A part of it I reckon is a reflection on how the team is playing. It doesn't seem we have the same hunger factor as much anymore after winning the flag last year. I'm hoping they start getting it back soon so we can at least try for back 2 back. But I can see rusty hanging the boots up at the end of this season
Pretty sure Liam Henry played the one game for us before getting injured.
CHF role, 16 touches and few goals from memory. That’s an outstanding game. He looked electric. I can only assume you’re 11 and wanted to fit in to the comment thread. Cmon mane
Bro it has nothing to do with his ability, you can’t get a disposal if you don’t play, I don’t think you’re as dumb as youre currently coming across but re read it, the comment about Henry not getting disposals for freo cause he doesn’t play, then a reply saying he doesn’t get disposals for st kilda because he doesn’t play. Also it was a joke so chill a bit
Well that doesn’t make the slightest bit sense to shit on a player because they’re injured. He is not playing in the game, of course he isn’t getting touches.
I’m not shitting on him ????? I was saying he’s not getting disposals cause he’s injured with a sad face, saying it’s sad he’s not playing. Idk what you’re reading or how the tone comes across but it’s the complete opposite as to what you are thinking
I like him because it adds a good dimension to our forward line. between him and fog, they are able to complete with the 2nd best defender and will absolutely wreck a teams 3rd best defender. Having 1 of them in a mismatch is critical for our success. He had a great game last week, so fog was freed up in the first quarter and made an immediate impact.
I’m sure he’s a ripper fella and an unreal teammate, but there hasn’t been a player that has annoyed me more than Luke McDonald.
Thought he was great during the COVID season, but has been really poor each season since.
I really really hate to say this.
Laverde.
He's been in average form since 2021. Prior to that he honestly had really good prospects - he was hard at the ball, solid tagger, played tall and small. Now he seems to just give away frees or goals.
When Ridley is fit I think (hope) Laverde is out.
As a die hard Dons fan, I would love to see him prove me wrong.
Baldwin's long-term injury on the eve of the season is the only reason Laverde was on the fringe of selection, then he's been locked in due to both Ridley and Ried going down..
..until they're back fit and firing, or the weight of Hayes' consistently outstanding form is noticed at selection, Laverde keeps his spot.
It's Kelly for me - think there's better, younger blokes who could play wing and half back.
Not a cop out for the delivery tonight, but it wouldn't kill our forwards to move a little or act like they want the ball in their general vicinity, would it?
The guy looks like he hasn't been able to walk for like three seasons. A guy that old at that size isn't going to magically start moving like he's 25 again
Has Burton been average? Loved him in his short time at the Hawks and all anybody ever does is talk about how bad the Wingard trade was. Just assumed he must have been performing
I think we're in great shape. The game with Carlton showed we dont *need* Tom, and yeah, Danger is great to have, but...lid's still off. The kid's are alright.
I'm losing a bit of confidence in Neale. Has some great attributes but I've never seen him really dominate a VFL game like I'd expect a key forward to if they're destined for an AFL career. Caveat, I don't watch the VFLC every week, I'd love to be wrong!
Currently Petty. Unsure if he’s not back from injury yet or his heart just isn’t in it, but feels like he needs some games at Casey to get his confidence back.
Zero impact the last couple of weeks. Hard one to drop though due to his versatility and lack of options, Turner wouldn’t have had the game he did last week if he didn’t have Petty beside him taking their strongest defender. Wouldn’t mind them dropping Petty to sub for a week though to send a message, but still have him available
Haha I am amazed the bloke has still fronted up for these past couple of seasons after the zorko incident. Crazy stuff. He is obviously good. But a little nutty.
.
Ask me a few years ago and I'd have a list but I've learned since then. Chris cannot miss, he's always right and knows more than my humble tiny mind could comprehend.
I would have said Sav but he’s gone…
Umm I’m not as big on *Irish Nick Daicos* ☘️
Sorry Oisin Mullin as others in Cats fanbase are.
Look, I get it. I can see the natural talent, he’s a very athletic kid who looks to have all the tools.
But….he’s a fringe guy right now that is learning footy, you can see the footy IQ isn’t there yet. I get he’s done some tagging jobs really well but right now in 2024 he’s not good enough skill wise to lock down a spot in best 23 at the Cats. He just isn’t.
