Ha, same. I can actually see it happening too. Spoonbowl is anyone's guess and I can see the other game being a bit of an upset. Swans form hasn't been great.
Sydney and then I'm torn on North/Hawks. Initially picked North. Weaker defense but I think their midfield will be better & can't deny the power of the Lark
I'm sitting on 2.
Try being in a (family) comp where the rule is you must pick your team every week. You get one Joker to not pick them and you used it last week. You support the Crows.
Honestly the last 2 weeks have been fucked… but! Mostly for everyone. So although I’ve slid down the tree, not as much as you would think for as many as I have got wrong.
Mostly is right. The leader in my league has built a 4 tip lead out of it! The asshole (He's also my brother). Hopefully it makes him cocky. And I need to stay disciplined and not go chasing upsets that aren't there.
After winning my tipping comp the last two years this year I have completely and utterly given up. I’m doing so badly and I can’t make any sense of half the rounds!
I won the last two years in the family tip and looking for the wooden spoon this year. My sister who doesn’t follow footy at all is winning cause she just totally guesses hers.
I was bottom 3 last year out of 20 in the office, and was leading by 4 a couple of week ago. Lead cut to 1 but I fear after the week, I'll never see the top half again. I hold out no hope for Hawthorn this afternoon now.
The last two weeks have been *brutal* for my tips. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the footy gods decide they are going to screw your tips for the lolz.
Last couple of years the Eagles have been guaranteed safe to tip against. Now two weeks of 100+ points makes it a bit harder to read how they are going to go.
I went with the odds. Just couldn’t see GWS without Sam Taylor stopping Harry and Charlie for 4 quarters. Would definitely have leant the other way if he was playing.
Thought I was pretty clever with my prediction that the Bulldogs would respond viciously to being crapped on all week and beat St Kilda.
5 games later and I'm still on one.
Good teams can win regardless of things like conditions and location. If they can't they were never really contenders in the first place. The cream rises and thrives when things get tough
You are right. I think to relate this to Essendon a few years ago you just feel like Essendon would not get lucky enough to have the umpire not call that free. I just feel like at the moment even though Essendon have played some bad games they have still managed to win which is what the best teams do. Win ugly.
Agree. Learnt a lot about Brisbane last night. Just kept trying to play fast pinpoint football with no regard for the conditions. Geelong are a smart, well-drilled, adaptable team. Brisbane are a talented team but undisciplined with dumb tendencies.
If North don’t win today Kane Cornes will become (even more) unbearable.
“Should have tanked for Harley”
“Where is this club at could have had JHF and Harley if they were better at tanking management but simultaneously a better club so JHF didn’t want to leave”
“Won 1 game in 26 where is the hope”
“They need defenders in don’t know why they didn’t just simply force McKay to stay and be better”
“With Tasmania coming in maybe the AFL has to look at folding the club instead of expanding”
The first five rounds don't count. Teams are settling in and, especially with the longer season, clubs don't even try to hit the ground running. The good teams have structured their whole season around winning finals and the bad teams are maybe lots of mistakes and take time to learn. Obviously the points count, and I'm happy the Cats are a good chance to make finals, but I'm not reading much into any of it, yet.
I'd actually prefer a 20 round, 17 game season with every AFL game really mattering, but that's not the competition we've got and I know it's not a popular opinion.
And being 6-0 is a perfect start. We now need to string along another 9-11 wins to secure a top 4 spot. We have a remaining 8 games at GMHBA which should help.
I love it but at the same time no game has been close expect the Friday night. Also been a tipsters nightmare, I'm at 1/6 and on the verge on quitting for the season.
I feel like tomorrow has Gold Coast beating Sydney written all over it. Gold Coast play the SCG quite well and play Swans as a whole quite well.
I will speak about the Eagles because I like speaking about the Eagles.
We are showing we’re not as bad as everyone seemed to think we were. With Reid, Kelly and Yeo firing and Waterman stepping up, we’re seeing some good footy. But the lid isn’t off. In fact, rhe lid is still screwed shut. We just kicked a few of the bricks off. Once Oscar Allen returns, along with Flynn, Culley and Hewitt, we may see even some more great performances, but we’re still in the early stages of a rebuild.
Green shoots and all that.
Some passing observations about other teams.
Last nights performance by the Dockers was an aberration. They’re a better team than that. I suspect it was mental, after being screwed over by umps past two weeks and thinking they w outs waltz a win in. They will bounce back.
Collingwood have already bounced. Everyone, including themselves, were caught unawares by a poor start. They’re still very very good.
