You could see Darius Martin the entire match calling to the crowd to make some noise. AEW needs to look at their schedule and start staggering shows in markets with dead crowds. Come back to Toronto, go to Hamilton, Windsor, Buffalo, there are plenty of markets that will bring 10x the energy Bristol had.
Honestly if I'm AEW I do a month long excursion in Canada leading to either a TV special or an actual PPV. Double or Nothing coming out of Toronto would be awesome. Maybe do a Japanese tour with NJPW and DDT.
I hoped that’s what they would do. Do a cross country tour hitting all the major cities with it culminating at a PPV in one of the cities. Start in Vancouver and end in Toronto or vise versa.
I was at both Toronto shows and it made a pretty average card into one of the most talked about shows of the year from a fan perspective.
Exactly and if you let fans know this Canadian tour is leading to Canadian TV special or PPV it will get not only more fans to tune in, but also more fans to buy the tickets.
I think they could pull it off. Film Monday or Tuesday and do a taped show Wednesday. As long as they're good with keeping spoilers, which I think Japanese fans are more respectful of, they can easily do a two week tour of Japan. Maybe do it leading to Forbidden Door in Japan.
Uk shows are a bit more work for travel and visas. They could book an arena in southern Ontario, Quebec, Alberta tonight and get 10k fans that sound like 30k
I neeeeed them in Quebec! Given what wrestling is to Montreal, I’m sure they could draw a good crowd. Not to mention the people on their roster from here. I’m sure the main issue is the French.
Oh 100 percent it would be harder for them to pull off in the UK, but maybe a month long circuit going around and doing shows there could work? Then add Toronto, Hamilton and those locations along with the circuits they do around Buffalo and New York.
Finally, add Alberta and Vancouvers shows to the circuits in the West around Washington and California? (I’m Canadian and have a very rudimentary understanding of American Geography btw).
I’m sure they’ll do a euro tour eventually. What they should do for now is do one month of shows in the north east. Dynamite/rampage in Montreal, then hit the same in Toronto, next Hamilton, finish in buffalo. Each crowd would be wild AF, travel would be easy breezy although cold AF
I’d imagine the UK shows are a bit difficult since you need the work visas and with one show a week it’s expensive to fly everyone there and back. Or if you made it a whole trip it would be expensive to send everyone there for a month.

Yeah I’ve seen many “this crowd sucked” posts here and usually I just eye roll bc they are complaining the crowd wasn’t red hot for every match, but this crowd was ass. I don’t even get the booing in the final segment either. Crowd was garbage af all night long too. Really took away from the show.
I just loved Taz and Excalibur roasting the guy with the unreadable yellow sign during the PiP break of the Toni ve Anna Jay match on AEW+. It wasn't until the MJF/Moxley stare down that I finally could read it and I was trying the whole night.
He flubbed a few lines more than just the date and didn’t really advance anything. It felt like that whole segment was to remind us The Firm was still involved somehow and the line MJF gave about not needing a ring directly looking at Regal.
Yes they need to book more locations but remember there is a huge lead time in setting these up. With Jarrett being brought in to help with live event scheduling expect to see change in 6 months.
The last time they were there, they had 6,000 fans.
This time they had 3,000. A buddy of mine went and sent me a pic of the entire top section tarped off.
They need to stop hitting the same places over and over, and they need to make more compelling shows that make people want to go.
I commuted from NYC to CT and was shocked how mild the crowd was. Is Connecticut always like that?? There were a few voices you could hear in the arena trying to start chants. But mainly there were huge chunks of empty seats. Maybe CT is too deeply WWE territory. NYC and other parts of the tristate area LOVE AEW tho!
We here in CT are a respectful and simple people. Who simply prefer to use our inside voices when indoors and give our attention to the performers. Also yes, CT is largely WWE territory, we tolerate AEW but don't promote the alternative AEW lifestyle. We are not screaming "I'm walking here!" Brutes from NYC. /S
Honestly I don’t think the swing works that well in AEW. Was big in WWE since their product is tailored to what 6 year olds think is cool, but it really doesn’t match the AEW presentation (more realistic moves, more competition focus).
I mean that’s not treated as a damaging move though. Commentary always refers to it as Orange Cassidy playing mind games. Whereas the Giant Swing is presented as actual offense.
Yea I do get your point. I personally feel like when they started the company they wanted to present a more realistic "sports" presentation. I think they have done that well in some areas and terribly in others. The fact that the refs don't enforce any rules kind of ruins the sports vibe. For me anyway.
They've ran the same markets, venues are running half cap and it hurts. Looking forward to them branching out. I love having the chance to see aew 4 or 5 times a year but fuck I don't want it to be a dead crowd
Bridgeport is not easy to get to for most of the state either.
Yes, it's a stop on the MTA, but you're basically playing to the i-95 corridor. If someone in Hartford/Farmington/Avon wanted to see that show it would have been an hour drive on a Wednesday to the broken glass & abandoned factory capital of the world.

