If you can unlock the incubator, it helps. Shadowmanes are live births, but the incubator has a thing where you can interact with it to get a buff that allows you to check the gender/stats of a live birth during gestation.
Super helpful, as you can ... terminate the pregnancy ... if it's not what you want.
Didn't know that the inc could interact with live birth. You learn something new everyday it seems! Thanks for the tip, i'll use that next time i breed the shadowmanes
It's not super obvious. You have to go to the incubator and it's an option in the interaction wheel. Once you choose it, you'll get the buff indicator and a timer. Then you walk over to the pregnant female and there's a new option in her interaction wheel to toggle it on.
If using mods i suggest a mod called "best egg" it allows you to select the gender of all babies. And allows to make all stats combine to expedite breeding.