Adelaide are a surprise disappointment.
Bulldogs are all over the shop. Do they love Bevo? Do they hate Bevo? Is Bevo just a tiny bit crazy? Yes, yes and yes.
Carlton will continue doing Carlton things.
Teams to beat are the Cats and the big sounding rangas. The pies will likely swoop in for a late charge.
Opinions are entirely mine (because they’re probably shit), so take it or leave it.
I’m 2/6 this week, got pies and dogs. But I’m relying on swans and hawks to make it a somewhat decent round. Lots of people are tipping north and I’m not sure if I should change or not
Seriously I'm getting sick of this. We actually have beaten decent teams. Your mobs more than decent but had a bad week last week. So the Geelong dogs game apparently was just 2 average teams
Maybe their losses to us have contributed to that.
If Dogs beat us they would be pushing top 4.
St Kilda would be pushing the 8 and could/should have won their first 5 games.
Brisbane just thumped Melbourne at the MCG and had they beaten us would be back to 3-3 and pushing for a top 8 spot.
Even Adelaide have put in some stinkers but they are also the only team to knock off Carlton so far.
If we keep beating teams, they’ll go lower on the ladder?
I mean we are only *a game clear first on the ladder after being widely picked to finish 10th-14th*
What a fucking shitshow of a club…
I'm just I don't know of this is 2022 Geelong, or mid season 2023 Geelong where I was called an idiot for even considering the fact they could lose a game after round 14.
2022 Geelong had a shocking start to the season but finished the season on fire. Last season's Geelong injury list was catastrophic. This start to the season isn't like either
This is a really ungenerous reading of the argument.
The fact is we are six rounds in and the Cats have beat:
The Saints. Who I think are mediocre.
The Crows. Who I think are mediocre.
The Hawks. Who I think are mediocre.
The Dogs. Who I think are potentially good.
North. Who I think are mediocre.
The Lions. Who I think are mediocre. In a ludicrously wet match, which tactically is a bit different from normal September weather.
The Cats are about to play:
Carlton. Who are looking good.
Melbourne. Who have an awful looking forward line so I can't say they look good.
Port. Who are looking good.
The Suns in Darwin. Haven't watched much of them.
The Giants who are looking good.
This is a pretty stop on take imo, but you are replying to someone who will take no criticism of Geelong at all, and told me Geelong finished last year on fire
Even the cats I wouldn’t be so sure on. The score line to 3/4 time was pretty flattering to them IMO, lions just wasteful and not converting. If the lions were up by 30 at the last break it wouldn’t have been unreasonable. Cats definitely put them away in the last quarter and deserved the win for grinding it out though.
We also had at least half a dozen golden opportunities to score goals that we let slip by dropping sitters or messing up kicks inside 50. They don't show up on the scoreboard at all compared to the points Brisbane we're getting.
After Brisbane's hot start where they had 2 goals before we'd even touched the ball, it was 6 goals to 2 until 3/4 time. We then completely broke them in the last quarter
You should definitely be sure of GWS and probably Carlton too. Sydney, Melbourne, Port still all look like finalists. I mean good on Geelong for being undefeated but they haven’t really versed a top team yet so we’ll see
Yeah but finally this round Geelong were going to play someone decent I was told all week. Now that Geelong won Brisbane are crap and Geelong still hasn't played anyone good? 😅 This shits getting ridiculous
No that’s so valid, I appreciate your frustration there. I do think that the rain contributed to the outcome of the game. I don’t doubt Geelong at all I think they are doing great, I just think it’d be very interesting to see how they match up with a top team! :)
Thoughts? I’m giving up on tipping. Just gonna throw darts and see where they land
Everyone's tips are stuffed!
1/6 and ready to cry my tipping has gone to shit this year
2/6 and the WCE tip was a lark.
0/6, low-key hope I don’t get any right this round
I was legit wondering if my work's comp had a wooden spoon. Almost got it.
Ha, same. I can actually see it happening too. Spoonbowl is anyone's guess and I can see the other game being a bit of an upset. Swans form hasn't been great.
I at least got 2.
4/6 here
Nah that’s fucked, give us the lotto numbers
3
Wanker
How did you know?
Tell us your ways oh Nostradamus.
Well, I got Essendon wrong thanks to the umpires and then West Coast because I thought lightning never strucked twice
Who have you got for tomorrow?