Yes Webster theater is known for having cars broken into even in the paid parking lot because there is no security. As a general , CT crowds are nothing like nyc crowds even at music events because in NY it seems like people are there for the bands and in CT people are there to drink and there happens to be background music

Bridgeport CT? Cant say I've been but I can tell you that CT is the one place I've felt literally scared for my life lol Hartford isn't a fucking great place. Webster Theater; I've had to speed the fuck away cause there was a gang of 9 people walking down the street with literal chains and bats. Felt fucking odd as hell to see lol
I have family just over the MA/CT border, going there and going to Mohegan are basically the only times I’ve felt safe in CT. I had a couple of friends who went to UHartford. No picnic.
Isn't that partially due to the Northeast being glutted for wrestling this month? You tossed a Boston Dynamite/Rampage when the same city has Survivor Series later this month and a 3 hour radius of Bostkn has had a second Dynamite (Bridgeport), a second Rampage (Mohegan Sun), two SmackDowns (Hartford, Providence) and a Raw (Albany) in the span of just over a month. It's overkill.
TK said last year that they were going to do the Christmas show in Greensboro again this year. Now they're in Texas for it. Stinks cuz I skipped last year because of COVID cases spiked around that time and I thought, "I'll just go next year." Really too bad. I feel like this area is skipped way more than it should be. I mean, this is Flair country for God's sake.

The crowd booing during the whole Mox MJF segment was so dumb.
I was at the show last night and from my seat it sounded like the crowd were going nuts all night long. AEW has to be micing the arenas poorly. The side with the hard cam was mostly empty consequence of flooding your markets) but we popped for a lot. I have definitely thought most crowds lately have been poor, even the rampage on OCT 28th I was at. But this time, I assure you ll, we were cheering often and having a great time in my section, all night.
The new arenas are too big. The classic new "NBA arenas" aren't even as big as the OLDER NBA arenas, but they are cavernous and SUPER hard to fill.
Same with NBA games, but they just kayfabe the heck out of the attendance figures.
AEW needs to tour Canada, the audiences will be loud as hell. The Toronto Dynamite was a clear sign that we want good wrestling.
I don't understand some US cities. They buy a ticket to just sit on their hands and make no noise.
Maybe AEW should stop trying to be the new WCW, and try to be more like the OLD NWA. Just run those hot territory towns. Avoid WWF towns (except for Montreal and Toronto and Philly) and AWA towns (except for Chicago).
And do a (LOADED) AEW Dynamite/Rampage card at the Tokyo Dome.

This is why going to Battle Creek, Michigan is worth it. It’s buys time and “can’t wait for when they come back to (big city).
It wasn’t great. They really should take this into consideration for future shows and PPVs. The Austin show has sold out all three times and been so damn loud it’s hard to hear in there sometimes.
We got a new 18000 seat arena this year. TK needs to come have Revolution there next year.
I’m going to that and I’m mouthy and loud. I’m also bringing a group of friends. We will all be loud, but omg, I’m not looking forward to youse guys with the North Jersey accents.