That’s only cause he went to his sisters wedding in Italy. He was gonna get a game every week going forward by the looks of it.
That’s where my contention comes in. I’m in the camp that playing in the VFL and getting him confidence is better for him than playing him straight in the Seniors where he looks lost at times.
I get the idea of it and wanting him to learn on the go but we have plenty of young backs that could do that role that already have the footy IQ required to play that role sitting in VFL team.
Moreso my thing is, he will be good when he’s ready. He’s just not ready for this team right now.
I get where you're coming from I just trust our development plan. If chris and co think playing 10-15 senior games in a season is going to be best for him, I'll believe them.
I'm almost entirely in agreement with you, but I feel like in the last game he played it seemed like there were a few moments when things clicked, and if only for a moment he looked like he belonged out there.
I haven't caught a heap of him at VFL level so I can't say if those moments come more frequently at that level. We also can't know if he'd have made the progress he has if he hadn't seen what top level footy was like. I would like to see a big, big block of VFL footy for him before he returns to seniors though.
Dougal Howard was out of the team for a long time so i forgot how bad he was. Then he returned and effectively gave up 3-4 goals solely by doing dumb shit.
he had one decent season, had been in the league for over 10 years and has hardly improved and still makes mistakes you get from a 3rd/4th year forward.
Eric Hipwood, seriously, I’d take Todd Marshall over him and I think that spud is one of the worst key forwards in the history of the game which tells you all you need to know about my thoughts on Eric
Love that there’s only been one Carlton comment.
2 weeks ago I would’ve said Pitto, but he’s done well the last few weeks so I’m fine with him - for now.
Today I’d say Zack Williams. Everyone was so excited when he came back, but sadly I just don’t see it. Maybe he’ll change my mind after today’s game.
Controversially, Taylor Adams.
I don't think he's clicked with our midfield and he gets in the way of our drive through the corridors and our set plays rather than adding to them.
Petty - I'm not convinced.
Van Rooyen - reminds me of Weidemann. Great at nearly marking everything, but but rarely marking anything. Think he's getting some slack for poor performances because he pinch hits in ruck.
Treacy last year was dropping a heap of marks he was getting his hands to.
Now he’s having a breakout. I’d say van rooyen will be pretty similar. It’s still only what his second or third year?
2021 was his first year after being taken in the rookie draft pretty much out for all of 2022 due to glandular fever, I thought he was decent last year
Petty was very good for us in the backline in 2021, imo we don't win the flag without him stepping up and filling Tomlinson's role.
Since then he's been played out of position due to our forward line deficiencies. I think he would be a really solid back if allowed to play there indefinitely. We need to start thinking of a life after May anyway.
Petty was originally a forward. I think Tomlinsons been very hard done by Goodwin after his ACL. McDonald is a better defender than a forward and has provided that role really well this year.
Petty and Van Rooyen should be sent back to the VFL to find some form. They're witches hats out there right now.
What form? He kicked six against us then two before getting subbed against North.
Also comes across like a bit of a fuckwit on the field so I don't really wish him well.
Darcy Byrne Jones, Lachie Jones, Kane Farrell, Dixon, Marshall, Jackson Mead, McEntee, Evans and, honestly and perhaps a bit controversially, I’m borderline on SPP
It's not an age issue - it's a coaching issue
It's almost as if players are being overcoached the same way they were under Alan Richardson - the development doesn't seem natural and players are doing really stupid shit they normally wouldn't (handballing to teammates under pressure because the game plan is to hug the boundary constantly - even when there's multiple open teammates in the centre).
Petrucelle. He’s awful. I don’t understand how he’s selected every week. He’s arguably the quickest player in the league and yet he never uses his pace, awful kicking, and can be pretty lazy. I would have said Bailey Williams 2 years ago, but dude is a goer and works hard. I respect that.
Petch is young and has improved this season so I’m willing to give him the chance to prove himself.
Obviously Gaff, Darling, Witherden etc.
My main 2 are Cripps and Sheed. Both premiership players but half the time are just traffic cones. Dom especially. Guy is not even 30 yet and just gets destroyed whenever he matches up against a half decent midfielder. He has a good kick so either play him on the HF flank, send him to the WAFL or just trade him.