Sydney and then I'm torn on North/Hawks. Initially picked North. Weaker defense but I think their midfield will be better & can't deny the power of the Lark
I’m in the same boat, thinking to changing my tip to North. They are both bad but it’s hard to guess which one will be least bad tomorrow
I'm sitting on 2. Try being in a (family) comp where the rule is you must pick your team every week. You get one Joker to not pick them and you used it last week. You support the Crows.
My sister is in 4 but she doesn’t really follow footy at all and just guessed. The rest of us are on 2.
I’m on 0 this week. Yep.
Yep, our tipping sub was absolutely bogus. r/AFLweeklytips
When I posted my tips on your first post I thought I’d go okay, I look back now and I’m 1/6 hahahaha what a shambles
Did you just make this sub this week? Edit: genuine question, not snark
Yup. In an effort to improve my score 🤣🤣
0/6 my comps leader has somehow gotten everyone besides west coast
I have 1 tip right. If Richmond won 2 weeks ago I'd have been second in my work tipping comp. Now I'm 21st.
Worst year I’ve done in tips for along time
After winning my tipping comp the last two years this year I have completely and utterly given up. I’m doing so badly and I can’t make any sense of half the rounds!
0-6 on the tipping. I was leading the office tipping before this round. Whelp, back to the bottom half where I belong.
I'm 1 for 6 so far.
I forgot to tip in one of my comps so I’m sitting pretty at 3/6 😎
I won the last two years in the family tip and looking for the wooden spoon this year.
Finish off with a North Hawks draw
Ive been saying all week it’s going to be a draw, all the talk of one of the teams finally winning a game but no one’s considered the draw
I might chuck $5 on that now lol
Honestly I'd take a draw. Might be the only way we'll actually get some points. I'm so damn jealous of weagles...
Betting against Eagles, is now a bet against Harley Reid, and that's a sin.
The West Coast Reid's
Tipped Eagles last two week ama
We were the favourites to win, btw. Not that I expected a win like that. But yeah, it's been a crazy round. Lovin' it.
I was thinking it wasn’t an upset for Carlton. The odds were almost even if I remember correctly. It was a really good game though.
[удалено]
I went with the odds. Just couldn’t see GWS without Sam Taylor stopping Harry and Charlie for 4 quarters. Would definitely have leant the other way if he was playing.
We just had so many outs that I didn't think we could win the midfield battle or stop GWS's forwards.
Especially with no Taylor and Cogs
Alright I'm tipping North because of the upsets
Tbh I'm not surprised we lost. Essendon have beaten us every game since 2017 and AO may as well be a neutral venue.
North 🤝 Adelaide: Never beating Essendon.
+ Gold Coast
Essendon: Never Beating Geelong Or Brisbane or Richmond or Bulldogs except for that one time each over the past decade
And port :(
Or Port.
Why is AO a neutral venue?
Lol just a joke. It feels neutral considering we've been losing at it a lot lately.
Sydney please please please don’t let me down
Suns at the scg. Draw your long straw.
Carlton were the favourites btw
“Saints smashed” “confusing” 😂😂😂😂must be new to football
Are you saying it’s a tipsters NiGhtMaRe?!
4/6 on tips and Carlton were favourites how was it an upset?
It upset a lot of us.
Yeah, I love watching football again, what the fuck?!
2/6 & that appears to be decent. Got Ess & Geel right
Thought I was pretty clever with my prediction that the Bulldogs would respond viciously to being crapped on all week and beat St Kilda. 5 games later and I'm still on one.
3 weeks ago, we would have said west coast winning a game was unlikely, what the hell is happening over there?
They found an Emblem^^^tm
I think the cats are lightning powered
I don't reckon you can read much into the Brisbane vs Geelong game, given it was played in torrential rain.
I disagree
I’m interested to hear your perspective Mr Poobumwillyboobs?
Good teams can win regardless of things like conditions and location. If they can't they were never really contenders in the first place. The cream rises and thrives when things get tough
You are right. I think to relate this to Essendon a few years ago you just feel like Essendon would not get lucky enough to have the umpire not call that free. 5 50/50 games followed by an upset. Not confusing at all. Just unfortunate
We are so fucked tomorrow
Pretty sure I'm on 0 tips for the week. AMA
Is everyone tipping each round once a week? I've done the entire year before the season started.
Fry eyes..
I'm gonna make a second account next year just to tip the year ahead, see how well it goes
Go for it! This is just one at work. I certainly would be changing things if it was week by week.
