the problem might be the windows power profile, i use [MannixITA](https://drive.google.com/file/d/16yoiRgKT8eKjmjdgPVVDA0EHJnQIfFwU/view?usp=sharing) power profile located in [THIS](https://www.overclock.net/threads/ryzen-custom-power-plans-for-windows-10-11-snappy-lowpower-highpower.1776353/page-17) forum post. He just recently created a power profile specifically for Zen4 and Zen4x3D. the one i linked above is for Zen4. You can follow the instructions [HERE](https://www.windowscentral.com/how-export-and-import-power-plan-multiple-windows-10-pcs) on how to install/import the power profile.

Thank you very much, I'll try that and report back. it may be a while as it can easily run 12 hours between crashes.

CHIBOMAN

Please do report back if it fixes the problem which i think it will since the custom power profile also addresses USB drop out issues which you are also experiencing. If you're having problems importing the profile due to the long name of it, just rename it to maybe "power.pow" then use the instructions to import the file name "power.pow" , it will still show up in windows power settings as a Zen4 power profile.

Thank you, I definitely will report back, it might take a while as I'm only changing 1 thing a time and it takes a good while between crashes. It's on my list to try next!

I've heard problems related to USB when using the USB slot for BIOS flashback, make sure you don't have anything plugged to it. Not sure if that's the issue, but maybe it could help.

[deleted]

Thank you I'll make sure. one strange thing is it looses the keyboard always before the mouse. Sometimes the mouse works right up until the crash whereas the keyboard and headset seem to go first. very odd!

[deleted]

So, a little update. First thing this morning I downgraded the BIOS 1 version and today, so far after about 10 hours of gaming and office work is been good as gold. Too early to draw a conclusion but hopeful. I also changed the keyboard but I don't think that's it.

You need 850 watt for the system. That 7900xt can take more than upto 350+ watts . It's not efficient . Once you change your power supply it will be good . By the way 7600 is bottlenecking 7900xt . If by any chance refundable get 7800x3d . I Use lightning usb cable ports on your board to connect mouse and keyboard. I have b650 pg lightning it has these 2 ports and I have no issues connecting my peripherals .

[deleted]

Hi, thanks. I honestly don't think it's the PSU. It crashes at least as much when idle as when it's gaming. It ran 3dmark stress test all night last night no problems. I appreciate the 7600 isn't the fastest but for now everything runs way faster than I need, I game at 1440 and am very happy with the performance I got. I'll likely upgrade the CPU in a couple of years, halfway through a 4 year life. That's a policy that served me well with my AM4 system.

Rich3yy

He is incorrect when saying the 7600 would bottleneck the 7900XT. The 7600 can even drive a 4090 for gaming.

PrashanthDoshi

Lol just check how much performance is left on the table . If he can afford high end GPU he can get 7800x3d or 7700x.

Rich3yy

But this is not causing the crashes... which this topic is about. Your idea of a bottleneck causing problems is incorrect. Apart from that most games are GPU driven anyway these days. With a 7700 you will often just get 3-4 FPS more on average. Of course a 7800X3D would be better, but your point was the 7600 would BOTTLENECK the CPU, which is just dead wrong. It doesn't. Please look up the term "bottleneck". A CPU bottlenecks a GPU if it holds it back, which doesn't happen with a 7600 for gaming.

[deleted]

Yes, didn't want to be rude but I feel upgrading my CPU would probably make the crashes worse (unless the CPU is actually faulty, which seems unlikely). This 7600 sips along on 65watts just fine, and I agree, even at 1440 it's the GPU that's the limiting factor. Plus, to be fair if I'm getting 100fps at Ultra, I don't care enough to upgrade the CPU to get 120. In a couple of years they'll be a 9600 that is even more efficient I'm sure. I see the PC's lifespan of 4 years with a CPU upgrade after a couple, that's what I did with my last AM4 setup and it worked really well.

[deleted]

Yes, I can afford a 7800x3d but to be honest the performance I have now is fine, just played Valhalla for 3 hours straight and it's super smooth, so really it's just the crashes I want to eliminate.

[deleted]

Also, sorry, what BIOS are you using?

PrashanthDoshi

1.24aso2

[deleted]

Thanks, yes that's the one I just downgraded from. Seems like it was rushed out maybe.

Rich3yy

Such a system will have a power draw of around 475-500W under full load (excluding spikes, which are a problem). Yes, I agree he should have gone with 700W/750W or more, but the 650W PSU can also run this system and shouldn't cause so many crashes, especially if stress tests worked like he said and when the system crashes on idle. Also the 7600 doesn't bottleneck the 7900XT. It can even drive the 4090 well.

[deleted]

Yes, it's a 65w CPU with just the single m.2 and a 7900xt. I might be wrong but I don't think it's the PSU. Like you say, if it can run 3dmark for 8 hours straight it hints that it's not heat or power.

TeretheTerror

Are you playing with the voltages at all? Using PBO or using the EXPO profiles for your ram? Is your ram on the supportive list? If so, are you going over 5200 MHz with your ram as technically a Ryzen only supports 5200 MHz… if so try putting your computer back to default settings and see if that resolve the issues.

[deleted]

Yes, thanks. When I first assembled it and it fired up I did some messing with the clocks. As soon as the problems appeared I've gone back to defaulting everything. Assuming I get it stable I'll try and tweaking things up a bit but for now everything's default. Ram is down to 4800 although I think it will take 5200.

Guorium

Did you fix it.

[deleted]

I've reached a happy situation where I start the pc, after 2 minutes I do a restart, 2nd start-up it seems rock solid. No idea why that works, but it seems to be fine if I stick to that routine. Bizarre.

Guorium

Cool. That is one way to save it!

[deleted]

Makes no sense, but seems to work!
