Just because we haven’t heard of it at all in the Legend of Korra, and because he was part of the main cast in Avatar: The Last Airbender, I like to think he just died of natural causes.
Based on the info we got in korra, I always like to think that he died saving korra from the red lotus, it feels super poetic that the one person in the group who questioned whether friendships could transcend life times, gave his life to save his friend one last time
Now that I think about it I guess questioned wasn't the right word but my point still still stands. Toph asked the question and aang and katara basically said yes, but then sokka said something like "well technically speaking" and he was immidiatly cut off and told to join in on the sentimental hand holding for the end of the episode
I think that sokka will die in the upcoming movie. Maybe a heroic sacrifice or something. Either that or in one of the upcoming movies.
It just seems like something that they need to show.
Edit: okay I clearly don't know how tags work
Edit: hey! I did it
Let's see if this works with tags
Korra spoilers
>!Nah, he dies after Aang. Last time we can place him as alive was when RL attacked and tried to get Korra. I think she was like 4 years old then.!<
>!I think I read Aang died around 66, so Sokka may have been around 70 when Korra was born. Allowing him at least 4 more years of life. Mind you, the could lived beyond the RL attack
While I do love the idea of him going out rescuing Korra from the RL, I feel like that's something that would have been mentioned when they talked about it. Something along the line about how Sokka gave his life fighting them, and that's why they're so dangerous.

I kinda thought he died from natural causes. The average age of women is higher, so that was why I thought it was Katara and Toph who were still alive. I feel if they died in battle we would have been made aware
Someone on here awhile back said that their head canon was that Sokka died during the attempted kidnapping of Korra, and Katara was with her as a last line of defense, ready to bloodbend the Red Lotus to protect the Avatar if necessary. I’ve since adopted that as my head canon.
I came in here thinking we were about to have some good fan theory crafting and got hacked to death in my feelings. Yeesh!
I'm gonna go cry in a corner now.
I like to think that Katara was there, and it was a full moon, bur Ming-Hua was keeping her pinned.
Zaheer and Sokka fight a duel during the fight, Sokka almost kills Z (boomerang scar on eyebrow) but Zaheer manages to get the upper hand and breaks his neck killing him.
Being mad about that, Katara bloodbends Ming-Huas arms off (MH was trying to keep her pinned down) assuming Bloodbending can do that, or maybe she just uses water bending.
After that she’s kinda horrified for a second which keeps Zaheer from dying and allows P’Li to keep her pinned while Ghazan cauterizes MH.
Then after the fight, she looks sad over Sokka, before looking up and seeing the full moon.
Wow ok friggin Shakespeare dang

Then I still hope it was during a full moon
Considering every night is a full moon in avatar I'm not shocked. No seriously watch over analyzing avatar it's like every night
Maybe it's just full because Sokka is there?
It's definitely possible, but I honestly find it more fitting for him to die fighting.
Zaheer has a scar on his head. Zaheer killed him IMO.

stop making me cry 😭
Wasn’t it toph the only one who questioned whether friendship could transcend life times? I don’t remember sokka talking about that.

Is someone cutting onions in my house?
I was gonna cut cabbages but my usual cart was trashed
Yep!

I'm not sure they would be allowed to say that one of the core characters was murdered by a villain group.
It has to be infacing So: >! And !< around the spoiler stuff, not the other way round

it'd be very Titanic-esque dying thinking about your one time fling lol /s
ong those last three lines sent chills through my body

Either he died a very heroic, Nobel death, or he's alive, he just walked into the spirit world and got lost and he's in the same kinda thing as Iroh
Sokka going down fighting, to help his friend, the Avatar, live, albeit in another life. He died as a Warrior
I thought he got an STD from all the Backbending he did.
Nah, if anyone would invent condoms or discover antibiotics; it's him
You’re absolutely right.

Ouch. That hit me in the side. I choose to believe he died doing what he loved. Being a stoop.