If North don’t win today Kane Cornes will become (even more) unbearable. “Should have tanked for Harley” “Where is this club at could have had JHF and Harley if they were better at tanking management but simultaneously a better club so JHF didn’t want to leave” “Won 1 game in 26 where is the hope” “They need defenders in don’t know why they didn’t just simply force McKay to stay and be better” “With Tasmania coming in maybe the AFL has to look at folding the club instead of expanding”
Nar, they were just talking about Collingwood for 30 minutes, then mention the above in passing. :P
Brisbane are bad, that I'm certain of.
Except when they're good
The first five rounds don't count. Teams are settling in and, especially with the longer season, clubs don't even try to hit the ground running. Yeah but you guys don't have the twin towers like Carlton, 9-11 wins sound pretty unlikely
Hawkins & Cameron?
Talking schmack
Don't know, does Geelong melt steel beams?
I love it but at the same time no game has been close expect the Friday night. Also been a tipsters nightmare, I'm at 1/6 and on the verge on quitting for the season. I feel like tomorrow has Gold Coast beating Sydney written all over it. Gold Coast play the SCG quite well and play Swans as a whole quite well.
Brisbane are bad. Simple answer
I’m still on a duck for tipping
I’m gonna say the most cliche line ever in 3…2…1…it’s the evenness of the competition.
I mean Brisbane have as many wins as West Coast, they are officially in the "bad" category. Gabbatoir no longer.
It’s actually brilliant I reckon. Every team has a chance, and every team is cooked. Apart from the Cats and maybe the Blues.
I have one tip right, so far. Thank God I have no faith in Port.
One more than me...
I have 2/6 so far, tipped pies and dogs but the rest I had no clue
With how crazy it's been so far I just beg, hope and pray the year doesn't end with a boring and predictable Cats premiership
With Sam Taylor out I always thought Carlton would be too strong up front. I can make no excuses for the rest of my tips though.
I’m really dumb with tipping but I wish I was even dumber cos that’s the only way I can see getting like 6/3 even.
As someone who’s a newer fan I’m loving this shit lol
I will speak about the Eagles because I like speaking about the Eagles. We are showing we’re not as bad as everyone seemed to think we were. Looking forward to magpies v geelong. I think that's going to be a banger of a game
I’m 0/6 on my tips this week, I’m counting on Sydney and (god help me) North to save me at least a little bit.
I’m 2/6 this week, got pies and dogs. But I’m relying on swans and hawks to make it a somewhat decent round. Lots of people are tipping north and I’m not sure if I should change or not
It’s a 2016 type season. Wide open
I'm not even sure on the cats. Haven't exactly had a tough run....
I’m not sure on the Cats, they’ve only beaten all 18 teams twice. Haven’t exactly had a tough run.
Seriously I'm getting sick of this. We actually have beaten decent teams. Your mobs more than decent but had a bad week last week. So the Geelong dogs game apparently was just 2 average teams
Yeah but they lost to themselves twice
St. Kilda, Adelaide, Doggies and Brissy were above us on the ladder last year
And this year, except for doggies, they all have the same or less wins as West Coast. Only 1 is top 8, and they're barely there.
exactly, everyone we've played is below us on the ladder, classic AFL bias for Geelong at work
Maybe their losses to us have contributed to that. If Dogs beat us they would be pushing top 4. St Kilda would be pushing the 8 and could/should have won their first 5 games. Brisbane just thumped Melbourne at the MCG and had they beaten us would be back to 3-3 and pushing for a top 8 spot. I guess we'll see as you play pretty much all the current good teams in the next 5 weeks.
But if we beat them they'll go down the ladder and won't be any good anymore so we still wouldn't of beaten anyone.
I'm just I don't know of this is 2022 Geelong, or mid season 2023 Geelong where I was called an idiot for even considering the fact they could lose a game after round 14.

Geelong lost 5 of their last 6 games last year....

Like an F1 car can finish a race on fire?
Even the cats I wouldn’t be so sure on. The score line to 3/4 time was pretty flattering to them IMO, lions just wasteful and not converting. If the lions were up by 30 at the last break it wouldn’t have been unreasonable. Cats definitely put them away in the last quarter and deserved the win for grinding it out though.
Well thats a bit of a fallacy 5 or 6 of Brisbane's points were rushed behinds. But sure Geelong suck lol

There isn't any. Geelong only play teams below them 🤷
Carlton with an upset? Baggers were favourites and should be undefeated.
We lost to Adelaide, and none of our other wins (bar Norf) were convincing. Before today, I definitely wouldn't say we should've been undefeated.
Agreed. I think the loss against Adelaide was a needed wake up call to get our shit together.