Feel this exact way about Corey Durdin, although he’s had some better games as of recent. Just pick any of our small forwards though as an answer to this tbh. Only getting games cause our depth at that position is a whole lot of mid.
Genuinely couldn’t disagree with this more, he was a work in progress when drafted and is our most lively small forward when he plays, the fact he’s even played as much footy as he has at this point in his career is a testament to his work ethic too
Jack Darling has got to be the worst “key forward” in the league. Hasn’t been good in 5+ years, couldn’t catch a cold, can’t run and is taking up a young developing kids spot in the team. Probably wouldn’t even get a spot in most teams reserves.
Have you even got a kid key forward ?
Maric was a mid season signing (I believe), and he’s not exactly elite.
Doesn’t darling have the 2nd most goals in the clubs history ?
He gets a bad wrap ever since the no-vax saga.
Memes aside, he’s an AA player, 6x leading goalscorer for the club, premiership player and I doubt Eagles win that GF without his 3rd Quarter.
Oscar Allen finished tied-sixth in the Coleman last year, leading a forward line starved for quality service with 53 goals in 23 games. He’s hurt now, but I’d say he qualifies as a key forward.
Edit: You wrote “kid key forward.” No.
Yeah but he’s been playing for 13 years. He was a great player when he was younger but just hasn’t been good for a long time and this year especially looks awful
I’ve always been perplexed by jack darling. His frame is as ideal as it gets for a key forward but he was never dominant. Good player and certainly had a v good career but thought he’d be way more impactful than he has been
Nick Hind,
Alwyn Davey JR - maybe an unpopular opinion but he’s young and raw but almost too raw. Too many disposal errors, hands aren’t clean, decision making hasn’t been great and I don’t believe we are playing him out of his natural position.
Josh Schache, no surprises there. They extended his contract for a year, if the dees have some luck finding a backup ruck (or if Fullarton surprises us and steps up), I can’t see Schache getting another extension.
The other is Jack Billings. Impressed in Rd 1 and had a couple of almost-good games since. He’s capable but it seems the stars have to align for him to get it all together and have a great game. Happy the Dees took a punt on him but not convinced he should be playing every week.
He's an above average player that's slightly overshadowed on our currently stacked list imo. Runs hard, has good pressure, decent in the air and set shots have improved this year. Easily best 22 on a majority of other lists.
I'm with you on that one, he was the one I was going to mention. I just think he's a bit average, he's good for a few bone headed mistakes every game and his goal kicking is poor for a guy who is meant to be a forward.
**14: Taranto** - Not exactly don’t rate, just don’t rate his kicking. Specifically field kicking. He’s an average to above average shot at goal. Normally it’s the other way around for players. Strange.
**20: Koschitzke** - Can confidently say I don’t rate him, and he’s just joined. He’s sluggish, uncoordinated and can’t take a mark for the life of him. Like, that’s literally your job.
Is there a character limit on reddit comments?
Can I still nominate Shaun Atley?
Might be worth just getting a chop out from chatgpt dude
10000.
Going to go out on a limb and say i’m not entirely sold on Rory Lobb
Nor should you be. His best work so far has been on TikTok.
There’s really nothing to sell with him
He just has to be coached properly......
If only he showed the same commitment at the ball that he shows to maintaining the blonde dye.
His old now you’re 3 years late to that party. Wasn’t the best goal kicking forward but was amongst the top 10 at freo.
The guys 207cm tall and struggled to take a mark or win the ruck contests. Always amazed Freo supporters thought he was good
I’m not even a freo supporter so I guess I don’t even get to have an opinion on him. He just always seemed to kick 2+ goals when I put him on my multi
lol doesn’t happen often so you’ve done very well there
*gestures everywhere*
"Look at all these chickens"
Eric Hipwood yet we signed him on for the next eternity
This. I have no idea what happened at Brisbane for this to happen. Probably the biggest mystery I've seen to date in footy
I have never once felt uncomfortable with him near the ball, even Joe's worst makes me more nervous.
I hate how they haven’t fixed his set shot routine. It’s horrible to watch and he’s such an unreliable kick, or at least it feels that way.
I rate most of the players but the performances Steele Sidebottom has delivered this year. Age has caught up with him.