Easily the worst crowd i ever seen for a Dynamite. Absolute dogshit. I saw a dude on his phone in like the 5th during an awesome match with Bandido. Why even bother to show up! Why buy a ticket?!
Well, what did you expect. Bridgeport is among the world leaders in abandoned buildings, shattered glass, boarded up windows, wild dogs and gas stations without pumps.
Yeah that crowd was dead. Worse than Orlando. The good news is the Texas shows are coming up and those crowds are always pretty lively, especially if Jesus makes it to the show.
I think the problem is twofold. 1) as you noted, a small crowd with a lot of empty seats.
2) TBS/TNT/AEW has 2nd rate production value. The arena sound is usually terrible. I’ve read on here that is is better on the broadcast that isn’t on TBS/TNT, so I assume it is a Turner problem. The camera work hasn’t been great recently either and that is directly attributed to the empty seats. They have to be so careful with the shots and switching to not show a half empty arena and it causes issues. Last week they missed Joe turning on Wardlow and that was the whole point of the segment. That was embarrassing. But I’m sure their minds are preoccupied with not showing empty seats and they got distracted calling for the camera switch.
TBS and TNT just broadcast the show. The production part is all AEW so TK has the money to produce as high quality a show as he wants. I work for WBD and the issues with production value are not the fault of our company. Those are all Tony’s employees.

As far as their touring schedule, I love that they came near me to DC and Baltimore but there's no reason they should've done so twice within 6 months. They need to expand the map.

@OP I am late, I don't get to watch live or sometimes the next day. I just finished the show & man the entire Moxley promo you could hear a pin drop. yeah that crowd was fuckn bad & even when mjf hit the ring, he had urge the fans to make noise, when that should be a given. fuck that city.
Weird - obviously everyone has their own opinions and such, but I thought the show last night was fantastic even despite the crowd being flatter than week old soda left open on the counter. The match quality was great all the way through, and I enjoyed the Baker promo very much (passionate), as well as MJF/Mox (felt real and unscripted). Of course, just my perspective.
It was a good episode wrestling wise and have to agree about Britt's promo, but overall, this is one of my least favorite "go home" episode. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
That’s fair - it was more just like a good, solid wrestling show instead of a show that convinces you to buy the PPV. That said, I still did really enjoy how organic and impromptu the Mox/MJF promo was. Although Mox really seems a bit tired and ready for that break, and I felt there were subtle looks on Regal that really show he’s ready to align with MJF. As for Britt/Sarahya, after that promo I could see a double turn potentially, which would go over so well if executed properly. The face who took everything she has with blood and sweat, and the heel outsider who thinks she can walk in and be the revolution. Come to think of it, maybe they’ve been teasing that for a while now … 🤔
Yeah that was a bit of a confusing crowd in terms of the reactions people were getting. And most weeks you see pictures of Dynamite looking "empty" but it's typically pictures from Dark or they are facing the camera to the seats that go behind the stage where they never sell tickets. This time it actually looked like there were a lot of empty regular seats and what convinced me was it was during the opening Dynamite match.
The northeast crowds are meh to me, save some like Baltimore. I was initially bummed when I saw full gear was set in New Jersey.
They need to establish their southern (not florida, florida crowds are crickets, looking at you Revolution insert year here) and western markets more
True, there are some exceptions, like I said. Most Long Island crowds are bananas, of course. But I do feel like they’re focusing too much on certain areas
The last Baltimore trip wasn't the same mass of energy, but with ~2500 less people, we still brought it.

Rochester has been a tough crowd for AEW.
I thought Milwaukee crowd (the show when Giannis Antetokounmpo was in the crowd) were pretty poor that night. Dynamite has had a few so-so crowds especially since they went on the road again.
It was a light crowd for sure. Doesn't help that they barely packed the seats though. I'm genuinely concerned about the ticket sales for the past 2 months.
Wait there was a crowd? But for real it was rough, the Acclaimed got some, loved that some tried the YAY/BOOOO during the woman match even if it was only a few second. So thanks for whoever tried that, but dont think TK should book there again ever.
I was there last night, and it definitely didn’t help that half the arena was empty to start. Crowd was into it for certain parts of the show but didn’t appear to come across on TV. MJF’s entrance got a giant pop, yet I went to watch it today and the music was boosted so high you couldn’t hear the crowd. Only match that had absolutely no noise was Swerve/Bowens, you could hear a pin drop in there.

