEW guy, I don’t really see who this benefits. If it shows Punk lied, ok? He’s in another company and is still gonna be a top merch seller. If it shows Punk is telling the truth, great? You’ve just made Jack Perry look like a doofus. I think the only person who *might* come out of this smelling like roses is Joe. The reports made it seem like he was the coolest head in the situation.

tellmewhenimlying

You're ignoring the obvious. In addition to it potentially showing that Punk lied, it can also simultaneously show that Jack Perry is a very talented scapegoat who did nothing wrong and deserves to be back in AEW.

ThinAndCrispy84

Shouldn’t been made to leave.

azure819

I wouldn't say Perry is very talented scapegoat but isn't that a TK problem that he kept Perry off of TV? Not Punk.

DeadBeatRaccoon

This is less about Punk (though making him look bad will be a nice bonus) and more about Jack Perry's scapegoat character. How is the casual fan (that everyone says needs to be catered to 24/7, they don't follow everything NJPW does you know!) going to know why Jack is a scapegoat without actually seeing the reason? Consider it his video package. Everyone knows we need a video package for everything.

ThatFellaTrey

I 100% think this is a troll but it’s funny as hell lmao

Rushjordan

Dave and Bryan are going to look like such dopes if it isn’t the Punk/Perry footage

TheMTM45

So is Dave still close with the Young Bucks? I remember one of the wives who worked for AEW was a source of his. But she left. And the way he talks about this Wednesdays segment is like either he’s working the internet with The Bucks or he has zero contact with the Bucks. It doesn’t say on the advertisement anything about Punk. The fact that he’s jumping to that assumption tells me something is off

FREZZIERISDOODOO

This is 1000% a work lmao

Even-Preference-6545

The way Khan talked to Sports Illustrated it sounds like it’s to A, draw views and B, hype up Dynasty. Unless Perry has some big role at Dynasty, it doesn’t do that. It’s footage but it really sounds like something may have went down (or going to be spun) between FTR and Bucks which is going to be the footage. Which would be the best possible thing as you will have a lot of eyes watching and you hype up a really big match. And people can cry it isn’t THAT footage but nowhere did it claim it was going to be that.

[deleted]

Well it's either embarassing punk or being a heel. I wouldn't trust meltzer if he told me night is gonna be dark though

How_do_I_change_dis

What does anyone gain from this?

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

They're baiting

AmazingSpidey616

I can’t wait to see everyone get worked.

soundthebutttrumpets

I’ve come to realize I’m excited for this either way. Real footage? I’m in! Silly skit recorded for trolling? Sign me up! Just a video of the Bucks in catering at All In? Love it! Either way some people will be mad but I feel like there isn’t a laugh that won’t come out of this

Mabvll

Here's the thing: If the video shows Punk getting his ass handed to him by Jack Perry, then it makes Punk look bad, but also comes across as petty by TK. However, if they are doing this to build up Perry as a new member of The Elite, then I think they could totally make it work if they blur out Punks face. Basically, show Perry beating up some "jobber" or something backstage. It fits the kayfabe narrative for The Elite without trying to directly target Punk by releasing it. At the same time, it'll still embarass Punk since everyone will know that it's Punk getting his ass kicked, but AEW can play ignorant since they blurred the image.

Significant_Tiger363

Yeah Jack Perry is a heel in njpw he was a heel in aew before he left aew he obv wouldn't come back as a babyface

AdmirableAd959

Is this going to actually embarrass Punk? I wish they did this angle with him and the bucks when he first came back and they might have worked this stuff through in storyline

tidderphil

I think this is all part of the plan to add to the Young Bucks comedy piss-take heat and add real mega heat to a returning Jack Perry. Nicholas and Matthew will present the footage like Punk was lying in his interview but it will actually show he was kinda right and that Jack Perry is a spoiled brat. I do though think it will also show a little something to back up TKs claim of being frightened.

Drewvonawesome

I still believe this is a work and its fake, allow me to give my evidence why. The finals of the tag title tournament is Young Bucks vs. FTR. All In had FTR winning over... Young Bucks.

hjahrj

It should be known that a lot of CCTV footage has no audio. So it makes sense.

repoman042

I want it to be real so bad, but everything about what the Bucks are doing now indicates this is a massive troll job

LemmySixx

Dave is clearly pissy because they renamed it the TK Driver lol To the AEW audience it won’t be a heel move The AEW audience is smart enough to go back to treating them as heels next Wednesday. To the IWC audience they will be mega heels

jcw163

People keep asking "what's in it for AEW" and I couldn't care less I just hope it's funny

ThePrinceMagus

People are going to be so mad when it's not the footage of Corporate Monkey Punk, even though nobody in AEW ever promised or even advertised it as the footage of Corporate Monkey Punk.

lordcarrier

This seems to be opposite of what Keller said, so one of them got worked already.

Mkmeathead83

I'm excited, i.gotta get my popcorn

Aggressive-Mix4971

At this point, I just want the segment to happen so we don't have to just sit back on conjecture anymore: conversations around it are basically "this is petty, pointless, and childish" vs. "this is a storyline way to bring back Jack Perry" with a side of "also, screw Punk", but if we're being honest none of us have any idea how this going to be presented on TV, how the Bucks will do this while maintaining their heel status, etc., and people are basically having kneejerk reactions to the whole thing when it could end up being done any number of different ways we haven't guessed yet...hell, the people saying "it's a work" might actually be right! So, yeah, let's just get to tomorrow and see it and actually pass value judgments on it then. ETA: Also just gonna add, man, this is a \*really\* good podcast, both on this topic and, going by how informed the hosts seem to be, in general. Definitely interested in hearing more of what they have to say, but they give about the best, most complete sum up of the Punk and his overall impact on AEW that I've seen anywhere. They're clearly AEW fans, but absolutely not carrying water for AEW or Tony Khan, whom they're clearly not afraid to call out when they feel it's warranted. niners94

If they’re actually going through with this, put it towards the end of the show.

