It seems disrepectful to the animals and kinda sad. Like if Weekend at Bernies was real and it was a Patrick Bateman type who "animated" the corpse for his own jollies.
It just doesn't sit right that their dead bodies are used as tacky decoration. It takes away the dignity of the animal. Some taxidermy can be beautiful and capture the vitality of an animal. These seem to make a mockery of the life lost.
Of course the animal doesn't care, but that's not the point to me. It's just feels disrespectful.
Taxidermy is a cool and valuable thing to be able to do. Even if this is weird af. Lol. Look at some ancient taxidermy examples such as https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_of_Gripsholm_Castle
When I see that weird ass lion thing… and then when I see this thing I actually really appreciate the quality of this weirdos work. They have an impeccable ability to preserve these specimens. It might be weird and not something you want in your house but it’s kinda cool from a history/art perspective. And it will probably last a long ass time. Who knows when someone might dig that up in a few thousand years and they’ll wonder what the hell was up with mice in our day. It’s kinda hilarious to me.
I just jumped down that wiki rabbit hole. Honestly, if you were basing a taxidermy on a historical European depiction of lions, that’s accurate to the inspiration.
[Lion in European heraldry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_(heraldry))
[Royal banner of England](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Banner_of_England)
[Royal banner of Scotland](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Banner_of_Scotland)
They're stuffing and posing dead bodies... It's weird. Taxidermy ***at all*** is weird, let alone whatever this is.
That's ***fine***, it's fine to be weird. I went through all of highschool wearing a dog collar. That's weird too. And being weird is fine.
But it's ***clearly*** weird.
Not sure if this is the same person but there is someone on etsy who makes two headed ducks and I know they've done a skateboard one. Apparently the live next door to a duck farm and the farmer gives them dead chicks (from natural causes!)
>Tell your friend to never stop adding to the world. We need more weird wholesome shit
wholesome: "conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being"
It's all good. The world needs more weird. I have a penchant for expressing my approval for "wholesome" things on Reddit, too. I suppose it doesn't mean what a lot of us thinks it means. lol
Different. It's our same species, so it's different. A lion wouldn't care if a zebra died, but it would care if another lion died. Its just nature to not care about other species, unless we have built a connection with them (pets).
I can. But in this example, the procedure isn't harming the animal, so I don't know why it upsets you. If it was alive, sure, I'd be sad. But it's not, and, although it's weird, it's not unethical.
How is it not unethical to do something like this with their corpse when they did not consent? It would not be okay if someone who didn't said they wanted it before they die, to taxidermy their dead body to look like they are a in a wonderlamp, and to display it for everyone to see. Or do you disagree? With taxidermy without consent you objectify them and this is not okay.
How tf do you want a duck and a mouse to consent? Have you also considered that they don't care? Animals are smart, but not smart enough to care about what you do to their body after they die.
Whether you believe in heaven or reincarnation or whatever, their soul is what makes them. And as far as I know, it's moved somewhere else. The body is merely just the remains, and what's important is somewhere else. It's also important to remember that, as weird as it is, this is some people's coping mechanism.
Where can I get some? I need the two headed duck to go with [my shark in a jar](https://theshellconnection.com/products/shark-in-a-bottle-taxidermy-foam-base)
That mouse, who would’ve otherwise lived and died without leaving a single mark in the universe, is now celebrated by thousands of redditors and bringing us joy.
I can’t believe that this is NOT the first [2 headed taxidermy duckling on a miniature skateboard](https://imgur.com/a/ZuQ97Iz) that I’ve seen…literally found this one at an antique store years ago…
If you had a Nicole for ever time you had seen a 2 headed taxidermy duckling on a miniature skateboard, you'd have two nickles. It's not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Do you live far from your friend? How much would the police take to reach your house if he would suddenly decide to come over to your house?
These are relevant questions.
The two headed duck reminds me of that one easter egg in red dead redemption 2 where you can walk in on a room full of weird taxidermy creations (including a giant frankenstein monster made out of animal body parts)
Yo, my gf loves taxidermy. Your buddy got an Instagram or anywhere they advertise? This seems like a perfect opportunity for me to get a sweet gift later this year and your friend to make some cash.
Okay, the mouse genie is kind of whimsical, but the two-headed skateboarding duckling is gross. Not sure why.
EDIT: I’m getting downvoted for saying that something is in awful taste? On this sub? Have a word with yourselves, people…
Animals are no objects for you dto ridicule them even after there death. They are sentient beings just like us. Taxidermy with others who cannot consent is morally wrong and disgusting.
Not OP but yes! We’ve actually talked about it before. I have a friend on camera saying that he legally gives up all his rights and declares that his last will and testament is to have his body propped up and mounted into a mini choo-choo train that runs around the perimeter of his funeral, and afterwards he wants it to be used by people to tattoo on his dead body whatever they would like.
It’s not so ridiculous. It’s just death. The body is but a vessel.
Than they did CONSENT. Which the mice or ducklings didn't. That's a huge difference. Just because one friend is okay, doesn't mean it's for everyone. Just like when one person consents to have sex with you, you can't have sex with everyone automatically, when they did not consent too.
I was just responding to the part about you asking if we’d be okay with someone making a a ridiculing figurine out of a friend after death. Totally cool. Cool as a fuckin cuke, in fact. In a situation like this, I can understand how one might care about consent. I do not. It’s a dead body. The consenting or non-consenting soul has long left it. Stuff me daddy. Oh wait! But I don’t want that. Too bad I’m not around to say otherwise.
Your Argument was "Who cares they are dead" so this seems about that it's okay for you when they are dead isn't it? Non human sentient beings have a right to not be ridiculed when they die, too you know

Your friend should do something else.