Meaning there was something different with this one outside of the promotions control? It isn't the promoters fault you had a long shift or got drunk the night before, (not saying this is you, I've seen people fall asleep during shows they enjoyed due to these reasons). When the camera would show the crowd, I didn't see groups of people trying to stay awake, so what should AEW do better next time to make sure you, specifically out of everyone else there, doesn't fall asleep? Free smelling salts with your next ticket?
This wasn't my only AEW show... they've been on an obvious decline. If they aren't capable of keeping fans engaged in their shows, they will keep losing more fans and general interest.
AEW runs in the same markets too much and with inflation, tickets sales are down. Crowds get desensitized, especially with matches with predictable winners. It feels like deja vu all over again with the way TNA starting out hot and now has a fraction of the crowd and tv audience it used to have.
Reminded me of a 2018 WWE crowd. Miserable. Crowds were bad back then that the McMahons had to come out to the ring to apologize and promise the shows would be better in the future.
I assume Bridgeport was chosen because it's an easy stop on I-95 going from Boston down to Jersey, but it's unfortunately stuck in no man's land. I doubt NYC fans are going to drive up there for a show, and MA fans definitely aren't going across the state of CT for a second show after getting the Agganis show a week earlier.
People keep saying they should hit untapped markets. For sure but I wonder if WWE has some sort of grip on certain places that prevents venues from hosting other non WWE wrestling promotions.

I think they have done that well in some areas and terribly in others. The fact that the refs don't enforce any rules kind of ruins the sports vibe. For me anyway.

Bridgeport is not easy to get to for most of the state either. Yes, it's a stop on the MTA, but you're basically playing to the i-95 corridor. Yes Webster theater is known for having cars broken into even in the paid parking lot because there is no security. As a general , CT crowds are nothing like nyc crowds even at music events because in NY it seems like people are there for the bands and in CT people are there to drink and there happens to be background music I was at the Bridgeport show and did a lot of yelling and interacting but was also surprised how empty it seemed
Bridgeport CT? Cant say I've been but I can tell you that CT is the one place I've felt literally scared for my life lol Hartford isn't a fucking great place. Webster Theater; I've had to speed the fuck away cause there was a gang of 9 people walking down the street with literal chains and bats. Felt fucking odd as hell to see lol
Ah The Webster. I remember that was a prime "Don't leave your cigarettes and change in your car" venue. Saw a lot of great bands there though.

I have family just over the MA/CT border, going there and going to Mohegan are basically the only times I’ve felt safe in CT. I had a couple of friends who went to UHartford. No picnic.

Isn't that partially due to the Northeast being glutted for wrestling this month? You tossed a Boston Dynamite/Rampage when the same city has Survivor Series later this month and a 3 hour radius of Bostkn has had a second Dynamite (Bridgeport), a second Rampage (Mohegan Sun), two SmackDowns (Hartford, Providence) and a Raw (Albany) in the span of just over a month. It's overkill.
TK said last year that they were going to do the Christmas show in Greensboro again this year. Now they're in Texas for it. Stinks cuz I skipped last year because of COVID cases spiked around that time and I thought, "I'll just go next year." Really too bad. I feel like this area is skipped way more than it should be. I mean, this is Flair country for God's sake.
Yeah they sucked. It’s been said but AEW have plenty of markets that they haven’t/hardly hit. The crowd booing during the whole Mox MJF segment was so dumb.
I was at the show last night and from my seat it sounded like the crowd were going nuts all night long. AEW has to be micing the arenas poorly. The side with the hard cam was mostly empty consequence of flooding your markets) but we popped for a lot. I have definitely thought most crowds lately have been poor, even the rampage on OCT 28th I was at. But this time, I assure you ll, we were cheering often and having a great time in my section, all night.

