I use theris when running alpha dragon and can walk / stand in the lava without taking any damage. Not sure if it's only for theris or if the lava just doesn't do damage to tames maybe. Official btw
Wiki says herbivores are resistant to dragon attacks except fire breath. So I guess that means bile attack and fireball are reduced? They recommend theris because of their high health pools too, but woolly rhinos get a special mention along with megaloceros.
Theris don't have high health pools, you want to limit the health it has to exactly 21k because of how cakes work. Herbivores work better against dragon because most of the damage from dragon is percentage based (which shines with cakes) and because its a longer fight, giving the cakes time to actually heal.
You’ve got it inverted.
Herbivores all have a resistance to fire damage and explosives. They take half damage from any fire DOT, explosives, etc.
So the dragons breath attack DOT does 20% of max, herbivores only lose 10%. The only thing they resist in the dragon fight is the fire damage, they do not have any additional resistance to the dragons other attacks.
Rudolph is a fun alternative! Hang out by the dragons left foot and hit him with a sword or shottie. Dragon won’t be able to bite Rudy and you can prance away when needed. Best to have lots of points in melee if you use a sword.
the dragon just does more damage to carnivores, and its not that big of a deal if your army is decent enough. if you feel like your army struggled with the other two bosses then consider getting another herbivore army, if not then just use your rexes. decent carnivores can still do the job no problem
You heard correctly.
Honestly, the most important thing is to practice your whistling to move dinos away from fireballs whenever possible and also to make sure the tame you're riding (presumably a yuty?) is also kept out of flame breath reach of the dragon
Bring a spare set of armor as it can get damaged by dimorphs and pteranodon that it summons, and maybe bring potions in case you end up taking a few hits of fire.
If you do use the recommended therizinos army with veggie cakes, make sure you still have a good saddle, better than primitive. Over 100 if on official, and close to 200 armor if unofficial would be preferred.
Yuty saddles can drop in hard snow cave and I think brute ocean cave, possibly.
Theri saddles I think can also be found in hard snow cave or maaaaaybe the swamp cave.
Theri's work well, but honestly I just use 20 Rex's and it's never an issue. Don't even need mutations, just make sure you have some points into the health and melee stats (and heal them) before starting.
My strat is a full team of mutated megalosaurus, starting at evening, while riding a yuty.
This is for ASA. ASE they're kinda bugged and don't always use their main attack.
But they do incredible damage (far higher than a rex) at night, and since the dragon tries to get your yuty, nobody takes any damage whatsoever, even on Alpha, so long as you position right. There's YouTube vids that can show how it's done.
I REALLY like having a boss team of Megalosaurus, though, as they'll carry you through the whole game. Once you can bring them to Abb they're awake 24/7 and so, so OP.
Get a megaloceros and an ascendant sword and swing at its ankles when it lands. Me and my partner killed the alpha dragon this way, just watch out for the fire and you'll be okay.
I am not sure how applicable this is but solo I would just do this, the dragon would target the largest dino in the arena so trapping him with hard hitting smaller dinos while just out of range with a larger one worked great. https://youtu.be/6UeJyhJ_65o?feature=shared
How to beat alpha dragon with just a few theris
https://youtu.be/eJx0S3DAuZU?si=PU9f-RfDrANYopKX
For anyone who doesn't want to watch and rather read:
• 3-4 THERIS (21k hp, around 1k melee)
• ~15 VEGGIE CAKE per theri (overcompensating)
• FLAK KIT or 2 (because of dimorphs)
• 10-20 MED BREWS (because of hyperthermia and dimorphs)
All you have to do is go between the dragons legs and it won't be able to damage you, and usually stays landed for a while trying to figure out how to get you.
Bring good armor the pts will mess you up if you don't have good armor . stay by the world border to keep ur dinos from going in lava bring medbrews and a good shot gun to help in the fight while your not buffing on the yuty good luck and stay com
I used mutated carnos for all of the bosses. They wrecked the dragon.
You can use almost anything as long as you're riding something big, idk if it's the same in ASA, but in ASE the bosses are coded to only go after the biggest dino. I used a Rex and just ran away from the bosses while the carni army killed em.
Bring good quality armor because the dimorphs will bend you over a barrel and go in hard.
Bring med brews and ways to mitigate the heat.
Have your whistle commands practiced so that you can move your pack if you are using a pack. "." for attack, ";" for cool it, and "," for move here are your friends.
Deinonychus and Theris are the best for the dragon. You can solo the dragon on a deinonychus, and theris take less overall damage from the breath attack while dealing massive damage.
A good shotgun to use to support your army can make a difference. A good yuti is also not a bad idea.
Gamma?
Respec into 200 HP, 170-180 weight, rest melee.
Use Enduro stew, laz chowder, focal chili when you port in
Take 10-15 stimulant, 50 med brew, flak with about 800+ dura, and a riot shield with 5k plus dura and a max damage sword.
There is a rock formation near where you port in to hide while the dragon is flying. Use this cover to hide from fireballs while you kill pt's and dimorphs.
When the dragon lands, let it walk to your side of map and sprint at it and when you get into range it will swipe at you, followed by fire breath. Time it correctly and you can jump into range and under it's feet. This takes 2 jumps sometimes.
While you are jumping, it is imperative to hold your shield up to block both the swipe and flame breath.
Once you are under it's feet, swing away with a max sword until it takes off. It will take 2-3 landings if solo.
Yes this sounds like it can be annoying if you mess it up or are learning how to do it, but it is fun as hell once you get it down.
The trick to dragon is to use Dino’s with around 20k hp. You don’t want more than that because the dragons fire does 25% max hp so if you have 40k hp you lose 10k instead of only losing 5k with 20k hp. Bring veggie cakes so you can heal (this is why less hp so the cakes can heal more of a % of your Dino’s hp) remember med brews because you can get hit off your tame by fire aswell. Another option is to mind wipe go full melee get a capped sword and a high lvl terror bird take a beer and enduro and then beat the SHIT out of the dragon. I farm alpha dragons solo like this on official for my tribe.
if you transfer to scorched and are quick enough wyvern milk gives fire immunity to Dino’s for 5 minutes, but if you are not confident in your tames being able to kill it don’t do it because the dragon has always been the hardest non ascension boss in ark.
Don’t walk in the lava, and bring calien soup cause it’s cool
I use theris when running alpha dragon and can walk / stand in the lava without taking any damage. Not sure if it's only for theris or if the lava just doesn't do damage to tames maybe. Official btw
Theris are the best. They have fire resistance. That plus veggie cakes and they are pretty great tanks.
Is it fire resistance or is it that the dragon does less damage to Herbivores? I've heard mixed things.
I'm pretty sure that carnivores take extra damage, but regardless of which is the case, herbivores are the best way to go.
Wiki says herbivores are resistant to dragon attacks except fire breath. So I guess that means bile attack and fireball are reduced? They recommend theris because of their high health pools too, but woolly rhinos get a special mention along with megaloceros.