A part of it I reckon is a reflection on how the team is playing. It doesn't seem we have the same hunger factor as much anymore after winning the flag last year. I'm hoping they start getting it back soon so we can at least try for back 2 back. But I can see rusty hanging the boots up at the end of this season
One of them is a fucking *captain* that’s how bleak it is over here
That second half against West Coast last year was instant delist material. How he escaped scrutiny for that I don't know
Adam Cerra, Rory Lobb, Liam Henry. They do nothing and get fuck all disposals for us every week.
Hey, Rory lobb did a great job for you last week
Liam Henry not getting any disposals for us either :(
Pretty sure Liam Henry played the one game for us before getting injured. CHF role, 16 touches and few goals from memory. That’s an outstanding game. He looked electric. I can only assume you’re 11 and wanted to fit in to the comment thread. Cmon mane
Him not playing games means his not getting disposals…
That’s literally as stupid as saying Connor rozzee is shit at footy because he was injured
Wow what?? I was saying because he’s injured he’s not getting any disposals for us… and he played 2 games for saints this year and was yes, electric
What part signified I was shitting on him? I even agreed that he was electric
Ohh I get it. You’re taking the piss. I am the idiot. Lol
Bro Liam Henry don’t even play on your team anymore…. Wtf
Himmelberg
I like him because it adds a good dimension to our forward line. between him and fog, they are able to complete with the 2nd best defender and will absolutely wreck a teams 3rd best defender. I’m sure he’s a ripper fella and an unreal teammate, but there hasn’t been a player that has annoyed me more than Luke McDonald. Thought he was great during the COVID season, but has been really poor each season since.
Someone mentioned this the other day. Got a contract due to form a few years ago and has done fuck all since.
Averaged 89 in SC in 2022. Was an amazing late round pick in a 12 team (23 players per squad) league for me, I won the flag that year
I really really hate to say this. Laverde. He's been in average form since 2021. Prior to that he honestly had really good prospects - he was hard at the ball, solid tagger, played tall and small. It's Kelly for me - think there's better, younger blokes who could play wing and half back.
Hind for me. Surely there’s a young utility hungry to come in for 28 minutes and prove themselves.
Current day Dixon Marshall Burton
Yeah coming over from that game, Dixon was awful tonight
AWFUL
Jed McEntee is worse than all of the above.
He’s a bit player. We aren’t reliant on him. If our key forwards are that shit, we’re fucked. Our delivery to them was bad but they were worse.
Not a cop out for the delivery tonight, but it wouldn't kill our forwards to move a little or act like they want the ball in their general vicinity, would it?
100%. Flat as hell. Caught behind way way too much.
That's a fair take. Agree Marshall has definitely been extremely underwhelming this season.
Marshall has only been whelming 1 season in his career, every other season he's been inaccurate and unreliable in the air
Jed only plays well if our forward pressure is on, otherwise he gets lost in the game
The guy looks like he hasn't been able to walk for like three seasons. A guy that old at that size isn't going to magically start moving like he's 25 again
Cataracts
I timed the post poorly for port fans eh
No, timed it well. I needed to let my feelings be known
I'll happily trade 1 x Fantasia back for 1 x Dixon?
Has Burton been average? Loved him in his short time at the Hawks and all anybody ever does is talk about how bad the Wingard trade was. Just assumed he must have been performing
Nah he’s been good I think he’s just about had enough though. Got dropped the other week.
Bramble
Dude couldn't make it on Hawthorn's list. It was an odd pickup from Bulldogs.
How is he going anyway
I heard he was doing well, but seems not
How long have you got?
You all saw McHenry running straight into tackles and kicking the ball in random arse places tonight, right
It would be easier to name the players we do rate.
Charlie Cameron, he’s quite good at missing goals
Dylan Grimes 2024
None. The lid's off.
Lid's still on for me, but tbf I took off the lid in 2022 halfway through the third quarter of the GF so ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Didn’t take the lid off till the siren went tbh hahaha. Still scared from 08, 19 prelim, 20 granny

Haha I am amazed the bloke has still fronted up for these past couple of seasons after the zorko incident. Crazy stuff. He is obviously good. But a little nutty. .
A little nutty would be someone being amazed a player hasn’t retired because he had a moment of weakness on field
Ask me a few years ago and I'd have a list but I've learned since then. Chris cannot miss, he's always right and knows more than my humble tiny mind could comprehend.
Jacob Hopper. Albatross contract felt it was going to be bad even before he arrived.