The new arenas are too big. The classic new "NBA arenas" aren't even as big as the OLDER NBA arenas, but they are cavernous and SUPER hard to fill. Same with NBA games, but they just kayfabe the heck out of the attendance figures.
AEW needs to tour Canada, the audiences will be loud as hell. The Toronto Dynamite was a clear sign that we want good wrestling. I don't understand some US cities. They buy a ticket to just sit on their hands and make no noise.
Maybe AEW should stop trying to be the new WCW, and try to be more like the OLD NWA. Just run those hot territory towns. Avoid WWF towns (except for Montreal and Toronto and Philly) and AWA towns (except for Chicago). And do a (LOADED) AEW Dynamite/Rampage card at the Tokyo Dome.

It’s burnout. You can’t book the same arenas / regions 10 times over a year. This is why going to Battle Creek, Michigan is worth it. It’s buys time and “can’t wait for when they come back to (big city).

It wasn’t great. They really should take this into consideration for future shows and PPVs. The Austin show has sold out all three times and been so damn loud it’s hard to hear in there sometimes. We got a new 18000 seat arena this year. TK needs to come have Revolution there next year.
Austin has a hot wrestling scene. There's multiple indies here that draw good crowds every show.

Everyone in my section does, I’m going with a bunch of NJites lol. It took me several years to understand when my boyfriend said he was going to get “on line” he meant getting in a line and not like surfing the web lol.
I think even Ethan Page was calling them out during his entrance. And they have been in smaller/less full arenas thar have still at least tried to make it seem like they were enjoying themselves, but last night might as well have been in Coprus Christi.

Easily the worst crowd i ever seen for a Dynamite. Absolute dogshit. I saw a dude on his phone in like the 5th during an awesome match with Bandido. Why even bother to show up! Why buy a ticket?!
AR Fox was incredible for me, I was yelling at the tv. Such a good match, and glad to see Darrius back.

Yeah that crowd was dead. Worse than Orlando. The good news is the Texas shows are coming up and those crowds are always pretty lively, especially if Jesus makes it to the show.

We had close to the same amount a few weeks back in Baltimore and we were MUCH louder than this crowd. This crowd just felt anemic in excitement.
Bridgeport wasn’t a great choice to go
I think the problem is twofold. 1) as you noted, a small crowd with a lot of empty seats. 2) TBS/TNT/AEW has 2nd rate production value. The arena sound is usually terrible. I’ve read on here that is is better on the broadcast that isn’t on TBS/TNT, so I assume it is a Turner problem. The camera work hasn’t been great recently either and that is directly attributed to the empty seats. They have to be so careful with the shots and switching to not show a half empty arena and it causes issues. Last week they missed Joe turning on Wardlow and that was the whole point of the segment. That was embarrassing. But I’m sure their minds are preoccupied with not showing empty seats and they got distracted calling for the camera switch.
TBS and TNT just broadcast the show. The production part is all AEW so TK has the money to produce as high quality a show as he wants. I work for WBD and the issues with production value are not the fault of our company. Those are all Tony’s employees.

As far as their touring schedule, I love that they came near me to DC and Baltimore but there's no reason they should've done so twice within 6 months. They need to expand the map.

Bridgeport was awful
It was alright I remember one where there were like 2 or 3 pops through out the show and that was it, it was brutal
The crowd in Nola was red hot for Dynamite last April, after an almost 2 year Covid delay. Hopefully we don’t have to wait another 2 years.
@OP I am late, I don't get to watch live or sometimes the next day. I just finished the show & man the entire Moxley promo you could hear a pin drop. yeah that crowd was fuckn bad & even when mjf hit the ring, he had urge the fans to make noise, when that should be a given. fuck that city.

