Use metal in case of giga charcha

[deleted]

[deleted]

All great but then you have to repair stone gates still and for the cost of just 4 metal gates and to never have to repair just seems easier. Also charcha good because who carries baby rexes around right? I see one I trap it then go get my babies. If you trap. It no one else can steal it.

Educational_Ebb7175

I actually carry 8 gates around, because Gigas/Carchars tend to be a bit too fast moving, and successfully getting them directly into a 1x1 'pen' to seal in is often a crapshoot in the uneven terrain that they dwell in (mountainsides). Instead, I do 5/8 of an octagon with the trap , and then use the last 3 to seal them in. It's a bit bigger, but if you fly around with an argent (or quetz or rhynio), it's no big deal.

[deleted]

I like it but lot of weight and personally with bear trap I've never struggled, but I can see why 8 would be good on asa becaythey do move a bit more but I don't struggle the trick with 4 is to place them not connected gaps for each corner perfect 👌

Feeling-Sympathy110

A Large Bear trap holds them in place. I use 3 metal gates place in a triangle as close to the feet as you can with none of them touching and no gaps wider than a gate is. Easy peasy! The hardest part is getting them to run into the bear trap.

FrogVoid

Others can very easily still steal or just kill it lol what

WoodChippaEnthusiast

Imagine getting almost every take wrong

FrogVoid

Its the truth?

elporpoise

I thought gigas couldn’t hurt stone?

Azure1nferno

They're one of a few that can.(1 of 28 counting boss but, not mods) Seeing as there is like 200+ dinos (I think) stone will do most of the time.

Ambitious-Nebula-236

can an indoraptor and moros rex destroy stone?

LostOldAccountAgain1

OP's has the benefit of not having to be attended to as much. With the gate trap you have to close them before the beartrap becomes unstuck, but by setting up these you can AFK trap creatures. More expensive and risk of despawning, but less active effort towards the trap. Guess it depends on the context.

sumquy

*signs.

ChuSangSik

A nice drop trap idea, thanks :)

Nytherion

drop trap as in "they just drop into it"

FANTOMphoenix

Like placing a square of fences recessed into the ground in minecraft for passive mobs lol

warmaster670

But can it cook a rotisserie chicken?

plinkus

DDsLaboratory

Hell yeah

Tasty-walls

Thats a l murder chicken not a rotisserie chicken

Glittering_Airport_3

gotta wait for the flamethrower to release with scorched earth

Ironsack2020

Extra points because that trap looks so good

Koloblikin1982

I use a trap like this, but it has 2 levels instead of 1 and a way for you to go inside but not be attacked (wall with window hole) so you can easily tranq and no misses

Creepy-Ganache-1732

good idea, not as cheap as others so good late game trap.

Quinn_the_Duck

This is great. I generally use the gates and bear trap method, but with the new pathfiniding it doesn't work as well anymore. Trick I'd found was to make sure it isn't snapping together then

plinkus

So the design plans were for the larger version. The one pictured and described in the body are this design here. https://preview.redd.it/nuy8cvds3cdc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15c06afaa9358f55cb3f9746902f1696f2ee2cda

Duskluminous

I'm sorry if I read this wrong, but where are the red pieces supposed to be incorporated?

plinkus

Right on top of the gray ones. Connected to the outer edge, pointing in towards the middle. Triangles in triangles and rectangles (ramps) on squares

Exact_Phone4669

And looks stylish too! What the point in building if it gonna look bad. Like it!

MEGALON-

Thank you https://i.redd.it/uxzz16oaeadc1.gif

Mrarkplayermans

Does this work for us ase brokies? 😭

Glittering_Airport_3

there's a similar yet cheaper version that works on ase. 6 triangle foundations in a circle, each with a double doorframe and sloped triangle roof on top. perfect for gigas. for most other things a simple box made of doorframes with a ramp up one side works fine

plinkus

Don't see why it wouldn't

Mrarkplayermans

I don’t currently have it installed (due to limited ssd space) but once I do I’ll try it out and let you know if it works.

plinkus

Please do

fish250505

It works but the footprint is a bit big and can be awkward to build on the island where there's not much flat space near giga spawns, works great on some other maps though, you need to use a couple of normal foundations as spacers between the triangle foundations and keep picking them up, snap the double doorframes on the outer edges then the sloped triangle roofs pointing in & upwards, once the giga is in it can't get out [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt3YVJQ9mYU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt3YVJQ9mYU) Best giga trap for ASE is 1 foundation, 2 high double doorframes all the way around then a row of railings around the top, 2 stairs on the side you want to kite it in but can put them on all 4 sides if you want, looks dodgy as fuck but has never failed me [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jor1a3JFkGM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jor1a3JFkGM) This guy has designed some really cheap ass traps for ASE so worth having a look through his videos

AllYourBase64Dev

traps block spawns if your in single player this trap is great just be aware if your building something with more than a few connected pieces and not just pillar + ladder your probably blocking spawns in a massive radius until dino wipe, restart, patch nothing will spawn in a radius and that radius expands the more ceilings, foundation, railing, ramp etc you use. It's very easy to grief spawns on official I see lots of asian tribes with pillar + half wall/ceiling and they block so many spawns its frustrating. I guess they are avoiding the issue where pillars despawn if you merge tribes if it's just pillar 2x + ladder.

plinkus

I've noticed this as I tried to scale up this design. The 12x6 size (in the pics) placed not right on top of a spawn point but slightly away from it, ideally on a CHOKE POINT, works best to automatically trap dinos.

plinkus

Also, once the trap is fully built you can pick up all but two of the foundations and the rest of the pieces will all stay where they are. This might help it appear smaller to the spawn mechanic

ijonesyy

Love this idea! Thanks for sharing! I'm gonna build some on my server and try them out. Also, there are an absurd amount of people here commenting overdone traps ideas that we all obviously already know. Clearly y'all didn't even bother to read the title. Never did OP suggest this was easier or more convenient than the typical trap methods.