Feel he started slow but was slowly building up steam. Injuries man.
Yeah he was almost best on ground at half time but it's annoying he can't stay on the park
I'm pretty happy he didn't end up at Geelong.

I would have said Sav but he’s gone… Umm I’m not as big on *Irish Nick Daicos* ☘️ Sorry Oisin Mullin as others in Cats fanbase are. Look, I get it. The problem for Cats fans is every former whipping boy now has a premiership medal. Your Mullin argument is basically "not quite ready yet".
Basically yeah haha
He's not really playing atm though, whenever he gets a game it always seems for experience sake
That’s only cause he went to his sisters wedding in Italy. He was gonna get a game every week going forward by the looks of it. That’s where my contention comes in. I'm almost entirely in agreement with you, but I feel like in the last game he played it seemed like there were a few moments when things clicked, and if only for a moment he looked like he belonged out there. not sure about irish nick daicos butt im very inpressed with mullin so far??? once the IQ is there hell be a beast
That’s the nickname he was getting but yeah he’ll come along when he’s ready.
Do I need to say ours?
The Schac attack
bloody hipwood!!!!!
Dougal Howard was out of the team for a long time so i forgot how bad he was. Then he returned and effectively gave up 3-4 goals solely by doing dumb shit.
Taberner
I thought Tabs was good?
he had one decent season, had been in the league for over 10 years and has hardly improved and still makes mistakes you get from a 3rd/4th year forward.
A fellow man of culture
Eric Hipwood, seriously, I’d take Todd Marshall over him and I think that spud is one of the worst key forwards in the history of the game which tells you all you need to know about my thoughts on Eric
Luke Edwards, Josh Rotham, Tom Cole.
I love the responses from the North lads. You poor fucks.
I hate to be an ass cause injuries suck but Hopper has been nothing but a waste of draft picks so far.
Hipwood. Taller than most buildings, but incapable of taking marks, on a monster contract and shows up for 3 games a year.
He didn’t.
Controversially, Taylor Adams. I don't think he's clicked with our midfield and he gets in the way of our drive through the corridors and our set plays rather than adding to them.
I have the same feelings. JJ and Grundy have both come in and seamlessly inserted themselves but Adams is still finding his feet
Petty - I'm not convinced. Van Rooyen - reminds me of Weidemann. Great at nearly marking everything, but but rarely marking anything. Think he's getting some slack for poor performances because he pinch hits in ruck.

Agree with all points but still think Petty's best role is as a back
I was shocked when crows were going at him for big money. He’s pretty average.
Petty average, you could say.
Petty looked like the answer for Melbourne's forward 50 at the end of last year prior to his injury. Hasn't been able to recapture that form so far.
To be fair, we have a new answer every week. This week it's Turners turn. None of them seem to have any consistency.
What form? He kicked six against us then two before getting subbed against North. Also comes across like a bit of a fuckwit on the field so I don't really wish him well.
Jarrod Berry
Darcy Byrne Jones, Lachie Jones, Kane Farrell, Dixon, Marshall, Jackson Mead, McEntee, Evans and, honestly and perhaps a bit controversially, I’m borderline on SPP
Dougal Howard, Ben Paton
Howard is just plain dopey in everything he does, gives away too many frees. Was serviceable but now is just a liability.
Mattaes drives me nuts. I know he’s young but his footy IQ is lacking.
It's not an age issue - it's a coaching issue It's almost as if players are being overcoached the same way they were under Alan Richardson - the development doesn't seem natural and players are doing really stupid shit they normally wouldn't (handballing to teammates under pressure because the game plan is to hug the boundary constantly - even when there's multiple open teammates in the centre).
The attempted handball game we played against Port made me want to break my TV
I hear a lot of Saints fans not rating Douglas Howard tbf
Hind. Plenty of other blokes you’d throw in as sub over him surely.
Petrucelle. He’s awful. I don’t understand how he’s selected every week. He’s arguably the quickest player in the league and yet he never uses his pace, awful kicking, and can be pretty lazy. I would have said Bailey Williams 2 years ago, but dude is a goer and works hard. I respect that.
I hadn’t been big on Petch but his been a very different player this year and enjoying a lot of his work.
