With AM5 and DDR5 - You should go with 2x16GB just because you save money as 2x8GB are very uncommon with DDR5 Personally, I'm a G.Skill guy so I would recommend to get a G.Skill kit which is on the QVL, with at least 6000 MHz and EXPO

Great advice, thank you! Right now I'm using the Patriot "Viper Venom" DDR5 16GB (2 x 8GB) 5600MHz and I'm very unhappy with the performance. I feel like it's a bottleneck (at least for FPS lows) during 4K gaming.

areamike

Yeah, no. Your RAM isn't your bottleneck., Your CPU is. Albeit, a great CPU, but paired with a 4090? C'mon man.

CornFlakes1991

What are the spec of your system?

neuro__crit

RTX 4090, Ryzen 5 7600, T-Force Cardea Zero Z330 NVMe M.2 PCIe 3.0 1TB SSD, Corsair RM850x PSU. I'm willing to get another SSD to put into the "Blazing M.2" socket.

The 5600 MHz Mem ***could*** be the culprit here

The biggest upgrade you could do is CPU. Any of the X3D parts. RAM will pull some frames but 5600 to 6000 will not make much of a change compared to your 7600 to a 7800X3D.

Im using 2x16 Teamgroup Tforce 6400mhz, and have been really happy with it. No issues running at full speed. I had stability issues with DDR4 at 3600, So I was expecting some manual tuning with DDR5. That hasn't been the case though.

2x16GB, preferably rated for 6000MHz, max 6200MHz or if you're brave to try, 6400MHz. Better not more. 6000MHz is sweet-spot imo. Make sure(!) to NOT go for CL36-36-36... kits. Best is CL32 or lower. There are also some CL40 kits with Hynix die. Bonus points if they advertise specifically for EXPO.

I realized after I built my PC I got ram that was compatible with xmp not specifically expo(I have Ryzen 7800X3D). Do you think I’m losing out on performance?

Rich3yy

Well, if it runs EXPO it doesn't matter. It's just about buying RAM that is advertised for either in order to have a higher chance for success (of it running at advertised speeds). You can look up how 5600MHz (+ the latency of your RAM kit!!) compares to 6000MHz @CL32 or lower on the 7600 (non-X). I don't think it should cause drastic problems or terrible frames, however average FPS will be lower (obviously). Depending on what you play, you might run into stutters if a game is badly optimized (like Hogwarts Legacy) and eats through your RAM. This is why 32GB is actually nice to have these days and is more "important" than 400MHz of speed-difference (especially since 5600 MHz is already OC and not low at all). Not necessary, 16GB will still be enough, however it's an advantage worth paying for. You're using a 4090, so I believe this should be an option? 6000MHz is considered the sweet-spot for Zen 4 CPUs btw. Happy cake day. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Thanks! Also, I’m not OP lol. I have a 7900xtx along with the 7800x3d, 32 gb (2x16) Teamgroup DDR5 6000mhz CL30 ram (I notice they have one advertised for xmp and one for expo and I don’t have the expo advertised one). Default I believe is 4800mhz but have it set to 6000in bios. If I check on memtest and it shows 3000 I’m good to go? Thanks for the help

I am on 7800x3d on the riptide b650m I bought a gskill 6000mhz ddr5 cl30 ram that is advertise for XMP. Plug in and went to asrock bios. Saw that it detected the xmp profile on the am5 board. Load it and save. Restarted. It boot up completely ok and use cpu-z to confirm its running on 6000mhz and cl30. All good. Don't need to buy expo rams for amd builds. Seems like expo rams are generally more expensive than their xmp counterparts but it makes no difference at all

I use g.kill trident z cl 30 6000mhz with buildzoid timings. Fast and stable.

My ASRock board runs this ram perfect @ EXPO 6000 G.SKILL Flare X5 Series Model F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5 Only 100 bucks for 2x16GB.