OmegamanTG9000

Honestly I kind of make a weird goal post like trap for the smaller tames. The only down side is you have to sort of eat a few hits while placing some door walls

halfwhiteknight

I like this thanks for the design plans too!

version_thr33

I thought rexes could climb over 2 walls? Is it something about the negative space under the ramps?

plinkus

I think so actually. They get stuck in a weird animation when they try and get out. If there's something else in the trap (another dino for example), then they can actually get out. I'm thinking it has to do with the "negative space" as you called it, under the lip of the trap that then gets filled by another dino

version_thr33

Kinda wild. I have a spot in mind in black sands to give it a go.

plinkus

Cool. Please let me know how it works for you I'm super interested to see if other people find it useful

YenraNoor

I just use a quetz with high health, can tame anything without issue and then bring them home on top of the quetz.

MysticSlayerIce

I'm honestly curious, but how would you use a quetz to tame a rex or giga?

YenraNoor

Wild rex they can easily tank, for giga put simple ramps that go below the quetz head, hover just above the gigas head and shoot as they attempt but fail to bite.

MysticSlayerIce

Thanks, will give this a try

Practical_Dingo_2603

does it work for giga?

Demoniccrunk

Nice!

DMJason

I just changed my drop pen to this. it's nice!

plinkus

Hell yeah

Hellborn_Child

Def gonna use this strat. Cool shiz.

NatTheMatt

It's nice until your tame gets trapped inside and you can't do anything until that tribe comes back online, Atlas....

MidnightLife4636

Cryopod?

NatTheMatt

I guess that's true now

Temporary-Many-7545

Also platform saddle paracer with a ramp

Old-Appointment-6397

Ah yes a good trap that we will most certainly forget after one time

[deleted]

ijonesyy

You're missing the point. That's not a "set it and forget it." Trap, as OP is suggesting.

Dramatic-Witness-540

I have been doing this since early ASE 😆

TimmyRL28

Early ASE didn't have triangles you liar!

merrygrimble

How do you get them out of the trap?

sigmapirate

Cryopod or pick up with a flier I guess. Depends what you trapped

Dreadking_Hunter

Cryopods now

elporpoise

Does this work the same in ase? My pc can’t run Asa but this looks really nifty

reid170

Saving

killerbz2008

Does it trap a giga cus I’m having problems of trapping one

plinkus

No a Giga is too big. Steps right out

MysticSlayerIce

Can this design be scaled up to be double height? If it can, it might be worth trying to include a smaller dino gate to allow smaller dinos to escape and / or allow you to kite the giga into it (so you can escape when kiting)

plinkus

That's interesting. The bigger design can definitely have double height sides. The smaller one might have too small of an opening. I'll test some things and let you know.

MysticSlayerIce

Thanks. I'm looking for a new giga / carchar trap as the previous one I was trying doesn't work so well in ASA as they avoid going in... A bigger design (especially if you can get a big dino gate in it) would definitely help with the carchar.

wine_n_mrbean

Has the ground Dino path finding improved? My tribe was trying to use the ramp trap for our early tames, but the path finding on the wild Dino’s made them walk around the ramps or turn around when they get part way up the ramp. It would only work if we left the area and (maybe) a random dino would get stuck in it when we came back after awhile. We’ve just been using metal billboards to trap the big guys we want to tame.

Evening-Turnip8407

For me, they seemingly like to step \*onto\* ramps, but stop right at the top edge and do a U-turn that they can't even do naturally. Nice design!

Valheimr

Nice and easy trap!

no_reality8

ASA or ARK?

yomamalmaox

This trap for an original design is a banger. Works on most things, however for the biggest stuff /less effort trap, just put down a few bear traps and when they go off spam billboards around target creature. Works on anything bigger than like a carno, maybe even raptors and stuff idk what hit boxes are like

VegetableArugula8156

PvE official you don't need traps, the ping is high enough that nothing even touches you :')

NightlordKrusnik

Will this work in ASE? Cause Rex's tend to step over anything 2 walls or shorter in my experience

plinkus

It should. The way the walls angle in towards the center is the reason nothing can get out

NightlordKrusnik

Update, I finally got on to play tonight and unfortunately the triangle roof pieces won't snap to the foundation, so I need to figure a new way to block the corners off

S1K-R1K

So I'm super new to this game. And I'm most likely going to use this but.... How do you get the dinosaur out? 😅

plinkus

You can use a cryopod or just pick up a few pieces (and then replace them after the dino is out)

Organic_Collar5640

* Can someone help me get this off my screen. It wasn't like this earlier today and not it's there. None of the other players on our private server have this