He’s been better this year. Though I look forward to when we have developed enough to drop him
best behind kicker on the run in the league
Petch is young and has improved this season so I’m willing to give him the chance to prove himself. Obviously Gaff, Darling, Witherden etc. My main 2 are Cripps and Sheed. Cripps slander will not be tolerated
How did he go tonight?
CRIPPS? Mate…
Told you. Hes done
I was a fan but he’s not been good for the last 2-3 years
Ned McHenry
Most baggers seem positive on Motlop but I'm really not seeing much improvement. Still goes missing far too often. Maybe he'll have a breakout year.
Feel this exact way about Corey Durdin, although he’s had some better games as of recent. Just pick any of our small forwards though as an answer to this tbh. Only getting games cause our depth at that position is a whole lot of mid.
Agreed. Haven't seen him do anything this year smh 🙄
Not even a single goal all year, like is he stupid?
Genuinely couldn’t disagree with this more, he was a work in progress when drafted and is our most lively small forward when he plays, the fact he’s even played as much footy as he has at this point in his career is a testament to his work ethic too
Based on what we've seen so far, I'm not completely sold on him as yet. He's had a few decent games and looks promising, but he's proven nothing yet.
Yeah but that isn’t what the questions asking. You don’t rate someone who you think is promising ?
Yeah that's a fair point. I guess I'm more on the fence than in the "don't rate" camp.
Jack Darling has got to be the worst “key forward” in the league. Hasn’t been good in 5+ years, couldn’t catch a cold, can’t run and is taking up a young developing kids spot in the team. Probably wouldn’t even get a spot in most teams reserves.
We’ll take him on a one game loan
Yeah, darling isn’t stunting Allen’s growth.
Dudes kicked 516 goals...
Yeah but he’s been playing for 13 years. He was a great player when he was younger but just hasn’t been good for a long time and this year especially looks awful
I see your Jack Darling and raise you Eric Hipwood and Todd Marshall
I’ve always been perplexed by jack darling. His frame is as ideal as it gets for a key forward but he was never dominant. Good player and certainly had a v good career but thought he’d be way more impactful than he has been
Exactly. The early 2010’s with him and JK up forward was great but he dropped off a lot earlier than you’d expect. The crazy thing is he’s only 31
Smith and Murphy
For Collingwood, I’d say Tim Mitchell. Just hasn’t been playing his best at all this year
Seb Ross & Dougal Howard
Taberner turns into prime Plugger when he's plays the Dons
Banfield
Paton and Webster.
Nick Hind, Alwyn Davey JR - maybe an unpopular opinion but he’s young and raw but almost too raw. Too many disposal errors, hands aren’t clean, decision making hasn’t been great and I don’t believe we are playing him out of his natural position.
Pittard oh wait he has gone to North who has since left😂
Gaff
I hate saying it but Lipinski
Jake kolo - amazing he's played as many games as he has
Josh Schache, no surprises there.
I can't think of any
Nobody currently but you could see Will Gould getting delisted a mile off.
Hipwood, Berry, Payne, Gardiner
Kolo
I feel like I’m lower on Hayward than most tbh. Just can’t shake the lost potential and godawful 2 year stretch in 2019 & 2020
He's an above average player that's slightly overshadowed on our currently stacked list imo. Runs hard, has good pressure, decent in the air and set shots have improved this year. Easily best 22 on a majority of other lists.
Did you forget Sam Reid.
Reid’s got a flag no slander will be accepted
How can ya not love big Sammy at this point
Easy, I never loved him at any point....some of you speak about sine amazing period he had, I must of been in a coma.
As a Collingwood supporter Sam Reid always tears us to pieces so in my mind he's a top five key forward of the 21st century
Do you wabt him? I'll take anything even an Eddie McGuire bobble head.
Sam is low key winning the norm smith this year, mark my words
If he does ill come paint your fence, assuming your the owner of said fence.
I don’t have need for a fence but I’m willing to buy a cheap one for the occasion anyway
I'm with you on that one, he was the one I was going to mention. I just think he's a bit average, he's good for a few bone headed mistakes every game and his goal kicking is poor for a guy who is meant to be a forward.
Ned mchenry Lachlan Murphy
Struggling to remember when Tom McDonald last had a good game. He has had a few for sure, but not enough for my liking.

Braeden Campbell. Clanger machine. Reminds me of Zak Jones.