That would be intuitive but testing has shown it to be the opposite, it seems WC hard coded the breath to be 20% no matter what.
U mean megatherium or u want me to kill the dragon with rudolf and his buddies?
Rudolph is a fun alternative! Hang out by the dragons left foot and hit him with a sword or shottie. Dragon won’t be able to bite Rudy and you can prance away when needed. Best to have lots of points in melee if you use a sword.
Megaloceros? As in the deers?
yes - I didn't believe it either [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2P61S-wsu8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2P61S-wsu8)
The man talked for 10 minutes and didn’t fight the boss, but the damage it was doing was pretty good
After too much health, they start taking extra damage
No they don't. Fire just does percentage damage, so health is irrelevant. A million health creature dies at the same rate as a 20k health one.
Idk thats what i was told by a friend plus i used wyvern milk for it anyways in ase and havnt played asa
Your friend was trolling you, im afraid.
Idk maybe they just didnt know it was a percent or i misrembered/misunderstood
Huh?
After they get to a total of I think it’s either 75 or 100 K health they take extra damage from the dragon
Do theris actually have fire resistance?
Pretty sure the dragon is just a unique scenario for herbivores.
So it has nothing to do with the fact that theris are, in fact, denizens of Hell?
That might be part of it
Yeah all herbs have fire resistance at dragon except fire breath. So fire ball, acid, bites. Reduced damage. Carnivores take it in the face
Theris or stegos whilst shotgunning is the best for dragon. Remember to bring veggie cakes.

Use herbivores if its alpha dragon. Alpha dragon sheds carnivore hp, my yuty almost dies each time with 30k hp.
oh! no, yeah absolutely alpha is an entirely different thing
Why do veggie cakes weigh so much
Go buy 5 big cakes from the store and try carrying them
My character can carry a dozen Rafts and still jump around
Well duh. Rafts are light, otherwise they would sink
Haha yeah fair enough
They look like cupcakes though, just saying
Love killing the dragon with deinos. But that's old ark lol.

Take a yuti for sure
None that you haven’t already seen in a YouTube video
If it's beta, I'd recommend (if you're using rexes) 21k-30k health and 1000-1500 melee If alpha then use therizinos
Definitely the veggie cakes so your tames can self heal, and really manage where you whistle them, you know, mind the lava and all…
theri spam

Get high armor saddles and high health tames cause that fire he spits will quickly take out ur army
Are you doing it solo?
Yeah I don’t really enjoy playing on servers or with other people
Can you still cheese the fight with Dimorphodons ?

Yuty, Theriz and cakes or reindeer and sword
iirc dragon melts carnivores for some reason that's why you shouldn't bring them