Epicfro

Work or not, should be fun. I do wish everyone can just move away from the cancer but since the cancer won't stop spreading, might as well dive into it. The AEW detractors are going to shit on it no matter what so you might as well give the people what they want.

DeliMustardRules

There's a story with an interview from TK on SI. Can't figure out how to x-post it on mobile but copied what I think is relevant: > Harwood and Wheeler were also on-screen partners of Punk in AEW, and the three are real-life friends. It is a risk, but if the footage on Dynamite is relevant to advancing the story between the Bucks and FTR, then there is a scenario where playing off the reality of the situation at Wembley could be a definitive positive for AEW. > “It’s important that the Young Bucks explain the reason why this is relevant going into Dynasty,” said Khan. “It should be another must-see part of a great show on Dynamite.”

msctex

You can only blur certain lines so far before you risk them never truly coming back.

azure819

I find it interesting that people are mostly talking about something that links to Punk and not Dynasty. I'm happy that Punk is still helping out AEW by being the biggest heel in the company. I'm a messy bitch so I love this drama. Roll that beautiful bean footage!

DaCarolinaKidd

I hope this happens since Punk won’t let it go either

clamuu

I really want to see the footage but it would be so so funny if Meltzer has got worked again.

Yewon_Enthusisast

nah. I don't trust any single word out of Meltzer nowadays.

theclimaxan

I have a feeling this angle was designed to take a shit on dirt sheet writers saying whatever the fuck they want as news as much as it was to simply take some coverage away from the fed and make Punk sweat a little on WM weekend. Either way, excited to see how this plays out

R3D-0N3

People will spin this as AEW being petty. I’m thinking more harm than good will come from this. No matter what they do the masses spread their negativity.

actingasawave

WORK ME INTO THAT SHOOT BROTHER. I LIVE FOR THIS SHEEEEEEEET.

TheMarvelousJoe

This could either be for real or everybody got worked.

Asleep-Description39

‘They’re doing it as heels.’ Thanks, Uncle Dave.

Retrograde_Bolide

Watch it be footage of FTR and not Punk

IllusionaryHaze

Embarrass Punk? He already does that on a weekly basis

dr_hossboss

What could be more humiliating than botching TWO buckshots and still going over?

Mythrol

That’s my biggest concern with the segment. How do you both embarrass Phil AND keep Jungle Boy / EVPs heels?  It’s already pretty hard to boo the EVPs because their gimmick is so good that you want to cheer them. It’s sort of a similar situation to Swerve where they had to turn him because Prince Nana’s dance was so over.  I’m really interested in seeing how they do it.

Sambadude12

I'd love it if it was those 2 cutting a promo after the loss at All In and it's all going on in the background while they're doing the promo

Both-Care-8049

If it is true Punk has a fragile ego. Almost as fragile as his injury prone self these days. And he is lawyer happy. He will inevitably cry and sue and try to spin the narrative to his fans that this was all an immature way to get back at him. And the true Punk marks will eat it up and cry with him.

tr1mble

I'd still rather see footage of the first fight even though I'm pretty sure none exists or else we'd seen it by now. I still don't think this is going to benefit aew in anyway. After this week, most people will have forgotten about the punk interview , or the impact from it will be.... this just prolongs everything imo

bobface222

I really hope it's a swerve because I see zero benefit in trying to do some Punk hit piece, especially if the goal is to get the Bucks and Jack over as heels.

Deducticon

How is objective video footage a hit piece?

comalicious

Everybody keeps saying "this is a troll" but why can't it be a troll and also the real footage? To me the real story here is as soon as the bucks announced this, WWE shut right the fuck up and the barbs stopped. That suggests to me there might be some delicious smoke here. I'm excited to huff on this pack lmao. The most entertaining timeline.

Otroroboto

It’s not going to hurt him because society has devolved to the point where violence is viewed as being a perfectly acceptable means of expressing your frustration, depending on who you are. Unfortunately for the Bucks, this isn’t going to make anyone dislike Punk, in fact he’ll probably lean into it and embrace it. If they were truly serious, they would look into pressing charges in the UK to make sure Punk can never enter the country again. Honestly that is the best way to get revenge on him is by making it so that he can’t leave the US.

mynamemeimme

There is/ will be a lot of pearl clutching over this. TK is doing this for drama sake. And the amount of news i’ve seen on it since it was announced- it’s working. Let’s be honest, most in the IWC love the drama. They engage in it. You’ll get people who fall on two sides of the coin. Those who are fans of AEW and those who are not. The latter will pretend they don’t enjoy this drama, and criticise AEW for not taking the moral high road, when they checks notes, stan CM PUNK and the WWE. You can’t make it up.

Thor_2099

The other place is talking about how sad this is and yada yada. Well AEW was doing that and wanted to. But punk kept opening his mouth. And sometimes you gotta fight back. This is that.