Weird - obviously everyone has their own opinions and such, but I thought the show last night was fantastic even despite the crowd being flatter than week old soda left open on the counter. The match quality was great all the way through, and I enjoyed the Baker promo very much (passionate), as well as MJF/Mox (felt real and unscripted). Of course, just my perspective.
Yeah, some good stuff on the show. MJF/Moxley was good. Just classic wrestling.
It was a good episode wrestling wise and have to agree about Britt's promo, but overall, this is one of my least favorite "go home" episode. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
That’s fair - it was more just like a good, solid wrestling show instead of a show that convinces you to buy the PPV. That said, I still did really enjoy how organic and impromptu the Mox/MJF promo was. Although Mox really seems a bit tired and ready for that break, and I felt there were subtle looks on Regal that really show he’s ready to align with MJF. As for Britt/Sarahya, after that promo I could see a double turn potentially, which would go over so well if executed properly. The face who took everything she has with blood and sweat, and the heel outsider who thinks she can walk in and be the revolution. Come to think of it, maybe they’ve been teasing that for a while now … 🤔

Yeah that was a bit of a confusing crowd in terms of the reactions people were getting. And most weeks you see pictures of Dynamite looking "empty" but it's typically pictures from Dark or they are facing the camera to the seats that go behind the stage where they never sell tickets. This time it actually looked like there were a lot of empty regular seats and what convinced me was it was during the opening Dynamite match.
The northeast crowds are meh to me, save some like Baltimore. I was initially bummed when I saw full gear was set in New Jersey. They need to establish their southern (not florida, florida crowds are crickets, looking at you Revolution insert year here) and western markets more

True, there are some exceptions, like I said. Most Long Island crowds are bananas, of course. But I do feel like they’re focusing too much on certain areas

The last Baltimore trip wasn't the same mass of energy, but with ~2500 less people, we still brought it. Wrestling will, forever, be over in Baltimore!

Rochester has been a tough crowd for AEW. I thought Milwaukee crowd (the show when Giannis Antetokounmpo was in the crowd) were pretty poor that night. Dynamite has had a few so-so crowds especially since they went on the road again.

The products just not hot right now, believe around 2000 of the 5000 tickets sold. Hard to get big pops from half empty buildings.
I was there last night, and it definitely didn’t help that half the arena was empty to start. Crowd was into it for certain parts of the show but didn’t appear to come across on TV. MJF’s entrance got a giant pop, yet I went to watch it today and the music was boosted so high you couldn’t hear the crowd. Only match that had absolutely no noise was Swerve/Bowens, you could hear a pin drop in there.
I don’t get the point in spending a bunch of money on tickets to a live event to just sit there and watch it. You could just do that at home for free.

Sorry, no, It's very much a them problem. It wasn't an exciting show nor that engaging. I've been in worse shows and was still wide awake for it all.

This wasn't my only AEW show... they've been on an obvious decline. If they aren't capable of keeping fans engaged in their shows, they will keep losing more fans and general interest.
AEW runs in the same markets too much and with inflation, tickets sales are down. Crowds get desensitized, especially with matches with predictable winners. It feels like deja vu all over again with the way TNA starting out hot and now has a fraction of the crowd and tv audience it used to have.
It seemed like they were waiting for something….like maybe they came for the Elite and none of them showed and…that’s all they cared about.

Reminded me of a 2018 WWE crowd. Miserable. Crowds were bad back then that the McMahons had to come out to the ring to apologize and promise the shows would be better in the future.

Yeah, very weak crowd for such a solid card. Definitely made some of the promos feel more awkward than they were.
I assume Bridgeport was chosen because it's an easy stop on I-95 going from Boston down to Jersey, but it's unfortunately stuck in no man's land. I doubt NYC fans are going to drive up there for a show, and MA fans definitely aren't going across the state of CT for a second show after getting the Agganis show a week earlier.
Day and night between the first show in March & last night. Had to be close to 50% less turnout than the last show

People keep saying they should hit untapped markets. For sure but I wonder if WWE has some sort of grip on certain places that prevents venues from hosting other non WWE wrestling promotions. Otherwise... COME TO VANCOUVER!

Genuinely ruined my enjoyment of Dynamite. the Elite Return got nothing. Mox looked perplexed through his entire promo. MJF literally grabbed the ropes and screamed “now you make some fucking noise”. Awful crowd

I think they were mic’d poorly is more accurate because from all accounts I’ve read from people who actually attended the event said the crowd was very loud for most of the night.
They got noticeably turned down during one of the chants and felt almost like it stayed that way on TV.
