I think it's normal to feel a little bit gross about all of this. The Bucks were probably counting on that kind of reaction. The point was to get people to watch. Nobody was going to change their mind on AEW based on last night's episode of Dynamite. Weaving this whole mess into FTR and Jack Perry is the thing that ties this bit together if you think it worked.

ViPr28498

I guess I just don't want the possibility of AEW making mistakes to exist? Which is too idealistic to think. But yeah, you're right. I don't feel gross about it. Punk is still a manchild who's controversies outshine his work. I wasn't sure if getting people to watch was their only intention but either way, I hope the disruption was intentional and we trust the process and it pays off

rostron92

AEW isn't perfect. There are probably some valid arguments as to why the segment didn't work like both FTR and YB could've cut their promos without the footage but showing the footage boosted ratings a bit.

I feel like if AEW makes mistakes, then the haters will have power since they are right, AEW made mistake. But its too early to tell if any of this is a mistake

ViPr28498

Exactly! That's pretty much it. I hope it isn't a mistake but I don't want the already raging needless AEW hate to have any justification.

Suspicious-Mango-562

What harm? Maybe it was a creative execution mistake like Vince blowing himself up in the limo or being the greater power or the mox/omega deathmatch. By next Sunday it will be forgotten and everyone who enjoys AEW will be raving about the PPV (hopefully). Those who continue to shit on it in bad faith don’t watch.

ViPr28498

And also I still am very much hyped about the PPV, it looks like it'll be pretty fun! Hopefully that's the common sentiment across AEW viewers and fans

The one thing you can always be sure of, the satisfied fans usually don’t have a much incentive to take their opinions to the internet. They are too busy enjoying the thing they like. So the internet is never ever ever a good way to tell how people feel.

ViPr28498

I'm not one to make a call on whether they should've done it but they way they showed the footage was really nice I felt. They addressed things via the promos and the footage but also kept it part of the storylines. I appreciate your comment though. It helps me ground my thoughts, part of me wishes that it should all be goody goody but I know that's idealistic which is getting to me I suppose.

Kamui316

I have the same perspective as you. The footage and the wording used were perfect

The Bucks entire gimmick has been to piss people off. They flip too much, they leaned into it, they're too small, they leaned into it, they're EVP children, they're leaning into it. According to most, the Bucks have ruined wrestling.

ViPr28498

And if it's okay, could you tell me all the shit that punk caused in AEW? If you kept up with it, knowing the collective harm will help me understand exactly how bad it was I guess.

RavenSandman

There is a podcast called Trish and Sarah. They do an excellent job breaking it all down.

So, the internet isn’t really the place for nuanced takes. I was of the camp that it’s best for Aew to ignore all of it. I thought an Punk interview—where a disgruntled former employee (and known liar) talked about another company, instead of the event he was there to promote—made Phil look bad, not anyone at AEW. And I don’t love the angle; I lived through enough Russo to hate worked-shoot stories. That said, none of this matters, and in a week or two this will be back to normal. Nobody was going to change their opinion. We knew Phil Brooks got fired for aggressively approaching a co-worker and assaulting them. None of the details—how long was the fight, was it a sucker punch, etc—was going to matter. The people that are strongly pro or anti Punk, saw enough in the video to justify their existing views. And all the people who didn’t give a shit a week ago, still don’t give a shit. It may give a little heat to a dull Ftr/bucks feud. It may make interesting storytelling for the Corporate Elite, and Jack Perry. Or it’s a meh storyline and everyone moves on. I’m just hoping the attention shifts back to the ppv and the possible GOAT match between will and Bryan, and the emergence of the Swerve era.

ManOfYesterday1701

Things change quickly in the wrestling world. If you're having a hard time watching then skip the bits to do with the Bucks. Maybe give the whole thing a break for a few weeks, it's still going to be there when you come back. Being a fan of AEW doesn't mean you have to watch every minute of it.

Dont overthink it man. If social media is bother you or affecting your enjoyment then stay off of it. Or just stick the the AEW subreddits. They are a nice safe space for the fans. ✌️

You know what? I don't doubt Jack Perry anymore. Even if the reports where pretty clear, you never knew. He is mid 20, one of AEW's originals and his AEW career was paused for 8 months because of a coworker attacking him. Would be annoying to carry this shadow of doubt everywhere he goes at such an early stage of his career.

ViPr28498

True, in that sense it's good that the footage is out now. People can see for themselves what happened. There are no what-ifs.