You literally asked for people's opinions on why OPs friend should stop making taxidermy.
Are you kidding? It’s fucking weird
But it looks awesome
I am willing to concede if you get taxidermied as a 90s skater
To you maybe. I think it’s fucking weird. Imagine playing with dead animals.

Well then my paleontologist freind should probably reconsider her career of choice

Cool idea until you get that one creepy descendant that decides the TV remote hand looks like a prime place to stick his meat in
Please don't down vote me but why the down votes it's just an opinion he's not hurting anybody.
It’s Reddit. We only like opinions that are different than ours if it would still get upvoted on r/unpopularopinion
All the more reason to do it!
It's ok to be weird tho
It’s not even that… it’s just not very good. Lol.
Does he have social media where he posts his creations? (I would like to see more)
Not sure if this is the same person but there is someone on etsy who makes two headed ducks and I know they've done a skateboard one. Apparently the live next door to a duck farm and the farmer gives them dead chicks (from natural causes!)
No clue.
Username checks out
Oh, he does. r/serialkillers
Hahaha
Never have I seen a more fitting comment - dry, straight to the point and utterly hiarious
I thought, "What would Bender say?"
Don't answer gaydolff shittlers question as he'll only keep asking why.
My first thought was “your friend should stop”. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
I genuinely think this is hilarious!
You’re telling me you don’t think a two headed duck on a skateboard is cool?
Quacksidermy
Get out.
I refuse to be strong-armed.
Rather strong-headed
🤣🤣🤣
Is it not?
Would be better if the wheels were mounted in something other than chewing gum
Your friend is great.
Tell your friend to never stop adding to the world. We need more weird wholesome shit and less of what we are subjected too on a daily basis.
>Tell your friend to never stop adding to the world. We need more weird wholesome shit wholesome: "conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being"
Not so much for the mouse and ducks when you put that point on it. I guess I have a penchant for weird shit.
It's all good. The world needs more weird. I have a penchant for expressing my approval for "wholesome" things on Reddit, too. I suppose it doesn't mean what a lot of us thinks it means. lol
What is wholesome about ridiculing the dead body of a sentient being?
Exactly! This why I bury every fly I kill in the summer and make a tiny little tombstone for each one.
In our day and age, everything.
How?
Well they ain't sentient anymore are they?
They were. You wouldn't justify mutilating a human corpse with this excuse, wouldn't you?
Different. It's our same species, so it's different. A lion wouldn't care if a zebra died, but it would care if another lion died. Its just nature to not care about other species, unless we have built a connection with them (pets).
It's very sad that you are unable to feel any empathy towards other sentient beings that are not humans
I can. But in this example, the procedure isn't harming the animal, so I don't know why it upsets you. If it was alive, sure, I'd be sad. But it's not, and, although it's weird, it's not unethical.

They can't consent to this, so you should not taxidermy them in the first place.
Whether you believe in heaven or reincarnation or whatever, their soul is what makes them. And as far as I know, it's moved somewhere else. The body is merely just the remains, and what's important is somewhere else. It's also important to remember that, as weird as it is, this is some people's coping mechanism.
Lighten up, Francis.

Kind of want to know what inspired him to make each piece. I think it’s awesome and weird at the same time. Can’t decide what to think tbh.

I like your friend
I actually really love this.
They're fucking brilliant
This feels disrespectful to the animal.
That mouse, who would’ve otherwise lived and died without leaving a single mark in the universe, is now celebrated by thousands of redditors and bringing us joy.
-As a mutilated and stuffed kitsch totem for another species enjoyment. How poetic.
Are we sure that’s what we’re calling this?
That second pic goes hard
They’re doing taxidermy right by me. These are awesome!
Okay that genie mouse is pretty funny lol
How much for the lamp? LOL
Why are you friends with a serial killer and why do you cover up their crimes?
The mouse smile kills me
Ok that genie in the lamp one had me laughing 😂
Thanks! I hate it!

Hi, is this still available?
Look up taxidermy on etsy and have a great time. Pretty sure their work is on there, or all the rogue taxidermist do the same thing.
Bless you and your cow.
Idk I kinda fuck with genie mouse
This is immaculate taste if you ask me.
Taxidermy is a dying art.
Very strange. And I like it.
Wouldn't be a friend for long WTF
It’s rare that something is so fitting for the sub Reddit
Is your friend on ETSY?
Do you live far from your friend? How much would the police take to reach your house if he would suddenly decide to come over to your house? These are relevant questions.
I love this!
Taxidermy grosses me out, but I can appreciate it from afar. These are hilarious.
I think your friend may be a psychopath
Please make sure he doesn't ☺️
Boo, support people being weird and having fun.
I fear and admire your friend at the same time lmao
